INOCENTES - Miséria E Fome 1988

Recently we hosted Olho Seco and speaking of important & influential bands from Brazil, the Inocentes are definitely one of them, an essential hardcore combo that made it as famous as... useless Infos: Inocentes is one of the oldest active Punk combos in Brazil. The group was formed 1981 in São Paulo by Ariel (vocals), Callegari (guitars), Clemente (bass) & Marcelino (drums), former members of pioneer locals Restos de Nada and Condutores de Cadáver. During their first incarnation in the first half of the 1980s, they played basic energetic and politically charged Hardcore/Punk, exemplified by the Grito Suburbano compilation tracks. The band's powerful performances and firm stance soon raised it to the level of one of the movement's spokespersons. Clemente (bass) wrote in his 1982 manifesto: “We are here to revolutionize Brazilian popular music, to paint Asa Branca in black, delay the Trem das Onze, step on Geraldo Vandré’s flowers and make Amélia a woman.” Whatever, they were one of the most requested bands of the movement at that time, present in several TV articles, magazines and in the documentary “Garotos Do Subúrbio” by Fernando Meirelles. In 1983 they released the Miséria E Fome EP on their own and in Germany two tracks on the Life Is A Joke compilation (my first encounter with the band) via Weird System. At the end of the same year the band ended their activities.

In early 1984, Inocentes returned to the stage with a new sound and formation, appeared in the Rock Paulista scene in 1986, were hired by Warner and signed in the same year as the first Brazilian Punk band to a multinational label. They released the mini-LP Pânico Em SP and embark on their first national tour, gaining exposure across the country and eventually reaching mainstream media and the general public. Still with Warner, they released two more albums, 1987's Adeus Carne and 1989's Inocentes. This file is the re-release by Devil Discos and all tracks were recorded 1983, the first four tracks were released on the debut EP and the rest not. Reasons are from liner notes on insert: "This record should have been released in mid-1983, but due to problems with censorship, we were obliged to turn this LP into a 'compact'." And since I don't know exactly why and my Portuguese is rusty, I can't say more about it. It's not important either. Fact is: this record is excellent stuff with a great pissed sound how I love it and not uninteresting for Wenke Myhre fans.

OLHO SECO - Os Primeiros Dias EP 1988

One is still going today, freshly ripped and now on the table: we enjoy Brazil's greatest Hardcore band and they have 100% to smash your shack: Olho Seco, and they played rough and fuzzy music somehow retained a melodic undercurrent, making their songs instantly ingrained in the old medula for all time and the interesting thing about their music is the totally distorted recordings and I always think about it, do they use a guitar? Their songs sound like a harvester or a forest worker, so I'm really blown away every time when I listen to this fucking noises. Sure is, this is a perfecrt record for all raw Hardcore maniacs worldwide and you certainly like bands such as Ratos De Porão or Lixomania. Olho Seco were from São Paulo, formed in 1980 and on this record were involved Fabio (vocals), Redson (guitars), Val (bass), Sartana (drums) and this blast was released via New Face Records. The raw and direct sound typical of Punk bands became heavier and faster in Olho Seco's interpretation, which helped the band win respect and influence new generations of Punks. After their compilation tracks they put out the split album Botas, Fuzis, Capacetes (available today at inflated prices) with Brigada Do Ódio, this split was very well received and resulted in the band being invited to participate in many international compilations such as Welcome To 1984, released by Maximum Rock'N'Roll. After that, Olho Seco released several albums on their own and many tributes to this band have been produced, the most important being the Tributo A Olho Seco compilation, which included the greatest Punk/HC bands in Brazil, as well as Força Macabra (from Finland) and Cripple Bastards (from Italy). At the end of the day, Olho Seco continues to be faithful to the style which they made famous: fast & agressive Punkrock.

ULSTER - M-19 EP 1995

Rough, aggressive and absolutely true, Ulster lived for two years rehearsing and playing in São Paulo's most obscure ghettos. They left the shadow of anarchy wherever they passed, with extremely fast and distorted music along with a unique look. Some facts from the long unfortunately deactivated KFTH archive: "In 1979, São Paulo's ABC region was Brazil's largest industrial complex, employing thousands of metallurgists. At the same time, there appeared the first signs of a huge social crisis that would shake the structure of the country. The Brazilian Detroit produced not only strikes and unemployment, but also insurrection in several cultural fields - specifically in the music scene which drew its inspiration from the European and American punk movement. The first crop of punk bands had no technological resources, only their dissatisfied scream. Ulster were one of these first bands to give back to the system its own aggression with visual and sonic violence.

In the end of 1979, in the industrial shed of São Bernardo do Campo, Ulster was born, with Betão (drums), Vladi (bass), Luiz (also in Brigada do Ódio and Olho Seco) on guitar and Mauro (vocals). The sound was fast and noisy, energetic and compelling, with direct influences of early '80s punk, such as Discharge, Disorder, etc. The name was inspired by the terrorists of the IRA (Irish Republican Army), who fought battles in the streets of Ulster, Ireland. As a result, the lyrics they wrote were quite provocative and many of them dealt with acts of terrorism, such as the songs "M-19," "Bandeiras Vermelhas" ("Red Flags"), "Morte Aos Velhos," etc."This EP has five songs from their 1982 demo and they don't show sound quality, they show rebellion in its more pure and real state.

V/A - What Are You Doing About That Hole In Your Head? 1986

I don't know about you, but the hysteria over the Corona Shit gets on my nerves. I think all the measures, curfew, protective mask, cancellations are exaggerated, who knows what the Chinese were doing? What is certain is that they have triggered a pandemic and the European Football Championship will probably not take place this summer. Is that just a flu infection that made a lot of people die in a short time? The old and the sick are quickly affected and many die of flu, but this is normal because their immune systems is weak and society buys like stupid, that only makes clear how hollow they are and rely on the government and I think this brilliant compilation from Rot Records fits: What Are You Doing About That Hole In Your Head? Seventeen international nuggets for you to clear your mind... stay vertical!

