V/A - Die 2555.Nacht 1990

All songs on this nice Compilation were recorded at the seventh annual festival of the only occupied house in Frankfurt called AUThis open-air party always takes place on the first weekend in July and is already an integral part of the German underground scene. Renowned bands as headliners, local patriots and other well-known combos have already been guests and with sunny weather, "warm" beer and delicious food, this event is always a highlight for many, including me. Unfortunately, it is now the only event that has survived all these years, so it is always a pleasure to meet old friends, buy cool records and above all: much fun until late at night! The last three years there was no party because of the damn Corona, but this year, on 3.June 2023, 40 years of AU will be celebrated and who is invited is not yet been decided, but I'm sure it will be fantastic. So you people out there, come by and experience a nice uncomplicated time and may the record reflect a bit of the feeling that awaits you thereI'll be there, Cheers!

ARYAN DISGRACE - Faggot In The Family 7'' 1983

The next interesting slab on this Tuesday evening brought us Mystic Records and is far and away the most collectable release on the label. Aryan Disgrace was a short-lived Los Angeles combo with six members and they made a splash with their only 7Inch. The most disgraceful aspect of this record is indeed its lyrics which are very provocative. The song is about a guy who keeps his homosexuality a secret from his family and thus gets into trouble, while the flip is about extraordinary S&M enjoyment. Musically two decent short tracks and in 1983 a censored version came afterwards with different lyrics, and of course it's debatable whether there's any point in singing about such topics. But there are no taboos in Punkrock I guess, and I wouldn't call the band homophobic or worse and take them not too seriously, it's a rare record and very much sought after by collectors these days and on relevant Compilations as well.

THE MANIC DEPRESSIVES - Silence On The Radio EP 1980

Not really new but always worth a post is the only EP by the Manic Depressives from New Orleans who conjured up this three track killer EP on Vinyl Solution Records, the label of L The P. They existed from 1979-1981 and line-up was Mandeville Mike (vocals), Mike C (guitars), L The P (bass), Charlie (drums) and alongside the 7inch they were on the No Questions, No Answers Compilation (1980) with two more goodies and this sucker seems pretty rare, if anyone has it I'd appreciate a decent rip. Three melodic mid-tempo numbers on this dittie and each one a delight. When the Depressives ended, Larry formed the similar sounding 0:30 Second Flash with another group of friends. They recorded a four song EP and played live a few times, but they were over even faster than the Manic Depressives, all tracks of both bands were then released as a mini-album on Rerun Records in 2011. They were also honored by Back To Front Vol.3 with an invitation. Enjoy!

IMAGEN - ...Y Ahora Qué? EP 1989

This slab is not for sensitive ears and will break your chair legs and we're talkin' about the only record by Imagen. An interesting three piece, Giovanny (vocals/guitars), Fredy (bass/vocals), Disney (drums/vocals), Hardcore combo from Medellín and one of the best exponents of that old but great scene and if any record deserves the Hardcore seal of approval, it's definitely this one! Unfortunately the boys haven't released much besides the single, but their contributions to the Punk Medallo Vol.2 tape, which saw the light of day in 1988, are a must and this Compilation gives a fantastic overview of the underground scene in Colombia and is highly recommended. Nine wild, raw songs shot in your ears and burn into your nervous system and every Punk in the cold north doesn't need a sauna (and I'm freezing at ten degrees and I'm already stiff, I live in the wrong country...)

EXIL - Das Wort Muss Würgen EP 1996

New rip, new scans today by this little 7inch from Fuckin' People Records, and it's Exil from Husum and for a small town in Schleswig-Holstein this litte village has a pretty active music scene and this five piece was one of those. Founded in the early Nineties by Basti (vocals), Jan (vocals/guitar), Marten (guitars), Holger (bass), Ove (drums) and during their approximately five year existence they released a demo tape, an EP plus an album. We're enjoy four catchy goodies on this 7Inch but unfortunately the recordings are a bit shitty, I find them much too dull and without trebles, but since I appreciate and like the follow-up combo Turbostaat very much, I was interested in Exil and can overlook this shortcoming. Their own sound is already clearly recognizable, which they later continue brilliantly, here still unpolished and rough, but overall an essential slab for me, and I know that you too will hear just how special this is! This is the end of a long morning with music, later the SGE and remember: "You'll see that you have to fight back if you don't want to go under!"

