KLAMYDIA - Pää Kiinni Painajainen 1992

First post this year and honestly, I didn't miss it. Real life has a lot of hold on me right now and it's more important than music (who knew?). I don't want to say much either, it is what it is and of course the blog will continue, the theater isn't closed, it is just being renovated, lots of cool records waiting for their appearance, so stay tunedLet's continue with Klamydia (Chlamydia), a Finnish combo which founded 1988 in Vaasa and the band's name was chosen because it was the worst word coming to their mind. They always been renowned as a humour-band, but they have a lot of songs criticising society, and other songs about serious subjects, like incest as well as love songs. The band's history is characterized by a multitude of changes in the composition of the members - only singer Vesku has been a member of the line-up continuously since its founding - but also by a tirelessness that has so far led to twenty-four albums and a total of well over three hundred songs. This is their third album which came via their own label Kråklund Records and was recorderd by Vesku (vocals), Vuokko (guitars), Shitsi (bass), Riku (drums). Musically, they write short melodic pieces, and I mean there are only two types of Punkrock from Finland dominant: blatant Hardcore and melodic Ramonesque sound. Klamydia tend towards the latter, but every now and then flashes of aggressiveness, not for wimps. And they're still demonstrating it live, check out when they're coming to your city.

RATTUS - s/t LP 1984

3000 copies of this album by Rattus were pressed by the New York Rat Cage Records label and it's a compilation of old tracks re-recorded and I'm not sure, this goodie was only released exclusively for the friends there. Rattus was founded 1978 in Vilppula and are definitely one of the driving forces in the Finnish underground scene and with their angry, aggressive & powerful Hardcore sound they not only shaped the friends of their homeland, but also beyond, guesting on numerous international samplers, they became a significant part of these records and thus also better known in rhe world, hyvä näin! Until their first dissolution in 1988 they released four albums, a few tapes and some 7Inches. Resurrected in 2001 and since then, very active on vinyl and live. Twenty concise songs that refresh my brain and boost my good mood after such an exciting evening yesterday and warmly welcome the approaching weekend. Enjoy!

RAJOITUS & UTANFÖRSKAPET - Livet Verkar Meningslöst Igen Split LP 2014

Extremely rough split 12Inch by two Swedish combos on Fight Back Records/P.P.P. Records/Turist I Tillvaron/Rawby Records and 500 copies were pressed. Rajoitus are from Borås, formed in 1992 and broke up in 2008. Founding members Jani (vocals) and Pete (guitar) wanted to make a band that sounded like old Finnish Hardcore and took on two other people Marko (guitar) and Wacker (drums). After a couple years Wacker moved away from town and in 1995 the band took Pena on drums and recorded their first demo Tuomittun Epäuskon Sortoon. They played their first show in the winter of 1996. They continued to play more out of town including Finland and re-released their demo as Hardcore Attack 1995 12Inch and the Historia Kussessa EP (1996). During a show in Finland Jakke from Kaaos saw them and offered them a record deal for the Nyt On Kuolema Täällä 7Inch (1998), before recording the album Wacker returned and replaced Pete on guitar. - Utanförskapet were founded in Hedemora and consisted of T.B. (vocals), Jimpa (guitars), Björn (bass), Tomas (drums) and their first vinyl is the Vildhjärta album from 2012, followed by a second one four years later. I think the band broke up after their last EP which came out five years ago, that's all. Choose your favourite!

SEKAANNUS - Kutsu EP 1985

Second self-released EP by the pioneers of Finnish anarcho-influenced hardcore punx Sekaannus from Virrat with three creaky pieces which recorded in August 1985 by Juha (vocals), Sami (guitar), Ari (bass), Hate (drums). The tempo was slowed down a bit on this record, but that doesn't make the songs boring, they continued this style consistently on their third 7Inch Eksyneet and I like that. One thing is certain, you can hear their sound on the train without hesitation and looking at the Zombies without running amok (that's relaxing for me because I'm present in this free theater almost every weekend). In 2021 came their last sign of life out, a re-release of this EP via Finnish Hardcore as 12Inch in a limited edition of 500 copies, 100 on semi-transparent blue vinyl, with the whole six song Kutsu demo.