TERVEET KÄDET - Black God 1984

Want wild fast short loud songs? Now the opportunity has come: Terveet Kädet (Healthy Hands) were Finnish hardcore punx, the first in Finland and the band was founded in Tornio, January 1980 by Läjä (vocals), Tiimo (guitars), Piäsky (bass) and Peedro (drums). They have had a major influence on bands from all over the world, especially in Brazil (which some have claimed was because of a member from the leading band Olho Seco and his enthusiasm and connections to that country's scene). Max Cavalera of Sepultura and Soulfly has mentioned Terveet Kädet as one of his all-time favourite bands. The band's line-up changed several times, and the singer Veli-Matti "Läjä" Äijälä was the only permanent member. The four are guests on numerous compilations. Black God was released via Rock-O-Rama records with a studio and live side, twenty-one killers in just under seventeen minutes. Any questions?

DZK - De Geração Para Geração Eternamente Punk 1993

A successful blend of early Olho Seco mixed with a pinch of Oi! and the sound of the 90's, that is DZK, a brazilian combo from Santo André/São Paulo. The band had a hard beginning, always line-up changes and on their only album were: Barata (vocals), Charuto (bass), Flexa (guitars) and Makarrão (drums) involved I think, released via We Love Music Company and this is the CD version with seven more tracks from the rare 7Inches they recorded before. Twenty-one famose goodies can be heard and I promise you will love them all. I don't know if the boys keep making music, but there's some info in the file, you should check.

V/A - Grito Suburbano 1982

An absolute number one Hardcore platte is this 'short' compilation from South America which appeared on Punk Rock Discos and became rightly several times re-released on CD and Vinyl. The Créme de la Créme of this genre is represented here, three bands, twelve killers. At the moment I hear lots of fast & aggressive music and with this record of course I can blast my fucking mind out (you will certainly agree)! It's not my rip, nevertheless, always a post worth. V/A - The End Was At Hand [Special] 2012

This nice comp was created by my Austrian mate Reinhard (at that time for the legendary, much-loved WildDevilRules blog). Cause was the general hysteria the world would end in 2013, according to the Mayas and well, it's doomsday and I wonder why all these spinners in poor hippie clothes such an uprising practice. The world goes down slowly and not otherwise. I must confess, I did not much notice of a new Apocalypse and honestly I don't give a shit. I demand doomsday as a public holiday where we all not must work. Maybe the Mayas sacrificed more people that day as usual. Well fuck it, the masses needs always some shit where they can hold on to, funny that it's always at the turn of the year, has almost become a tradition. Idiots!!! Not only this was the occasion for my Austrian friend Reinhard to create this self-made compilation here but also to put his favorite songs in a splendid selection on a CD, adorned with a glossy cover. And the result is great, brilliant punkrock from all corners of the world in beautiful order. Great Stuff!! A few words from Mr. Reinhard to the CD:

"Seems that armageddon didn't happen yet - so what shall we do now?? ;-) To celebrate this suprising fact I've compiled a sampler with songs I really like - hopefully you'll like them too. So this one's for you survivors - have fun & all the best! ...and of course: any comments are highly appreciated!"

I hope you enjoy this exclusive gem and may you create your own sampler at the next pay raise, volcanic eruption, child birth, flood, castration, lung cancer, be in love and don't forget: the next end of the world comes certainly....

LIXOMANIA - Violência & Sobrevivência EP 1982

Last for today, a fresh EP with classic KBD stuff. Lixomania was a punk rock band from Brazil, formed 1979 in Sao Paulo by Adauto "Ada" (bass), Tikinho (guitar & vox) and Zú on (drums), they started playing in the late 70s, mainly influenced by early UK Punk heroes Sex Pistols, The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, UK Subs, etc...they become one of the first Brazilian punk-bands and also released one of the first punk records. After some years in practice Lixomania made their first presentation at a meeting of unheard punk bands with only three songs in their repertoire and they played an awesome show, on the same day other pretty punk bands like Inocentes, Colera & Olho Seco showed up. Today all their records are classics. 1982 they released this record (their only one) with 6 brilliant punk smashers and they appear on the O Começo Do Fim Do Mundo compilation LP with a very badly recorded song - it was recorded on a walkman! A lot of gigs followed and Lixomania was the first punk band to play outside of Sao Paulo state and in March 1983 the band split and than later changed their name to 365 and became a new wave band. 365 still exists today. Review: "Lixomania sound a bit like some of the better new English bands, but with an edge and vocal rawness more reminiscent of Finnish groups. There's one thrasher and a bunch of mid-tempo punk songs covering themes like punk not dying, massacres of innocent people, etc. The lyrics are in Portugese, the language of Brazil." - Tim Yohannon (from Maximum Rock'n'Roll #5, March/April 1983)

- Special Thx to Reinhard -

CODIGO NEUROTICO - s/t EP 1983

Código Neurótico is an awesome Punk band from Terrassa/Spain. They were founded on a hot summer of 1981 and left the scene in 1998. During that time they did many concerts and a few records. In 2010 the band reformed again and continue rehearsing. A friend was interested in reissuing old Codigo stuff on his label Black Sheep Records to keep alive the memory of the group. The result of this is a compilation with 20 tracks called 'Sin Batalla Ni Bandera'. Here is their debut EP with five typical Spanish Hardcore/Punk numbers, reminds me a bit of Olho Seco, short, rough and excellent beats. If anyone has their 'En La Barra Del Bar' 12'' please drop me a mail.
