TOMMI STUMPFF - Zu Spät Ihr Scheißer 1982

In the beginning of the 80's, Tommi Stumpff was the singer of the Düsseldorf-based punk band der KFC, one of the most hated punkbands around. Born in Belgium, he got in contact with Belgian industrial and proto-EBM soon and started a solo-career in this field after Der KFC went defunct. From 1982 he went solo and released his debut album, "Zu Spät, Ihr Scheisser", which was pressed only in a quantity of 3.000 units, a result of the previous record company in bankruptcy barrier. In 1983 follows the single "Contergan Punk" on the specially founded label Giftplatten. The single was produced by Conny Plank and led the electro-punk sound of his debut consistently, but dropped out and had much harder because of their aggressiveness typical EBM structures. The hardness of "Contergan Punk" could, however, until the late 1980s once again be achieved. Above all, the 1989 released album "Ultra" is still regarded as an outstanding work. In 1993 he ended his musical career, he now works in the IT industry. Tommi Stumpff started 2007 to rehearse again. On 1st February 2008, in Düsseldorf a KFC-concert was held at a birthday party of Tommi Stumpff. He was ahead of his time with this sound and due to lacking success dropped being an active musician.

ARAM & DIE SCHAFFNER - Zieh Nur Alleine 7'' 1984

This rare record was released at Sneaky Pete Records and is the only output from Aram & Die Schaffner. The band were founded 1981 in Düsseldorf, a few members played later in Die Toten Hosen and Aram was kind of a rag-tag combo to make music at all and gigs they had not much, of course they did not long exist. But this little piece of vinyl is nowadays on top in the lists of the sought-after plates, and certainly pressed in a small edition. Musically we have two solid punk tracks with a typical touch of the Düsseldorf sound like Mittagspause, KFC, ZK or Fehlfarben. Peter Hein, singer of Fehlfarben, founded Sneaky Pete Records 1984 in his hometown of Düsseldorf after he left the band. Features of the publications was that Peter used the phone number of his friends as catalog numbers of his publications and most bands on his label come from the Düsseldorf scene around the Ratinger Hof. In the late 80's Peter closed the label. So this two mid-tempo rockers are delicious and they had the potential for more.... Mörder!!!! Mörder!!!!!!

NEONBABIES - s/t LP 1981

Ahhh.... fine stuff now from the Neonbabies: they came together at the beginning of 1979 in Berlin. Among its founding members were the sisters Inga Humpe ("DiLemma") and Annette Humpe ("Anita Spinetti"). The group made its first appearance in the spring of 1979 at the Gasthaus an der Havel and the gigs were the highlight of the concert season 1979/80. Later they were able to make their first recordings at the senate's own Beat Studio with Nikolaus (guitar), Conny (bass), Toni (drums) and Reinhard (saxophone). The first EP (I Don't Want To Loose You) came out early 1980 and includes a first version of the later Ideal killer Blaue Augen, in autumn then the 2nd EP Nervös. The band were now an integral part of the Berlin music scene and were worshiped as cult.

In early 1980, Annette Humpe founded the band Ideal and was replaced by singer Petra (Miko) but she was only heard on the debut album and this was released on the Berlin independent label Good Noise Records in 1981 and sold ca. 16.000 times, Nikolaus said: ''We were never ideologically defined. Good Noise said: we make the record with you - and then we signed a contract for a plate". The music is a cocktail of early german punk (KFC or S.Y.P.H.) and New Wave & Pop.

In 1982, Dave Hutchins produced the 2nd album (Harmlos) @ Conny Plank Studio which was released on Ariola Records, followed by a tour through Germany. After the quit of Nikolaus, he was replaced by Toni Kambiz, the group engaged Drafi Deutscher as producer of the 3rd 7Inch 'Ich Bin Ein Mann' but the sale was very much less, far far behind expectations. The last album '1983' was recorded with Gareth Jones in Berlin Hansa Studios and also appears at Ariola. A short time later, the group broke up. Conny left and Inga participated around the project DÖF which was produced by her sister and the single Codo became a great fuckin' hit! With Eiskalte Engel the last Neonbabies 7Inch was done and it was a remix of the title Engel from the 3rd album and was considered as farewell gift for the fans. Enjoy now fourteen crunchy poppy bubbles from album #1.

NICHTS - Made In Eile 1981

Underrated band from Düsseldorf who had a real hit with 'Radio' and were wrongly packed in the NDW drawer in my opinion and after two successful and one less album, the band split in 1983. Tobias learned drumming in 1978 as a founding member of KFC. When in January 1981 the first record Letzte Hoffnung was out it came to a conflict with Tommi Stumpff. Both left and founded Nichts with Andrea (vocals) and Chris (bass) and they recorded a demo which unleashed positive reactions so the independent label Schallmauer Records released their first record Made In EileThe song radio was particularly noticeable due to its earwig quality, so that Chris played it to the Bananas director Rolf Spinrads. This was enthusiastic and invited the band to record a video for the broadcast of 8 September 1981. Since it was clear that radio had the potential to a hit, the band and Schallmauer Records decided to decouple the song in time for the show with the major label CBS Records as a single. The Bananas broadcast made Nichts known nationwide and after seven months, 70.000 copies had already been sold, although due to poor distribution, the plate was difficult to obtain. Nichts went on a tour in Germany and returned to the studio to record their second album Tango 2000, they had offers from five major labels, which were played against each other, the contract finally won WEA Records in Hamburg, Schallmauer was involved as a production company in the contract.

