I really can't say that the following five piece from Wuppertal, Drakey & Brot (vocals), Rosi (guitars), Paul (bass), Martin (drums), wrote melodic songs.. no!, Alptraum GmbH are the inventors of loud, disturbing & gross disharmony and their only vinyl on Intelnet Records proves this clearly in four tastings. More or less talented on the instruments, the sounds scratch from the confused explosions of emotions and mix into a chaos tug, which even makes me feel to press the stop button. I wouldn't call this Hardcore, but it's kind of charming and besides the EP two tapes have been released. If you are pissed off with your job, your friends, the world or yourself, this is definitely the right soundtrack. Also represented on numerous compis, Cheers!

YTTERBIUM 70 - Futur Soldat Suisse EP 1983
Mega rare stuff from Lausanne and the story about this band goes like this: "a certain "CAM" (nickname) formed Ytterbium 70 in the 70's. In 1983, the band released this provocative and subversive EP "Futur Soldat Suisse" on Super Nova, openly promoting antimilitarism. All the songs were composed in 1979 by CAM. Pressed in France, the records got blocked for some time at Thônex's customs post because a swiss customs officer didn't want to take responsibility for letting subversive stuff into the country! It led to the temporary seizure of 2000 copies and created some buzz in the papers because cases of censorship are rather seldom in Switzerland. It finally went very smoothly as the authorities decided there weren't any reason to destroy the whole stock, fortunately for us! The single began to sell from April 1st, 1983. Nevertheless, the single was unexpectedly removed from sale only ten days after! Was the Confederation in the know? We'll probably never find out. Anyway, it explains why the record is now mega rare and can reach $300 a copy!" (source: williamtellsguitar) - Three superb killers!

SURF PUNKS - Shark Attack! 7'' 1982
Fourth 7Inch on Day-Glo Records by this crazy combo. The Surf Punks are a hilariously obnoxious and irreverent pop-punk band from Malibu, California. As both their name and such amusingly broad tongue-in-cheek songs as "No Fat Chicks," "Teenage Girls," and "Shark Attack!" suggest, the group gleefully poke fun at West Coast Southern California beach/surf culture with a winning blend of unapologetically brash rude'n'crude humor, fierce, yet still catchy pop punk musical arrangements, and a blithely immature attitude. The Surf Punks were formed by singer/drummer Dennis Dragon and singer/guitarist/keyboardist Drew Steele in 1976 (Dennis is the son of noted symphony conductor Carmen Dragon and the brother of Daryl Dragon of the popular 70's pop duo the Captain and Tannille). The other original band members are: Tony Creed (lead guitar/blues harp), John Hunt (bass), and John Heussenstamm (lead guitar). The Surf Punks released their debut single "My Beach/My Wave" in Australia on the Shelter Records label. Their 1979 self-tilted debut album became an instant cult classic. The Surf Punks released four additional albums: My Beach (1980), Locals Only (1982), Oh No! Not Them Again! (1988), and Party Bomb in 1988. The group sold out their first show at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. The Surf Punks were renowned for their extremely wild and uninhibited live shows during their early 80's heyday. The band was initially supposed to appear in the 1987 comedy feature "Back To The Beach," but alas this never came to be, but they appeared as themselves in the documentaries "Skateboard Madness" and "Urgh! A Music War." (Bio by woodyanders)

LES VERMINES - Bad Childhood 1983
Now to a combo that already appeared sporadically in wdthtc on some compilations: Les Vermines from Rouen, active around 1980-1989. Line-up: White Spirit (vocals), Torchon (guitar), Ted (bass), Daniel (drums) and this is their amazing debut on Rive Gauche Records. Bad Childhood is peppered with eleven superb candy canes. Info: To history and purists, punk has only lasted for a season. In 1977, the death knell had already sounded. This did not prevent the Vermines from continuing the adventure in the 80s with two albums in their own juice worthy of the best English productions of the good era. Adopting the language of the Queen of England, the group doesn't seem to care about this detail of the story and rushes headlong into a punk à la Sex Pistols and Ramones from which they also cover the title Blitzkrieg Bop and Warhead by the UK Subs on this album. The Rouen scene can be proud of these boys and you can convince yourself by the excellent songwriting and the amazingly good quality of these four. Recorded & mixed in twenty-two hours during summer 1983. They left two albums, a 7Inch and a tape for posterity, plus some compilation appearances. Brilliant debut in every way!

MODERNES PICKLES - s/t EP 1981
One more rare 7Inch, today from the Moderne Pickles, one of the first alternative outfits out of Quebec City and this little bastard was made in 1981 and released via Neanderthal Records in an edition of 850 copies. Needless to say, this is their only vinyl appearance. The band was founded by Martin (vocals), Michel (guitars), Bertrand (bass), Robert (drums) at the end of the late Seventies and somehow they didn't make it for a record, probably because of their extraordinary style. We have three songs here, the first two shine with a decent New Wave touch and the third is not worth mentioning, and apart from that, it is not very clear to me why some crazy people charge 30-40 Euros for this record. Well, that's why I'm here to stop you... anyway the second half of the Bundesliga for the SGE starts in two hours, today versus fucking BVB, and I just want three points. ⚽⚽⚽
THE SPORTS - Who Listens To The Radio 7'' 1979
Not really Punk stuff but the following combo has brought a lot to vinyl in its five-year life, and this very successfully. The Sports were from Melbourne and performed, recorded between 1976 and 1981. Mainstay members were Stephen on lead vocals and Robert (bass), with long-term members such as Paul (drums) and Andrew (lead guitar) and Martin (guitar). Their style was similar to both 1970s British pub rock bands and British new wave. The original single was released on Mushroom in October 1978 and shortly thereafter reworked and re-recorded and as new lead 7Inch from the band's second album, Don't Throw Stones (1979), again released with another flip. Two simple but well crafted pop songs.

