V/A - Epidemie 1990

I am not an expert in Eastern European punk rock except the bands of Poland and Yugoslavia which had some great bands in the 80's, but that's it!!! So yesterday I was lookin' on my hard drive and listen to some compilations and when I stuck on this record I thought WOW!!. This album was released on Multisonic and it's full with Pogopunk, nice mid-tempo numbers, also slower tracks which were also cool and I listen to it immediately twice, Big Surprise, really. Especially Zeleni Kanibalové is a grenade, finest murder guitars here and I promise no one can sit still, also the rest convinces with superb instruments, they all can play and I'm very impressed. 10 points out of 10!!!

V/A - Killed By Death 1989

With this record the Killed By Death (Motörhead 1984) serie is born and stands today for brilliant punkrock of the glory late 70s-early 80s days. Everyone knows today what is meant. This copy was released 500 times, later re-released without the Beastie Boys tracks. I guess, I'm not the only one who is grateful for this serie, and I think the makers have not thought it would so fuckin' bang in and become lots of followers. Sure, all these records are bootlegs and the bands never seen any royalties, you can think what you want, but I think it was a good idea because many bands don't exist or the members are out of sight. Anyway, ultimately offer the plates a fantastic overview of what was cool that time and the originals are long sold out and therefore a good thing. Well, let's see when there is a new release comin' along.

1.I Hate Music - THE MAD

V/A - Punk Live In Brouwershoeck 1982

Now a wonderful compilation from our neighbors. Side A is equipped with punkbands from the netherlands with one or two tracks & offer us how many cool bands the Netherland scene really had at that time. I myself am amazed how many brilliant bands were there at that time. Fast punk songs are interspersed with quieter numbers and the lyrics are criticized (Fuck the USA) as there's no tomorrow. Side B has a touch of pop. Not that the songs would be superfluous but they don't fit right if you have heard Side A. In any case the record is splendid and you should lend your ears. A pearl of punk history. Fairness sake, I must say that this is not my rip, got the sound a bit better and I hope you can still enjoy the album. Cheers!

V/A - Bloodstains Across Northern Ireland 1998

Rare to find is Volume I of the Northern Ireland Area and this record is more in a pop/mod taste as punk goodies. And this is damn cool stuff. I posted this on my old Blog and I remember there were still numerous downloads. Well, logo that I must do it again. Even more sound from the small tip of Ireland can find on Belfast Rock, which also kicks. This volume in the Bloodstains series is a definite stand-out.

V/A - Total Panne II 1996

The negative title of this rare compilation might some irritate but on it are only cool tracks. OK, a few a pretty crude and unpolished and I must laugh when I hear the lyrics but this is quite funny. The Slogan here is FUN!!! and Ziegenkopf Records is the predestined label for this...worldwide!!!. I think the songs are partly unpublished and some bands have released only on here. Mostly German bands, a healthy mix of Oi! and punk stuff, some live recordings. My favourites are Pöbel & Gesocks (classic Misfits cover of We Are 138), F.B.I., Daddy Memphis (always funny!!), Schultenbräute (all-girl band), Nothing But Puke and Genosse Rudi. So this record is definitely a must-have and a must-listen for any good punk rock maniac.

V/A - The Beerdrop Explodes 1983

A compilation which brings simply sunshine in your house. Released on Abstract Records this rare album proves once again how funny the english pub/oi!/punk scene was. Stuff what I really like here, full with different kind of music, punk/reggae/oi! and a bit folk (hä!). Remarkably the version of 'Rawhide' which I only know from Dead Kennedys, here in an accordion ride, quite delicious. The rest is consistently funny and this record is a good example to take life not too seriously. Have yourself a Whiskey, relax and listen while you are draining a big fart.

V/A - Wax Attack Vol.1 1998

A collection of rare punkrock. And yes it is. This unoffical release was pressed on Moonie Records and contains eight rare 7inches from the early years of punk by bands from Europe and Overseas. Meanwhile, the songs are almost everywhere in the www to find but the records barely. The selection is not bad, a solid mix of mid-tempo punk and a bit hard stuff and I like it. How many copies exist is unknown and unfortunately no information or scans with it and if someone has I would be grateful for an email. Overall, a decent record that I would buy.

