ANGRY SAMOANS - The Unboxed Set 1995

"Well, let's seeee.." important band, bombastic music and the Unboxed Set is precisely what the title states; a fuckin' hot compilation that includes all four Angry albums prior to their break-up 1991, a total of forty-three divine incomparable unforgettable nuggets (you see, I'm just throwing around hymns of praise). The music of the Angry Samoans contains all the elements what a dirty, wild, ugly and hard Punk band should have: juvenile humor, raging barre chords, snotty vocals and most importantly, a strong sense of justice. In addition, they also had great songwriting and an unusually tight rhythm section that placed them several notches above the others. From vocalist 'Metal' Mike Saunders' primordial screams to the hilarious false-folk of STP Not LSD. Release also includes truly inspired liner notes from guitarist Gregg Turner, which perfectly capture the band's recklessness, nihilism and uncompromising punk attitude. Angry Samoans were formed in the LA area by "Metal" Mike Saunders (vocals/guitars), P.J. & Gregg (guitars), Todd (bass), Bill (drums) back in 1978. Saunders was already a veteran musician by this point, unlike most of very young punk and hardcore upstarts of that era. The sound was a mix of garage and hardcore punk. In 1995 Triple X did a great service by compiling all of those releases on a compact disc. The title was a jab at the bloated, multiple CD box sets that were all the rage at the time. While vinyl snobs would still want to hunt down the individual records, The Unboxed Set was/is a gift for most fans. This compilation is a classic in its own right and a fuckin' must have!!
