FUN THINGS - Lipstick 7'' 1985

Two songs by the Fun Things from Brisbane which appeared on their highly acclaimed four track EP ("500 copies were pressed and is one of the most collectable artifacts from Australia's Punkrock era") in 1980, have been re-released by Sonics Records on this 7Inch. The Fun Things were a high school band and formed late Seventies during the heyday period of Punk by Brad (vocals/guitar/piano), Graeme (guitars), John (bass), Murray (drums). The four were a primary group behind Brisbane's second wave punk scene between 1978 and 1980. According to music historian, Ian McFarlane, Brisbane produced "some of the most anarchistic bands of the Australian punk rock era" and that it was a city nationally renowned for its ultra conservatism. After the Fun Things dissolved both Shepherd brothers eventually went on to subsequent bands. Popular guests on numerous essential compilations. Enjoy!

V/A - It Happened..But Nobody Noticed (Australian Underground 1976-1981) 1986

A brilliant collection is this unofficial release of some of the 45's released during Australia's most prolific independent era of 1976 to 1981. So pick this compilation and enjoy this awesome stuff from alotta great bands and alotta great music!

V/A - Year Of The Rats! 1988

Another damn cool record with massive rare stuff now: England Belongs To Me and Killed By Death and the Bloodstains series, all this compilations stand for rare & raw punkrock from the early glory days and this album as well. Released in a limited edition on black vinyl with green and black labels. Among the earliest entries into the punk reissue game, this comp has some now-standard classics and another of the original group of punk bootlegs compilations this one has become tough to find. Overall a very good LP, some of it (Urinals, Satans Rats) has since been reissued. Llygod Ffyrnig you can also likely find elsewhere. The Matt Gimmick tracks are originally Stooges tracks dating from 1970. Good luck finding a copy of this though. Some of the records comped on here are easier to find than the comp. Enjoy the following pearls:

1.Hot Wire My Heart - CRIME
2.Frustration - CRIME
3.I'm A Bug - URINALS
4.Ack Ack Ack - URINALS
5.Sex - URINALS
6.Time Enough For Love - FUN THINGS
7.When The Birdmen Fly - FUN THINGS
8.Waiting World - NEW CHRISTS
9.Burn My Eye (Live) - RADIO BIRDMAN
10.Year Of The Rats - SATANS RATS
11.In My Love For You - SATANS RATS
12.Pseudo Punk - O-LEVEL
13.N.C.B. - LLYGOD FYRNING
14.Rag - MATT GIMMICK
15.Ya Don't Call My Name - MATT GIMMICK
16.Hologram - URINALS

V/A - Bloodstains Across Australia 1998

Today I  kick off with rare punk stuff from down under and the Bloodstains comps have become a monster of their own and I think all releases are somewhere in the network available. The reason for this post is again the excellent rip and the complete artwork and finally, of course, the gifted music on it. Everyone's heard the classics by Razar, Victims, Rocks, Leftovers, News and Fun Things....all great bands, but they're on dozens of other compilations so it makes no sense including them here. Instead you'll get a taste of some killer Australian punk (previously uncompiled tracks) you might have missed.

1.Mystery - BODYSNATCHERS
2.Dance With The Führer - SKUNKS
3.Threats - YOUNG IDENTITIES
4.Police - PROLES
5.SS Brigade - PUBLIC EXECUTION
6.Alcoholic - THE PRESS
7.Fun - THOUGHT CRIMINALS
8.Run Amok - WRONG KIND OF STONE AGE
9.MultiNationals - VACANT LOT
10.Second Glance - SPUTNIKS
11.Guns & Guitars - JUST URBAIN
12.Standing By The Window - TACTICS
13.Pyramid Party - QUICK & THE DEAD
14.Is There Someone Out There? - Z-CARS
15.When I Watch TV - SECTION URBANE
16.Who Wants To March? - REJEX
17.Do The Manic - CHOSEN FEW

