WASTE - The Next Century Is Almost Over EP 2023

Holy Shit!! a legend is back after more than forty years with a fucking blast! In case you can't remember, WASTE released their one and only great History Repeats EP in the early 80's and now they're in the mood for loud & peppy music again. Their new 7Inch delivers four compositions in a recognizable Waste manner. Dynamic, energetic and with a pissed off feeling the boys bang out their songs so that no part of your body doesn't want to vibrate, and believe me, every shitty thought will wash away from you and you'll hear this slab over and over again. Responsible for these jaw dropping tracks is the incredibly tight rhythm section of bassist Still Klaus, drummer Fred Flintstone, the brutal voice of Bompa RR and the totally damaging fuzz guitar and songwriting skills of Hans F. Ford, who of course is also known from his outstanding current fuzz-duo Ford's Fuzz InfernoThe band hasn't lost any of its aggressiveness and joy of playing, the sound is fat and powerful (although I prefer the early Eighties sound but these recordings grab me by collar) and you can Pogo with every note, Hardcore/Punk at its best and you should definitely get a copy, but you have to be quick because only 375 copies were pressed. With Waste, the long weekend can start and whoever sits still while listen, is definitely dead. KILLER!

THE SLINKEES - Who Cares? EP 2022

Now a real rarity and an awesome release, and this 7Inch is part of the First Six Dischord Records box set which came out last year and this is the surprise single with five unreleased songs by the Slinkees which were recorded on cassette by Andy Nelson in Jeff’s parents’ basement in Washington, DC on 21.August 1979. The Slinkees consisted of Mark (vocals), Geordie (guitar), Ian (bass) and Jeff (drums) and it comes in a collage-style sleeve featuring the cereal mascot Cap’n Crunch and includes an insert adorned with photos and a lengthy written history of the band. The band played one single show, in a friend's garage, before vocalist Mark exited for college. The remaining members regrouped as The Teen Idles with new singer Nathan and made one cool 7Inch, Minor Disturbance, as wellThe spirit of the late Seventies Punk explosion can be heard clearly, authentic & charming and the sound quality is absolutely sufficient. Music how I love it and I wish, more treasures like this were dug up. Apparently the box set is no longer officially available and if you want a copy you have to dig deep into your pocket.

DIE BÖSE HAND - Blumen 7'' 1993

Now to a band where I didn't have to think long and hard about whether I should buy their records or not, NO!... that was compulsory and couldn't go wrong. We're talking about Die Böse Hand and this three piece was a side project featuring the voice of EA80 Junge, drummer Ulf and the voice/guitar of Martin, both from the Boxhamsters. Both singers also play guitar/bass on the recordings. The band seems to exist only temporarily again from time to time and five 7Inches were released from 1990 to 1996 and mostly cover versions of world hits were recorded in their own style. 'Blumen' is their third single and it's the short version of the awesome Ranola track (a fucking must listen if you don't know this slab) and it's a single-sided record, the B-sides are featuring hand drawn designs that are unique to each copy like little flowers or even season greetings ("Christmas 2003"). Limited copies were painted by the mother of band member Co. All songs were released on one CD via Bad Moon/Musikzimmer in 2004 and I haven't forgotten, this one will follow.

JOHNNY CONCRETE - Come With... EP 1980

Explosive five track EP on Dandelion Records by Johnny Concrete which consisted of Johnny (vocals), Michael & Jan (guitars), S. E. Frogg (bass), Claus (drums) and this record is one of the best releases from Denmark. Every song is a real KBD cracker and shortly after the release the band broke up and Johnny formed Dream Police, who continued to wrote very good songs and made a few records (six to date), but didn't get the rough and powerful sound of this slab, but still worth listening to, and I reckon a twenty song album would be very much sought nowadays. Well, those words say it all, also the Compilations the boys are on should be part of any decent record collection. Do yourself a favour & spend a short time with Johnny.

V/A - Bloodstains Across Philadelphia 2011

Let's start the last week of April with a 'deception' and at first I thought WOW!, another Killer compi. of this brilliant series but that's not the case and I was, perhaps, a little disappointed at first sight but I'm a fan of creative ideas and I like this about the slab, and already irritation gives way to enthusiasm, that's innovation! A few words of the makers about all this: "Try not to let the name or cover fool you, what we have here is a brand NEW Philadelphia Punk & Hardcore record showcasing twnty-four bands that the city of Brotherly Love currently has to offer. In an age where the compilation has pretty much gone the way of the dinosaur, it's quite impressive to see not only a twenty-four song compilation, but an entirely regional one to boot. Great cover art in the tradition of the classic Bloodstains series, and a nice full size booklet (I haven't scanned because it's too much work) featuring one page per band. If you were curious to see what's been going down in Philly these days, this is a good place to start!" - Cool record, cool bands, cool music and there is enough splendid stuff for everyone, Heureka!

