V/A - OX-Compilation #57 2004

Time for another OX compilation and because CD days are I have decided #54. As always a very diverse mix by bands from all the beautiful corners of our kaput world. You can imagine why I bought this Heftschä, after twenty years finally the first song of the Vorsicht Schreie slab was released. But apart from that, some old acquaintances present with new songs and many more interesting combos with very heartwarming sounds. For all collectors sure a welcome post, allow me the #53 link at this point, and for sure I'll let some follow. I must say these CD's kick a lot after a long time without listen.

RUBBER CITY REBELS - s/t LP 1980

Last post March and sailing across the Atlantic and stop in Akron, Ohio and meet the Rubber City Rebels, formed 1977 by Rod (vocals), Buzz (guitar), Donny (bass), Stix (drums) and Pete (keyboards). Let me give you a bit info from wiki: "In their early years, the Rebels were fans (and friends) of fellow Greater Cleveland-area bands the Dead Boys and Devo. Their breakout show was opening for the Dead Boys at legendary New York City rock club CBGB in 1977. This led to a split album with the Bizarros, titled From Akron, which was released that year on Clone Records. The Rebels moved to Los Angeles in 1978, minus Pelton (who was replaced on drums by Mike Hammer) and Sake (keyboards were deemed unnecessary for the band's change to a heavier sound), and gained considerable fame on the Sunset Strip. The band was signed to Sire Records; however, a clash between band and record label ensued and the recording contract was terminated before the Rebels could record their debut album. Following some personnel changes (Damage and Hammer left to form the Hammer Damage Band, replaced by Johnny Bethesda and Brandon Matheson, respectively), the Rebels signed a deal with Capitol Records and the eponymous debut album was released in 1980. Although praised by critics, sales of the album never vaulted the band past its underground status. In 1981 a 7Inch follows and the band faded from the scene and ceased touring in 1988, although they never officially disbanded. Despite not touring or recording any new material through the 1990s, the Rebels' reputation and support among fans remained strong and in 2001 the Rebels were back and still alive." So let's enjoy ten superb Ohio crackers and have a great weekend.

NISSES NÖTTER - Hammerhill Holocaust '83-'85

I'm ready for KARIES and FRONT in Wiesbaden and I'm in a hurry so a quick post and a yummy Hardcore Attack. This band had no official release and I wonder why because they're damn good. Nisses Nötter was a punkband from the suburb Hammarkullen in Gothenburg. Hansi Baumgartner (guitar), Nico Bergling (vocals), Tommie Liekola (bass) and Hans Wilholm (drums) started to play together in 1983. They made a cassette for Äggtapes called "Knäckta Nötter" in 1984. They made lots of gigs in Gothenburg and became famous mostly for their young age =11-12 year old punkrockers! And their gang: HK-Punks. Paul Vahala replaced Tommie as bass player in 1985. A few gigs were made and then the band went seperate ways. Nisses Nötter became The Nuts in 1986. In 2006 Nisses Nötter were regenerated, new songs were made and the band is out for gigs. Maybe their first record will come out, who knows. In 2008 the American label Farmhouse records released this superb compilation with all their recordings, some live stuff. A brilliant documentation plus a great artwork with lots of pictures, all lyrics and a short biography. "Punx not dead, we're only a bit older." All is said, haut rein boys!

V/A - On The Street 1984

This awesome and rare compilaton was released by Sane Records and they give out one of the best UK Punk records ever (I mean it). This album features eighteen nuggets by British punk bands in their original demo form taken from the bands studio-recorded master tapes: "The idea behind Sane Records is to give "undiscovered" bands a chance to be "on disc" so that their music can be heard by people who wouldn't normally hear it, also all of us." Brilliant attitude and I wish more non-profit labels would do the same. The song selection is quite fantastic and the rough and dirty sound kicks in every way. I think there were not much copies pressed so catch one when you have the chance. Essential stuff!!!!

