BOHEMIA - Automatic Mind 10'' 1980

Five piece Bohemia, (Carla (vocals/organ), Fast Frank (guitar/sax), Lee (lead guitar), Zirbel (bass) & Chevron Esq. (drums), from Chicago with their debut record on VU Records and this 10Inch is limited to 3000 copies with three goodies. They released a few records and playing all over the city during the late 70s and early 80s. Otherwise there isn't much find info about the band and they weren't represented on a few compilations as well. With five minutes is the title song a bit too long for my taste and rolls monotonously, followed by a short, dirty cream topping and a nugget at the end. Overall not a bad record.

- Great Thx to Fredrik -

TURBOSTAAT - Nachtbrot 2019

Gude Morsche und welcome to today's post.

Yesterday Turbostaat were guest in Mainz and it was another great evening. The five from the far north have been traveling for 20 years and provide a good atmosphere with their sound and for me they are one of the best bands in our country & Alive always a blast. Nachtbrot was released as a double LP on 18Null9 and was recorded on May 11th & 12th, 2018 @ Conne Island in Leipzig to celebrate an unforgettable weekend. Twenty-one songs cross their six albums to date, a healthy mix. The concert yesterday in the KUZ was also superb and the hall was full and even the beer tasted good again. The boys are still on tour until mid-April, afterwards a few festivals and I can only recommend you to appear there. Which cities are still flooded can be found here. Enough words, time for music and until the next gig, Ahoi!

SNAGG - Tidningsurklipp EP 1981

Recorded in CWC Studio/Norrköping, this is the only record from the four piece combo Snagg (Ibban (vocals/guitar), Simon (bass/guitar), Magnus (bass), Anders (drums). Three different interesting tunes on board. First song is a nice pretty pop tune with lots of "babababaaaaaaaa eyyyyy" with small ska touch. The second is a short catchy number in the typical KBD style, pretty '77 sound. The last is a damn four minute wanker, a bit long for my taste but nice played with saxophone and tralala, not tiring at all. Not really a punk record but that's another story.

TROUBLEMAKERS - 7'' Collection 1987-1998

This file includes three 7inches: the Göteborg EP ('87), the one-sided single Hjältarna Skålar I Blod ('89) and the Mammas Flickor EP ('98). You'll get good melodys, pace and classic Swedish punk rock'n'roll in the typical Gothenburg style, either way, it's exciting and powerful. Troublemakers were originally formed in Gothenburg in 1981 with members from Perverts (they often play "Ronka" live), Göteborg Sound, Attentat, Anti Cimax & TT Gardrob 100. After a while the band split up in 1991, but reformed in 1995. The band has been described as "kukrock" and compared with a runaway express train. While musical trends have come and vanished, Troublemakers have stuck with their straightforward rock'n'roll punk and Swedish lyrics. With roots in the early Swedish punk era, they have survived themselves and numerous of Swedish government ministers. Troublemaker’s trademark has always been integrity, joy and energy. In 2010, they were winners in the category of best Swedish Punk/Hardcore band on the Manifest Awards in Stockholm for their album "Made In Sweden". Seven full length albums, numerous singles and participation on various compilations have made Troublemakers to one of Sweden's most important punk bands. They've conquered five capital cities and have done more than 350 gigs around Sweden and in six European countries. They're still active and if they come on tour again I will not miss.

FEINBEIN - Schräge Vögel 1985

Now a band from my local area from Hanau called Feinbein, they were founded in the mid 80s and consisted of seven members. Schräge Vögel is the third and final album and it's not a punk record. My first encounter with them was around 1983 in a community center in my former home. At that time there was little going on, a dead rand district you know, and in this location there played occasionally bands from the Rhein-Main area, for example Flatsch!, the Crackers or Hob Goblin. A small basementwith a capacity of about fifty-sixty people and Feinbein stood close on this small stage and celebrated their crazy Psycho Show, the name of the second album that was released in 1983, and you can imagine what a crush it was. Difficult to remember today but I think, it was great because all my buddies were there and it was a big highlight on the edge of town. Well, ten songs can be heard with comfortable, critical lyrics, sometimes packed in a funny way, with a simple pop sound. Why not? rare piece of Hessian subculture.

TERVEET KÄDET - Black God 1984

Want wild fast short loud songs? Now the opportunity has come: Terveet Kädet (Healthy Hands) were Finnish hardcore punx, the first in Finland and the band was founded in Tornio, January 1980 by Läjä (vocals), Tiimo (guitars), Piäsky (bass) and Peedro (drums). They have had a major influence on bands from all over the world, especially in Brazil (which some have claimed was because of a member from the leading band Olho Seco and his enthusiasm and connections to that country's scene). Max Cavalera of Sepultura and Soulfly has mentioned Terveet Kädet as one of his all-time favourite bands. The band's line-up changed several times, and the singer Veli-Matti "Läjä" Äijälä was the only permanent member. The four are guests on numerous compilations. Black God was released via Rock-O-Rama records with a studio and live side, twenty-one killers in just under seventeen minutes. Any questions?

