Nightmare was a hardcore punk band from Osaka, Japan and were founded in 1987. At that time the punk/hardcore/thrash scene explodes and there are heaps of bands around like Nightmare (Effigy, S.O.B. etc...) which start to play music; Check this little Nightmare discography for more records - Their sound based on traditional Japanese Hardcore with tones of heaviness. Unstoppable, no slow all go, just plain hardcore punk sound with no fills to make you bored, seven goodies on Selfish Records. Maybe a bit too crusty for most people but this first EP is worth checking out nonetheless.

ZYNTHSLAKT & THE PAST - 7 Låtars EP 1983
This rare split EP has to bands from Köping on it and their sound is clearly at home in catchy dirty fast punkrock.
Zynthslakt (Swedish for synth slaughter) was a band that started around 1982. Mikael Thörngren, who played drums, was impressed by the energy of bands like the Clash and the UK SUBS. Together with Per Granberg's twin brother John (guitar in Charta 77) Zynthslakt were born. Because it was expensive to make records, explored other bands to share the cost with. Result was the split single with N.O.S. The band released another split EP called 7 Låtars with with The Past. They played a lot outside Norrköping, Mikael remember once in Västerås they liked the band that just played on stage was so bad that they took over the instruments. But it did not get better because everyone was a little too round underfoot. In Kolsva they would play along with Kent Impotent. No one knows exactly what happened, but Zynthslakt never played. According to "Goofy" was the band members had to go home to Köping the evening. The album 'Spraya På En Vägg' came out 1984 on Rosa Honung Records. That same year the band folded. A posthumous EP 'Hit Med Stålarna' saw the light of the day in 1986 containing all the Zynthslakt tracks from the split singles. The track 'En Stad, En Bomb' was contributed to the 1983 cassette compilation 'Bara En Dröm'. 1993 Rosa Honung released another sampler containing the songs 'Religion Blood' and 'Land Of War'. The fact that some members were in the army, disbanded around 84-85. Then started the band J. Hex and the Scarecrows, which did not have much in common with Zynthslakt and its punk.
The Past started by the turn of the year 80-81 and consists of on Roger Andersson (drums), Pelle Hedblom (bass) and Linus Linder (guitars). Everybody was singing just to not hear who sung most false. Later Linus got to take over most of the singings. They started to play covers jut to learn how to play. Because no one in the band know how to take one single chord in the beginning. As fast as they got ready they started to write own songs with influences from bands like S.L.F., Sham 69, Sex Pistols a.o. 1983 they recorded their first record which was splitted with Zynthslakt, also a band from Köping. It was a 7-song EP sold in 1000 copies. Then they struggled on to get money to record a 7” which was supposed to be released on Birdskit, but the sound was damn bad so it was never released, but Birdskit sponsered them to record a MLP “In The Future With The Past” 1987, the single got to be included as a bonus with the first outgoings. Then they contibuted on “Swedish Stand” a compilation from the Indie labels in 1990. The Past still exists...
Great stuff from both which makes you hungry for more. ENJOY!!

DUESENJAEGER & COUNTDOWN TO ARMAGEDDON - Split 7'' 2014
Nice evening yesterday in Wiesbaden with my Friends from Klotzs, a band you're all waitin' for: 1, 2, 3, 4 Punkrock! Yes, that's Klotzs from Siegen, formed 1997 and they have released over the course of their existence a lot of singles, EP's, two full length albums, one 10'' and this megarare CD. How many of them were pressed is beyond my knowledge. Klotzs are absolutely D.I.Y. and come up with always something new, for example: the Angang EP has a wallpaper cover, the Schnür EP was corded with shoelaces, mostly in coloured vinyl and limited. Like EA80, they do their own thing and that's one more reason for me to buy their stuff. This Silberling comes from the presentation very chic and the CD here is a smaller three Inch one in a therefore specially manufactured packaging made of cardboard, of course with a few notes and lyrics and strictly limited. I'm sure they is sold out quickly. - At this point, my special thanks to iNgo for the great scans, Prost!!! - A few words to their sound. They make emotional noise punk, which is mostly fast, loud and agressive. Like a slap in the face. Inbetween then oscillates slightly a melancholy mood, which mainly through the voice of the singer and the thoughtful texts is generated. Try a sound clip on their MySpace site and maybe you get a stimulation or visit them at home. B.t.w., they toured a lot with EA80 and if you have the chance to watch both togehter you'd be a fool to miss this gig. One, Two, Three, Four...Punkrock!

