ANTI-BAND - Only Album 1983

A fuckin' awesome record is comin' next and like the WBT album this record kicks from the first tone. Anti-Band was formed in 1979 in Hollywood/CA. by founding members Jimmy Leach (vox & guit.), Vincent Louis (lead guitar & bass) and Allen Butler (drums) and their first release is a three Track EP on Zebian Records in 1982. In 1983 they released this killer Mini-LP and you hardly ever see one of these come up for sale. Totally D.I.Y. with stamped on title and handwritten info on the spine. The back is a paste on graphic. I came in touch with their music when I listen to the 10'' bootleg BUST! compilation and the song is called "Success" and this two minute warning blows the shit out of me and so I'm searchin the net for their album. And you finally see I found it. This is a must and so I post their awesome record here, all three songs from the EP are included on the album and the only deficit is after sixteen minutes the storm is over. I'm sure many will listen to this snotty smasher quickly a second time. Pick it!

FUNERAL ORATION - s/t LP 1987

Here's an extreme pretty cool melodic punk album and I would like to quote lots of infos I've found on their MySpace site:

Funeral Oration was a melodic hardcore punk band from Amsterdam/Netherlands. They were active from 1983 until the end of the 1990s, putting out highly influential records on Dutch, German, British and American labels. They managed to create their own unique sound, mainly due to the unmistakable vocal style of the singer Peter Zirschky.

Funeral Oration was formed in early 1983 out of the ashes of singer Peter Zirschky's former band – Last Warning. The initial line-up was completed by drummer Ferry Fidom, bassist Mike who was soon replaced by William Steinhauser, and guitarist David. The latter quit just after the recording of their first demo, so Zirschky took over guitar duties. In the beginning of 1984 another demo tape was recorded, this time with better production which captured the raw energy of those early days of the band. It wasn't until the fall of 1984 that their music finally made it to vinyl when the self-produced 'Shadowland' 12'' was released. Four tracks of ripping hardcore on side A, backed with three of the darkest post-punk songs established their trademark sound. The next year brought a new guitarist, Tos Nieuwenhuizen (ex-Agent Orange), and a new release – their first and now legendary album 'Communion" (1985) on Diehard Records, which was ranked #3 best punk rock album of the year by Flipside magazine.

The unique guitar style of Tos Nieuwenhuizen and heartfelt lyrics of Peter Zirschky earned the album a classic status. In 1986 guitarist Tos left the band. He was replaced by Hayo Buunk and later that year a new 7inch EP was recorded – "Survival". Their second album, simply titled "Funeral Oration", saw the light in 1987 and the same year drummer Ferry Fidom left the band. With the new drummer Erik Jansen in, the band’s line-up didn’t change for a decade. Another EP 'The More We Know' was released in 1989 and in the end of the year material for a new album was recorded, but a hiatus in the band caused its late release – the "Say No To Life" record was finally put out in 1993 by WRF Records. This record gave a hint of what would become their definitive sound in the '90s – catchier melodies and better production, still keeping the edge of their previous albums.

After almost five years of silence, the four entered the studio to record their CD debut "Punk Rock Nation", which caught the ear of american Hopeless Records who eventually signed the band. Most of the tracks off "Punk Rock Nation" were included on their next release, predictably titled "Funeral Oration". A semi-professional video was shot for the song "Outside", which can be seen on the "Cinema Beer Goggles" video. Hopeless Records issued the band’s last two studio albums 'Believer' (1997) and 'Survival' (1998) – and a double-disc compilation with rare, unreleased and live material. In 1997 Vinny Tjoa joined as a second guitar since Hayo Buunk couldn't take part in the recording of "Survival". Funeral Oration did three american tours in three consecutive years – in 1996, '97 and '98 – promoting each of their Hopeless Records releases. By the end of the decade the band members went their separate ways.

Sad news in the end, on 17.April 2008 Erik Jansen former drummer for Funeral Oration passed away after a tragic accident. Fazit: excellent legacy from one of the finest dutch bands ever.

WOMBELS - Aber Angelika!? EP 1989

Nothing new in blogland but this EP of the numinous Wombels from Ulm is simply delicious. One of my favorite bands and with their melodic punk rock they're a perfect start to a cold winter day. The band sang their first songs in German, and then swung into English. Their legendary 'Fast & Bouncy' album was unfortunately a lousy production and that's the reason why only 75 copies were pressed. Today one of the rarest and most sought albums. Worth mentioning the great cover artwork too. Don't miss their second record Divine Madness which has a brilliant production and with the Wombels I feel good and if you feelin' bad then let them in. Unfortunately sad news at the end, singer/guitarist and founding member Steff has died after a long illness on 17.07.2015 - a complete surprise to me... thank you for the great music, R.I.P.

MEAN RED SPIDERS - Last Of The Teen Icons EP 1990

All these four recordings were recorded 1978-1979 and many belongs to all the 70's punk recordings that never got released at the time, this is one of the best. Totally raw & brutal. With at least two future Chesterfield Kings members, there's a significant 60's garage influence, but it's much punkier than the Distorted Levels record. Buster Bulb Records pick these four great tunes out and released this EP in 1990, 500 copies. If you find a copy then get it, this record is worth every fuckin' cent.

