SPRAYS - Te Vere A Las Diez 7'' 1982

Great PowerPop mod single by the Sprays on Floy Y Nata Records with two excellent tunes. The band were Guilermo (vocals/guitar), Tony (bass) and Rodri (drums). It was recorded at the Moraleda Studios in Barcelona on October 28 and November 4 and 8 of that same year. The three play very simple catchy PowerPop with energetic rhythms heavily influenced by British bands and their music alternated with other styles such as ska and old Jamaican sound. In their live shows they captivated the audience with their exhilarating performance and a big festive party ensued with only positive vibes infecting the young people in every imaginable way. They didn't need anything else: a guitar, a bass and a drum kit to keep the audience's feet moving. Very smart, very delicious!

U.K.SUBS - Endangered Species 7'' 2018

Belfast based record label Punkerama released this UK Subs slab in a limited edition of 500 copies, spread over three different colours. Endangered Species is the title of the fourth Subs album which was released 1982 and to be honest, I don't know why this 7Inch came out, certainly interesting for collectors, but otherwise the reason remains unclear. But can you blame the boys for it? I don't think so. They have been in the music circus constantly since 1976, with ups and downs, and you can put on a record at anytime and the sound is definitely a worthy end of another virus year. Enjoy two catchy powerful moments!

CASSETTE - F.FWD EP 1979

Next obscure slab was recorded by a four piece called Cassette and they were Robbi (vocals), Bog (guitars), Aid (bass), Rich (drums) and F.FWD (Fast Forward) is their only release on 1 Track Records. Three nice tracks that have nothing in common with the typical hard British Punkrock of the Eighties, I would tend towards postpunk or new wave. The opener is a solid mid-tempo number with a creaky guitar and nice tempo changes. The flip starts with a shiny stomper that is played just as brilliantly, followed by a worthy conclusion with occasional rest phases. Very interesting record from a band that unfortunately didn't make an appearance in any other way but this goodie is perfect. Guest on the compilation Nobody Wants Us Vol.7.

FEBER - s/t EP 1981

Quite late already, and tomorrow morning I'll sure look like a tired cauliflower.... fuck it! Today's vibes come from Feber, a short-lived five piece and I guess, the boys were from Oslo. For sure is, they consisted of Gunnar (vocals), Hugo (guitars), Egon (bass), Kjell (keys), Per (drums). Only release is this 7Inch on Tempererte Plater and features four simple stomper, not really something special and I know better stuff/bands from this country, but somehow, the slab was lying around and looking at me pleadingly. Not much is known about Feber and I don't want to search for. They were definitely honored on some relevant Compilations which are a must for every KBD friend. And now I cuddle with my Teddy, good night!

THE 222's - I Love Susan 7'' 1978

Glam Punk PowerPop noises from Montreal by Louie (vocals/keys), Chris (vocals), Pierre (guitars), Hoe (bass), Angel (drums), these five were/are 222. This is their first 7Inch on Rebel Records with two cuts [b.t.w., my winner is the flip].

Info from CanuckistanMusic: The 222's formed in summer 1977 and they had one foot in Punk and the other firmly rooted in the Glamrock of the New York Dolls. This is what probably opened the door for the band in a city still awash in disco and prog rock. Singer Chris Barry, who joined the band in 1978 while still a high school student, recalls in Perfect Youth (The Birth of Canadian Punk), The 222s were on TV a fair bit, so I sort of became a minor celebrity in my high school. Along with the Normals and the Chromosomes, the 222s helped kick start a scene centered around places like 364 rue St. Paul, Station 10 and the Hotel Nelson. By the time the guys walked into the long forgotten Le Petit Studio du Nord in September 1978 to record this single, the first punk record to be released in the province of Quebec, the band were as tight as the skinny leather pants they often wore. Barry: "We wanted the show to run like the Ramones, not a lot of time between songs. We wanted to be as slick as we could be (which) just meant doing our best and being in tune and trying to not drop songs in the middle of them."

How the effervescent 'I Love Suzan' escaped the major labels is anyone's guess. With nods to doo wop, the Beach Boys and of course their heroes the Ramones, it's a perfect power pop charmer that should have been the soundtrack to the summer of '79 rather than an obscure collector seven-inch. What's more, the tougher sounding 'The First Studio Bomb' over on the flip takes the lads more firmly into punk territory, making this a potent little double-sider well worth the digging. Ah, but the 222s story was only just beginning. With numerous TV appearances in Montreal, and packed shows in Toronto and at Max's Kansas City in New York, they seemed ready for the big time. But by 1981, the popular band still had not released a follow-up, and well, Montreal being Montreal, they somehow managed to hook up with some of that city's less savoury types, who had plans of their own for the boys. RANOLA - s/t LP 1984