1.Why? - PRIMITIVE
2.Soul City Boys - VICIOUS HAMSTERS
3.Suburbia's Dream - ACID ATTACK

SHAM PISTOLS - Natural Born Killer 2008

In 1979 ex-Pistols Cook & Jones teamed up with Sham's Pursey & Treganna to form a Punk Rock super group. Unfortunately it doesn't work, so only one studio session happened. The result: four catchy tracks, sounding exactly like The Professionals with Pursey on vocals. On the flip side you'll get the 4 encore tracks of Sham's Last Stand (Apollo Theatre, Glasgow). Way back in 1979, the “merger” of the Sex Pistols with Sham 69 caused, for a brief moment, a great deal of excitement. With Johnny now in PiL and Sid dead, both fans and the press waited eagerly for news on Steve and Paul's next move. By May '79 it seemed the answer was known. The boys would be joined by Sham 69's Jimmy Pursey and Dave “Kermit” Treganna. Known for the time being as the Sham Pistols – until a name could be settled on - they went into Manor Studios, Oxford, to lay down some tracks. By August the group was in tatters. It took over 30 years for these songs to emerge. Enjoythem. As for the vinyl pressing itself, the quality of the recordings is very good, if slightly muddy. Side two adds weight to this. Recorded live at Glasgow Apollo, when Steve and Paul appeared for Sham 69's encore in June ‘79, Pursey can be heard bigging himself up, ranting that he told Steve and Paul to get rid of McLaren then he would sing for them, alongside his tales of how he's in the newspapers every day. The whole Sham Pistols episode had a detrimental effect on both camps. After the band fell apart, Pursey went on to reform Sham 69 but with limited success. Steve & Paul went into limbo before emerging a year later as The Professionals.

V/A - Killed By Death 1989

With this record the Killed By Death (Motörhead 1984) serie is born and stands today for brilliant punkrock of the glory late 70s-early 80s days. Everyone knows today what is meant. This copy was released 500 times, later re-released without the Beastie Boys tracks. I guess, I'm not the only one who is grateful for this serie, and I think the makers have not thought it would so fuckin' bang in and become lots of followers. Sure, all these records are bootlegs and the bands never seen any royalties, you can think what you want, but I think it was a good idea because many bands don't exist or the members are out of sight. Anyway, ultimately offer the plates a fantastic overview of what was cool that time and the originals are long sold out and therefore a good thing. Well, let's see when there is a new release comin' along.

V/A - Killed By Death #4 1989

Well, nothin' new in Blogland with this post but this is my vinyl rip and if you have this unoffical record without artwork then choose this file and see all the liner notes inside. So, this is the last of the first four KBD classics. There are others in the series that are good, great even, but these set the stage for what has become a genre into itself. Almost as good as Volume 2, this marks the end of the contribution from the originator of the series. Mostly excellent tracks, the inclusion of both songs from the stupidly rare Rotters 7" is a bonus. Same for the 4 out 5 tracks from the Zero Boys EP. First pressing (700 copies) on black vinyl with yellow and black labels. Subsequent pressings on green vinyl with white and green labels. Also available on CD. Don't hesitate, click right now!!!!

1.Stoned To Death - ZERO BOYS
2.Stick To Your Guns - ZERO BOYS
3.Sink The Whales (Buy Japanese Goods) - THE ROTTERS
4.Disco Queen - THE ROTTERS
5.Modern Needs - REALLY RED

V/A - Burning Ambitions (A History Of Punk) 1982

Burning Ambition: The History of Punk, attempts to be a definitive overview of the British (except DK) wave/punk scene in the late 70s/early 80s and while it falls short of its goals, it's nevertheless an admirable effort. Surely some of you, like me, have the original records at home but this double album should become a favorite of yours, because this record is one of the finest punk compilations which is ever released. V/A - Killed By Dentistry #1 2000

From me a very long sought piece of vinyl and now I can finally put it from my Wanted List, the rarest KBD compilation around and this awesome record was pressed in an edition of 200 copies with only bands from the English language area of our beautiful planet. Each copy had a  unique "blood" splattered cover and if you believe the rumors outside a crazy dentist have fabricated this one. I think it rather less but perhaps comes a judge or astronaut to the same idea. A damn cool selection of some well know songs and obscure scree provide absolute listening pleasure. So the weekend can begin.