V/A - Chiswick Aquaria 1978

Magnificent pub/punk compilation on this rare Italian issue with bands made at least one 7inch on Chiswick Records, the sublabel and forerunner of Ace Records, started in 1975 by Ted Carroll and Roger Armstrong, with its origins in a second hand 45 records market stall in London. They were later joined by record fanatic Trevor Churchill. Towards the end of the 70s, they were releasing work by a series of "Pub Rock" bands. It is now the punk, power pop and rock label in the Ace Records stable. Nine bands with fourteen songs from their early young & unspent days, some made it into big business, others disappeared into nowhere and some swam unfortunately away to the right scum. Apart from that, this is an excellent compilation, this is the expensive promo release, and still worth buying. 1980 came out a Spanish release called Chiswick Aquaria Collection with more label bands.

1.Psychotic Reaction - RADIATORS FROM SPACE
2.Saints & Sinners - JOHNNY & THE SELF ABUSERS
3.When The Night Comes - LITTLE BOB STORY
4.No Russians In Russia - RADIO STARS
5.Better Off Crazy - SKREWDRIVER
6.No One - JOHNNY MOPED
7.Taking It Easy - THE COUNT BISHOPS
8.Dirty Pictures - RADIO STARS
9.Gorilla Got Me - THE GORILLAS
10.Motörhead - MOTÖRHEAD
11.Television Screen - RADIATORS FROM SPACE
12.Route 66 - THE COUNT BISHOPS
13.You're So Dumb - SKREWDRIVER
14.Dead Vandals - JOHNNY & THE SELF ABUSERS

DER EISERNE VORHANG - Franzi 7'' 1982

Here's a little 7inch from Austria with two "nervous" wave goodies. Released as a appetizer from their only album which came out on Ariola. Der Eiserne Vorhang was such an art "All Star Group" around the O. Tannenbaum operator (clothing shop in Vienna's Jewish quarter) Ronald Fleischmann (he was such an art Malcolm McLaren of Vienna and co-founder of 'Panza Platte'). The a-side has with Franzi a nice cover-version of XTC’s 'Making Plans For Nigel' and is a superb one. The b-side is the title track of their album and has good critical lyrics, sung in the melancholy Austrian dialect how I like it. Real cheerful natures this people. Musically, the song's a monotonic electric driving one, ideal for excessive four-person activity in bed with lots of in/out...ahhh...oooooh.. and so on... Let's stay factual again, check them out worth a listen in any case. - They're also members of Heimat Bist Du Großer Söhne compilation + the essential De Guade Oide Zeit 3LP compilation.

ÖSTRO 430 - Durch Dick & Dünn 1981

Östro 430 were the first all female Punkband & founded December 1979 in Düsseldorf by Martina (vocals/sax), Bettina (keyboards), Marita (drums) and Monika (bass). Just three weeks before the first appearance, Monika got out and was replaced by Olivia. On May 3, 1980, their first appearance took place in the Okie Dokie in Neuss @ a festival organized by the punk fanzine "Schmier". They were noticed by Fehlfarben, which they hired as opener for their Germany tour. In 1980 three songs (Sexueller Notstand, Triebtäter & Too Cool) were released on the Schallmauer compilation and one year later the first mini 12'' Durch Dick & Dünn followed with eight songs. A few months after the slab was out, Marita and Olivia left, Gisela & Birgit came in. In 1983 the full length Weiber Wie Wir was released and at the end of 1983 came Ralf as guitarist and completed the line-up but no further releases came after the collapse of Schallmauer-Records. Östro 430 gave their farewell concert @ the Garath Freizeitstätte in Düsseldorf on May 25, 1984 and disbanded. On 28 May 1999 they play one reunion gig @ the Tor 3.

Martina sang on records from Family 5, Prollhead and die Ärzte in the early 1990s. Bettina became a gynecologist, Olivia joined Fehlfarben at the beginning of 1982 and took part in background vocals and bass on some pieces. After the big three-month tour through Germany/Austria/Holland, shortly before the Rockpalast performance, she left the band and moved to Italy. Since 1989 she lives again in Düsseldorf.

Style: Despite the unusual instrumentation (no guitar, electric piano instead of synthesizer), the music of the four students was often counted as punk, mainly because of its clear and angry lyrics. The titles Sexueller Notstand & Triebtäter are examples of the main themes of sex, outdated views about women and philistine. The band characterized their style as “simple but rough”.
