ROCKS - Final Assault 12'' 1988

Bill (vocals/guitars), Peter (bass), Nasser (drums), better known as Rocks which formed in Sydney 1976 and this is their last 80s output on Waterfront Records with four decent numbers. Rocks broke up in June 1978. The band has reunited several times since with different drummers and this 12Inch is the product during this period. This line-up recorded two years later the cool Combat Zone album and since then they've been touring here and there and their last release is twenty years ago, a split EP with San Francisco buddies the Loudmouths from 2000 on 702 Records, featuring two songs by each band. That's it for now, let's see if I'll take a look again today. Weather is sunny, beer is cold, mood is brilliant and Bundesliga is tomorrow, chances are good & remember: "In the end everything will be fine. If it doesn't turn out well, it's not the end yet." Cheers!

TOY DOLLS - Fat Bob's Feet 1991

I think it's time for a record that makes clear: Don't take life too serious! Go through with humor and considering the stupid and uninspired crisis in Europe, this stuff is an excellent contribution to this. Bob's stinky feet is the eighth album by the Toy Dolls from Sunderland on Rebel Records and it's one of the more popular slabs by them and included such favourites Bitten By A Bed Bug, The Sphinx Stinks or Kids In Tyne & Wear (a beautiful cover of the Kim Wilde classic), one most often covered songs by many Punk combos. This album is a rare late Toy Dolls album that doesn't contain any classic/symphony instrumental adaptation. Fourteen fresh decent songs have Olga & Co. created here who just are fun and show how essnetial music can be and I must admit, the first full length I've heard by them. I always thought they were too funny for me, but in times like these is this album a welcome alternative.

RAZZIA - Spuren 1991

With their fourth album Razzia came back to their roots and leave the keyboard at home and wrote thirteen fantastic goodies shortly after the reunification of Germany, who express their feelings in entangled lyrics but musically tie in with the first album (Sören also left the band during the production of the album, but continued to contribute to the creation of lyrics and bass tracks. His successor on bass was Christian Both). It's a refreshing one that's more relevant than ever and amazing that singer Rajas has no songwriting credits, all written by the musicians which I think is extraordinary. Short info: Razzia was founded in Hamburg 1979 by brothers Andreas (guitar) and Peter Siegler (drums) and Rajas (vocals). The first line-up was completed by Sören (bass) and Frank (guitar). Unlike Slime, however, Razzia were not a purely politically motivated Punk combo and in the lyrcs, abuses of all kinds were formulated in a very rough and cynical way and implemented very aggressively in the early years. Spuren is a fantastic record with catchy songs and an excellent example how an versatile band come back mercilessly and kick your ass ruthlessly. Absolutely suitable and a solid Razzia record!!!

BAD LADIES & THE WILD LOVERS - s/t EP 1986

This band is a short side-project of the Mimmi's from Bremen and this is their record at WeserLabel with three sexy pieces. Info: On 18. October 1986, the Mimmi's and ZK came together again for a concert on the occasion of the "Wir Lassen Uns Das Singen Nicht Verbieten (We Won't Let Us Be Forbidden To Sing)" solidarity festival in Berlin's Tempodrom. The proceeds of the concert, at which dozens of artists performed, including Die Toten Hosen and Die Ärzte, served to cover the legal costs for the Heino parodist Norbert Hähnel. With Lars on drums, Mimmi's remnants Fabsi (vocals), Elli (guitars) and Sylke (bass) formed Bad Ladies & The Wild Lovers in October 1986, with whom they produced the only record later that year, the first 100 came in clear vinylIn early 1987, the Mimmi's reunited and the Bad Lovers were buried. This is their humble little legacy, undiscovered and unloved. Certainly interesting for some, the Bremen Under Cover compilation, on which they were allowed to take part briefly.

FORD'S FUZZ INFERNO - Flog Yourself With Fuzz EP 2022

Bridging the gap between distorted garage-punk and early '80s hardcore, the super explosive second EP by this fuzzed-uit Dutch guitar-and-drums duo is certainly one of the most impressive releases of 2022. "Hans & Patrick are back with hard hitting, hi-energy Punkrock, recorded specially for your hungry ears! This time around all the songs are about super enjoyable things, like the apocalypse, mental health issues and Mr. Hans’ and Mr. Patrick’s favourite pastime, demolishing other people’s property. Have you ever done that? It’s great fun. You should really give it a try! But before you start smashing windows and kicking dents into cars, play these four songs as loud as possible. They will put you in the exact right mood!" And that's right folks; on this record they are more melodic, more playful and more mid-tempo, but still catchy and with the typical fuzz sound. I really like it and I can highly recommend this band to you, Ford's Fuzz Inferno is playing PunkRock and doesn't just talk about it and deniers will be executedTheir third strike will follow in April and a compilation CD with all Fuzzies is also being planned, so keep your eyes, ears and brains wide open. Two reviews: "They have kept the quality, with another collection of fast, catchy, melodic hardcore songs. Just need two things from the guys now, A full length album and some live shows in the UK!" (Issue Punkzine #117)

"A release with short high energy tracks in the Ford’s Fuzz Inferno punk tradition: unpolished DIY noisy punk rock’n’roll. It comes with a good sound quality and again with a simple white and black medieval artwork. Too bad it's over before you know it." (Out Of Step - Fanzine/Blog February 2022)

Your weekend's nice & with this EP it will be even more sweeter, ask your partner!

