DOMESTIC BLISS - Child Battery EP 1980

A nugget from the Wanted-List and first I tell you that the B-side contains a different song but I post it anyway and hope someone can send me the missing one. Reason nevertheless the A-side, which is a strong three minute mid-tempo cracker with excellent lyrics and great guitar riffs, punkrock pur! Domestic Bliss were formed in 1978 out of ‘total boredom & despair’ in leafy rural Warwickshire in the heart of the Midlands by Darren (vocals & bass), Simon (guitar) and Jon (drums) and this is their only record on Woodbine St. Records. The three are hardly represented on compilations, except on Messthetics #103 which I took here for the flip. Who knows whether other unpublished treasures will be unearthed somewhere in an archive. Until then, that has to be enough.
Addendum: Now complete with original flip :))

CINECYDE - Tough Girls 7'' 1980

New year, new music and we will open 2020 with a nice litte one by Cinecyde from Detroit with their fourth 7Inch on Tremor Records. Most music enthusiasts aren’t aware that much of the Detroit punk movement of the late 1970s emerged from the suburbs rather than the city. Cinecyde came from The Oakland County city of Clawson. Much of the music of Cinecyde revolved around disgust for the current state of the music industry and their love for B movie horror films. Formed 1976 and on this record made music Gary (vocals), Jim (guitars), Clay (bass), Rodger (drums), four albums and five 7Inches were released. Both songs with great guitar riffs, crackin' garage sound and the flip is the winner for me. Go crazy folks!

SPLIFF - 85555 1982

One of my favorite NDW albums is the second by Spliff from Berlin which were active in the 1980s. The slab ran up and down and is still brilliant after almost forty years. The members were already playing together before they were 'adopted' by Nina Hagen when she came to West Germany in 1977. They recorded two albums with her as the Nina Hagen Band before continuing under the name Spliff when Hagen went solo. Their characteristic sound was a mix of electronic music, reggae and punk rock. They recorded The Spliff Radio Show in 1980, their only album in English. After parting ways with vocalist Alf Klimek, the remaining members carried on in German sharing vocals between all four of them. 85555 however was released in a limited English edition too. They had major hits on the German singles chart with "Carbonara" and "Deja Vu". Despite their influential status, the band was short-lived.

YODLER KILLERS - Jacot Masturbette 7'' 1979

Only slab by the the Yodler Killers from Geneva on Zaki Records and both songs were recorded by Alain (vocals), Fritz (guitars), Tony (bass) and Doctor Mengele (drums). "In 2015 came an exact reissue of the record out with a gloss laminated top quality flipback cover, original label artwork, as well as with a four page booklet insert! Top quality mastering, vinyl cutting and expensive Swiss virgin vinyl pressing. The A-Side plays with an endless groove – just like the original did too! Limited edition of 600 copies. Easily one of the very BEST Swiss Punk 45s ever recorded!", so the description of detourrecords which I like to quote. As a bonus, a live piece from the split CD with the BastardsAlso found on relevant KBD compilations. Enjoy!

WAZZO GHOTI - Gone Ghoting! 1989

This record is an is an absolute masterpiece and and stood for a long time on the wanted list, so I kept an eye out and was able to successfully buy the record, not cheap, but worth every damn cent. Fifteen magical new wave goodies, every song a hit and I thank the one who was looking for this too. A real asset! - A bit basic info from the great Up The Punks site: Formed sometime 1984 in Wellington by Chris (bass), Mark & Rex (guitars) and Bill (drums) as the first established line-up after initial contributions from Paul Watson and Murray on bass and drums. Wazzo Ghoti (pronounced ‘fish’) get their peculiar name courtesy of the peculiar semantics of the English language. The band’s first gig was at Cricketers Arms on the corner of Tory and Vivian street in 1986. A demo tape did the rounds of NZ student stations and in Wazzo Ghoti played regularly in the Wellington music scene. In 1987 Wazzo Ghoti had the Magnet included on the When The Wind Blows compilation of Wellington’s alternative music scene put out by Skank Attack’s Steve Cochrane on the Skank Records label. In March 1987 drummer Bill Morris was brutally assaulted in Wellington and was unable to continue in the band while recuperating. Wazzo Ghoti continued playing with Murray King, Pat McLaughlin and Andrew Downes stepping in on drums, and in late 1989 their debut album, Gone Ghoting!, was released. Dean Riley from fellow Wellington band #9 drummed for an 18 month period from late 1988, followed by a stint with Steve Cochrane. In 1993 a cassette EP, Coelacanth, was released and sometime after this Wazzo went into hiatus for twenty-six years before playing a reunion gig with original (and now recuperated) drummer Bill Morris, on March 16, 2019 to mark the release of a collected recordings CD Pronounced FishA record like a hurricane, a must have!

V/A - Ich Hack Mir Den Arm Ab! 2019

It's time again for rare German underground in this theatre and with Part VII is again a colorful mix of pop, rock, punk & new wave by bands that are largely unknown to me, some only represented on compilations, some with albums. First of all, my heartfelt thx to Reinhard for this fat package and I'm always happy to hear undiscovered Schmankerl from your rich treasure chest. The compilation's title is quickly told. Since Sunday I've been suffering from a fucking shoulder infection (left side), and as a left-handed person it is extremely difficult to carry out everyday routine movements, despite medicine that doesn't work, apart from the broken intervertebral discs, I shouted this sentence several times, it could hardly be more authentic. Shit Christmas, there's always something ... Well, music helps, and Part VI was a long time ago. A word about the cover, this is what a sign forest looks like when a bicycle path is renewed in this country, refreshingly gelle, such  stupid orderliness are only in our bureaucratic republic; they think we're all dumb. - Enjoy the days off and the music, Part VIII will come and now go in search of the previous nuggets.

SUBURBAN REPTILES - Megaton 7'' 1978

The Suburban Reptiles were formed by a handful of former and current Auckland University students anno 1977 and this, I think, is their first record on Vertigo with two great smasher, a delicious start to my vacation. That means the next three days here is pause and I'll be back on Tuesday. Info about the band is enough to find and I would recommend, the Killed By Death #15 gastroscopy, for more leg room in the interior.

DOG DETACHMENT - The Last Laugh 1983

Great debut by Dog Detachment from Johannesburg on Nitty Gritty Records which I like better than their second album. Ten magical melodic New Wave nuggets have they created that flood me with nostalgic feelings without losing power to nevertheless express powerful, slightly melancholic, their fears and emotions. Exactly my cup of tea! Check more Fathoms Of Fire and think carefully about who you give your last laugh to. Great record!
