U.K.SUBS - She's Not There EP 1979

Best bands ever, and that definitely includes the UK Subs, who have been tirelessly celebrating their driving Punkrock since 1976. This is their third single for Gem and the band's first cover version (She's Not There was recorded by the Zombies in 1964) and reached No. 36 in the U.K. charts. To that, three more crackers, including two non-album tracks and "Kicks" which found its way onto the second album Brand New Age. As many acts on the UK Punk/New Wave scene were either breaking up or going through creative transitions the Subs proved there is still a lively audience for their catchy sound. Enough blah blah, perfect music that I can enjoy anytime.

DEAD KENNEDYS - In God We Trust Inc. 12'' 1981

The hardest record by the Dead Kennedys, which certainly needs little review here. Famous songs, clear announcements, provocative and brute or as Ned Ragett from allmusic puts it briefly: "Arguably the sheer speed and lack of any subtlety throughout most of this eight-song EP means there's less to talk about in terms of deathless songs and more in the way of sheer breathless anger and rage." Even the album name is a punch to the American heart and the great cover, created by Winston Smith, reflects perfectly the emotional intensity and dissatisfaction of Jello & Co. in these days and makes this little mini-album one of the best the DK's made, in my opinion. A fucking explosion and who has heard this splendid music once will never be the same again. The Dead Kennedys are and will remain an icon of American Punk and are still my top favorites from the San Francisco Area.

V/A - Digging In Water 1987

The cover alone is worth buying this cute Compilation on Manic Ears Records & Children Of The Revolution Records and gives a brilliant impression of the slab's musical quality. Refreshing mixture of Hardcore/Punk with relevant bands that didn't have to be asked twice to be part of Digging In Water. And it's not uncontrolled thrashing, rather amazingly solid heavy melodic stuff by seventeen bands that can do that. "This album does a perfect job of summing up a scene, and is a collection of the hottest UK Hardcore bands..." Enough for today, enjoy the weekend and soon the ball will be rolling again.

OFFENSIVE HERBST 87 - OH 87 2LP 2004

Now very good early German Punkrock and we visit the province and end up in Verden, from there came Offensive Herbst 87, a three piece which existed only about three years and consisted of Rüdiger & Günter (vocals), Günter & Micha (guitar/bass), Rüdiger (drums). A rather under-appreciated band and never achieved the prominence of others at the time, but at least they made it onto the first Soundtracks Zum Untergang compilation and that means a lot. Two 7Inches and a few other sampler contributions are the legacy, and Phonomenal Schallplatten changed that eighteen years ago in form of this wonderful double album. Forty-eight crackers from various sources (demos, studio & live) from 1981-1982 await you, including a live set in a good sound quality that shows the band much more rougher than in the studio. Everything in a decent presentation, with all song infos, a small bio and lots of interesting pictures. A good history lesson from people who taught themselves Punk and are therefore inimitably authentic. Brilliant Stuff!

THE BUCKS - The Fun Out Of Depression 1983

Third album by the energetic Zurich three piece Bucks on Polygram and yes, the songs are longer and more playful/melodic than on their predecessors. But still interesting and, in my opinion, a completely unfairly underestimated band. Otherwise there's not much to tell today, I'm tired and listless. They've made six more albums and gigging live here & there, and I'll cheer myself up a little, forty degrees today.

MARILLION - @ Rundsporthalle, Baunatal 01.10.1983

Now a really awesome bootleg by Marillion and this concert was broadcasted back then on a cold December winter evening at the HR3 radio station and you can't imagine how fitting & great this for me was during this dark timesI was unhappily in love again and was looking for solace in music, this year the band's debut album came out, which immediately appealed to me and then, to top it all off, this transmission comes, better than winning the lottery. Screw love when you experience a moment like this. The sound quality is excellent and Fish tries really hard to present his German which works brilliantly and as it was obviously their first visit in this country and I think he has it mastered brilliantly and it's a pleasure to listen to. Last week my mind got stuck on this tape and to be honest I don't know when I last played a cassette but I searched for it on the net and it was published as 'German Script' and of course I grabbed it immediately and for all of you Marillion fans out there, here it is! Now enjoy eighty minutes of a fantastic performance.

