V/A - Bloodstains Across Spain 1997

I finish the month of March with this pretty compilation of bands from Spain. In this country, we were happy to host and I can recommend anyone to visit this land. There's a lot historical to see, pleasant climate, people who talk like a machine gun, delicious food ... and finally cool music. Reliable and rare material from the early 80s is impressively cobbled together and for me one of the best Bloodstains records. I think no more than 500 copies were pressed - Anyway, sit back and enjoy!!!

V/A - Compilation N.E.1 1981

Sunderland Musicians Collective, mostly recorded at Guardian Studios, released by Guardian Records N' Tapes shows this nice litte record what's going on there. A good mix of punky and wavie tunes which only appear here and not anywhere else. Don't know much about the Sunderland area but the sound of the city is quite cool and amazing that I can't find a typical UK smasher ala G.B.H or so on it. I guess, life is more melancholy and quiet as in London, it's here no different. Enjoy the music and dig in!

1.Drop The Bomp - 24 HOURS
2.Reasons - ALLERGIC TO CATS
3.Don't Do It - ZILCHO BABES
4.Peanut Gang - RHYTHM METHODISTS
5.Switch Off - SUSPECTS
6.Arctotis Sloath Part 1 & 2 - REMNANTS OF WARSAW
7.In Britain - RED ALERT
8.Venu Sanctus Spiritus - FASHIONABLE IMPURE
9.Worky Ticket - TOY DOLLS
10.Master Of The Obvious - THE D.T.'s
11.Walk The Dog - NEGATIVE THROB
12.Break My Heart Again - ZULU 'N' THE HEARTACHES
13.Dream Song - GENOCIDE EXIT
14.R.A.F. - THE CRIME
15.Always Lose My Temper - THE CULT
16.Billy You're Ready - HIGH SPEED HEROES

THE SMASH - Patricia 7'' 1984

Two sided-Killer 7inch now. The members of Smash played from 1980 to 83 in the band Road Rats, than changed their bandname to Smash and released this great and forgotten Powerpop-Punkrock Single. Recorded in 1984 by A.C. Vogel at the famous Sunrise studio, the two songs carry the typical 70's Swisspunk sound, like Sperma or Chaos and a good "splash" of the Undertones. Unfortunately their only record but what a Smasher!!

CHRIS BRAUN BAND - Chrisbaumbrennt 7'' 1981

This rare record was released on CBS Records and it's presumably one of the better recordings from this german combo. Chris Braun Band were founded beginning of the 70s in Dortmund and they made this kind of music which is called 'krautrock', I'm not really a fan of this and their first album came out 1972 where punk was still in deep sleep. I think, we can take it as 'noted' but this litte piece of vinyl here is quite cool. Two solid wave numbers with a pinch of punk, nice tempo and good lyrics and a woman's voice that rocks convince me and it's worth a listen. Fine...okay...jajajaja!

NECRACEDIA - Now I See Clearly 1991

Well, I kinda tired to post more, feel empty and burned out but I need to do something else, otherwise I go completely insane. Lucky for you. In the short silent time new material came in and asap will this appear here in this cinema.

But today one more old post by a great punk band hailing from Pittsburgh. Necracedia were active from 1986 until 1992. Their debut EP Fight For Change was released 1990 in Viesly/France by Bad Card Records and you got four cool punk songs and a track at the end which isn't noted on the tracklist, but you will now how it named. In 1991 they released their only full length album on WreckAge Records and this is a Killer with twelve classic punk numbers, like their debut the band not lose their hardness and this album is powerful and aggressive and the snotty vocals are just awesome. Hell, I love this voice!! America have many cool punk bands but this 4 piece combo deserves your attention and I hope you'll find at least how great they are. 'I Wanna Leave This Sick Machine', classic mid-tempo punk and I see clearly now (!) and you'll do so well.

V/A - R...Is For Records! [Special] 2015

A long, very emotional day comes to an end and I'm pretty exhausted. Besides, I'm fucking tired and I close the post marathon today with one more selfmade compilation. I tried to pack 6½ years and my current feelings in thirty songs and it was not easy but I think the result is delicious and I'm very satisfied. At this point I would like to thank all those who continue to send me music, fine and rare postin' (Hello KBD!), all those who leave a comment or otherwise support me. Life's a Bitch! Tomorrow can be everything different. Remember that. EA80 - Zwei Hundert Zwei 1990

Her favourite EA80 record. I know why!

