Opinião Pública (Public Opinion) was a Portuguese mod punk band from Lisbon and were founded 1981 by Carlos (vocals), Pedro (guitars), Luís (bass + keyboards) and Carlos B. (drums) in the midst of Boom Do Rock Português; the wave of emerging Portuguese rock bands. With the most important combo, the grandiose band UHF, they had a special relationship. They played lots of concerts with UHF and singer António produced their only album. The recordings became possible after an excellent gig @ the band competition of the Festival Só Rock in Coimbra 1981. The group released one 7Inch (Puto Da Rua) & this album, both on Rotação. While the single, similar to UHF's early releases, showed strong influences from Punkrock & Powerpop was the spectrum of the album's songs broader, and included rock and new wave songs. They played more concerts, mostly in the Lisbon area, with bands like Xutos & Pontapés, Rock & Vários and UHF and others. Well, the album was not really successful so the band dissolved in 1982 and some members of the band continued as musicians, Luís plays later in the pop band Entre Aspas. What remains is a beautiful album with ten shallow powerpop nuggets which can help at lovesickness or other personal differences.

MARGINAL MAN - Identity 1984
Soon the Champions League is on T.V. but before, I wanna bring you closer to this brilliant record. Identity is the first release by Marginal Man from Washington, via Dischord, and they were founded by three members, Steve (vocals), Pete (guitars) and Mike (drums), of the recently defunct Artificial Peace. Andre (bass) and Kenny (guitars) completed 1983 the band. Marginal Man was one of the first DC hardcore bands to feature a two-guitar attack, as the original hardcore band member set-up featured a single guitar player. The band played together for five years and recorded this 12'' and two albums. They play a decent mid-tempo sound with really good emotional lyrics. I think my first touch with the band came with the very good Going Nowhere Slow compilation on Double A Records and 'Friend' is a first class song, since then I like the guys. On this slab are nine catchy outstanding goodies, lyric sheet enclosed and now soccer. - ENJOY!!
V/A - Really Fast Vol.1 1983
Further with an another essential compilation and I think from this serie exist ten volumes and of course we start with Volume Number One. Spoiled by the many KBD smashers here in this Blog goes this out to all speedy hardcore punks worldwide and it's hard to pick a favorite band. All tunes are great, no fuss it's pure impact. Released on Really Fast Records, 1600 copies pressed. Don't be afraid of Pogo and more Volumes will follow.

THE MARPLOTS - Front City Living 1986
One more rare piece of wax of German punk culture comes from the Marplots, active from 1984-1986 and formed by Fred (vocals + guitar), Max (guitar), Knut (bass) and Helmi (drums) in Berlin and about them is not really much known. Apart from the bass player, all band members originally came from Bavaria and moved to Berlin in early 1980. They are musically often compared with the Dutch hardcore punk band B.G.K. - Bombenterror (the song can be found on the great compilation Alter! Das Album) was the first record by the band with four nuggets and was released 1985 via the small Pogar label in a circulation of 900 copies. The album Front City Living followed one year later over the short-lived label Sasquatsch Wax Enterprises with fourteen excellent goodies and both records of the band are today sought collector objects. Enjoy this cool slab and to all German maniacs: I hope you give off your vote at today's lottery because attractive prizes are awarded.

BILDSTÖRUNG - s/t LP 1981
Bildstörung saw the light of punk 1979 in Frankfurt/Main, influenced by bands such as Mittagspause, KFC or Male, but also of British mod and ska groups. Maybe Frankfurt's first punk band with German lyrics. Various gigs followed, mainly in the Rhine-Main area with other essential bands like Hans-A-Plast, ZK or Middle Class Fantasies. 1981 comes their first album with fourteen cool Punk songs out and in early 1982 start recording the second album, which is never released because the band dissolved shortly afterwards. In my opinion, now a classic one, even if the songs not much aggressive and they were put by the media into the NDW/Wave league, the label GeeBeeDee is not exactly famous for hard punkrock stuff, but this album is a contemporary relict of the early young age of punkrock in germany.

THE PUNKLES - Drive My Car EP 2002
Two years after their successful debut Hamburg based punkers The Punkles (with Prollhead!/Nixon Now! members) recorded their second album called simply Punk!. To act as an appetizer Fanboy Records released this three song EP with two non-album tracks and with 'Hold My Hand' (originally performed by The Rutles) is, I think, the only non Beatles track which has the band ever recorded. I'm sure a lot of punk bands started or already has a Beatles song rehearsed because they are big songs and easy to play. I remember a combo here from Frankfurt, called The Beagles and they were absolutly funny and crazy guys, especially live (Hello Freaks!) but sadly they never made it on vinyl. So, the Punkles took this in finest Ramones tradition and they are a great party live band! Part tribute, part tongue-in-cheek, the Punkles don't just parody the Lennon & McCartney songbook, they breathe new life into it. Splendid!!!!!!
BÖLJA BOY - Masturbera 7'' 1978
The weather is sunny now and so I have here a funny rock post which was released by CBS (!!!) Records. About Bölja Boy I can't say much but little infos found. Fact is: two glam rock numbers with a punky touch on this 7Inch which are not bad and both kick quite good. I'll be damned if I know whether Bölja Boy have more records released, it might well be. It is entirely possible that they became a famous Rockband in Sweden or CBS dropped them and leave them like an old car, doesn't matter. This record is pretty good, with plenty of blood, sweat and tears. Just join in and sing along!

V/A - Killed By Death #12 1996
Das von den united fuckin' states fucking great music comes shows #12 of this rather unknown compilation series and Redrum Records, the label of the possessed, has banned twenty American classics on purple vinyl. The slab goes at the first tone offensive and keeps the level amazingly high to the last song. This volume is an ass kicker, a tsunami, an energy bundle of forty minutes wild, snotty, raw and catchy impacts. I can only recommend you buy this record and enjoy the sound in full volume, your neighbors will definitely invite you to the next barbecue party because they notice how cool you are. I think there are enough copys still available so get yours. A must have!

V/A - Neighbour Annoyer 2000
Another almost decent unofficial compilation with original Punkrock from the vaults 1977-1982 comes to the door. Sixteen powerpop/punk classics and the selected songs move from extremely cool to superfluous. I mean, a few fillers there which bother me so I sold this record without further ado. Well, who knows me knows what I need, I'm a spoiled bastard, haha... Pluspoints I give for the nice artwork with all the informations on the back. Naja, scheißegal, pull the slab in and decide for yourself and three points picked in Cologne, Yeah!!