In February 1982 the four went on a four-week tour of Germany, which had been booked by a professional concert agency (Blindfish) and the gigs were completely sold out. In Hamburg, before the club Uncle Pö with 800 left at the door remaining visitors to a police operation, so that larger halls had to be searched and the agency attached a mini tour through Austria and Switzerland. More gigs followed, now already in larger halls, these were partly sold out, as in Hamburg (Markthalle) several times. The 7'' Tango 2000 was decoupled, a tango-disco-parody with a concise, unmistakable tremolo guitar and this became the band's biggest hit. In summer 1982 it finally came to a break, band leader Michael left the band to start a solo career: "We actually had no big problem with each other. I was just driven to our chosen direction, and I wanted to do something different."

Andrea and Tobias decided to continue the band with two new members: Stephen, former guitarist of the Bochum band Bertha And Friends and Peter on bass. In the usual rapid pace a new album Aus dem Jenseits were recorde and released in January 1983. The band managed to recapture the Nichts sound despite the absence of Clauss' incisive guitar playing with the new members, but the album failed to match the band's great successes. A booked three-week tour of Germany had to be canceled due to an injury Brinks. The band broke up afterwards. What remains: catchy songs that still sound fresh and charming and remember, ten beers are sometimes too much.

MODERN ENTERTAINMENT - s/t EP 1980

Early post-punk wave band and I absolutely have no further information about them. What I know is that two band members went to Berlin an founded Exkurs and they released an Album in 1981 called 'Fakten Sind Terror'. This record here is assuredly the only Modern publication, released via Iron Curtain Records in two different sleeves. Two sets to their music: Minimal Wave sound mixed with snotty garage guitars that reminds me strongly of the legendary KFC (delicious) and with "Mutual Affections" is a terrific Killed By Death classic present. Even though the songs does not spray the '77 spirit but they still have charm and I really like all the four songs. It's simply completely different and a rare record. So reason enough to post it in this theater. What I'm talking about at all, you will be suck the music anyway.

V/A - Die Neue Tanzmusik Ist Da Da Da 1982

The first NDW sampler now and as you probably recognize, here are a few punk bands represented which have more less to do with traditional NDW music style. This record was created in collaboration with the German Cancer Society and a certain amount per purchase this plate went to those. A great thing! And I think that we have here a collection that shows how individual the early german music scene was and this demonstrated a knack for putting together different music styles on one album. I love such diversions (a little boring are the tracks from the Doraus & Palais Schaumburg but who give's a shit). Now it's up to you, brain or pleasure!

BILDSTÖRUNG - s/t LP 1981

Bildstörung saw the light of punk 1979 in Frankfurt/Main, influenced by bands such as Mittagspause, KFC or Male, but also of British mod and ska groups. Maybe Frankfurt's first punk band with German lyrics. Various gigs followed, mainly in the Rhine-Main area with other essential bands like Hans-A-Plast, ZK or Middle Class Fantasies. 1981 comes their first album with fourteen cool Punk songs out and in early 1982 start recording the second album, which is never released because the band dissolved shortly afterwards. In my opinion, now a classic one, even if the songs not much aggressive and they were put by the media into the NDW/Wave league, the label GeeBeeDee is not exactly famous for hard punkrock stuff, but this album is a contemporary relict of the early young age of punkrock in germany.

CO-AL 159 - s/t LP 1982

Never heard this band before and I'm always happy to come in touch with new stuff, especially when it comes from Germany. This band has been named after a car registration, presumably their license plate and I find this very originell. This nice idea is also reflected in their music because it comes up with a simple scrape sound which I call NDW punk or whatever, the guitars reminds me of the Düsseldorfer KFC and you know how great they were. In 1982 the members from Coburg published their only album on Rockport Records with twelve songs. Remarkable their cover versions of "Lemon Tree" and "Blue Suede Shoes". Everyone should listen to these wacky songs, really. CO-AL 159 were Carsten (drums), Clement (bass), Jörg and Kurt (guitars) and Marion and Alex (voices), and here ends my info. Well, what remains is another cool platte which shines with the two part-singing and simply minimalistic sound effects: Cult!

KUSCHELWEICH - Ich Küsse Dich 1981

As I rummaged in my record box today I found this gem from the 80's. I thought that I must rip the record as well because I've heard this a long time ago. So tepid as the band name might suggest the group was not for me, even if they were not as provocative as Hans-A-Plast, not as cocky as the KFC or quite as subversive as Slime. Kuschelweich offered laughter and factual stories of everyday life combined with simple punk and Poprhythms. Here & there a 'Schlager' (Azzuro is Azuroh, Silent Night/Tief In Der Nacht) or television melodies (Bonanza).

V/A - Bloodstains Across Germany 1998

I think it's a great choice to open a delicious beer on a Friday morning and present another Bloodstains killer compilation. Today to guest in the heart of Europe: Germany. The German punkscene has born numerous fantastic bands in their early days, which have released numerous essential records which still haven't lost nowadays none of their explosiveness and sharpness (a few examples in the blog). Politically, ironically, self-critically, cheekily, provocatively and of course anarchistically classics were recorded and in twenty-one classics immortalized on this slab. Und damit nicht genug; a second compi was made a short time later which I will post shortly. A nice intro from the back cover for you: "Achtung! you filthy punkrock scum. It's time for a new edition of the wonderfully sick Bloodstains records. This time we take you to scenic Germany, home of Auschwitz, Jägermeister and pretty peasant woman. Hard to believe, but there was a time when those Krauts were actually pushing something then schnitzel and beer." Funny or... let's go crazy, enjoy the music & have a sunny delicious weekend!