RATTUS - Uskonto On Vaara 1984

Third "mini" album by Rattus, legendary Finnish hardcore punx which were formed 1978 in Vilppulaon, on Poko Records with nine short killers. Who could give a better review than Pushead himself, who also provided his art for the cover: "Rattus combustion, startling adrenaline speed and hammerhead blows of power. Featuring the new high-velocity rasping vocals of Annikki, they virtually sweep forth with sharp-edged earloads of riveting force and disorderly rapidity. Brilliant Finnish hardcore, unhesitant and explosive assaults of raw nitro energy." Pushead (MRR #7 • July/August 1983) - And that's exactly what it is, a furious album with little playing time. Numerous albums and singles also prove their creative passion in songwriting, let's generously ignore contributions to compilations, there are too many... and now: POGO!

APPENDIX - Top Of The Pops 1984

Hell Yeah, the first day of vacation and after a very long sleep and a short visit to my friend Januz at the weekly market, the blog is now getting down to business, with the second longplayer from Appendix from Pori which came out via Propaganda Records, licensed by the divine Cologne scum label Rock-O-RamaWho already likes the debut of the four will be intoxicated here as well. Fifteen fantastic catchy melodic songs, mostly under two minutes, in an appealing sound quality, Egoldt wasn't certainly at the knobs, still virtuosos at work; Mikki (vocals), Jaska (guitar), Tomi (bass) and Vesku (drums). Arto Hietikko from the Toinen Vaihtoehto Magazine wrote: "On the second album Top Of The Pops the band mixed catchy punk with hardcore, and the result was an overall fine album. Faster hardcore songs alternate with slower songs and there are even some post punk influences to be heard. The record was released by Rock-O-Rama and it didn't seem to get as much attention among Finnish punks as the first album. Appendix definitely had a sound of their own compared to other Finnish bands. In Finland, at least, everybody instantly knows what’s meant a band is said to be “Appendix influenced”. They might not have been as extreme, angry, or in-your-face but they are still very much liked among punks worldwide and will undoubtedly continue to find new listeners with new generations of punks in times to come. More recently, Appendix has reformed, doing their best to spoil their legacy on a series of new releases, all of which are mostly watered-down crap, but in their heyday the band surely put out some world top class songs & they undoubtedly deserve their place in the Finnish 80’s hardcore punk history."

V/A - Systeemi Ei Toimi EP 1982

Energetic, primitive and classic Finnish Hardcore/Punk compilation by the Tuotanto label with three combos, and in advance a short review: "Laahaus and Kaaos have four songs each that shred to the max. Really rad. Vapaa Pääsy, on the other hand, pale in comparison due to their wimpier sound", Tim Yohannan (MRR #3 • Nov/Dec 1982) Well, I like the record, because it does exactly what I expect; fast aggressive songs with pissed off singers who scream out the lyrics angrily. The typical sound that was created by many Finnish bands in the early eighties and still vibrates brilliantly today. Of the three, only Kaaos released a few albums, while the others only made it on compilations. 300 copies of the original EP were pressed, re-released 1990 and 2012. Massive and explosive mixture! 👍

V/A - Suomi-Ilmiö 1981

Now a rather unknown compilation that saw the light of day on Polarvox as cassette and vinyl in the early eighties and what do we discover? A decent mix of sixteen Finnish bands, whose spectrum ranges from punk, rock, new wave & powerpop and transports really good vibrations for my taste, including some classics from well-known bands such as Hassisen Kone, Ratsia or Vaavi and other likeable contemporaries (a little side note, song #13 from the Lizards is missing, I don't know how and where I lost it, if someone has it please send). As is "usual" with some Finnish samplers, apart from the relevant Punk/Hardcore records, I'm almost always convinced by the flexibility and mix of the different music styles which make such records mostly interesting for me and of course, the shot can backfire and the whole thing is a disaster, but not here. This slab is fun and relaxes your body like an escaping fart. Unfortunately no booklet, lyric sheet or other information attached, just a few details on the back cover but with an eye-catcher frontgirl (Yeah, a sexy pearl). That's it for today, enjoy the music and the sun!