WIDOWS - Balls'N'Bollocks 2000

This Bootleg compilation is no longer in my closet, you probably suspect why. Anyway, this record contains the rare Overscrupulous EP, Wall Of Berlin EP (both released 1979), the Were Comin EP and their only full length Fun? from 1980 plus tracks which was recorded live @ Tavastia, Helsinki 25.5.1980. The Widows were formed in early 1970's by brothers T.B. Widow (vocals, bass) and Johnny Widow (guitar), after been influenced by bands like New York Dolls. It wasn't until 1975 that they got a permanent drummer as Rocky joined them. The first one, for Love Records, had been recorded in 1978, but for some reason wasn't released until May 1979. This delay didn't make the band happy, so they switched to Poko Rekords after that. Things didn't work out very well within the band: Rocky had had enough and left, and Jacky announced that if Kelloggs wouldn't be kicked out, he would leave. So Kelloggs was out, and new guitarist J. Blockhead, as well as drummer Archie, was in. This lineup recorded the Fun? album in 1980. However, the lineup changes hadn't improved things that much, and Widows started to fade out. The finishing blow came when Jacky was sentenced to jail. Widows, in essence, was disbanded. Still, they played one more gig in Lepakko, with Pete Malmi on vocals, and even visited studio (T.B., Johnny, Pete Malmi and Affe Forsman on drums), but the recordings were never released. (Info by Mika Saastamoinen). They are represented on numerous compilations. Excellent stuff in every way.

V/A - Raw Deal! 1977

Still in a good mood this morning I continue with this cute black round nice one early UK punk stuff on Raw Records: "Twelve "Punk" tracks pressed from the Raw Tapes recorded in the last year. All bar one previously unissued. Recorded at Spaceward Studios, except track A4 recorded live. Produced for "Wall of Noise" Productions. Dedicated to all small labels, who are in it for the fun and glory, not just for the money." Fantastic kbd sounds without failure, twelve songs in twenty-eight minutes. Punk77 says: "Barring the first Roxy live album this compilation just reeks of Punk rock snottiness, teen angst dreams and burning bright bands caught in an explosion of rawness and innocence before the business and new trends changed or killed them off. No band here made more than 2 singles; in fact only two of them even made singles!...."

V/A - Killed By Death British D.I.Y. - Vol.1 1998

I think it's the last KBD Compilation that's missing here and this slab isn't that bad as the title suggests. From Lo-Fi to decent songs, the range is amazingly diverse and anyone who likes things a bit easier will get their money's worth with this cutie. Liner Notes: "Hello & welcome to the newest installment of Killed By Death series. There is now so many, who knows for all of them? So we start over with #1 in an offshoot to pay tribute to all great British D.I.Y. bands from the late 70's & early 80's. Sure everyone to have recordings by SWELL MAPS & TVP'S, but how about the SODS & all the rest of most excellent sounds on this record? We start off with LONDON PX & their classic handclap singalong 'Orders' from '81. Next are two cuts from the fantastic EP 'Deadbeat Revival' by HORNSEY AT WAR which came out in 1979. The PETTICOATS do 'Normal', then it's the MUD HUTTERS with 'Water Torture' off their spazzed out 1979 EP, 'The Declaration'. My mother says they are to sound like Punk version of legendary Stardust cowboy. It's true! PURITAN GUITARS '£100 In 15 Minutes' from their 1980 handstamped Riverside label. The DISCO ZOMBIES did three 45ers I know of, all are to kill for. 'Drums Over London" was the 2nd one I found & was in amazing silscreened wraparound sleeve. The SODS end side one with their organ driven classic 'No Pictures' from 1979 on Stortbeat. FUN 4 were Scottish & drummer Steven Daly later was to be in Orange Juice. Why is this record dedicated to Simon Weisenthal. To much! Another Stortbeat band SPELLING MISSTEAKS follow with 'Popstar'. Do not confuse them w/New Zealand band of the same name. ONE GANG LOGIC ask the question 'Who Killed Sex'? It wasn't me. Maybe you? The ATOMS do the great & goofy 'Beatlejacket'. The wirdo sounds of 012 are next w/'Fish From Tahiti' which is on the Weird Noise comp on Fuck Off Records. SHOES THIS HIGH were from New Zealand not England but they were great. 'The Nose One' is the best from their rare EP. Were they British, they would have made many records for Step Forward. It's true! Now go out, buy fish & chips & bottles of lager & crank this the fuck up. It's great! Thanks to Spider for all help."  That should be enough to make the vinyl interesting and a second part is possible in the foreseeable future, maybe.

