SPRAYS - Te Vere A Las Diez 7'' 1982

Great PowerPop mod single by the Sprays on Floy Y Nata Records with two excellent tunes. The band were Guilermo (vocals/guitar), Tony (bass) and Rodri (drums). It was recorded at the Moraleda Studios in Barcelona on October 28 and November 4 and 8 of that same year. The three play very simple catchy PowerPop with energetic rhythms heavily influenced by British bands and their music alternated with other styles such as ska and old Jamaican sound. In their live shows they captivated the audience with their exhilarating performance and a big festive party ensued with only positive vibes infecting the young people in every imaginable way. They didn't need anything else: a guitar, a bass and a drum kit to keep the audience's feet moving. Very smart, very delicious!

V/A - Planet Punk #3 2004

Planet Punk is/was another serie of selfmade compilations/revival from Chuck Warner’s Hyped2Death efforts, and before your requests for Volume 1 + 2 come, these are not available. The first appearances of this homework label in this theater have already been made through the Bad Teeth series and H2D is focused on early KBD slabs, sometimes worldwide, sometimes country-specific, and this Fucker is dedicated to rare European stuff. The exact year of publication is given by me, because I believe that it must have been generated at this time, of course I can be wrong, but that doesn't really matter, it is important that they exist and that people like Chuck make such treasures tangible and unforgettable, I am like him and as a regular reader of this blog you already got to know some nuggets from WDM RecordsWell, you can listen to thirty decent cool songs, most of them already on vinyl (click on the top left), but this compilation is just this kind of work that was cobbled with passion, a lot of time, heart & soul and deserves your respect and attention. Enjoy the delicate tones and Volume #4 is coming soon.

SINIESTRO TOTAL - Siniestro Total II (El Regreso) 1983

Second album by Siniestro Total from Vigo, recorded in October 1983 and released via DRO in November of that same year. Twenty-one mostly punk-heavy songs, with more versatility of the instruments which provide a lot more variety, and with the typical short show interludes the four keep the level consistently high and that you are welcome is shown by the sympathetic guy, Bob Hope, on the front cover, who greets you with a glass of milk. As with the first album, they still went from seriote politicking full of clichés and demagogies and were covered with grace, silly humor and Ramonian influence in parody and social satire. There is nothing wrong with the album, the music is crisp, the artwork is worth seeing, and twenty-one songs in good thirty-five minutes are promising. I think the weekend can start with that and what comes next will definitely keep the level in this theater or do you doubt it?

MCD - Bilboko Gaztetxean 1987

Decent debut album by MCD (Me Cago En Dios) on Discos Suicidas, recorded live @ Bilbo's Gaztetxe, January 1987 and I must first point out the outstanding sound quality and in this context I immediately have Slime's Pankehallen (released 1984) slab on my radar, which for me is by far the best live album of all time, the energy and power of these recordings remains unique to date, but Bilboko Gaztetxean is definitely at the top of this list. MCD was formed in Bilbao between 1978-1979 by Niko (bass) and his brother Bernar (drums) and with Bronkoki (voice) & Ruffus Fuck-Off (guitar) they entered the stage 1981 with VulpessIn the mid 80s, Niko & Rockan, with the help of Virgi and Bernar, recorded their only demo. The band doesn't gave many concerts, but it included scandals such as the Bilbao Carnival, where the group was "banned" from municipal concerts in their city; the band found its sound with the entry of Joakin in 1986 and finally they released their debut in January 1987. From then, with some line-up changes, it went very well for MCD, numerous albums and 7Inches were made and after their inactive break from 2004 to 2011 they're still active. So folks, in an hour the longed-for match against Bayern.

V/A - Rock Anti Mili 1988

Another great compilation, originally released as tape to support any facilities, occupied houses, etc... and finally reissued, and for the first time on vinyl, by El Lokal six years ago, motto: Rock Anti Mili! Not difficult to guess what the twenty-one, partly well-known, bands want and I think it's still a hot topic today, because who needs fucking orders, uniforms & armys? Little fat ugly types who can't satisfy their woman/man and don't know what "LIFE" means, types with massive inferiority complexes, unscrupulous industrial bastards, blah blah blah... I can name a lot more assholes, but let's leave that, the inculcation of such benefits has been substantially pioneered and influenced by our subculture; beautiful noises spread out from this record and I love the aggressiveness of Spanish bands and this wonderful slab has enough of them. Comes with lyric-sheet and cool artwork. ENJOY!!