DÖDELHAIE - Holzfällerlied 7'' 1991

The Dödelhaie were founded in Duisburg anno 1985 and the first line-up consisted of Timo (vocals), Manuel (guitars), Andy (bass), Hardy (drums) and after a demo tape in 1990 the four released their first album on their own. A band that likes touring and many gigs with well-known German Punk bands gave them greater attention, positive feedback and numerous fans of their music. Musically and lyrically well versed, the Haie shine with their unmistakable mix of combative, pathetic lyrics and the typical Dödelhaie humor, and they do it amazingly well and I enjoy their creative spirit. This 7Inch underlines exactly that, the Lumberjack Song is a cover of the famous Monty Python's classic, which surely everyone of you should know and makes me smile immediately, but also highly topical topics are part of their lyrics and numerous albums (seven to date) and compi contributions make clear, they never tire of them. The flip is a russian traditional folk number which everyone knows as well. - A cool record, perfect for beaming yourself into a stress-free weekend!

SKINGRAFT - Oi! Oi! Music EP 2015

Interesting early Eighties Oi! combo from Buxton called Skingraft, consisting of Tommy (vocals), Andy (guitars), Jay (bass), Greg (drums), and in their active lifespan they made their only vinyl appearance on the legendary Oi! Oi! That's Yer Lot! Compilation (coming soon) and this lost rarity features three demo songs which were recorded at Hologram Studios in Stockport South Manchester in the summer of 1981, released via Sunny Bastards in an edition of 500 copies (200 red, 300 on black vinyl)Even after forty years, I find their bumpy sound can still match with today's Oi! bands, and the quality is excellent as well. The fourth song is a bonus and a live one and before you ask, I have no idea where this track was recorded, doesn't matter either, sounds cool. They are currently working on new material and it remains to be seen when this will appear. Until then, enjoy the voice of the youth, Oi!

BLUTTAT - Liberté 1982

Fabulous debut by Bluttat with ten fast rough HardcorePunk attacks with pissed-off lyrics in German & English, as well as a few slower, more melodic tracks. Released via Ausschuß and the original record (which runs at 45RPM) is nowadays hard to find and that's the reason why Assel Records & Maniac Attack Records re-issued this slab in 2005 with two bonus tracks. Bluttat was founded in 1981 from the remains of Pissrinne in Mülheim/Ruhr and, until around 1986, consisted of Anja (vocals), J.R. (guitars/vocals), Uwe (bass), Ralph (drums). During this time they have recorded three albums and appeared on numerous Compilations to date. Their music is loud, raw and authentic and they did everything in pure D.I.Y. manner. A suitable review: "Some plodding German Punk and then...wham!, some super-frenetic thrash. Two singers share vocal duties, and the woman really wails. There’s some great stuff here, and I highly recommend over half of this record." (Tim Yohannan, MRR #7 • July/August 1983) Liberté is fifteen minutes intense, powerful, roaring and a "small" highlight of German Hardcore!

SCOUNDRELS - Join Hands 1988

A largely unknown band are the Scoundrels, a Dutch/Belgian combo, who started playing 1979 and were around until 1990 and made three albums and countless Compilation appearances. Join Hands is their second output which came via Swaddle Records and line-up were Patrick (vocals/guitars), Frank (bass/vocals), Butsenzeller (drums). I can't say exactly why that is, my first contact came through the Not Great For Great Men Compi whose song I like a lot, but I took it as a side note and at that time I wasn't focused on buying records, because I was constantly broke. Well, somehow I came across this record and discovered twelve solid varied mid-tempo Eighties songs with excellent lyrics (very personal) at its best. I strongly recommend you to listen to their first demo Ufreettoemoef from 1985, where you can also find more infos about the band. And also important: "Following a thirty-one year (!) hiatus, the Scoundrels return to the front with a huge bang… and with their brand new third LP, Oh No! Not Again!!" A Must Listen!

DOGS - Go Where You Want To Go 12'' 1978

Second release on Melodies Massacre by the Dogs from Rouen and this five track goodie was recorded in Boulogne in only Forty-Eight hours and received very good reviews in the press and gave the band more and more concerts. In 1979, they signed to a Major (Phonogram) and released their debut album DifferentThey gained a decent following in France and their likeable, frantic catchy music gained a certain notoriety accordingly and their gigs were always well attended. This was reflected in their creativity and numerous albums/singles were recorded up until 2001 and since then things have been quiet on the vinyl front and I can't say if the bands still active.... so enjoy now five splendid pieces of brilliant songwriting.
