MORT SUBITE & SPOILERS - Split EP 1980

The early Limburg scene was pretty lively, although the number of bands was limited. From Eijgelshoven came The Spoilers, founded in the summer of 1978. After a performance in a local audience Toek joins the band from Heerlen. From shows in Heerlen given environment and the band reaps fast a small but fanatical fan base from places like Brunssum, Kerkrade and Maastricht. In 1979, a punk festival which both Limburgs acts Mort Subite, The Spoilers plus The Neon Kids, Fast Eddie & The Heart Attacks was very successful and the Ear Music Magazine reports about this gig with a picture of The Spoilers printed and Hubert van Hoof wrote a positive review. Toek left the band in late 1979, he moved to Amsterdam. At the end of their existence they released this split EP with Mort Subite from Maastricht on their own label fries. The last performance was on April 30, 1981 Eijgelshoven in Program of Ivy Green. Mort Subite were from Maastricht and released two EP's and that's all I found from them. At least this is a awesome EP and if you love KBD punk stuff you should't waste time and get this holy stuff and don't miss the Killed By Epitaph compilation for more nederland goodies.

THE SATELLITES - Here Is Todays News... 1984

Heiliges Ließchen, I've just eaten my first self made omelette and I should have been a cook, perfectly seasoned, golden brown fried and nibbled in five minutes and to this the full length by the Satellites. Founded 1977 in Acton/London by Derek (vocals), Robert (guitars), John (bass) and Danny (drums), released via Brickyard Records. In their six-year life, they made four 7Inches plus this album which was produced by Rat Scabies. They were at the centre of a west London Punk scene with The Ruts and shared a stage with Tubeway Army, Crass, The Pack... You can meet them on some compilations and on this slab are fourteen songs, sometimes fast - sometimes longer, nice mixed and made to bring you a relaxed evening of Punk Rock'N'Roll. That's all for today, bleibt artig!

KONTAKTLIM - Kom Igen EP 1982

Great sole release by this five piece from Eskilstuna called Kontaktlim and they were formed 1978 by Tony (vox), Holger + Stefan (guitars), Anders (bass) and Kenneth (drums) in the northwest of the historical province Södermanland. The small independent label Pippaluckbolaget pressed their 7Inch probably in an edition of 500 copies with a b/w and orange sleeve and we hear three decent punk goodies with a scary fat bass-line and an delicious sound and I think, it's sad they didn't record more but two flashies were used for the Aktiv PR compilation.

THE LEWD - American Wino 1982

Anyone who has heard the Lewd's great late '70s single "Kill Yourself" can vouch for the raw, crazed energy of this young Seattle punk combo. Their self-released single has commanded high prices based on its rarity, not to mention the fact that it kicks ass. The Lewd were an outgrowth of an earlier band called the Sixteen Year Old Virgins, who changed their name to the Knobs. Lead singer J. Satz Baret was formerly as "Satin Sheets," and played in the later, non-cabaret version of Ze Whiz Kids, circa1975. Ze Whiz Kids, primarily a theater group, also included the late Tomata Du Plenty, of the Screamers. According to Satz, The Knobs "never really played. We were going to play, had publicity ahead of us, photo sessions and a flyer that announced that we were coming soon!" Yet the Knobs never played an official show, because as Satz says "we had no songs." Like that's stopped anyone else? 

However, the Knobs did play one intimate "performance" at a Fremont rehearsal space called The Funhole. This A-list evening was written up in a Seattle punk fanzine Twisted. Satz chainsawed a stage monitor during "Chain Saw Sex." 'Nuff said. The Lewd's first show was in the Northwest punk Bethlehem, Vancouver, B.C. The Lewd opened for the Ramones on June 8, 1977 for an evening of pure insanitainment. Johnny Vinyl, a member of a local band that used an unpronounceable symbol for their name (it's commonly pronounced "Aaiieee!") remembers the Lewd opening up for the Ramones at Seattle's 

They released a great three-song EP on Scratched Records in 1979. The record was a home studio recording, and included the insane "Kill Yourself." The B-side numbers, "Trash Can Baby" and "Pay Or Die" are equally great crash 'n' burn punk tunes, all with Blobbo (Kurdt Vanderhoof of Metal Church) playing bass. 

In late 1979, Satz and Blobbo moved The Lewd to San Francisco and Blobbo switched over to guitar, adding Bob Clic on bass. This band recorded some demos and played SF for nearly a year until Blobbo quit to form his new venture Metal Church, who released quite a few heavy metal albums. Bob Clic moved to guitar, and part-time model Olga de Volga came in on bass. Olga had played with other bands, including one called VS and often played Lewd shows wearing outrageous black leather outfits. The band appeared on the 1980 seven-inch, four-band EP S.F. Underground 2 (Subterranean Records) doing the fast-paced punker "Mobile Home." With Christopher Reece in as drummer, they released their only LP, "American Wino," on ICI Records in 1982. Having fully absorbed the emerging faster hardcore punk sound, this blistering document features one side of studio recordings done in Hollywood, and another side culled from a live performance at Target Video Studios. This album is a crucial document of the San Francisco early '80s hardcore scene, right up there with releases by Flipper, VKTMs, No Alternative, Dead Kennedys, etc. 