1.Antimilitar - R.I.P.
2.Zure Soldaduska Ere Ez - TXORROMORRO

V/A - No More Borders EP 2012

Spicy snacks of well-known bands with a faster pace are in the house and on this little motherfucker they turn their 45BPM again and again. Originated in co-operation of numerous small international labels and pressed in an edition of 500 copies (a few coloured); plus an elaborate full color double sided artwork, with full lyrics insert. What's inside?: ripping thrash, strong hooks, with a musical standard which is almost uniformly high. I don't know whether these are exclusive tracks, but all four songs can be used at any dance event. A good opportunity, for those who are not very familiar with them, to discover four hot bands. Entertaining, Chapeau!

1.2012 - The End Of Everything - MDC
2.Ciao Cavaliere - SÖM-HI NÖISE
3.Tired And Furious - RAW POWER
4.Fuck Shit Up - NAKED AGRESSION

SINIESTRO TOTAL - ¿Cuándo Se Come Aquí? 1982

A band that I've been focusing on for a long time but never managed to post, but thanks to Fredrik, now with their debut album. Siniestro Total (meaning literally 'total write-off' as in the insurance term for a vehicle that is beyond repair following a motor accident) is a Galician punk rock group from Vigo, Spain. Founded in 1981 during the cultural movement called Movida viguesa by Julián Hernández, Alberto Torrado and Miguel Costas. After many changes in personnel, current members are Julián Hernández, Javier Soto, Óscar G. Avendaño, Ángel González and Jorge Beltrán. Their first album, ¿Cuándo se come aquí? (When Do We Eat?), features fifteen short songs, with a marked punk style. Soon their first concert in Madrid arrives, at the Marquee, with borrowed equipment. They play two days in a row, thanks to the support of Ordovás and the great acceptance of his songs there is a huge stir. In this regard, Julián affirms in Ordovás's book “Apocalypse with Grelos” (Antonio de Miguel, 1994) that “there was a mess and there were some terrifying hosts. A poor hippie, with long hair and beards, who was jumping in the middle of the room, they put a hand of hosts when we sang 'Matar Jipis En Las Cíes'”. It is then when DRO enters the scene and Servando Carballar (Aviador Dro) that he decides to record their first EP for them. Everything was so amateurish at the time that they didn't even sign a contract. They just agreed and celebrated at the bar next door. More than 5000 copies of his debut, “Ayudando A Los Enfermos” (DRO, 1982) were released. A few months later the first album was released, ¿Cuándo se Come Aquí? (DRO, 1982), recorded in just three days with an eight track. The one that was put together was even bigger. The first edition sells out after a few days and DRO cannot keep up with the demand. The repercussion of the band is increasing, and everything increases with the presentation in the Rockola on 10. January 1983. Since then they have released countless singles & albums, compilation contributions and are still alive.

TOREROS AFTER OLÉ - Grabaciones RNE 1984 12'' 2011

We stay in the warm flow and visit the Iberian Peninsula and meet excellent music by Toreros After Olé, a three piece from Madrid that worked in the early 1980s, created around the figure of Manolo Malou (vocals/guitar), accompanied with Enrique (bass) & Jorge (drums). While having little impact at the time, is their legacy: a 12Inch which was released 1983, a brilliant slab and since circa the mid-1990s, they are considered as pioneers of hc/punk in Spain. This rare 12Inch was posthumous via Radikal 1977/Rumble Records released and was recorded in 1984 at Spanish Public Radio (Radio Nacional De España) and 500 copies were pressed, 300 black vinyl, 200 in red. Well, these two records and fourteen songs, that's unfortunately all what this short-lived band managed to create.

Info: Little is known about the activity of this group. Their name already appeared, as Toreros, in 1982 within a list of various groups promoted by the Pancoca distributor that appeared in magazines of the time, but there seems to be no record of concerts and other activities of the group, which is why, when their only album was published, in a fanzine they called the group, probably unfairly, a "prefabricated and rotten product". The only certain data known is the date of the recording of the only slab, which took place in Amsterdam in May 1983. The EP, untitled, although sometimes named after the first song, Porom Pom Pero, was released by the label Nuevos Medios at the end of summer or early autumn of the same year, containing seven powerful songs. In this, as in the rest of the songs, the influence, unusual in the national punk of the moment, of American hardcore punk groups, and in particular Circle Jerks, is perceived. The songs are very elaborate in its composition, and executed with great professionalism, something also unusual in the Iberian punk of 1983 and in 1984 the band split up. This is just a small excerpt and more of the three on compilations, two of them on the blog. Solid Stuff, Enjoy!

