THE WRETCHED ONES - Live EP 1999

This cool picture vinyl by Knock Out Records feautures four cool live recordings (including the classic 'Goin' Down The Bar') and were taped 23.05.1998 in Hamburg @ the Grosse Freiheit 36 when the Wretched Ones supported Angelic Upstarts and Pit (vocals), G.T. (guitars), Bob (bass), Mike (drums) do a very good jobThe Wretched Ones are a quartet from Midland Park, New Jersey and active since the late Eighties and with the demo ('89) they have released four albums, the last in 2007, and lots of 7Inches. To my knowledge the band broke up in 2009. What a good live band they were, shows this record impressively. "Fueled by singer Pit's gravelly, venom-spitting vocals, thick guitar, these guys are masters at this sort of stuff. It's basic, no-frills Punk, built on good riffs and sarcastic and smart lyrics" and the recording quality round off this little show 100%.👍

VENOM - Barmy Army 7'' 2013

This nugget was released via Punkhouse Records, 250 copies in red vinyl and both tracks were recorded 1980-1981. I quote info from discogs: Consisting of David 'Snakey' Cooze on vocals, Glenn Evans on bass/vocals, Dai Monk on guitar and Sam Phillips on drums, the Venom played their first gig on 3rd may 1979 - the day Margaret Thatcher was voted in as Prime Minister. Formed from the remains of local punk heroes the Noise, the four-piece took their original inspiration from the old-school DIY ethic of bands such as The Clash and Slaughter & The Dogs. Monk and Phillips moved on in early 1980 and were replaced by Wayne Rowe & Steve 'Gagsy' Garland respectively. Following an incident at a football match the band took an enforced hiatus at Her Majesty's Pleasure. When they re-emerged, Snakey took to wearing a balaclava on stage and their style morphed towards the crowd pleasing chant-along style of Sham 69. The band recorded three self-funded sessions over their career, yielding such local punk classics as Saturday Afternoon Trouble, Barmy Army and their own irreverent take on Nancy Sinatra's 1966 hit - These Boots Were Made For Stomping. The results impressed Sounds journalist Garry Bushell enough to pen two articles about the band and subsequently include the track Where's Dock Green? on the Back On The Streets EP that accompanied the third Oi! album Oi Oi Thats Yer Lot. Their association with the Oi movement attracted an ever-expanding fanbase of punks and skins that saw previously good humoured gigs often descend into violence. The band called it a day in summer 1982 following their final gig at Swansea's Townhill Tech.

TEENAGE HEAD - King St. Teddy Boys 2007

Damn good record now by Teenage Head from Hamilton, Ontario. The group was formed in Hamilton by Frankie Venom (Frank Kerr), Gord Lewis, Steve Mahon and Nick Stipanitz. Stipanitz has since been replaced, and Venom died on October 15, 2008. He is survived by his two kids Samuel and Anjel-joe. The band's name is a reference to The Flaming Groovies' album Teenage Head, which Gord Lewis had seen advertised in a music magazine, but not heard, and decided that he, one day, would form a band with that name. They released records since 1979 and are still active; on this little nugget are twelve wild ass-kicker, side-a was recorded @ Thunder Sound, Oct. 31, 1978, Toronto and on the other @ Danforth Music Hall/Toronto 1979 and Western University, London/Ontario 1980; all songs in an amazing sound quality, Top!

V/A - A Small Retrosperspective (Live!) 2019

VENOM - @ Hellfest, Clisson 20.06.2015

The Gods of Black Metal and to date the undisputed #1 are Venom from Newcastle which were formed 1978 and with some breaks still active. Fifteen albums (I only have two left) appeared during this period and with their extreme music they enthrall countless fans all over the world. In 2015 they played at the Hellfest which went three days and here is their gig in a fantastic recording quality. So join the Venom's Legions, pick up the double album From Hell To Unknown as well and have a sunny Easter Monday. Now I have to ride with my bike to Heike's brunch in the heart of Offenbach.