OVERKILL - Hell's Getting Hotter EP 1982

Overkill was formed in late 1980 by drummer Kurt Markham and bassist Ron Cordy. Kurt, the group's main songwriter, was originally the guitarist but moved to drums in an attempt to lure friend Felice LoCoco, a guitarist, to join the group. Overkill recorded for SST Records and Carducci, himself, mixed their album - they were one of the first bands to mix punk and metal, resulting in one excellent EP and a decent LP before they fell apart. "Any band whose singer lights his balls on fire in performance is perhaps not destined to survive long, but Overkill did leave behind one heavy headstone of an album and they kicked any and all ass privileged to witness their spontaneous combustion - an early organic convergence of punk edge and heavy metal ambition." Great Combo.

V/A - Matado Por La Muerte 2008

Here is a small consolation for our Spanish friends and a historic moment and in this magical night I listen to this Spanish compilation on my hard drive, released on Holy Cobra Society Records and it's full with awesome dirty garage punkrock. Could be a P.Trash publication as well. Here is an excellent description I found on the net: "Prentencious Motherfuckers, you better know that, but we love you and yes, we are just the same like you and we have the same venereans illnesses here in Spain, so now that we're on the same boat ready to sink, here you have a present to you. In this "Matado Por La Muerte" (500 copies pressed) you'll find fourteen bands and twent-two songs by some youngsters that you will not find elsewhere, so instead of spending your money on ebay and destroy your fingers looking in every record store for all this new jewels sang in spanish, grab yourself a cold beer and play this record in you turntable and get ready to start world war III in your own room/cave, and with the money you? Save make a present to your old mother. She's been too much time dealing with your stupidities of a young unsubordinated person." Fits perfectly and I have nothing to add, except: Killer record !

EXTRABREIT - Rückkehr Der Phantastischen 5! 1982

Extrabreit is a German band which was formed in Hagen, Germany in 1978. The band was one of the most successful exponents of the 'Neue Deutsche Welle' movement in the 1980s. This is their third Album and the last good one before they become a boring "Rock-Band" like Scorpions or whatever, haha... Actually they were a punk-infected garage rock band from theenvironment of the left scene of Hagen and the first albums proves this in my opinion. This album was released in five differentcolors and had nine tracks. There exist a tape version with an extra track and maybe now the rarest Extrabreit song ever. All in all a successful final album of the early NDW/Punk era.

CALIGULAS BARN - Askungen EP 1981

And further with awesome old rare stuff from the early days. Drummer Mats Westin was on its 16th anniversary on 28/9 in the year of grace 1979 grapevine aware that he was a member of a punk band called Caligula's Barn! Guitarists Magnus Kollberg and Eric Levander had already switched to the Swedish punk and plank Ebba Forsberg and already honed the concept of Caligula's Barn. An early draft of "Stick To The Soviets" was reworked to be acquired but the first song, with Mats on the drums, "Blood In The beard" as straight irony total of anywhere from dictators to scientists. The group's major milestone was the fourth gig at The words house 12/9-80 when it recently reached Umeå and managed to lift themselves together, gameplay. The whole thing has been preserved in a good audience recording. A typical gig where the Ramones, Clash, Ebba Grön and selection of Swedish bands such as The Baiters and attacks are mixed with many originals. sixteen songs cleared in forty-five minutes. But it did not pay Caligula Barn a milestone on his record. New new wave and the influences should have worked, but was scuttled by a nice "production." The single became a little punk, but fortunately did tape is heated to several ropes. The band was characterized by energy - perhaps more fun than aggression - and a measure of humor, for example: the slogans "total dots with scratching" and "pop with speed stripes". Opinions on the CB was really polarized between "the worst band you've heard" to "impressive vocal harmonies." Immediately in 1982 transformed the band to El-Alamein, with more pronounced new wave sound and a minor emphasized pop rock. 1984 converted it to The Trap, which popinfluenser of vintage/retro character was heard more than in previous projects.

- Huge Thx to Fredrik -

IKKA SHINJYU - Dead Section Flexi 1985

Well, I told you yesterday that new records come in and while I ripping there's a band you should notice: Ikka Shinjyu from Japan. They released five 7Inches and they extreme fuckin' noisy and fast and raw. The singer is yelling the words out like he's been laid up on a bed of nails, the guitars heavily distorted, the drummer bolzt without breathing and the bass joins the whole noiseblock perfectly. I do not have much to do with Japancore but occasionally I discover a pearl that blows my socks off. Three goodies in four minutes, 100% pure energy.....and now first a beer, Cheers!

PURRKUR PILLNIKK - EhgjI En: 1981

A leap in the far north and we meet Purrkur Pillnikk, an amazing band from late punk era from Iceland. The band existed for eighteen months (1981–1982) and were very active, they released at least two albums and one live record and two EP's. The distinguishable character of the band were Einar Örn's howling and off-key singing and his lyrics that most often described very day-to-day things but with a lot of interwoven angst. Members of the band later found themselves in KUKL and 1986 in the Sugarcubes. The band toured Britain in fall 1982. This is their debut album on Gramm records with seventeen short crackers with simple guitar riffs which is fuckin' PERFECT!! Search this blog for more. And now two new records arrived and they wanna be digitized immediately... I Love Saturdays! - See you in Walhalla.
