WANDA'S - The Ideal 1982

Another gem from my Wanted-List and I'm really glad that I can finally listen to this record I've been looking for a fuckin' long time. Wanda's are a dutch female punk/rock band which were formed in the eighties. Where?? No idea. This band is one of those bands which you can't get any info around and I find this a real shame because this album is an awesome crown jewel.
Released on TAS records with 9 songs and they have all what I expect from a decent punk plate. First, female vocals (not a must but I love it), short songs with rough garage guitars, easy played, a little reggae, a little wavie and remarkable singing in dutch, english and german. What should I write more??? I guess, I'm repeating myself here many times but what should I do with so much great stuff which exist and wants to be discovered? You tell me. Fact is, here’s your chance to get their brilliant debut record and if you're like what you hear please leave a comment. The Wanda's released in 1986 a second album called 'A State Of No Mercy' but this has lost the snotty charm and is pure rock, not for me. One live tune can be found on the rare live compilation Parkhof 11-4-81 on V.G. records. Again, I ask you: if anyone has good scans please get in touch. And now, enjoy this delicacy and open a beer, 100% Punkrock!

FOOT & MOUTH - The Prophecy Of Fossos M-LP 1986

This mini LP is one of those pleasant surprises that I love. I bought it at the last small record fair here and to date I did'n heard this Melbourne based combo which featured Sean Greenway and Matty Whittle who would later go on to be in GOD. I saw the cover and was immediately excited and when the seller told me there from Australia so I thought to myself: get it! Because I like aussie punk style and here I thought this must be hardcore stuff or something in this direction, that cover at least suggested that for me. But what I got to hear was completely different. It starts with a spoken intro called prophecy, OK and then comes a perfect sound from guitars which is like a MP, tack tack tack tack, far away from the typical hardcore sound what I expected. Fuckin' cool. Song #3 begins with keys and the rhythm reminds me of "I Wanne Be Your Dog", I'm not sure but 99%, impulsive & melancholic played, awesome. Side 1 ends with "Seymour! (The Room's A Mess)", a brilliant snotty punk song in a typical KBD style. And so further goes with Side 2 with another short punk smasher. By the way the lyrics are funny too and accompanied with queer noises. "I Want My Mummy" is a dark monotone four minute ballad with no guitars. Very charmin'. The album ends with a danceable nice pop song and after about twenty-two minutes the music is unfortunately over. So hardcore as I believed is here with no single tone. And as I ripped the album, I listen to three/four times in a row and I promise you do that too. Foot And Mouth were a damn cool band and with this record which were only 500 copies pressed on 'No Penis No God' records they have left a masterpiece for posterity and it's now extremely hard to find. I included all artwork because the booklet is also nice. I would be interested what you think about the record and would appreciate numerous comments. Don't be a moron!

THE BRAT - Attitudes EP 1980

The Brat was an influential Chicano punk band from East Los Angeles, California, formed in the late 1970s by singer Teresa Covarrubias and guitarist brothers Rudy and Sid Medina. They played their first gig at the opening of The Vex, housed in the now defunct Self Help Graphics and instrumental in providing access to many local bands at the time. Their unique style of aggressive pop, highlighted by intelligent lyrics and passionate stage performances, engaged audiences and won them critical acclaim as well as the covers of Low-Rider Magazine and the L.A. Weekly. Their first EP Attitude was cited as one of the five best independent releases in 1980, with melodic hooks and crunchy guitars, this record sounds as fresh today as when it was originally recorded. One of the best punk rock records recorded during the 80s by an American band. A must have!!