ESQUELETOS - Radio 222 EP 1983

Before I get myself back to digitizing, and I'm looking forward to the slabs, first a short snack from Spain. A quick trip back to the early Eighties, the time when José (vocals/guitars) and Enrique (bass) formed the group RPM and recorded a demo that captured the interest of Hispavox, who recruited them for their alternative label Flush! Records. After changing their name to Esqueletos, they released their only 7Inch Radio 222 with three solid goodies that range from, I would say early NDW sound with an air of fast dirty Punkrock (last track), the approach to the mod revival of The Jam. However, Hispavox hardly promoted the record and the members opted for dissolution. Enrique becoming part of Las Ruedas, while José did the same in La Frontera, achieving great success during the 80s & 90s. That's it!

THE UNDERTONES - Downtown Radio 1978 EP 2018

Nice bootleg by Downtown Records and this 7Inch contains four fabulous 'lost' recordings by the Undertones which they recorded 1978. The Lost Peel Session is in parentheses and discogs says: "Not recorded on the BBC but funded by John Peel." Well, fans of the combo among you know the real story and I don't give a shit because all songs on here are bangers and might not even be released yet. Info: the Undertones were formed in Derry/Northern Ireland by Feargal (vocals), John & Damian (guitars), Michael (bass), Billy (drums) in 1975 and have enriched mankind to date with seven albums and numerous 7Inches, and are still a-live. You can follow their detailed biography on the www and I say goodbye to the weekend.

DIE QUIETSCHBOYS - Sonst Nix 1996

Today I dedicate myself to a band from my homebase Frankfurt/Main, local heroes so to speak, and one of the best cover bands from Hessen: Die Quietschboys and they were founded 1988 in Frankfurt-Sossenheim by Bernd & Käffi (vocals/guitars), Tom (bass), Hansi (drums) and play solid Comedy Rock (checkt out Flatsch!) with mostly Germanized versions in Hessian dialect of classics. In their early days they practiced hard in their basement to make the Hessian population happy with their music and they managed to collect a decent fan base during this time, which unfortunately didn't carry their equipment, but always made for good mood and much sense of humor. The band quickly increased their level of awareness in the Rhine-Main area, among other things through performances in the legendary Spritzehaus in Sachsenhausen, and accordingly in 1996 the Quietschboys released their first album, Sonst Nix, via Interscope Records. What is there to hear? Seventeen fresh & hard-hitting Gassenhauer, and I recommend grabbing a few chunks of German language out of your brain, it's worth... believe me 😊 to be continued!

STRAITJACKET - Demented Perverts 2021

Sweden's first Punkband? At least one of the earliest. Fact is, Straitjacket were founded in Gothenburg in the Seventies by Freddie (vocals), Aron (guitars), Gerth (guitars/keys), Gert (drums) and didn't manage to put anything on vinyl in their short lifespan (disbanded in 1978). Busy Bee Production searched the hiding places of the members and after more than forty years finally dug up a sizable collection of demos and a live recording of the last concert at the legendary Errol's club in 1978 and brought it to this compilation, 600 copies (200 on clear vinyl). Musically very interesting, the four do not offer the usual Swedish dirty Punkrock as we know it, I discover a touch of good 50/60's Rock & Roll and that makes the slab doubly attractive. The first four songs were recorded in a studio in the mid 78's and were supposed to appear as 7Inch, but unfortunately this failed due to numerous reasons, the live recordings are consistently wilder, rougher & more punkier then the rest and all in perfect quality. After the split, the members continued in bands like Liket Lever, Lädernunnan, Cortex and Blue For Two. Sad words at the end: Freddie died in June 2016 at the age of Sixty-Four. - Fazit: this stuff rocks properly and is a superb legacy of a band that hardly anyone knows.

- Great Thx to Fredrik -