ZARAMA - Gaua Apurtu Arte 1985

Second record by this Basque Country band from Santurze on Discos Suicidas and they're part of the Basque Radical Rock genre. And again they recorded thirteen decent songs on their second album with good speed, joy of playing; the only drawback: seems a little powerless, probably due to the lazy production (the year before it was flawless on Indarrez (Por La Fuerza). Anyway, definitely worth hearing and since I don't feel like it anymore, that's it for today in this theater. I need a cooling-off as well because today again over thirty degrees and that sucks older men like me...

TDK & PBNSK - Split EP 1984

Before I watch the soccer match SGE vs. Schalke 04 a quick post by two combos from the Iberian Peninsula, released via π Musikra RecordsFirst PBNSK (Bakery Pastries Our Lady of Karmen) and TDK (Terrorism, Destruction & Kaos), both from Madrid and pioneers of hardcore punk in Spain. The A-side starts with P.B.N.S.K. and their two songs. These two are the only known songs released by them. Little else is known about the group, beyond its pioneering state in punk and hardcore. Its membership was Lanaquera Paco, who later became part of TDK replacing Manolo Uvi. The original lineup constituted: Oscar Lanaquera (voice), Lolo Lacruz (guitar), Paco Lanaquera (bass) and Paco Cameros (drums).
The vocalist on this record was, however, Manolo "Masacre" (alias "Fan Del Caos"). Other group members were once Pepe Arriols (Pepe Punk) and Toni, who were also part of the group III Guerra Mundial. The B side contains two issues by TDK, "Israel" and "Interrogation". Both songs appeared on later albums of the band. TDK was formed in 1984 after the separation of Espasmódicos, José Siemens, Magüu Plarte and Alfonso Cronopio. They recorded a demo in the studio of Felix Arribas (Pekenikes) and in 1985 the first 12'' Esto Es Una Empresa Capitalista which is a fantastic record. Four albums followed, lots of 7inch and after the release of the 4th album the band broke up in 1989. The split was released in 1984 and was reissued in 2005 by Radikal 1977 Records.
Just listen to this splendid furious smash in your face attack!!

RADIKAL HC - Venganza 1988

Solid debut by this three piece from the iberian peninsula and the band consisted of Panko (vocals/bass), Alvaro (guitars), Javi (drums) and the album was released on the legendary Spanish label Discos Suicidas and Radikal Hardcore play fast, no-frills pieces mixed with a few three minute numbers, but keeping the pace high and amazingly melodic. Also present on some compilations, one of them the famous Diez Años Discos Suicidas slab. The three count among the best from the Basque Country and five albums have been recorded so far and whether the band is still active is beyond my knowledge.

KANGRENA - Estoc De Pus 1984

First, good news: the Domestic Bliss 7'' is complete... well well!! Now music extreme by Kangrena from Barcelona. The quartet was formed in 1981 and consisted of Quoque (vocals), Kike (guitars), Johnny (bass), Manolo (drums), after releasing the legendary Terrorismo Sonoro EP and two cassettes recorded between 1983 and 1985, their activity was diluted in the second half of the 1980s. They were characterized not only by their love of noise and disorder on the musical level - already expressed in the title of their only album - but for the nihilistic mentality and destroy, which, in the middle of the decade, placed them a little on the margin of the hardcore scene of Barcelona, which generally tended to the anarcopunk activist and positive ideology. This is the re-release on B-Core Disc with twenty-two raw & blunt hardcore attacks.

CODIGO NEUROTICO - Humillación, Tortura Y Muerte 1991

Back to roots with finest catch mid-tempo punk by Codigo Neurotico from Terrassa with their second vinyl on Illa Records with fourteen loud short eruptions and a year earlier they made a cute little live tape on Estopi Records which was recorded summer 1988 in Bellvitge/Barcelona called Sin Pelos En La Lengua, within the file (uncut). Their first EP is also worth the download and you can find more information in the web. In 1998 the band broke up. And now into the weekend...