ZOUNDS - The Curse Of Zounds! 1982

The ultimate vacation holiday sound, emotional, aggressive & always with us, our # 1

We love the curse of Zounds. They were part of England’s late-’70s/early-’80s anarcho-punk scene; friends of Crass, they released their debut EP on the latter’s label. Though they released a number of EPs and singles, they only managed to put out one full-length album, The Curse Of Zounds, before disbanding in 1982 (they still active again). This collection includes everything the band ever recorded. There are plenty of tough, taut punk tunes here. An album that never gets boring after the first listen as I feel with some other albums and so the CD is once every week in my player, includes all scans which I get from Mr.WaggonCheers to you, my friend!!!

INNOCENT VICARS - Funky Town 7'' 1980

Specially the b-side is the burner here, brilliant song with pointed lyrics.
I never thought that would mean so much now.

The music from this band is really one of my favourites and it's no wonder that I choose the flip 'Voices' for my selfmade compilation Forward Into The Past because it's one of these tunes I can hear again and again, all day long you know. So Richard Norris was part of the Vicars and he wrote some info about when and why:

"The Innocent Vicars formed in 1980, with an average age of 14. The St. Albans band met at school, bonding over a love of Bo Diddley, the Undertones and Buzzcocks. The line up chopped and changed for a while before settling on Richard Norris (vocals + rhythm guitar), Aaron Russell (lead guitar) brother of the Toys Mick Russell), and Nigel Benson (bass) who went into a Christian recording studio in Wheathampstead to cut 'She's Here'/'Antimatter'. A host of local talent guested on the record, including Nick Egan from the Tea Set on backing vocals, Cally from the Tea Set on drums, Mark Adams from the Bodies on Roland 101 synth (making the acid house noise on 'Antimatter' nearly a decade early) and Waldo's Phil Smee on production duties.

The single sold out of it's initial 500 pressing, thanks to support from John Peel and Radio 1's Round Table show, where it was spun straight after the Clash. The band played many school discos, local clubs, various church halls and youth clubs in St. Albans, Hatfield, Luton and Harpenden, as well as a number of spots at St Albans City Hall (supporting Kagagoogoo and Paul Young's band Q Tips). They also played at the Fleur De Lys pub, despite all being underage, at a girl's Boarding school and in St Albans Abbey (twice).

After a quick line up change (Mike 'Mac' McDonald replaced Nigel Benson on bass, Steve Watts took over on drums), the band recorded a second single, a cover of Lipps Inc's 'Funky Town' backed with 'Voices'. They also appeared on two compilation albums, with the tracks 'Starship 22' and 'She Was My Girl'.

Since their release thirty years ago, the original singles have been bootlegged a number of times in America and Japan and regularly sell for over £100 on ebay. BBC Radio's Steve Lamacq named 'She's Here' one of his all time favorite records, playing it on BBC 6 Music as recently as February 2011. Richard Norris, 'Mac' McDonald and Steve Watts have all had long careers in music. Aaron Russell and Nigel Benson are currently missing in action (any updates gratefully received)."

I hope you have come to taste and on compilations: Teenage Treats Vol. 1, Killed By Death #69, The Class Of '81 and Rupert Preaching At A Picnic, all classics I think.

UHF - Jorge Morreu EP 1979

Beautiful memories and moments with this sound.

1978, in Almada a band of four guys wanting to take revenge on the music. The group was formed by Américo Manuel (drums), Carlos Perez (bass guitar), Renato Gomes (guitar) and Antonio Manuel Ribeiro (vocals, guitar). The group's first concert was on November 20, 1978. This is the first release by our all time fave band UHF from Portugal and the EP 'Jorge Morreu' ('George Died') is about a death by Overdose. "The godfathers of Portuguese rock" played brilliant melodic power/punk/pop songs and they are big stars in their country. At that time UHF has traveled the entire country, and even do the first part of the concerts from the likes of Dr Feelgood and Elvis Costello and then they're in. I love them and if you think I'm crazy so listen to their songs and I'm sure you search this blog for more UHF stuff. A quite delicious sound and We both loved to listen them everytime. There is a second edition released (one year later I think) by this EP with different covers. Enjoy!