V/A - Bloodstains Across The World #6 2019
Oh Yeah, the last across the world Bloodstains to date and how we can move into the mood for the weekend more splendidly?... right, drinking with good friends, telling stories and hang out. There are supposed to be 100 copies and like the previous ones, #6 was created by the same detective. All songs are at least decent and some have already appeared on other compilations. What bothers me a little is the poor loveless artwork, very cheap card sleeve and no info about the bands except year of release and their country of origin... but enough grumbling. I have to hurry to catch the train and two beautiful days lie ahead with lots of Backgammon, beer, music and Happi Happi, Cheers!

ANGRY SAMOANS - The Unboxed Set 1995
"Well, let's seeee.." important band, bombastic music and the Unboxed Set is precisely what the title states; a fuckin' hot compilation that includes all four Angry albums prior to their break-up 1991, a total of forty-three divine incomparable unforgettable nuggets (you see, I'm just throwing around hymns of praise). The music of the Angry Samoans contains all the elements what a dirty, wild, ugly and hard Punk band should have: juvenile humor, raging barre chords, snotty vocals and most importantly, a strong sense of justice. In addition, they also had great songwriting and an unusually tight rhythm section that placed them several notches above the others. From vocalist 'Metal' Mike Saunders' primordial screams to the hilarious false-folk of STP Not LSD. Release also includes truly inspired liner notes from guitarist Gregg Turner, which perfectly capture the band's recklessness, nihilism and uncompromising punk attitude. Angry Samoans were formed in the LA area by "Metal" Mike Saunders (vocals/guitars), P.J. & Gregg (guitars), Todd (bass), Bill (drums) back in 1978. Saunders was already a veteran musician by this point, unlike most of very young punk and hardcore upstarts of that era. The sound was a mix of garage and hardcore punk. In 1995 Triple X did a great service by compiling all of those releases on a compact disc. The title was a jab at the bloated, multiple CD box sets that were all the rage at the time. While vinyl snobs would still want to hunt down the individual records, The Unboxed Set was/is a gift for most fans. This compilation is a classic in its own right and a fuckin' must have!!

RADIOHEAD - Pop Is Dead 12'' 1993
We stay in the same year but come to a versatile and one of my faves whose first albums presented solid rock and created new interesting sounds with Kid A, which I also tolerate and listen to, but I prefer to stick to the earlier works, because I'm more at home here, doch der Reihe nach. Several months after their fantastic debut smasher Pablo Honey, Radiohead [formed 1985 in Abingdon, Oxfordshire and consists of Thom (vocals/guitar/piano), brothers Jonny (lead guitar/ keyboards) & Colin (bass), Ed (guitar) and Philip (drums). Radiohead's experimental approach is credited with advancing the sound of alternative rock], released this decent driven chromatic riff guitar non-album track in form of a 12Inch via Parlophone. A solid, complex production of four goodies, three of them live, already illustrate the potential of the five. Sure, some say that it doesn't belong to the best of them and presumably they're right, if you look at the further development & other albums, but I like the songs and like to play the Oxford-Sound. Rare & Good One!

... BUT ALIVE - Für Uns Nicht 1993
Welcome 2022 and the first post belongs to a band that I appreciate very much and whose music is one of the best of the nineties and thus gave an important part of the lame movement of that time new input. Krawehl, Krawehl was their first demo from 1991 (connoisseurs know immediately who gave this words), and it soon attracted the interest of the Hamburg label Weird System, which finally signed the band. - The quartet But Alive was one of the most influential German punk bands until 1999 and were, alongside Wizo, Boxhamsters and Dackelblut, at the forefront of German punk movement for four records and seven years. Actually started as a small fun band, the political claim developed more and more as a permanent trademark of the group. Spurred on by German formations such as EA80 and, above all, Slime, But Alive quickly became one of the biggest mouthpieces of the intellectual punk scene. Because of their left-radical and highly political lyrics, ...But Alive should not be equated with the blunt slogans of the "Mob & Gesocks" punks. Their message is hidden in demanding lyrics, which often wrong interpreted (also from punks itself). After a few bass players, there is finally the line-up around Marcus (vocals/guitars), Hagen (guitars), Torben (bass), Frank (drums). They made four very good albums, of which more will appear soon in this theatre. Für Uns Nicht is a great debut, arranged sharply and fluently and with lyrics that get to the point, they spoke out what is wrong in this world and that fourteen times. The first 500 copies in blue vinyl, my copy. Enough useless words, nobody cares anyway, enjoy the music and look forward to an interesting new music year.