Very rare record by a band whose slab I bought on a record fair many, many years ago and I looked for it a long fucking time and I still remember that my money wasn't enough and I was sweating to manage more D-Marks because it has been sold in the meantime but the seller has reserved it for me, hard to believe but true... and I went away with a treasure in my hands. Yeah, a wonderful day was that (I think, every music nerd can understand that very well). - Ranola were formed by two thirds from the remains of the Body Snatchers and consisted of Jürgen (vocals), Michael & Micka (guitars), Martin (bass), Andreas (drums), they knew each other from school in Mönchengladbach, they hung around in nearby Düsseldorf in the Ratinger Hof and recorded the first and only album in November 1983, which was released 1984 on After Aids Records in an edition of 1000 copies, when the band had already split up. Musically, there are fourteen delicacies that skillfully pack timeless themes into astonishing worlds of letters and were excellently set to music by the five. Highlight is certainly the terrific 'Blumen', which pulls out all the stops and the ability and creativity of the band flashes in an impressive way. I can't praise this album enough, a milestone of German punkrock. Re-issued 2017 on Mad Butcher Records with liner notes and partly in limited blue & green vinyl, for everyone who stayed at home. In their short life span they made it on one compilation, the also very rare Väterchen Frost slab from 1986 on Mekka. A Must Listen!

Well, as you can see, my old schoolmate Teddy is more than happy with his new girlfriend and he asked me to put some of his favorite songs together and share them with you. Of course, I would like to comply his request, even if I hardly find time and my computer soon crackes off, I have taken the trouble to create the following compilation from the extensive repertoire of his hard drive and now finally present it as the ninth release on WDM Records. He chose a healthy mix of old and new classics and I am very satisfied with his selection. I'm responsible for the artwork, which I think is excellent, and all this together makes this little musical composition another highlight on this damn uninteresting Blog. Wherever you are now, enjoy the days off, make the most of it and always remember, You're Not Alone!

DIRECT ACTION - Damn-Age 1988

Let's listen to a compilation from the German label Bitzcore by a four-piece from Toronto called Direct Action, presumably founded in the early Eighties and consisted of the following members: Tim (vocals), Buzz & Xig (guitars), Dave (bass), Mike (drums), some if not all of these guys were originally from St. Catherines and played in a band called the Unknowns. Fact #1: the first demo tape was released in 1984 and their only record Trapped In A World a year later. This little dittie features the album plus rare demo recordings from 1983. Fact #2: they present us angry fast hardcore noises that always stays below the two minute mark, dynamic and voluminous, Tim has the perfect voice for it and the rest of them step hard on the gaspedal, including premature ejaculations. Fact #3: the band broke up 1988. Fact #4: Classic Canadian Hardcore Stuff, great impression!

DER BÖSE BUB EUGEN - Regen Im Park 1986

Der Böse Bub Eugen is a three piece, formed 1983 in Schaffhausen by Rämi (vocals/guitars), Lenz (bass), Fisch (drums) and Regen Im Park is their first album on Organik Records and their style is a nice mix between punk & new wave (latter is more likely to apply to this debut). Their music is soaked with memories of being young and immature and all that, the perfect soundtrack for these times: the sound is catchy guitar pop, very swiss, if you want, in it being lüpfig, meaning it swings and rolls and is definitly upbeat, not afraid to also use a polka rhythm and a ländler-bassline. Lyrically they were also a lot of fun: not exactly silly, but cultivating a cheeky country boy attitude, coming from a place where the girls wear they hair in braids, the most exciting thing that happens is the yearly fun fair and the first erotic experiences are made in the hay. Which does not mean that one can not wonder about the life of an undertaker or who shot Phil Marlowe or how it would be as a sailor sailing the big ocean. All this was served with a lot of cleverness and real talent so it never became cheesy. (review by sunbathinglizard) - Check another audio with the Zehn Jahre 7Inch from the penultimate record, which has a bit more steam. Finally, their last came out in 1990 and they broke up a short time later.

POISEN IDEA - Kings Of Punk 1986

If you don't have a Christmas present for your loved ones yet, I suggest the following slab, and the recipients will bless you, because we're not talking about a 08/15 record, NO!, it's the furious debut album by Poisen Idea, a four piece from Portland formed 1980, and this masterpiece were recorded by Jerry A (vocals), Tom (guitars), Tense (bass), Dean (drums) and came via Pusmort among the chosen ones. You you can find a little detailed info about the band at the Offical Bootleg post a few years earlier. Kings Of Punk has eleven cool goodies which are all brilliant because the variety is outstanding, some are very rhythmic, some straight out thrashy hardcore and every now and then you get the rock-out guitar indulgence. Dynamic and with lots of power, this album wipes the fog out of your eyes and you can finally poop sensibly again, guaranteed. And now I go to buy some beer, Cheers!