THE CELIBATE RIFLES - Quintessentially Yours 1983

This is brand new for me and after the first listen I absolutely loved it. Eight crunchy short punk goodies which captivate me for a short time, away from all this mental cinema. Released on What Goes On Records and included are three songs from their debut 7inch which you can get at kbd records. Let me give you some info from wikipedia: The Celibate Rifles are an Australian punk band which formed in 1979 in Sydney with a line-up that included mainstays Dave Morris on rhythm guitar and Kent Steedman on lead guitar, within a year they were joined by Damien Lovelock on lead vocals. They released their first album, Sideroxylon, in April 1983 on the Hot Records label. The band has toured both America and Europe extensively, and released their ninth studio album, Beyond Respect on 19 July 2004. In 1985 the group's style was described as post-Radio Birdman sound which is "a combination of fast, guitar-driven, hard rock and power pop". In November 1987 Sounds magazine's Roger Holland described their album, Roman Beach Party as showing the group's "sawn off rock potential all the way down to the bleached white of the bone, the lyrics reveal all the anger, insight and humour that makes [them] one of the most powerful rock bands in the world today". In April 1994 The Celibate Rifles issued Spaceman in a Satin Suit which according to Australian rock music historian, Ian McFarlane "was [their] best studio album since Blind Ear". Lovelock has undertaken a solo career and issued two albums as well as becoming a TV sports presenter. A real good 12'' and a real distraction. The Rifles are represented on numerous compilations, no wonder with that awesome sound. Tipp!

V/A - Killed By 7Inch #1-5 2000

"Ladies & Gentlemen, This Is PUNKROCK!!!!!" If an record so begins only cool shit can put on there. I open solemnly another round of the legendary compilation series and this is a pretty piece of vinyl which contains the first five Killed By 7inch EPs. Most of those were released only in editions of 300 copies and they quickly disappeared. If you missed out on those now you have here the chance. Rumours going around that a second LP is planned for Vol. 6-10 but I've never seen any. Fuck it! this is an average collection of tracks and I'm sure you pick it up. "Fuck Off Commercial Radio Bullshit!"

THE REVIEW - England's Glory 7'' 1980

The Review formed around 1978 in Clevedon and played alot of Youth Club gigs. Became three piece Mike, Martin & Taff. It followed a small tour across Belgium and then they produced their only record called 'England's Glory'. Taff joined Disorder, Martin the Tea House Camp and Mike Eagle formed Unity Station. The Review was a band that was like the other mod revival bands of the day, but a cheaply recorded one, although the band were still very punchy. This record actually has All The Madman printed labels on the disc, as opposed to the plain white labels of the previous Madmen release. If you hear this record, listen carefully to the intro of the B-side, sounds very much like the first few bars of Londons Calling by The Clash!

AGENT ORANGE - Frankfurt o25, 26.04.2009

So, it's ca. five years ago that I saw this damn good band here in Frankfurt and I remember as if it was yesterday. I'm not sure but I think this was our first gig together and today Agent Orange are back and if you like to see them live then come to Wiesbaden/Schlachthof and join them with me and Heike. At that time we were three, today unfortunately two. You see, I'm still not over the mountain and has to fight every fucking day. But I will not bore you with details. Here is my original description from December 23, 2010 and maybe I see you tonight. Take care!!!

A Band from California I mostly like are Agent Orange and clearly I don't have to miss their concert here. For all those who have not taken this, here is again your chance. Circa 30 minutes in a high picture and sound quality, I recorded with my camera itself. And I can tell you that was really strenuous. Afterwards my arm has dropped.

But the result has become very good. The song selection is superb, almost all the classics are on it and the gig itself was simply splendid! An unforgettable evening on a cold rainy April day.

NOREGS PUNKLAG - Jeg Sitter Bare Her Og Kjeder Meg 7'' 1978

Depending on what you call Punk, this might be the first vinyl-offer in Punk from Norway (along with SUBWAY SUCK) back from 1977-78. While this is more light-weight compared to the bit later releases by KjøttOSLO BØRS and Hærverk it had already the Punk-Wave touch and strong rock elements added to round up the whole (the usual thing with bands that claimed Punk but mostly in the fashion-sense of word). 'Du Er Eit Svin' (it could be anything but YOU ARE A SWINE translated) is a remake of 'God Save The Queen' approaching slightly the ineptitude sort of Punk/Rock. The B-side, (translated 'I'm Just Sitting Here Bored') possibly a WHO remake, is less appealing but not totally different to the 1st song. The singer, as legions back then, carbon-copies Johnny Rotten despite being on a bigger label. It's hard to get, maybe also 'cos one member is often seen in the Norwegian TV these days? Nice paper-bag sleeve, too.