V/A - First Offenders 1980

I continue my V/A posts this week with another juwel. This rare record features 14 bands of the Canterbury scene from 1980 and was released on Criminal Records. Most of the tracks here are very good powerpop, some of them bordering on good punk. The song selection is quite good, my favourites are The Ignerents, Longport Buzz and The Names, they are the punk goodies here. All songs (except the Longport Buzz which were released as a 7inch in 1980) are exclusive and so this album quickly became a sought-after collector's item, for good reason I think.

1.Fun - LONGPORT BUZZ
2.Living Underground - THE NAMES
3.Pied Piper - RED ROLL ON
4.I Wont Be There - THE IGNERENTS
5.No Flies On I - PURPLE HIPSTERS
6.No Emotion - THE FAST BREEDERS
7.Flying Saucers Rock'N'Roll - CREWSY FIXERS
8.All Over Town - THE RED SQUARES
9.Harbour Street - THE IGNERENTS
10.Wet Blanket - RED ROLL ON
11.Who Is He? - LONGPORT BUZZ
12.I'll Be Your Jet - THE NAMES
13.Grooving With The Famous Men - THE FAMOUS MEN
14.Stuck On You - PURPLE HIPSTERS

V/A - Year Of The Rats! 1988

Another damn cool record with massive rare stuff now: England Belongs To Me and Killed By Death and the Bloodstains series, all this compilations stand for rare & raw punkrock from the early glory days and this album as well. Released in a limited edition on black vinyl with green and black labels. Among the earliest entries into the punk reissue game, this comp has some now-standard classics and another of the original group of punk bootlegs compilations this one has become tough to find. Overall a very good LP, some of it (Urinals, Satans Rats) has since been reissued. Llygod Ffyrnig you can also likely find elsewhere. The Matt Gimmick tracks are originally Stooges tracks dating from 1970. Good luck finding a copy of this though. Some of the records comped on here are easier to find than the comp. Enjoy the following pearls:

1.Hot Wire My Heart - CRIME
2.Frustration - CRIME
3.I'm A Bug - URINALS
4.Ack Ack Ack - URINALS
5.Sex - URINALS
6.Time Enough For Love - FUN THINGS
7.When The Birdmen Fly - FUN THINGS
8.Waiting World - NEW CHRISTS
9.Burn My Eye (Live) - RADIO BIRDMAN
10.Year Of The Rats - SATANS RATS
11.In My Love For You - SATANS RATS
12.Pseudo Punk - O-LEVEL
13.N.C.B. - LLYGOD FYRNING
14.Rag - MATT GIMMICK
15.Ya Don't Call My Name - MATT GIMMICK
16.Hologram - URINALS

V/A - Wanna Buy A Bridge? 1980

Rough Trade, a British indie label founded by Geoff Travis, was rock's first successful collective and a strong supporter of the arty, left-leaning post-punk music that emerged in the aftermath of the Sex Pistols. This U.S. only compilation introduced Americans to some of the exciting, innovative music released by Rough Trade between 1977 and 1980. The collection's opening number is the closest to Pistols-era punk rock: "Alternative Ulster," a blistering Irish anthem recorded by Stiff Little Fingers. Next in the collection is Delta 5's "Mind Your Own Business," a 1979 recording that proves that abrasive, self-consciously ironic music can also be incredibly catchy; Other highlights include "Soldier Soldier," a protest punk song; the exuberant "Ain't You" by Kleenex, an all-female Swiss band that later changed its name to Liliput; the Pop Group's "We Are All Prostitutes," a chaotic punk-funk-disco political rant with distorted guitar, drums, saxophone, and cello; "Part Time Punks," a beguilingly amateurish name-dropping classic by T.V. Personalities; the Raincoats' remake of "Man Next Door"; a reggae number by Jamaican singer John Holt (whose "The Tide Is High" became a hit for Blondie); and Robert Wyatt's surprisingly haunting rendition of Chic's "At Last I Am Free." I had the LP with the brown cover but use the blue here. I'm too lazy to scan both sides of the original. Overall this may be the best single-album collection assembled of post-punk music.

1.Alternative Ulster - STIFF LITTLE FINGERS
2.Mind Your Own Business - DELTA 5
3.Man Next Door - THE SLITS
4.Aerosol Burns - ESSENTIAL LOGIC
