A perfect example how a band changed their music style and became boring are Struggler from Belgium. Founded in 1979, initially the group consisted of 5 members. After numerous changes in the line-up, the group became a threesome from 1988 onward. In 1980 they released their debut 7'' 'Wanted' on Doggy Doo Records in a limited edition and on it are two damn numbers. One of the best punk tunes from Belgium. Also catchy their 2nd release 'Night Fever' although they change more into a dark wave sound which is not bad. Then in 1982 the bands full length album "It Was A Very Long Conversation But At The End We Didn't Shake Hands" which you can get here, came out on Not So Brave VZW Records and they lost total their punk roots. And I find the album is an absolute disaster, dull and lifeless and without big highlights. Schade! Schade! Well at least their second single is a small peak of their classy music.

V/A - Die Tödliche Dosis 1981
The Austrian label 'Lustgewinn Schallplatten' (brilliant title) brought this fantastic, now very rare, compilation out to light in 1981 with mostly bands from Vienna. Melodic songs somewhere between raw KBD punk and experimental oblique-wave sound (A.K.G. and Molto Brutto). A truly explosive combination to me here because i like this diversity and variety very well. Noisy, snotty, and just plain charming. Just click over to Trash Rock Archives and you'll find more infos about bands/scene and songs of the 80's punk in Austria, in German language but very recommended. So enjoy this early classic stuff and i'm looking forward to your comments.

LUDWIG VON 88 & DIE MIMMI'S - Sardellenfilet EP 1989
One split post and here we have a collaboration by the french band Ludwig Von 88 & Die Mimmi's from Bremen/Germany. And this EP had it all. The title track is a pretty nice ska song and both bands act here together. Funny the title track "Sardellenfilet". I believe this song's about the miracle as Jesus got fed up with a few fish and bread over 1000 people. A strange thing...Song #2 is a speedy 3 accord number by the french band and the last is a cover of Neil Youngs "Sugar Mountain" played in a accoustic version (don't know the original) by the Mimmi's. At the end an excellent mix of different styles. Cool idea I think. Get it before it's too late...!
GORILLA ANGREB - @ WFMU Radio 14.03.2006
Gorilla Angreb was a punk band from Copenhagen, Denmark, stripped down to dueling male and female voices and hit-hard instruments. 12 Songs contains this amazing bootleg of catchy, whip-cracking punk rock. Gorilla Angreb exist from 1999 - 2007. Unfortunately, far too short in my opinion. Catch this unique document in an amazing sound quality. Get the full Gorilla Angreb Discography on DU. Big fat thanks to the ripper of this nice one.

ROEG TOEG - Stad & Plat EP 1981
With Roeg Toeg (Rough Harness) we come to a band from Groningen, unfortunately only this one EP was published on Beltoon Records. The band plays a solid punk rock sound with a rather quiet shallow way, you know, sometimes with an accordion or a saxophone as instruments and they do it very very well. Briefly I can say: KBD punk with Dutch/English lyrics. Also suitable for the HC freaks among you. Real honest :)
THE CURE - Arabian Dream 1985
Well, what should I write for The Cure? A band that everyone knows who is born in the 60ties and witnessed the early intensive days of the Wave/Punk time, as I do. An absolutely fantastic bootleg which has appeared on Duck Production in a small edition of 350 pieces. Unfortunately no information inside about where & when the songs were recorded but I think it was in 1981 or '82, this should certainly found out in the net or anybody leaves a voice in the comment section. What is certain is that this record is one of the best bootlegs that I know from the Cure, and there are quite a few. This is an excellent collection of Top Quality versions of these songs (especially the over 10 minute Faith). I really love this album and I can listen to over and over again.

MOSKWA - s/t LP 1989
Moskwa is a Polish punk-rock band and were formed in 1983 in the dirty, covered with smoke of the factory chimneys Polish town Lodz, a big legend of Polish underground, one of the most original and charismatic bands of the Eastern-Europe punkrock scene. Moskwa plays, as a newcomer, at the Rock Music Festival Jarocin (the biggest festival in Poland at that time). The band had an enthusiastic welcome and overnight became an insider tip in the Polish independent scene. After playin' lots of festivals they recorded their first LP and in March 1989, two years after being recorded, it cames out! Fast, loud & violent style and it's still a classic one. I heard the first Moskwa tunes on the Smelling Just Another Bad Breath Compilation which was released via Double A Records in 1986. So this post is the CD-Release from 2002 with tons of bonus cuts from their early works. So enjoy all 28 classic pearls.

UPSIDE - Nati Per Soffrire EP 1984
Another relic recovered, Upside is an Italian punk band, founded in the mid-eighties by Marco (vox), Vanny (guitar), Triton (bass), and Fonty (drums) and they recorded a demo in 1982 with ten songs. Then their first EP which was self-produced by the group in 1984. Here are four mid-tempo pissed off tracks, fast, snotty and in the best Italian tradition, with slowing pace and starts, Italian lyrics that talk about the repression of society and the hardships that they created. They already very skilled technically and they earned growing appreciation and many concerts followed. In 1990 they released on TVOR On Vinyl their debut LP Tristi Orizzonti and three years later their last 'Labirinti Della Menzogna ' then the band melt. Upside were also present on various compilations. This EP is their best record I think. A pinch of Oi!, Hardcore, a dirty sound, anti-establishment lyrics and finished is a simple statement. Fine Record!!!
A HEADS - Dying Man EP 1982 + Forgotten Hero EP 1983
Two great 7inches by this cool band from Warminster Wiltshire. Founding members were Jock (guitar), Mel (vox), Nigel (bass) and Andy (drums) and they released this two EP's and a track on the Wessex'82 compilation. You can get much more info at punkygibbon. Melodic punk rock with female vocals which differs significantly from the usual UK bands. Beautiful singalong parts in a heady mid-tempo rhythm. An album would definitely become another highlight in the English punk era. Six smasher!!!

GINGA RALE BAND - Wir Sind Uns Selbst Genug 7'' 1981
Founded in Salzburg/Austria 1977 as Ginger Ale Band. In 1979 the band featured in performances reinforced slide projectors and tape recordings. In 1980 the name was changed to Ginga Rale Band as well as the publication of their debut album 'Wir Bedauern'. The Dada experiment was an additional show expanded with several actors. In 1981, they were responsible for the music of the Salzburg Rock Opera production "Rock Dream" which is also documented on two singles. 1982 were Ginga Rale as the only non-Vienna-band on the "Körperteile/Teilkörper" sampler present. Before last album came out they painted nor the "Band" at the end off and renamed as Ginga Rale. Overall, this single is a solid mix of punk/krautrock and a little kinky style.
- Special Thanx to Reinhard -