WIPERS - Live 1984

The ringtone I still have, darling!

TURBOSTAAT - Flamingo 2001

Today is my beloved Girlfriend's Birthday and the following posts are dedicated to her. They include bands she liked to hear and we always had on vacation with us. Darling, I Miss You So Much And Without You Everything Is Much Harder....

Start with Turbostaat. Brilliant band from Husum/Flensburg and I saw them first 1999 in Hamburg at the Rote Flora. At that time they were relatively unknown, but they have already shown they have what it takes and now they become one of the best German punk bands. Powerful punk-music peppered with emotional and thoughtful lyrics. On stage, the guys give everything and it's always a pleasure to be involt. Next EA80 the band we have most viewed together. Also the deal with Warner had not changed the bands view. If you have not listening to Turbostaat then you must pick this up quick.

V/A - Happy On Your Side 1992

Last for today and I leave you with this nice garage/low-fi punk compilation by the German label Orgasm Records. The home of Der Durstige Mann and other rowdys. On it a very good cross section of rare demos, outtakes and remixes. I remember that this album was requested by someone, but cannot remember his name. Well anyway, the desire is hereby fulfilled. Musically is everything top here, real punkrock would I say how anyone can play it. Heavily distorted, partly cellar sound and many tracks released here for the first time. V/A - Springtime In Belsen 1998

Today is compilation day and the next record is a Bootleg in the vein of KBD. Eighteen early worldwide punkrock goodies here and I must say most of the songs can be find on the legendary Killed By Death records so therefore, in my opinion, this plate is not really essential. I mean, if you should you see this for a decent price then take it, no question about it but not for horror totals as it circulates currently. Ach scheiß was drauf, I have an extreme hangover from yesterday's gig and realize again that I'm not getting younger, haha.. Your old sacks of you know what I mean. Well, the sound here is cool, the song selection is okay and a small step into the weekend. I guess, I hang around for awhile at home today and relax with my technique shit. Good Night!

V/A - Life Is A Joke Vol.2 + Extra Album 1986

This post has been requested and I don't know who asked, anyway; sixteen bands from ten countries, this international compilation is the second one from the Hamburg based label Weird System series Life Is A Joke and I mean, the first record is the best from this. Here we have well known bands mixed with exotic stuff (Cyan Revue) and bands which don't interest me further. Don't get me wrong, this is a "nice" album and worth listen but when I think about the Keine Experimente comps. this serie looks a bit scarf. No matter, remarkable is the first release which was published in a limited edition as a double album with a gatefold sleeve and called "The Extra Album" and it's fuckin' rare and it's on board. In the end a good record but far from a classic.

1.Countdown - BLUT+EISEN
2.Psych-Out 129 - ANGRY SAMOANS
3.School Days - THE SQUIRT
4.Human Error - SUBHUMANS
5.Cyanide Repressative - CYAN REVUE

DRAHDIWABERL - Lonely 7'' 1982

"It was always my goal to make Drahdiwaberl the most extreme and obscene band and I think we did that!" (Stefan Weber) - Drahdiwaberl is a politically oriented band, which was founded in Austria by singer Stefan Weber in 1969. The name is derived from the Viennese term for a roundabout. In the early years the band was in the first place a cover combo and interpreted music of bands like Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and The Beatles in German. In the mid 70's they wrote their own songs. During this time, the first demo tapes were released. Their first official appearance was in 1972 at the University of Vienna. In 1978, Falco comes into the band. A year later they were on the amazing punk compilation Wiener Blutrausch on Schnazz-O-Phone/Tonau Records for which the band contributed three songs. A lot of gigs followed and the first records were released on GiG Records.

