DEAD NITTELS - Anti New-Wave Liga EP 1983

Named after the murdered SPÖ Councillor Heinz Nittel, and following the Dead Kennedys provided the Dead Nittels - with former Pöbel bassist Lörkas in their ranks - in 1981 for supplies in the Vienna punk scene and together with Kleenex Aktiv (founded by two ex-Dirt Shit members) and Schund the foundation of the second Punk generation. Their sound was special: it sounded a lot harder and more metallic than many of their contemporaries, Moreover, their Viennese lyrics were terrible and full of vulgar attacks on the lower values of the Austrian Society. In 1983 they released on it's own their superb 4-track EP out in an edition of 300 pieces, which wore the sounding name "Anti New-Wave Liga - Des Is Wien Und Not London, Okay?". Ultimately, they were like no other bands on the development of the 80-punk scene in Austria and active until the late nineties and released two further albums.

V/A - Lepo Je... 1982

History of middle Europe punk infont of you! Lepo je... (It's Nice...) is another legendary former yugoslavia compilation which was released on the great Jugoton label in 1982 and shows again another musical treat from a country before the fuckin' war came, with a surprisingly active underground scene. A many groups founded here and I like the stuff they released. You know certainly the other awesome comps. and know what I mean. Five bands are also represented here with tangy, raw and partially melodic punk. Convinced? Then serve up some grub.

Well, nothin' new in Blogland with this post but this is my vinyl rip and if you have this unoffical record without artwork then choose this file and see all the liner notes inside. So, this is the last of the first four KBD classics. There are others in the series that are good, great even, but these set the stage for what has become a genre into itself. Almost as good as Volume 2, this marks the end of the contribution from the originator of the series. Mostly excellent tracks, the inclusion of both songs from the stupidly rare Rotters 7" is a bonus. Same for the 4 out 5 tracks from the Zero Boys EP. LA BROMA DE SSATÁN - s/t 12'' 1982

La Broma de SSatán is a punk band from Madrid, Spain. The group's name is written sometimes, perhaps erroneously, as "The Joke Of Satan" (with one 'S'), and abbreviated (at least in the back of their first album) as 'SS'. Their extensive musical career begins in 1980, coinciding with the outbreak of punk and the beginning of the Madrid scene. The band released via Victory Records this Mini-LP in the late 1982 and it contains 7 killer tracks. They offer pretty well-done punk of both the '77 and more contemporary varieties. The song titles, which include "Pogo On A Nazi" & "You're Gonna Die In El Salvador" indicate their thematic concerns. Indeed a classic of it's own. Get It!!

REGISTRATORS - Girl Girl Girl EP 1994

The Registrators formed in Japan in the late '80s, influenced by the leading punk rock bands of the time. Lead vocalist Hiroshi, alongside bassist Ren, guitarist Jun, and drummer Deira started by mainly playing covers of bands like the Damned, the Clash, or the Sex Pistols. During the following times, the band managed to record several singles, also appearing on Chloroform, a Japanese punk rock compilation in the mid of the '90s. This little three song pearl is fuckin' awesom, the band played a high-standard garage punk'N'roll and blow your head off, only 1000 copies were pressed usually, maybe 2000. Cool!

THE SUSSED - Don't Swim On The East Coast 7'' 1981

Excellent PowerPop/Punk record and their only release, meanwhile a classic and nowhere present on a compilation. The Sussed were a seminal Irish Punk/New Wave band based in Dublin, Ireland between 1979 & 1984. Members were Rory (vox), Paul (guitars), John (drums) and The Masked Bassman (bass). They shot to fame with the release of their debut single "Don't Swim On The East Coast" in 1981 (First pressing of 500 copies in red sleeve, 2nd pressing of 500 copies in yellow sleeve) which was about the English Nuclear plant Windscale that was leaking radioactive material into the Irish sea (Windscale later changed its name to Sellafield as Windscale had such a bad reputation). The single went to number 3 in the charts despite some radio stations not playing it because of its lyrics.