1.Orders - LONDON PX
2.Hornsey At War - HORNSEY AT WAR
3.U.C.2. Much 4 Me - HORNSEY AT WAR
4.Normal - PETTICOATS
5.Water Torture - MUD HUTTERS
6.100£ In 15 Minutes - PURITAN GUITARS
7.Drums Over London - DISCO ZOMBIES
8.No Pictures - THE SODS
9.Singin In The Shower - FUN 4
10.Pop Star - SPELLING MISSTEAKS
11.Who Killed Sex? - ONE GANG LOGIC
12.Beetlejacket - THE ATOMS
13.Fish From Tahiti - 012
14.The Nose One - SHOES THIS HIGH

FORD'S FUZZ INFERNO - Flog Yourself With Fuzz EP 2022

Bridging the gap between distorted garage-punk and early '80s hardcore, the super explosive second EP by this fuzzed-uit Dutch guitar-and-drums duo is certainly one of the most impressive releases of 2022. "Hans & Patrick are back with hard hitting, hi-energy Punkrock, recorded specially for your hungry ears! This time around all the songs are about super enjoyable things, like the apocalypse, mental health issues and Mr. Hans’ and Mr. Patrick’s favourite pastime, demolishing other people’s property. Have you ever done that? It’s great fun. You should really give it a try! But before you start smashing windows and kicking dents into cars, play these four songs as loud as possible. They will put you in the exact right mood!" And that's right folks; on this record they are more melodic, more playful and more mid-tempo, but still catchy and with the typical fuzz sound. I really like it and I can highly recommend this band to you, Ford's Fuzz Inferno is playing PunkRock and doesn't just talk about it and deniers will be executedTheir third strike will follow in April and a compilation CD with all Fuzzies is also being planned, so keep your eyes, ears and brains wide open. Two reviews: "They have kept the quality, with another collection of fast, catchy, melodic hardcore songs. Just need two things from the guys now, A full length album and some live shows in the UK!" (Issue Punkzine #117)

"A release with short high energy tracks in the Ford’s Fuzz Inferno punk tradition: unpolished DIY noisy punk rock’n’roll. It comes with a good sound quality and again with a simple white and black medieval artwork. Too bad it's over before you know it." (Out Of Step - Fanzine/Blog February 2022)

Your weekend's nice & with this EP it will be even more sweeter, ask your partner!

OUTRAGEOUS - s/t LP 1984

A Dutch band completely unknown to me, who made three albums in the 80s, everything on their own and the five-piece named Outrageous consisted of Eric (vocals), Ruud & Niall (guitars), Bardo (bass), Frank (drums) and more info is not available. What I found is this: "Eric quit the Nitwitz and joined this Amsterdam band. The band belonged (with the Boegies from 1982) to the pioneers in the field of playing fun punk. Their debut album was especially popular abroad. Jello Biafra hailed the album in the fanzine Maximum RockRoll." And this review: "Not a thrash album, but a good old-fashioned punk LP. Holland’s OUTRAGEOUS displays a fast, heavy, two-guitar punk attack with strong hooks on most of this record, but they also play occasional poppish ditties (like “Beziers”), rockabilly thangs (“British Bikes”), or thrashers (“Say Cheese”) to mix up the stew and keep things interesting. I found myself happily singing along with many of these tunes, which is as good a recommendation as most." (Jeff Bale, MRR #16, August 1984) - I think, they do their job very well and fourteen songs in just under thirty minutes provide relaxation.

V/A - British Underground 1977-1982 Vol.2

There are days I really like to sit at the computer and postin' some rare stuff, today is such a day, and let's come to the last cream on this coldy Sunday and it's an unoffical compilation from Chaos Wrecords, released in an edition of 700 hand-numbered copies (I think in 1994) and this fourteen British Underground pieces are certainly not the best of UK punk & wave goodies (in my opinion) but it's another piece of countless bootlegs (it's good that they exist) and the song selection is not bad. I cannot say how I came across this series but it was worth and I bought this record via ebay. I love English punk and with the Disco Zombies and Crisis are two of my favorite bands on it, so bring it on. Of course required Volume 1 and a total of three slabs of this mini-serie were released to date and the last one follows then in 2022. Now enjoy the rest weekend with beautiful music, cold beer and other intoxicating means + the sun.

3.Time Tunnel - ENGLISH SUBTITLES
4.Active Repetition - PRODUCT OF REASON

DIE MIMMI'S - Was'n Hier Los? 1984

Die Mimmi's were founded in 1982 after the dissolution of Dusseldorf punx ZK (Campino, Kuddel, both now Die Toten Hosen, and Isi, Panhandle Alks) by drummer Fabsi (Claus Fabian) in Bremen. Fabsi was the lead singer of the otherwise fully moved frequently from women existing band and the occupation. After Fabsi didn't found a label for the first 7'' "Deutscher Meister Wird Der SVW", he founded the Weser label, where it finally appeared in self-published, as well as all later Mimmi's albums. The debut album "Was'n Hier Los?" was released in 1984 and from that point on they belonged to the core of the German punk scene.

