MOLOTOW SODA - Keine Träume 1989

A real revelation is the debut of Molotow Soda on Day-Glo and the quartett has partly emerged from the ashes of the grandiose Canal Terror. A short bio of the beginning from their homepage: "In 1986, bassist Heiner from Bonn was offered the opportunity to appear on the Sampler Kulturschock Attacke 2 with a song from his band. The problem was that his band had just broken up. In order to take up the opportunity, he convinced musician friends to take part in the project and, together with Tommy (vocals), Volker (guitars) and Tommes (drums), the song “Just A Lie” was recorded in some semi-professional recording studio (actually it was more of a hobby cellar on the very edge of civilization). A little later, in a boozy gathering, the band name Molotow Soda was born, along with the drink of the same name (1 bottle of Blue Curacao, 1 bottle of eggnog, 1 bottle of rum and lots of lemon concentrate were mixed in a 5-liter canister) and, due to the pleasant “collaboration”, it was agreed that the band would continue." This album bites with every song and must infect everyone (if not, Fuck Off!), such fantastic lyrics (not nearly as obviously political as they were in the Canal Terror days, most of them still had a socially critical view), seventeen dynamic blasts and Tommy's characteristically distinctive voice is the crown to all and with a record like this, posting is fun again. Musically, they were clearly different from the rousing sound of most D-Punk bands at the time, they mastered their instruments excellently and remained true to the rough sound of the glory early days: hard & loud and always worth a visit live!

V/A - Beethovens Rache 1988

Bonn was the capital city of Germany a few years ago and it was time for a compilation with bands from Bonn and the label 'Bönnsche Ton' finally released it in 1988 (Another release have a green cover) and it has become a true gem. Eight bands in total and each song is a hit. FFF, Molotow Soda (Ex-Canal Terror), Rabatz to name a few are on it and some material is nowadays unreleased and thus rare. Today it's very difficult to get a copy and my vinyl here I have acquired at a record fair for a lot of money. Beethoven's Revenge is a solid German Punk sampler which can be proud of and my appreciation to the creators, nice artwork, detailed booklet, all included: Big One! In 2002 is one more record called 'Beethovens Alptraum' released with more stuff from the Bonn Punk scene. Long live Ludwig Van...

An excellent follow-up to Volume 1 is Kulturschock Attacke numero two on Broken Rollbrett Records and belongs for me to the most important D-Punk compilations like those by Weird System and AGRTwenty-two true nuggets are on here from bands that were either newly formed at the time and released their first recordings here, some only made it to a demo, others released some brilliant records (find them in this theater)Some songs are really exceptionally good, for example Result Of Boredom, Pestlilence, Silent Rate, F.O.H. or Catholic Sperms, whose songs are almost the highlights for me and which I would have believed had the potential for a great future in the Eighties. But the other musical outpourings are also worth listening to and I give these two volumes full marks; GREAT GERMAN NOISE ATTACK! Now I'm snipping four kilos of strawberries I've picked myself and in the afternoon there's the delicious SGE BurgerIs life great sometimes? HASS - ... Allein Genügt Nicht Mehr 1981

So that no one falls asleep, I pack out a classic. We look back in 1978, the year which Hass was founded by Steffi (vocals), Jan (bass), Hektor (guitars) and B.A.P. (drums) in Marl and they were known for their direct lyrics against everything that annoys us. First noises were banned on the grandiose Soundtracks Zum Untergang compilation and in 1981 they released their first EP, better known as Rocker (listen here), as self production and a few weeks later this brilliant debut album via H'art Musik with fourteen smasher follows on. A milestone of German subculture in my eyes: rough, brutal, honest & dirty, their best record. All in all they released nine albums and five EP's and on many compilations represent. Hass disbanded in 2001 but in November 2013 they announced their reunification and the last call was 2014 with the 'Kacktus' album on Aggressive Punk Produktionen and a tour through Germany rounded off the life of Hass intoxicating. I saw them live in 1990 or 1991 I think, in Frankfurt/Nibelungenschule with Molotow Soda and another local band and I remember this evening very well, it was cold like now and it was a highlight because cool gigs were rare in the 90s. Hass was and is still part of my grubby punk life, Thx!
