V/A - Street To Street (A Liverpool Album) 1979

And after Berlin we go over to the British Isles and visit a city with glorious past: Liverpool. This city compilation was brought to us from Open Eye Records and it exists two versions, the original from 1979 and a re-release in 1980 and when I check it correct is the track of Tontrix the only difference, hmm... why is a mystery to me, probably any royalties or rights or anything else, anyway. I have the second edition and there's some info sheets included and I think these were not standard packed. Who cares, this record is a good overview what's goin' on in Liverpool @ the end of the 70's and musically an excellent range of different styles, my favorites are Big In Japan, Modern Eon, The Accelerators (hell yeah!) and the Malchix. An exquisite record and you buy get this piece of vinyl for little money. In any case well invested!

1.Match Of The Day - BIG IN JAPAN
2.Julia's Song - THE ID
3.194 Radio City - JAQUI & JEANETTE
4.Benched Down/70s Sixties - MODERN EON

V/A - Alter! Das Album 1991

This cool compilation is full with rare Berlin punk goodies which was released on Pogar Records and the most tracks are from 7Inches which nowadays very sought and partly overpriced offered. Some bands later made one or two albums (search this Blog for more) which are still brilliant records and Berlin had a really varied, musical, range of bands, similar to Hamburg or Munich. The first 2000 releases came with photocopied insert including Pogar discography, some lyrics and background information about the Berlin punk scene 1977-1991. I unfortunately have not anymore the original vinyl, yes, yes, I know :(, but this is a very good rip and should be suffice in the mp3 age.

1.Vaterland - VORKRIEGSJUGEND
2.Rache - VORKRIEGSJUGEND
3.Heute Spaß, Morgen Tod - VORKRIEGSJUGEND
4.Armageddon - VELLOCET
5.Here's A Warning - VELLOCET
6.Hoax - MALINHEADS
7.Medical Fame - MALINHEADS
8.Manchmal Hab Ich's Satt - HARNRØHRER
9.Bombenterror - MARPLOTS
10.Skate Tonight - DISASTER AREA
11.Teenage Nightmare - THE VOICE
12.Grießbrei - DIE SCHLIMMEN FINGER
13.Das Lied Für Fritz - HONKAS
14.Blitzkrieg Bop - WALTONS

MYSTERY GIRLS - These Boots Are Made For Walkin' 7'' 1983

A classic one with this all-female band, the Mystery Girls from the States with their debut 7inch on Casino Records. Side A offers a nice cover version of Lee Hazelwood's classic while the flip 'Ego' is a catchy powerpop cracker and for me the winner. A short review brings it to the point: "A weird mixture here. The geetars on the old Nancy Sinatra hit are restrained and tasteful, but on "Ego", the Mystery Girls really cut loose with dirty rock 'n' roll riffing à la Johnny Thunders. Cool as hell. - Jeff Bale (from Maximum RockNRoll #6, May/June 1983) - Wonder why they are not on any compilations or am I missing something there? Anyway, maybe someone change this sometime.

RAKKETAX - s/t EP 1981

From Utrecht came Rakketax: Jeroen Dunselman (vocals, bass, drums), Harry Haakman (ditto) and Niels de Hoog (guitar) and they frequently occurred in the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy, one of the earlier punkbands from that city and they started with four members and contribute a song on the legendary Utreg Punx EP compilation. After Fredje left the band, Rakketax continued as a three piece band and were one of the more melodic bands in that time. This record is produced by the band and comes with six classic punk tunes.

TREDJE KÖNET - Fågeln 12'' 1987

A cool decent follow-up to their excellent debut Fyra Hits EP from 1986. Pressed again on Rosa Honung Records shines this platter with an excellent production and seven punkrock goodies. Clearly heard that the four men were very hardworking and I find their music has become richer and more mature (compare the songs with the .EP compilation from 1985). Really nice interplay! This twenty minute rocket is very interesting as well. From the beginning to the end a decent tempo, perfect harmony guitars, powerful drums sound as I like it, fat bass and a loud voice. Particularly noteworthy is the successful ballad 'Tankar' which stimulates my ears again. Overall Fågeln makes for a good listen and has a permanent place in my player conquered.

DIE STAMMELNDEN HEIMKINDER - Bitte Alle Recht Fröhlich 1988 + Heut' Schon Gestammelt? 1989

This band from Witten were founded 1986 and they released three records (all 500 copies) on Schrägton Records and Tralala Records, the most famous is probably the split with Cretin Hoppers. In this file are their two rare mini albums and the Stammelnden Heimkinder make solid punkrock with funny lyrics, the fun is focussed and you can hear it. In 1987 Heavy Hummel, a keyboarder, joined the band and gave their music more swing. Of course for non-German speaking bit difficult to understand and it's not my rip so I can't put unfortunately a text translation with in. Anyway listen to the music and get this!

EA80 - Hinter Den Dingen 10'' 2000

EA80 is punk and all their albums are complete after some tough discussions, they don't need, see no point in pandering to the music industry that is why all records were released in a familiar, loving D.I.Y. manner and that's a good thing. A true gem in the german punk rock world is this strictly limited 10'' of 1400 copies which came out in 2000. Two beautiful ballads with a playing time of twenty minutes. The band also creates it full again and convince those who know only the fast and aggressive songs which are also fantastic (Licht!). Atmospheric, intense, anger and desperation wrapped in a guitar sound that is quite alone in this country. EA80 is a band which keep their standard high for over twenty years. This 10inch is one of the best records in the world and should be in every collection and incidentally, this is probably the most colorful EA80 cover and the next concert is not far away. Thanks a lot for this awesome music!

V/A - Victim Of Safety Pin 2003

A request of a visitor from Poland next and I am happy because I didn't listen to the LP for a long time and so I came in touch again: Polski Punk Underground 1977-82. Released on Supreme Echo and 1100 copies were pressed. This record is absolute punk. The sound quality is not the best, sometimes close to the pain barrier but all these tunes are all originals, rare live and rehearsal recordings which would otherwise have remained lost in the eternal blackness and this would be fatal if you look at the songlists. On the MySpace site from Supreme Echo I have this for you: "The critically acclaimed, first and most accurate documentation on the development of punk, new wave, and hardcore in the former People's Republic of Poland. This document provides not only in depth history's of each band featured, but also a well constructed history of rock and roll in Poland, and it's eventual evolution into punk - and how it all fits into the sociological, cultural, and political world around it. Seriously, I feel that this is one of the most interesting and crucial pieces of punk rock's forgotten history, and I recommend it most highly.” (MRR-Nov.2003) - Seventeen songs, fourteen bands, twenty page booklet with massive essay and biographies (unfortunately not inside). - Top record and it's no wonder this sucker was quickly sold out.
