MAJOR ACCIDENT - Massacred Melodies 1982

Fourteen uncompromising melodic and fine-executed Oi! Punk tunes at a mid-tempo can be found on Major Accident's debut which was released via Step-Forward Records. Info: Formed in late 1977 in Darlington, legendary Punkers Major Accident were initially influenced by the Sex Pistols & the Clash. A very sad fate befell their early studio activities: both their first recording sessions in 1980, which was supposed to be their debut single (Terrorist Gang/War Boots) and the following one, which produced a completely mucked-up, unusable first edition of this LP, remained unreleased for years. It took until late 1982 for their first proper release to see the light of day: produced by Donkeys guitarist Neil Ferguson, their debut album Massacred Melodies finally came out on Step Forward, supported by a full UK tour with label-mates Chelsea. The distinctive 'Clockwork Orange' image (they were the first punk band to adopt the look from Kubrick's famous movie, which was banned in the UK at the time and impossible to see anywhere) and their song writing, by far more peculiar than the average UK82 Punk band, allowed them to grow a sizable following, and their classic sleeve artwork by Paul Dillon started appearing on the back of more than a few black leather jackets.

The band released their first single, "Mr Nobody", with Step-Forward Records before the release of their first studio LP. A UK tour supporting Chelsea helped promote the release of the record. They had UK Independent Chart hits with singles "Fight To Win" and "Leaders Of Tomorrow" (no. 19, featuring drummer Evo, formerly from the Angelic Upstarts and The Blood who went on to form Punk influenced thrash and speed metal NWOBHM band Warfare), followed by "Respectable" all released on the Flicknife Records label, as was the LP A Clockwork Legion, by which time the band's name had been shortened to "Accident". A live album, Tortured Tunes – the Official Bootleg, was released in 1984, reaching no. 24 on the Uk Independent Chart. Around this time the band appeared on BBC2 playing three songs live. American label Toxic Shock released a follow-up album ...Crazy! in 1985, just before the band split up.

Major Accident re-formed in 1996, once again using the full name rather than just "Accident". The re-formation was accompanied by a new studio album, The Ultimate High, released on We Bite Records, with a seven-inch single, Representation Not Reality, which was released in 1999 on Upstart Productions. The band's final release was a split album with Welsh street Punks Foreign Legion entitled Cry Of Legion. Live performances followed, including a night at New York's CBGB in 2001 with a "Clockwork Punk" theme. The band's activity was sharply curtailed when drummer Laze was involved in a motorcycle accident. They played their final gig around 2012.

2025-present Major Accident makes a return to the live performance scene playing a gig at the forum in Darlington.

Enough blah blah, check out the album and I'll get my ass into the kitchen and whip up a delicious meal.

V/A - Flicknife Records Punk Collection 1995

Let's move on to another compilation from the Punk Collectors Series from Anagram Records and this Volume is full with cool stuff. In addition to well-known bands, there are a few others represented here that put little on vinyl, but that makes this series so interesting. Flicknife Records started in October 1980 by Frenchy and Gina and the first release was the Mystere Fives No Message 7Inch in 1980 and the label is still active and holds on to the attitudes and beliefs that spurred Frenchy to start it. On this CD are the first songs from singles gathered that gave their best in the early days. Absolutely brilliant material and in two hours the SGE will follow versus Marseille, hope they win!

1.Shake Some Action - THE MYSTERE FIVES
2.Total Control - RED RAGE
3.Shell Shock - ERAZERHEAD
4.Waiting For The Man - CHARLIE HARPER
5.Teenager In Love - ERAZERHEAD
6.Do The Geek (Live) - ERAZERHEAD
7.Thatcher - AD NAUSEAM
8.Follow The Leader - THE SAINTS