V/A - Rotterdam Spunk 1983

Yet a fine release from the early 80s which came out by Plastic Cheese Records. I've searched a long time to listen to this compilation because I love the early dutch punk scene with their raw and aggressive music. "Rotterdam Spunk is a snapshot of the Rotterdam scene in the early '80s, and if this compilation is an accurate depiction, it was a lively scene at that." - So this quote is taken from here and if you want more info so your're a click away. I feel really crappy and can barely focus to write something reasonable here. So at least a further quote which I can only underline: "Although it's obviously long out of print. I'll warn you - it may open your eyes to a punk scene you were never aware of, and you may end up on a record store quest to not only find your own copy of Rotterdam Spunk, but to also track down recordings by all these bands, as well as releases by bands from other scenes worldwide that you never knew existed." - Nothin' more to add!

1.Before You Go - KOTX
2.The Naked Kiss - THE MORTAL VIRTUE
3.Speedy Harry - J.DOPS BAND
4.Negative - SCHIZOIDPHRENICS
5.Under My Flag - DEFECT
6.Walk In Line - N.O.A.T.H.
7.No Religion - N.O.A.T.H.
8.Break Away (Live) - FORMALINE
9.Get Ugly - THE END
10.Endlösung (Live) - THE END
11.I Am Not Your Toy - BUNKER
12.Am I (Live) - PROJEKT III
13.Zet Het Gedonder Tot Een Stop - GENIEPIG
14.Haatschild - GENIEPIG
15.Lost In Sin - THE DEAD SPIRITS
16.Raise Hell - SPIKED COPY
17.Sometimes (Live) - DEBIELE EENHEID

T.N.T. - Manifiesto Guernika 1983

One of the pillars and most important records of early Andalusia punk, this LP from 1983 was the only official studio album by Granada's TNT. (A Spanish band that shouldn't be mistaken for an identically-named Swiss group). They mixed '77 punk, early 80s post-punk and late period Clash in a record that covered themes such as the Spanish Civil War, George Orwell's "1984", Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange" and the poetic influence of the band's place of origin. In January 1982 they recorded the demo Una Naranja Mecánica, which included covers of Clash songs, “Johnny B. Goode” and original songs. At the end of 1982 they signed a contract with DRO to record their awesome single "Cucarachas". That 7” was followed by one of the most impressive singles of early ’80s Spanish punk: TNT paired “Guernika,” based on Pablo Picasso’s painting, with “Gilmore ’77”, an intense track about the case of U.S. convict Gary Gilmore. When in early 1983 the record label told them they needed to release an album, the band had already conceived a specific project, a kind of collage where they could express the ideas they had in mind. And the result is this pearl here.

A review: "This debut album from Spain's TNT is a mixed success. It contains a brace of melodic mid-tempo punkers with bouncy appeal, but there are also a couple of catchy pop ditties (like "Deberías Tener Cuidado"), silly commercial numbers ("Radio Crimen Charleston"), post-punk things ("La Noche..."), and even synth muzak ("El Jardin Extranjero"). "Habitácion 101", "Sin Futuro" and "Nadsat" are the most appealing of the previously unreleased cuts." - Jeff Bale (from Maximum Rocknroll #16, August 1984)

The band would carry on with some line-up changes until they finally split up in 1985. Since then, they have reunited on different occasions, the last one more recently, when they decided to re-record some of this tracks and the reissue with original insert came out in a limited edition in 2010 on Munster Records. I know, you enjoy this brilliant gem because your hearts at the right place.

MAGIC DE SPELL - A Body In A Snare 1983

Punk/New Wave band formed in late 1979 in Athens/Greece by Theodore Vlahakis (drums), George Skarlatos (bass) and Alex Kyriakakis (voice). Their first live appearance was in September 1980 at 'Rock Club Tiffany's' (Plaka/Athens) along with 'Dalton's Family'. They released their debut EP on Happening Records in 1982 and this record is a pure killer!!! You can download it here and after listen to this record it was reason enough for me to post this album. The EP is an awesome kbd punk smasher and I think these are their only punk songs. The band moved then more into a darker wave sound with no fuzzy guitars at all and they make it good. Much keyboards and a gloomy atmosphere accompany the whole album, slighty dreamy and simply charmin' and I hear the platter now for the fourth time in a row. Their first records are in english but after 1993 they chose greek lyrics for their songs. Magic De Spell is described as one of the most known greek rock (inspired punk!) band and they're still active. In 2011 released the greek label Geheimnis Records a limited to 320 hand-numbered copies LP called Nightmare (30th Anniversary Edition) with unreleased and live material of the bands first songs from 1981-1982, highly recommended!!!!