Musically Drahdiwaberl are difficult to classify. This is due, among other things, the ever-changing band line-up. Already in the first years their songs were distinguished by a high degree of individuality, although the band almost exclusively lectured cover versions of famous rock & roll pieces. Through the bizarre mixture of jazz and blues many cuts were barely recognizable. In the 70s, they devoted themselves with their political and aggressive lyrics to punk rock, instrumental during this time were deliberately distorted and poorly tuned guitars and the more restrained use of the drums. The left-leaning lyrics of the band related work across the years almost always to current political events, always with a touch of cynicism and black humor. Issues with which the band continues to set apart, include racism in Austria, the Red Army Faction (Baader-Meinhof Group), the FPÖ and George W. Bush. Drahdiwaberl was primarily known for their live performances.
Weber emphasized always wanting to do something for the public, so that it would entertain. So the band decided to accompany their performances with a flash show, often ended with home bans and sanctions by the organizer.

On this superb 7inch is with 'Lonely' a nice rockin' ballad and the flip is an interesting cover version of the 60s classic 'Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Honolulu Strandbikini'. Two cool tracks I like.

PVC - Sykebil 7'' 1980

Started out as a punk band from Oslo/Norway which was active in the early 1980's. The band consisted of Rune Martinsen (bass), Jørn Loe (guitar), Hans Christian Andersen (drums), Nils Petter Jensen (guitar) and Svein Dahl (vox). Their debut 7'' Sykebil on Plæstik Records was basically almost the joke to expect - the group had one song in their repertoire, the second they made in the studio. None the less - the circulation of 500 items went out before the year was over. In autumn came the next 7-inch "Galehus" and their lyrics here are quite critical about church and advertising. Here with Bitten Forsudd on vox. The following year came the first of the band's two mini-LP "Emile Berliner" and if anyone has this album then sent it quickly please. After this they had some major line up changes and became more electronic new wave/post punk. PVC's last sign of life came in form of their final 7-inch called "Who's That Man" at the end of 1982. So here'e their debut record + the Galehus 7''. A total of four run-down KBD Smasher and the right sound to salut the coming weekend.

RAMONES - Sheena Is A Punk Rocker 7'' 1977

Classic stuff now by the Ramones (R.I.P.) and from their 3rd Album 'Rocket To Russia' this 7inch reached # 81 in the Billboard Hot 100. Sheena is a Punk Rocker was written by lead singer Joey Ramone. The lyrics is about a young outsider who does not like other teenagers visited nightclubs because she is a "Punk Rocker", crude, wild and sexy. Like 'Rockaway Beach' is 'Sheena Is A Punk Rocker' one of the most popular and famous songs of the Ramones. It was - according to 'Judy Is A Punk' from the debut album - one of the first pieces of music which had the dominant genre term "punk" in the title. I Don't Care is a three chords and minimal text composition and is a song which was originally recorded for the first Ramones album, moreover one of the very first tunes that the group had ever written. The Ramones were an American rock band that formed in the New York City neighborhood of Forest Hills, Queens, in 1974. They are often cited as the first punk rock group. Despite achieving only limited commercial success, the band was a major influence on the punk rock movement in both the United States and the United Kingdom. I think you need no further info about band & music. Ramones are minimalist and melodic "Three Chord PunkRock" with humorous and absurd lyrics. So this copy is the german edition.

THE WORK - I Hate America EP 1981

You can say what you want, avant-rock, industrial music or whatever, I say this is a real punk record, pretty chaotic and pretty low-fi noises celebrate this oblique three piece combo. The Work were founded in 1980 by multi-instrumentalist/composer Tim Hodgkinson and guitarist/composer Bill Gilonis, with bass guitarist Mick Hobbs and drummer Rick Wilson. They experimented with tape collages which led to the creation of an independent record label, Woof Records and a band. Enlisting the services of Mick Hobbs and Rick Wilson they formed The Work and made their first recording, an EP "I Hate America", released on the Woof label. The band toured Europe in 1981 and 1982 and recorded their first album "Slow Crimes" in 1982. After a tour of Japan later that year and releasing Live in Japan, the band split up. In 1989, The Work reformed to record "Rubber Cage" and performed throughout Europe between 1989 and 1994, releasing another album "See" in 1992. This stuff here is amazing and they show how simple it is to bring weird noises in a dissonant harmony. That sounds contradictory I know but the art is to make it sound accordingly and that's why I love this record so much. There exists a few tapes with live material and if someone can send me a copy I would be grateful. Until then, enjoy this potpourri of funny music.