CIRCLE JERKS - Live @ Fabrik/Hamburg 02.12.1987
Start today with a tape which I bought in Hamburg at a gig in 1990 I think. During my community service in Lüneburg I visit the second largest city in Germany because there was the action. The Fabrik is a cool location in Altona and I recommend you should have to go for a gig or something like that. A lot of good bands I saw there, Razzia, Dackelblut, Slime, etc... acute acoustic and always an excellent atmosphere. I think these recordings underline that a litte and let yourselves carry away. The Circle Jerks are one of my favourite US punk bands, always energetic and wild on stage. The sound quality is quite good and with over thirty-three songs, a decent mix of old classics and new songs, full with power and fun, ca. eighty minutes. Today Mr.Keith Morris toured with OFF! and you should stick your head in the sand if you didn't known. So I hope you like this post, was a small marathon for me (tape rippin' is truly a long mission).

STARSHOOTER - Mode 1979
Last for today and we stay in the 70s and visit France and meet Starshooter, started as a punk band in Lyon under the name "Les Scooters". They signed with a major in 1977, exceptional point for a french rock band. The first album was welcomed by radio stations (there was only 4 large band frequencies stations at this time, free FM radio stations didn't exist yet). On the two following LPs, Starshooter's powerful and catchy pop songs gave a general feeling of optimism. Proof of this is their second album, out on Pathé Records, with ten goodies. Now it's time to leave my safe home and say Hello! to the fuckin' cruel world and talk with useless people.
V/A - Raw Deal! 1977
Still in a good mood this morning I continue with this cute black round nice one early UK punk stuff on Raw Records: "Twelve "Punk" tracks pressed from the Raw Tapes recorded in the last year. All bar one previously unissued. Recorded at Spaceward Studios, except track A4 recorded live. Produced for "Wall of Noise" Productions. Dedicated to all small labels, who are in it for the fun and glory, not just for the money." Fantastic kbd sounds without failure, twelve songs in twenty-eight minutes. Punk77 says: "Barring the first Roxy live album this compilation just reeks of Punk rock snottiness, teen angst dreams and burning bright bands caught in an explosion of rawness and innocence before the business and new trends changed or killed them off. No band here made more than 2 singles; in fact only two of them even made singles!...."

POINTED STICKS - The Real Thing 7'' 1979
The Pointed Sticks are a Canadian punk rock band from the north of Vancouver and they were active from 1978 to 1981, reunited in 2006 to perform a few gigs and have remained together since then. They were the first Canadian band signed to Stiff Records, although the label was going through financial problems and never released an album by the band. The band are known for their fast melodic pop music and liberal use of harmony singing by all five members, also for unusual graphic images that acted as counterpoint to the music. So this is their 3rd on Quintessence Records and the flip is the better one. Anyway, I enjoy them.

CHAIN REACTION - Gabbie EP 1985
Chain Reaction was a group formed in 1982 in Bari and after some changes & some concerts the formation is stabilized with the arrival of Nicola De Marinis (guitar) & Guido De Stisi (drums). Between 1983 and 1984 they toured in many Italian cities, with the Youth Brigade for example, proposing nice hardcore beat and it was extremely successful; kollettivo in assets that had been created in the city, the group members were among the occupants of the space called 'Giungla' and unfortunately their only output is this record in 1985, released by Belfagor Records that contains six really angry pieces, voice screamed and fast-paced and relentless. The band disbanded in 1985.