TORPEDO MOSKAU - Malenkaja Rabota 1984

TORPEDO MOSKAU were formed by former members of SLIME, TARGETS & NAPALM and their first apppear with two songs on the compilation Keine Experimente II which was released as well on Weird System, including famous bands such as EA80, Neurotic Arseholes, CHAOS-Z or CRETINS, and a song on the great Life Is A Joke Vol.2 compilation (international bands). The tunes by Torpedo Moskau reminds a little of Wipers and with their psycho-demanding lyrics the four Hamburgs drive at the usual beer & anarchy lyrics of many German-punk bands of the 80s by far. When i first heard the LP, it has me equally excited and for me a milestone in German punk culture. Includes all artwork.

EA80 - Mehr Schreie 1987

What should I write here?????? This is the 3rd EA80 album and it's one of their best record. My Girl and I love this one infinite because it brings musically many things to the point that we both shared like songs 'Von Leeren Herzen', 'Nr 1', 5x4' or 'Ein Tag An Meinem Fenster'. On the back cover stands that this LP was recorded in despair and I can feel this feeling here in every damn song. Never again were the four Gents in a subdued mood as on this album and that makes it so unique. Of course it depends my mood very close yet but even if someone hears the songs for the first time you recognize you'll get a different perspective to things that were considered self-evident, you know...continuously under the skin they prepare real goosebumps atmosphere and if you think you live extremely frightening a simple normal life, so it comes to me anyway. Well, I'm EA80 maniac since the 80's and therefore biased do not spend a lot on my mind, check out for yourself (of course it's better you understood German but the music gives you the right feelin'). Great, Delicious, Awesome, A Must Have!!!!

LOVE A - LVCDM EP 2010

The discovery for me in 2013 is this superb young German band from Trier called Love A, they opened a splendid evening in the old Batschkapp last year as support for Turbostaat. In Luggage their second album 'Irgendwie' and when I listen to their songs I was immediately impressed. Short, melodic and with excellent offensive lyrics. And the boys were in an astonishingly vibrant mood to play so that the hall shaked and abundant Pogo was announced. I shot a little Video from this evening and it's in the file, maybe you get a small insight how great this was. I can only recommend you to get both albums when you love snotty middle finger punk rock!!! Achja, wer im Rhein-Main Gebiet lebt und die Jungs live erleben will hat heute die Chance im 11er in Frankfurt/Sachsenhausen, ich werde natürlich dort sein und eventuell sieht man sich dort. This EP ist their first record, published as Love Academy and these four goodies make thirst for more. Jungs, Weiter So!!!!

V/A - Paranoia You Can Dance To 1986

This compilaton was compiled by the Hamburg label Weird System and features the best of 'vinyl-fanzine' compilations 1 +2 which were released in the US on Flipside/Gasatanka records. All bands/tracks are damn good, no wonder by these names, remarkable the amazing live recording of the classic Misfits cut. But enough of words, perfect combination, nice and informative artwork, what else?

1.Gigantor - THE DICKIES
2.Religious Ripoff - GOVERNMENT ISSUE
3.Noone Is Ever Coming Home - THE FREEZE
4.Fight - SCREAM

6.Warlords - F.U.'s

17.Shoot The Kid - DETOX

TRÖCKENER KECKS - Schliessbaum 1981

Another nice record is the bebut album by Tröckener Kecks. Founded in May 1980 by De Leeuw and Kenter, know each other from the boarding school and they take the initiative to set up a band. Unlike other Amsterdam punk bands in those days they were apolitical. Belong to the second wave of Dutch punk bands (The Ex, The Work Mates, and The Nitwitz) the band release their first EP in the 'do it yourself' principle. Rik Ringers comes out in 1981 and shortly after their first LP, all on TK Records. Musically inspired by the Buzzcocks and the Undertones with great lyrics. The melodic vocals by Edward Tilburg is especially notable for the lyrics: macabre, absurd stories that demonstrate a flawless sense of language. After missing the connection with the punk movement, they are not surfing along on the wave of Dutch bands in the early eighties. With the German-sounding band name has been deliberately pursued other not to be associated with the English upturn already quietly announced in 1980. More records followed but they changed their sound away from the good old dirty punk rock. Anyway, this record is rare as hell, according to my information only 500 copies were pressed.