P.I.G.Z. - Bloody Belgium 12'' 1978

A essential record comes right now from Belgium. The P.I.G.Z. from Kortrijk, who played a lot with The Kids & blew them regularly off stage (at least that's what the old punks from Kortrijk claim). Three tracks from their one and only record, a 12", cos it's so damn rare (their only other output is two songs on the 'Punk live, First Belgian Punk Contest' compilation album). It's from 1978, the tracks are in a different order than the labels say & it came in an originally white paper sleeve that had the Pigz name glued on it & was further hardcolored with some black. In 1978 the Pigz also participated in Humo's RockRally, Belgium's most important musical contest for upcoming bands, set up by Humo magazine. Anyway, here we have enough rough KBD punk rockers from a band which was really too short active.

THE POP RIVETS - Greatest Hits 1979

This album is one more a superb record. The Pop Rivets were Russ Wilkins (bass), Little Russ (drums), Bruce Brand (guitar) and Billy Childish (vox) and came together in England during 1977 along with the punk wave that was then sweeping the music scene. Borrowing money, they recorded an album in 1979, Greatest Hits which make up some of the tracks on this retrospective. Their sound was unpolished, loud and have the speed and aggressiveness of punk in the late seventies. The band recorded an EP and two albums between 1977 and 1980. On this album are only classics, 'Fun In The UK' of course everybody knows, 'Commercial' or 'Hipocrite' are hits I listen three times in a row. Ahh, Fuck, this is great stuff and you're a fool if you're not stop here.

23 TILL - Allt Vad Jag Vill Ha 1991

Formed in Norrköping in the middle of Sweden around 1985 by Janne Abrahamsson (vox + guitar), Micke Pihlblad (bass + vox) and Pär Andersson (drums), 23 Till have become one of the best bands with a lot of routine on the swedish music underground scene today. They released four 7inches, one split album and three full length records. Until now, completely unknown to me but to my surprise the boys kick here thirteen classic mid-tempo punk numbers out, sometimes quiet tones too but consistently rockin' & rollin, particularly 'Hej På Er Pojkar' is a damn killer song. The press called it "something so wild you're afraid to take it away from the record player". Check swedishpunk.com for more infos about this cool punkrockers. I can only say it's worth the download!

GERHARD HELMUT & RIPPER - Live @ Rock Corporation/Hollywood USA 1975

Frankfurt 8°, grey skies, rain, spring is still far and I continue March with this crone jewel. A historical tone document in a damn good quality and I can promise you these recordings blow you away. Eleven songs, full with wild raw energy are here celebrated in less than 30 minutes and if the Sex Pistols regarded as the inventor of punk this must be rethought because we know this cliché built the press in those days without really knowing what. Fuck them! The spirit to leave the norm and be yourself is alive in this music and makes clear that we will not be tamed, this is our life, our rules, our freedom. Put your crappy thoughts in your ass and shut up! Ahhh, this LP is revolutionary, haha.. Let me give you some info about the band which I quote from the superb Austro-Rock-Lexikon site: "Gerhard Helmut, Graz-born vocalist (in the 1960's he fronted the Austrian beat band VAMPS) who moved to New York in 1969, but relocated to Hollywood in 1972 was the bass player for Shady Lady, an underground early 70s L.A. lam rock band in the mold of DOLLS/STONES, they recorded an excellent LP, but it was never released, the band broke up in early '73, a few years later when punk rose up he formed this band RIPPER that release one great self produced new wave/punk single of which the a side got onto the Who Put The Bomp? compilation, that also distribute their release now impossible to find with Unter Der Faust in the A side (a german version of Under My Thumb from the Stones) and 'Trapped Like A Rat' on the flipside. Gerhard Helmut lives now in Hawaii." So this record came out 2008 on the Italian label 'Snaps Music' and is strictly limited to 40 pieces. I'm sure you will like this exquisite record, I in any case enjoy every fuckin' minute.