SKROTEEZ - Overspill EP 1982

Skroteez was a Scottish four piece from Craigshill (known to locals as 'Crazyhill'), Livingston, formed 1980 by Hendo (vocals), Bill (guitars), Tony (bass), Stu (drums) and they were the first Livi band to release a record, the 1982 three track Overspill EP on Square Anarchy Music and is a reference to their hometown Livingston. A bit background: "Livingston was a "new town", which refers to a set of towns created under acts of parliament to reduce overcrowding in urban centers (also known as an "overspill estate"). Livingston was the result of the government's Glasgow slum clearance policy. The band's song 'Newtown' references to this, and the word -Livi- in the song title 'Livi Punks' is a reference to those town. For a time, there were violent rivalries between the Livi punks, and Punks in nearby cities, described by Welshy of External Menace in his account ("The Pish between Two Shittys"), and the song "Livi Punks" seems to indicate that the Skroteez were a part of this." The 7Inch wasn't the best Punk slab of 1982 but it was also far from the worst - got a decent review in 'Sounds' Punk section.

LAST STAND - Approved Cuts 1986

🌞 The warmest day so far this year and I'm in a very good mood and therefore a second post before I dedicate myself to the Bundesliga afterwards and exactly a month ago, Boston's Last Stand made their first notice at wdthtc with their spilt 7Inch from 1984 and today I post their debut on One Way Productions and this four piece existed since 1982 and I can't understand why a few Fuckers sort them to the Oi! genre?? In my opinion, their sound has nothing to do with the typical Oi! stuff so what the hell? On the contrary, I wholeheartedly agree with FPFTP's words: "They combine the best aspects of Boston's PowerPop bands like the Real Kids or DMZ with the fire of England's most biting political Punks, such as the Clash or Stiff Little Fingers. Perfect snarling vocals are worked into rousing music that's deceptively simple - It works its way into your head, rolls around and gets stuck. Like many of the best Rock And Roll bands, Last Stand have a slight blues influence haunting the guitars, setting the chords on fire. Charging Punk that swaggers with Rock & Roll bliss!" - That's exactly it. They have also been guests on Compilations, but they're all largely unknown to me, do you have any? gladly sending me. 🌞

DADDY★MEMPHIS & THE OIBERTS - Tu Nicht's Gut EP 1997

From Brühl came DaddyMemphis and he is around since the end of the Eighties and released one album Total Derb on his own label Ziegenkopf RecordsThe album is full of songs with sometimes not too serious lyrics about bourgeois small-mindedness and certainly drifting in the direction of Fun-Punk (I hate this category) but musically played decently and keep their sarcastic touch brilliantly. Unfortunately little noticed in the scene and after three more 7Inches he took a short break and came back and founded the Oiberts in ca. 1995 and the line-up consisted of Daddy (vocals/guitars), Reiner (guitars), Chris (bass), Tod (drums) and they made three albums, two 7Inches and since 2003 is silence. Daddy probably passed away in 2022, at least that's what I came across when I searched the net, but I'm not sure. Tu Nicht's Gut is a very good EP which came in different kinds of colored vinyl and has four catchy songs, including a great cover of Devo's 'Mongoloid', one of the best songs ever written in my opinion, plus three more interesting Gassenhauer, and even if the band name seems a bit strange and suggests bumpy music, I can only say positive things about the four and I like their sound, because a Punker life is exhausting enough.

THE STANDBYS - E.P. 1980

A nice 7Inch for the weekend and this is the Standbys one & only record on World Records. Founded 1978 in San Diego by four students and the band consisted of Tom (vocals/bass), Dave & Jeff (guitars), Ted (drums). The roots of the band go back to jam sessions between guitarist Dave and his brother-in-law, including a few party gigs playing Ramones covers, soon accompanied by singer/bassist Tom. According to Dave in a local Snare 'zine interview, "The name of the band came from it being flashed on the TV. It was either that or technical difficulties, but I couldn't spell it." Word of mouth increased after they opened for the Clash at Golden Hall in October 1979. "The Clash were really nice," says Dave. "I've never been so scared in my life was I was at that show. But Mick Jones thought we were really neat." (San Diego Reader) - The Standbys recorded an album alongside this single called Buy Now Or Die Dumb but I'm not sure if its came out, and split up in 1985. One song was later featured on their only compilation appearance, Back To Front Vol.4.

V/A - Oi! Rare & Exotica Vol.2 1999

Let's continue with the second unofficial Volume of massive rare Oi! goodies and again released via Teenage Rebel Records and the selection is excellently cast with twenty-three tracks, which stretched out the middle finger towards to the boring establishment. This time with an info sheet and a few words from it: "Again a lot of more or less unknown bands from all over the world are featured with recordings from 1981-1998. Everybody should know the 80's Oi! bands from England, so there's no need to present them here again like on many other Oi! Compis. So discover something new, have fun and always remember: The world is big, manigfold and real Oi! is anti-rascist (which doesn't mean it's leftwing)." Together with Volume 1 this record offers a lot of exclusive material, good songs and every band doesn't sound dull or wooden, what means in the end: no stupid music goulash. Get both!
