H.D.Q. - Hung, Drawn & Quartered 1985

From Hendon/Sunderland came H.D.Q. and line-up on their debut were Pyley (vocals), Dick (guitars), Lainey (bass), Anth (drums), released via Endangered Musik and they developed into one of the UK's finest live bands as well as recording some killer tunes. Not surprisingly they have been criminally ignored by the stupid "Music Press" and this eight song classic is an excellent example of their power and dynamic, fantastic melodic tunes and anything but AmericanI still have to relax, because the weekend was too intense! Enjoy!

KALASHNIKOV - Subversion 1985

Danish four piece that were active in the mid Eighties and consisted of Charlotte (vocals), Henrik (guitars/vocals), Peter (bass/piano/vocals) and Carsten (drums/timpani/vocals). Some might remember them for the brilliant catchy song 'Schlüters Kabinet', their contribution to the P.E.A.C.E. Compilation from 1984 on R Radical RecordsAdded by two other fine pieces, their first EP, Laederhalse, was released on HUB Records the same year, fast paced protest Punk and a great example of the transitional moment from the early '80s anarcho/street Punk towards the sped-up energy of the thrashier Hardcore era that was waiting around the corner. The album came then the following year and was unfortunately a bit weaker than the 7Inch, despite Charlotte's appealing voice but you should find out for yourselfI guess, the band broke up in the same or the following year and in their very short life-span they at least wrote a memorable song.

GERMS - What We Do Is Secret 12'' 1981

Just a year after Crash’s suicide came this little legacy by the Germs, one of the best American Hardcore/Punk bands, via Slash Records and this delicate mini-album features all three songs from the Lexicon Devil EP, a Chuck Berry cover, an studio outtake plus two impressive live tracks which were recorded on December 3, 1980 at LA’s Starwood (four days before Darby's passing)Well there's not much to say, a fantastic record that depicts the band as they were: loud, messy and extremely overheated. After just a few minutes of pogo you're gasping for air and sight and you need something to drink right away or the show is over for you, and who wants to drop out after fifteen minutes? And if you need a decent encore, I recommend their only exclamation mark from 1979, but enter at own risk!

ALIEN SEX FIEND - The Singles 1983-1995

On the road since 1982 and still not tired, Alien Sex Fiend from London signed to the Cherry Red sub-label Anagram Records and releasing their first single 1983 and this nice Compilation features all 7Inches until 1995, and there are quite a few. But let me say this: You won't find all twenty-three songs in this file. The reason for this is, I prefer an audio CD and I can't get used with different mixes of a song either, I find it pointless. So there are fifteen songs left and I don't think more is needed and this selection definitely reflects the band's musical potential. Sounds that doesn't fit into any category and still evoke crazy vibes in me. Fazit: A good start for all newcomers, an entertaining listening pleasure for all connoisseurs! 👍

KONWENT A - Czerwień I Biel 2013

Interesting noises now by a combo, you should have on your radar: Konwent A a four piece which formed 1983 in Gdańsk and despite the fact that it existed for only four years, they were probably the first Polish Punkband whose trademark was a female singer. The musicians emigrated from Poland, and circa 2012 the core/founders of Konwent A, Żaneta (vocals) & Robert (guitars), met at Whetstone Music Studio in London and recorded their first album entitled Czerwień I Biel (Red & White), this contains almost all of Konwent’s biggest hits from the Eighties and is really another long-waited and brilliant debut of one more important band in the history of the Polish underground scene; Fourteen smasher with beautiful harmonious vocals (especially when both voices are active), breathtaking sound and damn fresh songs. This record is a real find, released via Jimmy Jazz Records in an edition of 512 copies, 200 on red vinyl. So buy a copy if you see one within reach.

V/A - Molde Punx Go Marching Out 2LP 2020

Fantastic re-release of this awesome tape which was originally released on Anathema Records in 1983 and how many of these were distributed is not ascertainable. It was time for a re-issue, and it's lovingly made by Cease Fire! in various limited versions. This double album features early Eighties bands from the small Norwegian town of Molde and some made it onto vinyl, others didn't even exist for four or five years. You can imagine what time and work such a project entails, and it was worth all the effort: the rough sound, the hearty music and the extensive booklet go hand in hand and make this a historical audio document of Norwegian subculture. Probably sold out long ago, but if you have the opportunity to get in touch with a copy, buy it... it's worth every penny! Strong Release!

V/A - Es Gibt Ein Leben Vor Dem Tod 1991

A record I ripped many years ago is this Benefit Compilation for "Rom e.V.", "Ausbildungswerkstatt in Managua" & "Angehörigenkonto" and the slab came with a sixteen-page booklet, which I didn't scan and to be honest, I'm not enthusiastic about the music. I was only interested in one song and that's why I buy the thing, the rest is alternative stuff which doesn't knock me off my chair, a reason to sell the record quickly and I haven't listened to it for a long time either. Some even offer them for horrendous prices, but convince yourself whether the record is worth these amounts. Certainly an important release and good to finance such benefit things with compis and it's nice that there are mostly new and unknown bands among them, that  combines the useful with the useful. Well, I'm sure there is something for almost everyone, except Hardcore fans will probably stay away from it, it's your turn.

TARGETS - Menschenjagd EP 1984

Second and final 7Inch by this short-lived Powerpunk three piece from Hamburg on Aggressive Rockproduktionen, both released shortly before their magnificient album, and all songs were recorded in the legendary Music-Lab Studios in Berlin, the guarantor for flawless productions in the Eighties. Three excellent pieces including a nice version of a German schlager classic. In 2017 a Compilation with both EP's & Outtakes was released on Colturshock, which is definitely worth buying.

SEX PISTOLS - Silly Thing 7'' 1979

Regulars in my theater and I'm still fascinated by this music, and this for over forty years! There are a few bands that leave such a consistent level and such a lasting impression on me and when you consider that the Pistols only made one official album it speaks for itself, even today everyone knows their music (even the fucked up society) and the four don't need a star on the Walk Of Fame (the name alone makes me puke) which stands for commercial losers and means nothing at all. This beauty offers really two fantastic songs by the Sex Pistols and it was the third 7Inch released in promotion of the film The Great Rock'N'Roll Swindle. Written by drummer Paul and guitarist Steve and recorded after the band's original lead singer left the band. The flip 'Who Killed Bambi?' was written and sung by Tenpole Tudor and is a brilliant one and I love his voice. The band is and will always be a global cultural phenomenon and push the Punk virus into innocent hearts.

CERESIT - Three Gallows 1985

Founded in Berlin 1981 as Ceresit '81, this is the only album by this five piece, Marcel (vocals/guitar), Sven (guitars), Daniel (bass), Marcus (keyboards), Ralf (drums) on ...Isn't That Cheating? Records. The first Demo, C90 tape, was released in 1984 and three songs from it were re-recorded and immortalized on the Let's Have More Fun Compilation on More Fun Records (1985) among other interesting D-punk combos that formed also in the early Eighties. A second part Fun's Not Dead came to light shortly after and again three songs were taken, why exact the same ones is not known. Well, the band then recorded their album in the legendary Music Lab Studio in Berlin and we know many splendid AGR records and this would have easily fit to the label. Remarkable is the use of keyboards, such as Razzia used on their second album, but Ceresit kept them more in the background, German and English lyrics, musically hard & solid D-Punk with a useful tempo. 👍