1.Mörri Möykky - POPEDA
2.Rappiolla - HASSISEN KONE
3.Osat Hukassa - TYHJÄT PATTERIT

RIISTETYT - Nightmares In Darkness 1984

Classic and legendary Finnish hardcore punk, unbelievably rough and snotty, unmatched then as now and another personel favourite of Finnish bands: Riistetyt - Originally formed as Cadgers, the band was created 1981 and recorded one split 7" with Kaaos before changing their name, then played until 1985 and reunited in 1991 and have been active ever since. Their second album was licensed by Rock-O-Rama and I can tell you, it's overpriced these days, okay, the record is brilliant but it's crazy what some people want for it.... pure capitalism! Egal, the studio side contains songs in bloody English which work quite well. So far, Riistetyt have always been on the road in Finnish. The B-side is full with live material from the a set that they played on the aforementioned Puntala-Rock in 1983. Good sound quality and the band delivers. On this album are Lateri (vocals), Perry (guitars & bass on tracks: A1 to A8) and Piise (bass on tracks: B1 to B10), Jaska (drums on tracks: A1 to A8) and Stydy (drums on tracks: B1 to B10). The boys can be found on numerous compilations and their first album Valtion Vankina is a blast, re-upped for you, and if today would be Friday, I would say an absolutely perfect start to the weekend, but recommended even after a long, hard day's work. Let this crazy, wild & irresistible sound penetrating you!

MASSACRE - s/t LP 1985

Finnish three piece from Kuru, alive from 1984 - 1989, got back together 2006. On their rare debut at the start: Pete (vocals/guitars), Minnie (bass), Make (drums) and recorded for Propaganda Records, distributed by Rock-O-RamaIt is known that Finnish bands have a large following, fan base or at least enjoy a high status. From the far north of Europe comes great musical enjoyment in form of extreme hardcore, melodic ramonespunk, powerful punkrock and dark heavy metal, something for everyoneMassacre confirm this impressively with their eleven varied blasts. The record is hard to get and is all too often offered at overpriced Euronen, so enjoy every song as I do. Two more albums followed, four singles and lots of compilation contributions, some can be found in the blog. Great Stuff!

TERVEET KÄDET - Black God 1984

Want wild fast short loud songs? Now the opportunity has come: Terveet Kädet (Healthy Hands) were Finnish hardcore punx, the first in Finland and the band was founded in Tornio, January 1980 by Läjä (vocals), Tiimo (guitars), Piäsky (bass) and Peedro (drums). They have had a major influence on bands from all over the world, especially in Brazil (which some have claimed was because of a member from the leading band Olho Seco and his enthusiasm and connections to that country's scene). Max Cavalera of Sepultura and Soulfly has mentioned Terveet Kädet as one of his all-time favourite bands. The band's line-up changed several times, and the singer Veli-Matti "Läjä" Äijälä was the only permanent member. The four are guests on numerous compilations. Black God was released via Rock-O-Rama records with a studio and live side, twenty-one killers in just under seventeen minutes. Any questions?

SISTE DAGERS HELVETE - The Hell 1984

Fuckin' rainy today, first class blog weather and I'm digging out another classic record by Siste Dagers Helvete (freely translated Last Days In Hell) from Moss, just south of Oslo, and the band consisted of Oskari (vocals), Morten (guitars), Knut (bass), Rune (drums) and were active from 1981 to 1986 and their album "The Hell" had landed on Rock-O-Rama because the famous Finnish label Propaganda Records went bankrupt and H.E. grabbed with his greasy fatfingers for the masters, the band writes today: "[...] it was released without the band's approval, with wrong song titles, no royalties and worst of it all: the label did a radically different mix, destroying the master tape that originally had a depth and punch very unusual for a hardcore band at this time." Nevertheless are thirteen fast, catchy, irresestible smasher are left at its best. In 2010 appeared a splendid compilation called Hele Helvete 83-09 via Fysisk Format with all their recordings plus live material.

UNICEF - Käkimassaa EP 1983

"The circumstances under which Unicef was formed, as well as the later stages, are somewhat hazy. What is clear is that the founding members were Tino and Jonza. Tino played guitar, Fagey played bass and Jonza (who, at that time, used the name Danny Kaye) sang, and came up with the name for the band. This line-up probably played only one gig. The identity of the drummer is unclear, but among the people who played in Unicef before the later, better known line-up, were Eno, Pitkä, Rusina, Antsu, Hannu and Hippo. This EP was released in 1983 on Johanna Records and has three pretty nice punk böllers with an outstanding voice I would say. How the band came to end is also a bit hazy. The members are constantly changing and as Tino, Jonza and some other people from the Helsinki scene moved abroad, the story of Unicef was over. Only one single and the legend remained.(words by Mika) - Tino died in November 1995 after he fell from a scaffolding, Jonza died in April 2005 after he fell down stairs drunk. Find them as tasty fish snack on the essential Killed By Finnish Hardcore bootleg. V/A - Russia Bombs Finland 1982