GODHEAD - New Lottery EP 2021

Topic re-releases, and as I was able to find out at short notice, there are different views on this. Well, I welcome records like this and I'm also willing to buy those from interesting bands that I like and which the original is unaffordable at overpriced prices. That applies to the following record by Godhead, whose only awesome 7Inch I love and discovered this rare piece from No Plan Records at discogs. They revived this little masterpiece last year in an edition of 350 copies, with a 12-page booklet and a bonus song. Godhead was founded in spring 1980 by Paul (vocals), Bill (guitars), Steve (bass), John (drums) and they existed for about fifteen months and it was a while before this formation hit the studio and released their famous three track EP in 1981 on Bemisbrain Records. "Hardcore was really peaking during Godhead's brief existance, but we did not want to play just hard, fast songs with little-to-no-melody. Also, we were not going to get our heads shaved or otherwise be slaves to punk fashion" says Paul, and it is precisely this attitude that makes the four likeable and underlines their independence. New Lottery is a damn cool record and I think, they would have deserved an album. Rare guest appearances on compilations but these are highly recommended. TOP!!

BRANES - Young Collection EP 1995

Another EP from the 333 x Up & Down series, this time by a five-piece from Düsseldorf called The Branes; a short-lived band which consisted of Marteen (vocals), Suse & Markee (guitars), Floh (bass), Joshy (drums) and this is all they ever released. Six catchy '77 style smasher which once again underlines the label's fondness for this type of music and therefore makes it so appealing to me. I like to surprise myself! I can't remember when & where I bought this record, but one thing's for sure, since it's part of this rare series, I didn't hesitate long, without knowing the band in any way, but that's what's interesting: either top or flop and Young Collection belongs definitely to the top section. Enough for today, now it's football time and let's see what's going on in Berlin today ⚽ Cheers!

THE SECT - This Side Of Summer EP 1992

Pretty three piece EP from the 333 x Up & Down series which was created in the Nineties by the legendary Incognito Records label and each release is limited to 333 copies. And Barny, the founder, was guest at Nolti's New Rose on Nikolaus last year and chatted about the early days, his publications, experiences, re-releases, mp3's and more nice anecdotes in a relaxed atmosphere and it's really fun to listen to both. Very interesting for me because I had the pleasure of getting to know him in the Hamburger Marquee when Broken Toys was on tour with the Schwarzen Schafe and I was doing civil service in Lüneburg at the time. I was even able to visit the tour a second time, in Oberursel. It was all in the early nineties and I also bought a few singles from him. - The Sect was a melodic Punk combo with an edge done the old way from the West Midlands and consisted of Kevin (vocals), Terry & kevin (guitars), Kevin P. (bass), John (drums) and were active from 1986 - 1992 and released two albums (listen) and a couple of 7Inches and they playing catchy powerful solid melodic songs in the vein of GNW or HDQ and didn't get unfortunately a lot of attention and stayed more in the underground and only a must for die-hard fans. Do yourself a favour and choose this one and enjoy their awesome sound.

EXTRABREIT - Welch Ein Land! - Was Für Männer: 1981

Well-known and also popular overseas are Hagen's Extrabreit and they returned 1981 to the studio to record their sophomore effort. At that time the band consisted of Kai (vocals), Stefan & Ulrich (guitars), Wolfgang (bass), Rolf (drums)In the early 1980s, 3D technology was slowly gaining momentum, resulting in films, posters and even some TV commercials. To experience the effect, paper glasses with red and green plastic lenses were distributed everywhere. An interesting gag for the time. Extrabreit had the idea of using the new technology for Welch Ein Land!... and designed a stereoscopic three-dimensional photo for the cover and as far as I know it's the only one of its kind, and the first edition came with anaglyph glasses and this is innovation I miss these days. Well, a nice review: "WEL-WFM is a more angry, politically quarrelsome album and to everyone's big surprise, first single "Polizisten" immediately turned into the band's first hit, only gaining strength when the Bavarian government banned the song for openly insulting the country's police force. Around the same time, German music journalists had discerned a new trend and dubbed it NDW. Bands like Ideal, Trio, and Spliff demonstrated a new national self-esteem, and Extrabreit, with their raucous, untamed attitude, fit right in. Over a year after its release, Extrabreit's debut album followed its successor into the charts and the single "Hurra, Hurra, die Schule Brennt" quickly climbed into the Top Ten. By 1982 both of the band's albums had established themselves in Germany's Top Five album chart and against all odds Extrabreit had turned into Germany's most successful band of the year." - Enough bla bla, listen and enjoy the weekend!