MAJOR ACCIDENT - Clockwork Heroes 1994

I don't know what's going on, I'm always tired and somehow listless, probably because of the dreary season or something. I need a little bit of schunkel music now and I'll leave that to the leaders of the "Clockwork Punk" movement (a musical community whose look & lyrical themes were inspired by the stylish nihilism of the film A Clockwork Orangeof the early 80's: Major Accident from Darlington which originally formed 1977 by Paul (vocals), Dave (guitars), Con (bass), Stu (drums). It wasn't until the early '80s that they made its first demo recordings. Then they earned a record deal with the pioneering indie label Step Forward Records which releasing their debut album, Massacred Melodies, in 1982. After three albums unimpressive financial problems led to the band breaking up at the end of 1985. Major Accident came back 1996, once again using the full name rather than just "Accident". The result was the forth album The Ultimate High, released on We Bite Records. The band's final release came via DSS Records in 2001 and was a split sucker with Welsh combo Foreign Legion entitled Cry Of The Legion. They currently play just two or three concerts each year, so the rumors sayThis file features all of their A and B sides along with classic album cuts. Duty Stuff!

STREBERS - 7'' Collection 1985 - 1990

This is a little compilation full of 7inches by another awesome Swedish punk band which come over with a powerful and melodic sound and nobody can just go over here. They released a lot of 7inches and albums, and they present on a lot of compilations too and you can catch more in the net about them. Here's a bit info I would give: One of the classic swedish punkbands in the mid 80's. Influenced by bands like Asta Kask and in 1987 Micke from Asta Kask joined Strebers as a full member on guitar and vocals. Songs were conceived by drummer Johnny Rydh, who whistled melodies to guitarist Mikael "Ulke" Johansson. Johansson then in turn translated the harmonies to electric guitar. His distinctive guitar sound played a major role in Strebers' songs, which were a mix of punk rock and Swedish folk music, while Rydh wrote most of the lyrics. The band first split up in 1988, Rydh and Ulke then started the band Six Guns together with the bassplayer Ztikkan from Rojnes and Crystal Ocean. Before they changed the name back to Strebers in 1989 with the same line-up as they have had in Six Guns. Early in 1992 the drummer Johnny Rydh was killed in a car accident and the band then decided to quit. Ulke and Ztikkan later formed the even more successful band Dia Psalma. Strebers reunited in 2000 for a gig at the Birdnest-anniversary in Köping. They also made a reunion-tour in 2001 and played at the Hultsfred-festival in 2003. This little file contains the Ung & Arg! EP ('85), På Liv & Död EP ('86), Mitt Blood EP ('88), Flickan & Kråkan EP ('90) and the reissue Bad Boys...Behind Bars! EP from 1991 which has the same songs like the Mitt Blood EP but with different artwork. A lot of stuff also but the Strebers are quite brilliant and positive vibes are guaranteed.

THE RUDE KIDS - 7'' Collection 1978 - 1982

Long before Millencollin and The Hives spread the Swedish punk rock over all the world's continents, there were a bunch of rascals who took the aptly named The Rude Kids, one of the most classic swedish punkbands from the late 70's. The Rude Kids were a punk rock band from Hagsätra/Stockholm. Their first single 'Raggare Is A Bunch Of Motherfuckers', that they recorded themselves, was released by Polydor in 1978. Rude Kids was the first Swedish punk band to release a record trough a major record label. The single sold between 5000 and 6000 copies (compared to 600-700 copies for an average Sham 69 single). Tony Parsons named it "Single Of The Year". Polydor also released the single 'Stranglers' and the LP Safe Society. Their records got good reviews in the press. Rude Kids played in London a few times. Once they opened up for Madness (only realising at the gig that it was Madness, not Doctors of Madness) and were attacked by Skinheads in the audience. After they fled the stage the audience smashed up all the gear without realising they smashed up Madness' gear. In 1980, when Rude Kids signed with the record company Sonet, they had a more poppy sound compared to their earlier music. In 2002 Turbonegro performed a cover on the Rude Kids song 'Raggare...' at Hultsfredsfestivalen. Singer Böna was killed tragically in a car accident in 1982. That was more or less the end of the band. Musically they are a typical '77 punk band, loud guitars & huge hooks, they blow everything up against the wall, brilliant lyrics and awesome songs, I cannot stop listen to. Their last two singles are "a little" quiet and with a nice casio tone but equally brilliant. "We are the Rude Kids and we're made this record that we think you should listen to!" (Böna) - Absolutly!!! In this file you get all 7inches, all covers and overall 13 songs in 37 minutes of pure impact.