HI JINX - s/t EP 1980

Here's one from the Wanted-List and I'm glad to post this little wave/punk goodie now, my call were answered. Hi Jinx was a shortlived Punk/New Wave band from Amsterdam and were formed in 1978 by Orpheus Roovers, Erik Eysbouts, and Jan Bloemers. They were an active live band, they toured amongst others in 1979. This litte dittie was released on Rosegarden and all four tunes have this charmin' mid-tempo sound and with 'PunkRocker' is a nice hymn on it and for me the winner here, very good lyrics by the way. Drummer Orpheus Roovers joined Minny Pops in 1982 for a short time. Jan Bloemers (bass/vocals) used to be part of a cult act called Felix Cat Mauw Wauw Groep. One of the members of Hi Jinx has been bass player Hans Witteveen, formerly a member of the famous pop band Drukwerk.

FRESHLY RIOTS - Delightfully Fresh EP 1982

OK, a lot of divshare links are alive and I wanna post asap a few from this folder. The first one is this delicate EP by one on my favourite bands from Denmark. Freshly Riots formed in Gedsted on 1 October 1981. First weeks of the groups life offers several replacements till finally ending with a crew called Jørn Iversen (guitar), Mike Hammer (bass), Christian Pedersen (drums), Michael Andersen on the keyboard and Bo Led Andersen on vocals. Mike and Richard had played together in the group Export and they were inspired by the Clash, Sex Pistols, Stranglers and UK Decay and then they found their sound. After two tapes their first vinyl comes out on Bondeskiver and this brilliant EP offers six classic KBD goodies. In 1984 the full length album 'Hope' (which I have somewhere online) with a more wave oriented sound but great and then they changed their band name into Freshly and released their final album 'Air (Quoth She)' in 1986. The band play at the Huset in Århus their last concert and dissolved finally in May 1989 when Mike and Michael are moving to Århus. Let's now enjoy this little piece of sunshine!

HACKE PETERS - @ Waggon/Offenbach 04.11.2013

Hard to believe but exactly four months ago we joined our last gig together in the Waggon to see the HackePeters with the Genetiks on a cold Monday in November 2013. I never would thought that and I still can't believe it. I mean everything was fine that evening, we had fun and enjoyed ourselves splendidly. I mean, what the hell went wrong? I have no idea. I will probably never get an answer (you see it still concerns me). Coincidentally it's now the day I put this post. I have sat long at the cover and now everything is finished. Hard to find a reconciliation to the music. Hacke Peters stand for short punk songs with funny lyrics and I am glad we both have been there. You can read more info at their homepage and if you wanna get in touch use the contact data on the back cover or visit their site on facebook. Oh, and the sound quality is top as always (thanx Torstn!) and I promise you a shining example of an almost perfect unforgotten evening.

VANDAALIT - Raaputtamalla Rokkia 1981

Vandaalit (Vandals) can be scheduled for the early years of the mid-1970s, wherein the first composition of ramonesk punk. The band start from the beginning with own songs and was originally sung in English but they do it better to change this in their native Finnish language. It is written that they find their style when they listen to Ramones' album 'Leave Home' and so the sound goes in a brilliant melodic way. This is their 2nd album on PokoRekords and the songs have it all, fast and dirty KBD rock & roll in the typical Finnish manner. The band is still active to my knowledge, check them out, here you can't go not wrong.

- Special Thx to Fredrik -

HAGAR THE WOMB - Word Of The Womb 12'' 1984

I continue with my last two posts from WDR and this 12inch is damn good. Hagar The Womb were an English punk rock band, active in the early 1980s and part of the Anarcho-punk movement. Released on Mortarhate Records, the band was formed in London in 1980, in the toilets of the Wapping Anarchy Centre, established by the efforts of seminal anarchist bands Crass and Poison Girls. The original line-up was all-female, reflecting the band's purpose of giving women a voice in the anarcho-punk scene: Ruth Elias (vocals), Karen Amden (vox), Nicola Corcoran (vox), Janet Nassim (guitar), and Steph Cohen (bass). They toured a lot in the UK, release some tapes and two 12inches. In 2011 Mississippi Records brought a compilation with all their recordings out. - Great female melodic punk goodies.