FUCK UPS - Al's My Pal EP 1994

More cool stuff comes now and I give the mic to the band itself: "The Fuck Ups are a band from Oslo, Norway that plays Punk Rock and Oi! and they have released a couple of EP's and I think one Mini-LP. They do not give you the perfect sound-experience, but: tight, dirty, fast sound and party! (None of them are exactly any good musicans...) At their gigs, they want the audience to have fun. Therefore the band often dresses up more or like fools and they are not afraid of making "fuck ups" at the stage! and that's the reason for their band name. They have also performed under the pseudonym "Jahn Rågers" (Oslo Pønk-Råkk Festival) and they're only just playing covers! (sometimes even Fuck Ups covers too)." So this EP had two own songs and two cover tunes, Watch Your Back & Borstal Breakout and you all know the originals.

V/A - Pultti EP 1982

This little juwel was a self-released one and discogs says Pultti was a fanzine made by Pexi, the singer of Maho Neitsyt and probably 118 copies were pressed but I'm not sure. Fact is this one is a very rare one and the music here is all quite good. Starts with the classic Appendix from Pori and I think you know them well because they had two albums released in the 80s, nice mid-tempo punk at its finest. Maho Neitsyt from Kuusankoski with a short dirty goodie, always nice this pinched voice. They released a lot of 7inches through the 80s and essential is a compilation called "Näinkö Viina Vaikuttaa?" with all their recordings, it's sure a bootleg, don't know when this came out. From Etuala exists only this song here, maybe it's a side-project from some of this band here, no idea, sure the song kicks enormous. Behind Antikeho stuck no other than the Bastards, the hardcore kings, everyone knows. More Antikeho you can find on the great "Russia Bombs Finland" compilation on Propaganda Records. Nato is another unknown band, maybe from Helsinki and here with the longest track, 3 minutes. Cool Punk'N'Roll sound with snotty guitars and a fine solo. They're ditto on the "Russia" comp. and a few other bootlegs. Appendix close this record with a Killer one. Resume: Successful record, no failure, nice artwork, Pogo guaranteed!

I REFUSE - Demo 2011

A very interesting young band which was the opening act at the last Turbostaat gig and me completely excited are I Refuse from Beilstein, somewhere in Baden-Württemberg/Germany. They played ca. 20 minutes and the four were fuckin' good. Clear that I had to buy their demo immediately. Let me give you some info from Alessandro from borderlinefuckup, he reviewed this tape and I can only agree: "They see themselves as archetypal HC / punk band in which values and ideals are more important than anything else. The texts are critical and treat issues such as sexism, commercialization, discrimination and alienation. This is nothing new in the genre. Their statements are always clear, but never formulated to flat and come with the necessary pinch Coated therefore awareness. In the end, the guys sound very sincere. One never has the feeling that they want to teach one or make a preacher. They speak only out what so often thinks himself. The ten tracks are bumpy, direct punk numbers that barely crack the 2-minute mark and go with a high tempo forward. However, the highly melodic guitar act and thus provide much hit character. Complemented by discreet moshy, broken guitar sound in the style of Black Flag, which is a pretty cool mix. The singer rarely cries, but interprets the lyrics with his own style, somewhere between chanting, wild bickering and almost harmonic vocals. Anyway, he sounds very charismatic and manages to put some life in his stories. The not quite 22 minutes convince from start to finish. I Refuse anno 2011 sounds musical very fresh and is a stand out among the German punk pabulum." I can add nothing, except this tape was released in an edition of 100 and this year a 12'' called "Öffnen/Atmen" is planned with seven songs. Finally, a few words of the band themselves: "We're a more or less shitty four-piece punk band, we exist since 2008 and we'd like to play at your squat, youthcentre, rehearsal room, living room and so on for a little gas-money, something vegetarian to eat and a few drinks. We have strong opinions about nationalism, racism, fascism, sexism, homophobia, your macho-toughguy attitude and the general shittyness of this fucked up world. (Which means we dislike that stuff.) Get in touch!"

HURSKAS - Isänmaa Huumaa 7'' 1980

Hurskas from Hämeenlinna was formed sometime in 1979. Their first major gig was at Ämy festival in 1979, and the same year they recorded songs for Hilse's second compilation (also featuring Sig, Tinneri and Vandaalit), which was released early next year. Hurskas provides the roughest set on the compilation: the lyrics are fiercely political, and the compositions probably pleased not only punks but heavy metal kids as well. In 1980 second guitarist Jaakob joined the band and single Isänmaa huumaa was released on Hilse label. The band's style hadn't changed between recordings, the single tracks are as hard as the previous output. However, the band broke up before they managed to make an album. Just the cover design for the album (called Hartaita säveliä) was made before the breakup.