GENOCIDE & M.I.A. - Last Rides For... 1982

Awesome split record from Smoke Seven Records with two great US hardcore/punk combos. Genocide was founded early 1980 in New Jersey by Bobby EBZ (vocals), Wheels (bass), Jet Screamer (guitars) and Damage (drums) and "they were a full-throttle, skull fucking rip-ride of hardcore sex, ghetto drugs and berserk violence, a supersonic nailgun of Aquanet and mascara and spikes and splatterpunk and slutmetal. And this was way before most of that shit was even invented, brother. Led by shadowy charlatan and full-bore suicidal egomaniac Bobby EBZ, for one very brief but blinding moment in the late 80’s, Genocide threatened to rip rockNroll’s heart right out of it’s leather-clad chest and eat it whole. Besides a fashion sense that suggested needle Nazis from outer space, and a disposition just this side of liquored-up junkyard dogs, Genocide really ought to be remembered as one of the first bands to realize that there wasn't a whole lot of difference between the punk rock riot of GBH and the hellfire spit metal of Venom. So they played both at once - M.I.A. were formed 1980 in Las Vegas by Mike (vocals), Nick (guitars), Paul (bass/piano) and Moon (drums) and they broke up and then reunited a few months later in Orange County/California, becoming part of the growing scene there. Shortly after recording a demo, songs were snapped up for two now-legendary 1982 punk compilations: American Youth Report and Not So Quiet On The Western Front. The rest of the demo was released as a split LP Last Rites for Genocide and M.I.A.- The band struck a deal with notorious punk label Alternative Tentacles and released Murder in A Foreign Place in June of 1984. That summer they embarked on a grueling three month tour of the United States & Canada. In 1985 they completed another U.S. tour and headed back into the studio to record the post-punk classic Notes From the Underground. In 1987 the band issued its final studio album on Flipside Rec., After The Fact. In 2001, Alternative Tentacles issued Lost Boys, a compilation of the first two albums plus extras; in 2017 Darla Records reissued Notes From the Underground and After The Fact digitally and on CD for the first time." Great Music!

VENOM - From Hell To The Unknown 1985

One favourite band in my metal days were Venom, pioneers of the so-called Black Metal style, and their first two albums are excellent. Snotty hard sound and somehow untypical for this genre I mean. The roots of punk are unmistakably, listen to 'Bursting Out' or 'Live Like An Angel' for example also 'Buried Alive' is extreme cool. Since 1979 alive Venom released a lot of records and I lost interest with the 'Calm Before The Storm' album and of course my passion for punkrock. This double album came out on Raw Power records, record one is the debut Welcome To Hell and number two is rare stuff, including live recordings. Enjoy the sound of the original inventers and founders of Black Fuckin' Metal!

VOÏVOD - Rrröööaaarrr 1986

One more from my Metal records and this time we cross the atlantic and make a stop in Jonquière/Quebec, Canada and meet Voïvod. I remember Richy when he came in with the debut album 'War And Pain' and this sound was somehow different from Venom, Slayer or Possessed (our faves that time). Chaotic song structure away from the typical construction of verse/chorus/solo/tschüß, no this four create a new style and so I have still two albums here. Also noteworthy are the cover designs which all paint by drummer Away, mostly with futuristic machines, the new age regards. Many albums were recorded and I had enough with the fourth and turned then more into punk. Well, I have intense memories with Voïvod, saw them live with Whiplash and Sodom in Mainz and all that remains unforgotten. - Recently I read that guitarist Piggy died on 26.August 2005 on some fucking cancer...shit game. One more reason to enjoy this roaring highlight.

WARFARE - Crescendo Of Reflexions 1991

At an early hour the right soundtrack and for this we swing over to the British Island to one of my favourite metal/trash/punk band: Warfare from Newcastle, a Punk edged Metal band. Their debut Pure Filth from 1984 is fuckin' great and I listen to it several times and even today at least once a month. It's a classic and this stuff always brings good memories back. This compilation delivered through Kraze Records, recorded at Trinity Heights Studios summer '91 in Newcastle, found Evo, guitarist J.J. (actually Jeff Dunn - Mantas of Venom) and bassist Zlaughter re-working the band's best known songs from their older days. I think this was only released in the U.S.A. but I'm not sure. A good mix from their first three LP'S inside and the new recordings shred across very nice. There are many compilations that nobody needs and only released to make tons of money but this little CD is different and I think for new fans an excellent overview to shed light closer on this band. By the way, cool cover.