The perfect sound for a Monday comes today from Finland, more precisely by Helsinki's Propaganda label (specializes mainly in Finnish hardcore, punk and much more) that gave birth to this fantastic compilation over thirty-seven years ago and has not lost any of its hardness and fresh sound in my opinion. All bands are likely known to every maniac of fast-paced short songs, you can find some records in the blog, and for those who want to discover this heart attack noises for themselves this record is an excellent start, I promiseAnd if you don't have enough of this plenty harsh stuff I recommend you the essential Killed By Finnish Hardcore compilation by Redrum Records... b.t.w. the first 500 copies came partly with booklet which I don't have.

V/A - Killed By Finnish Hardcore 2003

We travel far into the north of Europe to the land of 1000 lakes, dense forests and icy temperatures. Numerous famous hardcore/punk bands enriched us with terrific records and on this little compilation thirty of them are selected and was assembled by three American fans of Finnish Hardcore. "We did this out of our love of the music and to expose these records, which are not widely known outside of Finland to a wider audience. We would like to think we are helping expose these bands to a new geneartion of punx, making it possible for bands to re-issue more classic material. 2000 copies were pressed, comes with detailed info sheet". Thx for that and now enjoy raw, rare Hardcore 1981-1985.

RELEASE THE BATS - Ever Pleasant Smile... 1986

Say Hello to Saturday with a piece of Deathrock. Posted by Curious Guy eleven years ago on his phoenixhairpins blog and his comment on the record coincides with mine so I quote his words for this: "Release The Bats were a goth band from Bolton, members were D. Stephens, K. Taylor, M. Naylor and Rod Barker. Don't know much more but they released a 7" in 1985 with two tracks: 'Unacceptable Behaviour' & 'Harsh'. Both tracks can be found on the album. I won't say that this album is classic stuff but it's damn rare and worth a listen. For those who don't know, First Floor was a sublabel of the infamous Rock-O-Rama. This label started as a punklabel, releasing German punk and also licensed records off of Propaganda Records from Finland so that people had easier access to those classic Finnish hardcore punk records. But later the label also released records by Skrewdriver and other RAC/WP bands. Rock-O-Rama ceased all activity in the 90's after the police raided their office. I don't think that bands like Release The Bats, Saigon and They Must Be Russians were aware of the connection; or maybe they didn't care?" I was lucky to acquire this slab for little money, and musically not bad at all.

DESTRUCKTIONS - Vox Populi 1983

Ingenious Hardcore from Ulvila by Destrucktions, the four was founded in 1981 by Mike (vocals), Poko (guitars), Mixa (bass) and Jaakko (drums) and Vox Populi was recorded for Propaganda Records but is released via Rock-O-Rama in 1983. At that time Destrucktions had already split up, so that is the only record they have ever released. Compilations featuring the band at a few, one in this blog: Finnish Spunk/Hard Beat. Fifteen absolutely short kicking bombs with fierce sound which gives the band proper power and anger. Höhnie Records released 2007 a record named Complete Destrucktions with all their recordings plus rare demos in a gatefold sleeve with lyrics and band history, both in Finnish and English as well as some archive pictures which you can get via Melonville Hardcore blog. Fazit: first class twenty-five minutes of Finnish Hardcore!

NO SECURITY - 40-Talisterna EP 1987

Eskilstuna is located west of Stockholm and in 1985 No Security, a Swedish Hardcore/Punk band were formed in this little town. The band is widely regarded as one of the classic Hardcore/Punk bands in Sweden. The group's most famous member is Harri Mänty (vox) also been a member in the rock group Kent which were founded early 90s. Drummer Jari "Jallo" Lehto is currently working on Burning Heart Records and plays guitar in the band War Shot with people from Nasum and Totalitarian. Musically it works vigorously to the point, I don't understand a word from the texts, that's why a lyric-sheet is inside, raw & energetic. Great stuff for every HC maniac, so for me. The band released a couple of singles, mostly split EP's and two split albums with Doom and the finnish Valvontakomissio. In 1993 the band disappears from the scene. In the same year, the German label Lost & Found released a collection CD "When The Gist Is Sucked From The Fruit Of Welfare" with all the group's material. This slab is their second release and you're a fool if don't get it.
