V/A - Shake Some Action Vol.5 2003

Today I wanna shine with a few essential compilations and we kick off with a mini serie called Shake Some Action which bring us rare Powerpop, Mod & New Wave pearls from the late 70s to the mid 80's and each volume illuminates a special area of our wonderful planet and #5 is dedicated to the U.K. and Ireland. The whole thing is really put together with much love, as well the detailed booklet with all infos about bands/songs. I give 10 points out of 10 and it's damned important that such discs are dug up by fiery doers, Thx!

THE JOLT - You're Cold! 7'' 1977

Puhhh, today I'm extremely exhausted and almost walk around in my sleep and after this post I will retire until tomorrow morning, but first the debut 7Inch by the Jolt from Glasgow on Polydor and they brought new influences into the young Punk scene, in their case a healthy dose of Sixties R&B. Usually tossed into the mod bag, the Jolt defied such easy categorizations, and split up 1979 just as that movement emerged into the national spotlight. (Jo-Ann Greene) - Four singles and one album are listed in their vita and this three piece was a classic combo and a perfect example how the music press can exert some bad influence. Also on very good compilations at home. Good Night!

THE JOLT - s/t LP 1978

Only full length album by this cool band. A little Intro from wiki: The Jolt were a Scottish band formed in Glasgow in 1976. They started out playing 60s covers and then sped up their music, playing a mix of punk rock and power pop. The lineup was Robbie Collins, Jim Doak and Iain Shedden. The band built up its following playing at the Crown Hotel, Wishaw. They enjoyed moderate success during the punk and early new wave era. They moved to London, England and signed to Polydor Records. In addition to their LP they have four 7inches released and their sound are on several compilations. This album is a decent mix of powerpop and punk and the boys know how to do it right. I mean, for 1978 is this amazing.