Meanwhile, the cast changed frequently. Professional commitments of the group members required that many concerts take place on weekends and short tours were about regularly put into the Christmas period. In the press because of the ZK's Song "Dosenbier" they were often counted for Fun-punk, a term that they felt themselves to be too superficial. Visit the Mimmi's at home for more info. The sixteen songs handle mostly from the strange thing called love and the little everyday things that happen in life as a Punk. In 1996, the Mimmi's broke up after internal strife and private blows. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Weser label in 2002 Fabsi and drummer Lars decided to revive the band and since then they are ravaging the German cowsheds. Want listen to more Mimmi’s?

THREATS - Politicians & Ministers 12'' 1982

Classic debut 12" on Rondelet Records by this four piece called Threats with six loud smasher. A short bio from ReverbNation where you can listen to more stuff: "They started of life in 1977 as the Reflectors. Just 4 local lads from Dalkeith in Midlothian Scotland who had a collective interest in Music.. Jim and Gogsy were next door neighbours from when they were born and grew up together. Early memories were a great interest in all things guitar based. The bands that they grew up with were the glam bands of the 1970's. It was all based on Rock'N'Roll with bags of fun thrown in for good measure. (That rings a bell). Slade, T-Rex, Sweet, Mud, you get the picture. Then there was an almighty bang in 1977. The appeal was instant and immediately the need to play music was stronger than ever." So if you like what you hear I recommend a click on bandcamp where you can listen to a fantastic live release from 2019, so check it out!

V/A - BG Hronika Vol.2 [Tape] 1990

I haven't forgotten, like so many other things, today part two of the very good BG Hronika tape series on U.P.C.. And again interesting bands, this time twelve, from former Yugoslavia. And as on Volume 1, there are rather unknown combos that conjure up decent music, some made it to vinyl releases, others unfortunately only on tape compis like this. Anyone who already likes the first effort and is friendly with Punk from the Balkans will definitely have fun here, varied and edgy, this small, probably only distributed locally, gives us another insight into the very active and innovative scene of this former socialist country, and some records by well-known bands are absolute classics today. The sound quality is acceptable and it goes without saying that I'll be adding part three in a few months. So far so good, later Bundesliga, important match in Berlin today.

1.Violent Age - MARSHAL'S KIDS
2.Jerry Built - MARSHAL'S KIDS

SOPHISTICATED BOOM BOOM - s/t LP 1982

From Büren came this Girlie-Pop-Punk band and this is their only record which was released by the well-known swiss label Off Course Records in 1982. The sound is here suported by Buzz, Netz and Pasquale from SOZZ. The band play a simple poppy sound with a few snotty numbers (Beat Girls). I must say that not all songs are burners and partly the whole album is a bit too lame for me but that's with all things I think a matter of taste. Fourteen songs unconcerned, cozy, bubbling with few highlights, fun and love of life (well, there comes better noises from Swiss). About the band so I can't say much but I think they broke up shortly after this release. Check this out for yourselfs!

DADDY★MEMPHIS & THE OIBERTS - Tu Nicht's Gut EP 1997

From Brühl came DaddyMemphis and he is around since the end of the Eighties and released one album Total Derb on his own label Ziegenkopf RecordsThe album is full of songs with sometimes not too serious lyrics about bourgeois small-mindedness and certainly drifting in the direction of Fun-Punk (I hate this category) but musically played decently and keep their sarcastic touch brilliantly. Unfortunately little noticed in the scene and after three more 7Inches he took a short break and came back and founded the Oiberts in ca. 1995 and the line-up consisted of Daddy (vocals/guitars), Reiner (guitars), Chris (bass), Tod (drums) and they made three albums, two 7Inches and since 2003 is silence. Daddy probably passed away in 2022, at least that's what I came across when I searched the net, but I'm not sure. Tu Nicht's Gut is a very good EP which came in different kinds of colored vinyl and has four catchy songs, including a great cover of Devo's 'Mongoloid', one of the best songs ever written in my opinion, plus three more interesting Gassenhauer, and even if the band name seems a bit strange and suggests bumpy music, I can only say positive things about the four and I like their sound, because a Punker life is exhausting enough.
