MEGADETH - Peace Sells...But Who's Buying? 1986

It's time for one more Metal goodie and we sail across the ocean to Los Angeles and visit Megadeth. This is their 2nd album and unfortunately I have this already flogged so this is also not my rip but I listen often to it in my long hair days, haha.... because it's a good one. Especially the title track and Black Friday have real power and in my opinion, one of the best recordings. A little info: The group was formed in 1983 by guitarist Dave Mustaine and bassist David Ellefson, shortly after Mustaine's dismissal from Metallica. That's it, read for yourself elsewhere. Important: they still active and bang their heads until it falls. I don't know whether it really makes sense to continue postin' more metal stuff, so most of my records are sold or somewhere and I will not publish any other rip. Hmmm, what you're thinking?

THE BUCKS - Brave & Stupid 1981

Well, I'm finished with re-upps of two Swiss bands so I could post an extra from the alp area now: After the split of Expo (ex-Nasal Boys) the two original members Rams (bass) and Päde (drums) formed the Bucks (inspired by the British female trio The Slits) and after constant touring they released their first record on Disctrade in 1981. Too many negative experiences in connection with the music industry (the band was under contract by Major CBS, who give them the clever name Expo - Nasal Boys was too offensive, haha..) were crucial for the band resolution in 1978. Not necessarily to describe the Bucks as frustration project, but one thing was clear: they wanted to avoid the market-strategic mechanisms and create their own style and the result is awesome punk'n'roll till you drop and their music and lyrics reflect what can be moved or be moving here and today. All in all they have released six albums and the Bucks still exist today!

JESUS COULDN'T DRUM - Er, ...Something About Cows 1985

Not really punky but Jesus Couldn't Drum play a decent new wave/synth-pop/experimental mix, band from the UK and I've acquired this record during my vacation in 1998 in Funen/Denmark in a cool record store called Moby Dick. I don't know why, but I never heard anything by the band and probably it was the cool band name and the funny cover which led me. Jesus Couldn't Drum consisted of two friends from Brighton, Peter "Pengwyn" Williams and Jonathan "Staines" Lemon and their main period of work stemmed from about 1984 to 1987 and both like humor and that album was a mixture of songs and "skits" (I think with "This Is Fun" is the shortest punk song ever written). Originally this piece of vinyl includes a flexi (500 copies) so don't buy one without and finally this album is really jolly good, mal was anderes oder....? Releaseed on Lost Moment Records.

EBBA GRÖN - Live EP 1978

Well here I have a short but cool bootleg from swedens punk veterans Ebba Grön. Four rough songs all in all in an acceptable sound quality and I wish I could hear more of that certainly famous gig. Zero information on the cover or labels, except that the recordings were taken on Jun 21, 1978 in Långholmsparken in Stockholm. I bought this little fucker for € 5, and again a good deal. So enjoy these awesome rare stuff and play it loud!

Mitnehmen!

- Big Thx to Reinhard -

SUPERVAMP - Ballroom Blitz 7'' 1988

Ballroom Blitz is a song written by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman and originally recorded by the British rock band Sweet (better known as The Sweet) and a lot of bands covered this sucker. Supervamp were formed 1988 in Vienna and they released their groovy version as single on JMS Records. They were originally a girl band, over the years came to three male musicians, their sound goes from rock over funk and there music was present in the Austrian radio. They toured through Austria, Germany and Russia. More is not known and I think this single is their only release. The b-side is an instrumental version. They disbanded in December 1992.

WANNSKRÆKK - Riff (1980-85) 1992

Punk band from Trondheim, founded in 1979. The band had a precursor in Chloroform and was founded by Per Christian "Persia" Iveland (bass) and Kjartan Kristiansen (guitar). These two put together the group, and got out to Per-Øyvind "Prepple" Houmb (vox) after having tried a different vocalist, Kare "Gisse» Olsen played drums, and Kaare Summer was at first as second guitarist aboard. Wannskrækk had their first gig at Angelltrøa Fritidsklubb in 1979 and in 1981 they recorded their legendary debut EP 'Faen Kuler Treffer Aldri Riktig' followed by the s/t 12'' one year later, two absolute punk blasts which gained a cult following. After years of touring and the very positive reviews in the press over the country the band, however, came to a provisional end. Then in 1988 they released a split album with Liliedugg which contains live songs and the sound goes more into rock style. The Norwegian punk and alternative label Oh No! Records released in 1992 this compilation which contains their first both releases plus a few live tracks.
And here it is: great '77 punk lullabies and you will love it!

V/A - Swiss Wave The Album 1980

All right folks, it's time for a compilation this month and let's move to the Swiss area and enjoy one of the first releases from Off Course Records and this is a decent mix of punk and powerpop. There exist many re-releases and you can read a lot of infos on the discogs page, which label, year, etc..... most of the songs appear on the bands album or 7Inches but these are the original recordings what makes this platte very rare, a good overview about the Swiss underground scene at that time. The label is one of my favourite Swiss one with lots of rare records nowadays. Volume 2 came three years later out on Astan Records, don't know this, someone?

ROSTOK VAMPIRES - Boring Old Fart EP 1990

Before I leave home a short visit in North Rhine-Westphalia and meet the Rostock Vampires, based in Dortmund already exist since the midst of the eighties. After several line-up-changes they started the new way at New Year's Day 1988 in West-Berlin. This second EP was released via Nuclear Blast Records and shines with three metallic punk rock tunes. This great band is relative unknown for many people and it is really a pity because their sound deserve more attention in my opinion. Check them out and I recommend their first album Transylvanian Disease, it's a real stunner.