After the LP was released, Bob Clic left and the band fizzled out soon afterwards. Olga moved to Hawaii, and Chris Reece became a member of Social Distortion. In 1999 Sats and Clic played with The Loudmouths for two live shows in San Francisco, billed as The Lewdmouths. Both shows were insane and the band sounded great. These shows were so much fun it prompted the pair to reform The Lewd, although not as a career minded working band, this time it's only for the kicks they get out of playing these songs again. SNFU - ...And No One Else Wanted To Play 1987

Slept long today, had a fucking night so it's time for a Jever - Now we move westwards to Edmonton where we meet SNFU with their brilliant debut album on Better Youth Organization which has remained influential in underground circuits. They grew in popularity following two further studio albums, but disbanded in 1989 due to internal tensions. The album made an immediate impact in the underground punk scene, with noted artist Pushead writing in Maximumrocknroll that the album's "[r]igorous energy push[es] the limits of power with knocking flurry and extreme excitement." Pushead concluded that the album was "A Scorcher." I had this vinyl with the Europe cover but I can't find them anywhere. I know, I loaned and borrowed many records and today I miss a few.... Assholes! Howsoever, there is nothing you can't not find in the modern world. Well, fourteen Muntermacher and grap the She's Not On The Menu EP too.

ENGLISH DOGS - Mad Punx & English Dogs 1983

We stay in 1983 and move to Grantham, the English Dogs founded there in the beginning of the 80s and were at the forefront of the first wave of English punkrock. After two demos they toured as support to fellow punk band G.B.H in Germany during early 1983 which was very successful for and Clay Records signed them and shortly thereafter their debut 12'' Mad Punx & English Dogs appeared and one year later followed Invasion Of The Porky Men, the first full length album. Personnel changes ensued after the release and they leave Clay to sign with Rot Records and release the decidedly metal tinged To The Ends Of The Earth EP in September 1984. This indicated the direction and their sound became more metallic and Forward Into Battle (1985) documented this change in my opinion excellent. I think, I had three slabs and all are sold (although I enjoyed such sounds back then) and Where Legend Began ('86) completed the transformation and I was out. I think they are very popular in the metal scene and that's okay. So enjoy once more the old hits and I have to go, Bundesliga is on.

APPENDIX - Money Is Not My Currency 1983

For breakfast, I serve gentle Nordic dance music from beautiful Finland and invited are: Mikki (vocals), Jaska (guitar), Tomi (bass) and Vesku (drums) = Appendix. Hailed from Pori, a small town in the western coast of Finland, and although they were not as raw, fast or chaotic as most of the other Finnish hardcore bands at the time, they undoubtedly deserve their place in the Finnish 1980’s hardcore punk history. Ei Raha Oo Mun Valuuttaa is their debut record and was released via Propaganda Records (the label for exquisite Finnish hardcore) and in Germany via Rock-O-Rama, one of the wiser decisions of the Cologne. Sixteen melodic straightforward mid-tempo punk & hardcore songs guarantee lots of wet ear orgasms. The second album, Top Of The Pops (1984), continues seamlessly with more catchy crackers and in autumn the same year the band split up. In the mid 90s Appendix has reformed and made new records/gigs but they can't reach the level of the early days... now it's time for a warm shower!

COMMANDO 9mm - Únete Al Commando 1987

After their great debut 'Amor Frenopatico' Commando 9mm planted with their second album one more fantastic record with fourteen excellent tracks via La General in the in the fruity soil of the underground. Commando 9mm is the result of two other groups which dissolved in 1984, La Uvi and Larsen. They began to play in a place on Embajadores and composed first songs. In 1985 they won the 3rd prize in the 8th edition of the Rock Villa Trophy in Madrid and the town hall produced a single Odio En Sudamérica. The start was done and they were very successful and to date five albums were recorded and sometime in 2002 the band broke up. Represented on some compilations, two of that are the ingenious Viva La Punk slabs.. with this sound into the weekend!

STRASSENJUNGS - Los! 1981

I think, I had three or four records from the following band but I can't find them anymore, only mp3's.. Fuck! Anyway, Strassenjungs is a punkrock band from Frankfurt/Main and they were often a welcome guest in many local youth clubs in the 80s and they have lots of records published, most of them on the band's own label Tritt Records. Their brilliant debut album 'Dauerlutscher' came out in 1977 and was set five years later, because of the offensive lyrics, on the index of the federal department for youth-writings. After expiration of the 25-year indexing period the album was again free to minors. What is absolute nonsense because this album is still a risk for the youth, hahaha. Los! is their third album and makes big FUN from the beginning and lifts the spirits with the housework or other activities. Alive since 1977 and the latest album "HITZ" with new songs came out a year ago. Cheers!

OX - Drugs 7'' 1980

Ok, I'll shoot one more out today and winner is the superb debut record by this five piece from Le Havre, released via Crazy News and this rare killer shines with two unboiled KBD smasher with varied parts but always the roughness we all like listen to. In 1981 they made a second EP, Monkey Public, on SMAP Records and that's it, don't know if this record just as brilliant. On compilatons are OX also rarely represented, the two most important are: Rare Punque Francais '77-'83 (KBD #200) + Je Suis Né Dans Une Poubelle, both may be here soon. To the band otherwise no info, presumably resolution 1981.