AVIADOR DRO - Alas Sobre El Mundo 1982

It's late and I have the perfect record for the last hour of this Thursday. I love their song on the Navidades Radioactivas compilation and on their debut are ten quiet melodic synth-pop numbers. Aviador Dro is an electronic combo from Madrid and were formed 1979 by Servando Carballar (keyboards), Arturo Lanz (vocals), Gabriel Riaza (bass) and Juan Carlos Sastre (guitars). They are the pioneers of electronic pop in Spain, in the wake of American bands like Devo, the Residents or the Kraftwerk and even invented the term tecno-pop, which they used in late 1979 to describe their music in interviews. The band has had several line-ups with their leader Biovac-N as the only remaining original member. From the first Aviador Dro lineup, a number of members split to form Esplendor Geometrico, with a more radical approach to music. Their more creative period was between 1980 and 1985. They founded label DRO to release their own provocative anthem, "Nuclear Si" as single. DRO was to become the most important independent label in Spain. In October 1982 they released their debut album, "Alas Sobre El Mundo", presented on the album cover itself as «A Fascinating Elepé Of The Aviator Dro». The themes of the album reflect their anti-systemic ideas and passion for science fiction and mythology. At the end of 1982 and after Julián Ruiz saw Aviador Dro performing in the golden room in Madrid, they decided to recording "Frequency Selector " in two dance versions + pushed the 12-inch forward.

The success of "Frequency Selector" provides a large number of performances throughout Spain. After a tour and again with Julián Ruiz at the controls of the production they record 1983 the 12'' "Amor Industrial", in clear reference to the theme "Computer Love" by Kraftwerk. On the B-side are more experimental topics included, produced by Jesús Gómez, such as "Arquitecto Acero" & "Envasados Al Vacío". By 2012, they have released thirteen albums and are probably still active.

ZARAMA - Indarrez (Por La Fuerza) 1984

Debut album by this combo from Spain on Discos Suicidas and Zarama were formed 1977 and band, spearheaded by Roberto Moso, got together at Santurze and combining for the first time punkrock and Basque language, a cultural mingling fraught with difficulties at the time. After its first steps during a period in which local punk music cohabited in the Basque Country with socio-political turmoil and violence, the band transitioned towards more sophisticated and cleaner sounds and more personal lyrics, especially after 1989. It made a comeback in 2009, following a hiatus of several years. By then, it had released five albums and two EPs. Indarrez was recorded by Roberto (vocals), Txus (guitars), Xabier (bass) and Ernesto (drums) and originally, the album was going to be recorded at the PAN BOT Studios, Bilbao, but given the little experience of the sound engineer with whom they worked, they desisted from that place. Soon, their producer Ángel Altolagirre, who also worked with Alaska and Dinarama, convinced them to go to the Tsunami Studios in San Sebastian. To be the first album of the group, the sound is very varied in terms of genres, ranging from punk, rock and new wave music of that time. Also on this album two songs were re-recorded: "Bildur Naiz" which was the group's first recorded song and "Zaramaren Erdian". It is worth mentioning that "Kazaia Kopa Eta Porno Gogorra" was reused on the basis of "Dena Niretzat", originally recorded in 1981.

COMMANDO 9MM - Commando 1990

Before football starts a visit a short visit to the Iberian peninsula. Their third album, simply titled Commando, was recorded in 1989 and come out at independent label called Tirana, owned by band manager Pito. In 1990, the CBS label was interested and published the same year the album with terrible consequences for the group, as Sony bought CBS and restructured the entire business, discarding everything that they were not interested. This album is currently out of print and very hard to find (discogs/ebay more than €140,-!!!!), because the record had a bad distribution. This fact and cause internal disagreements the band first split in 1991. This shows once more that the major labels are only profit oriented and thus the artist into a corner. Fuck Them!!! But apart from these asses Commando 9MM have ignited with their third longplayer another atomic bomb. Already their debut Amor Frenopatico from 1986 lit at first time, tiptop melodic mid-tempo punk rock as I like and always listen in my car... wonderfully soothing. As well here appear eleven more pearls in this direction which I like almost better. The sound is better by miles and the goodies sound more mature. 'Camino Hacia La Ruina', 'Annie, Annie', 'Cuidado Con Los Lunes' or 'Chica Medicinal', 'Mi Amigo Jack' are songs for eternity and while I write these lines the record goes through for the third time. 100% addictive, honest! If this music's not infect you, you are definitely disturbed. Would be interested what you think. Salut!

V/A - Cultural Compost Pit! 1985

Pretty awesome tape from Mothra Productions with thirty five bands from around the world with huge tophits. Excellent selection I can only say!, a brilliant Hardcore Punk onslaught pulled by rare 7Inches and other secret sources with nice little info-sheet makes this an excellent stew with hot spices and bite-sized chunks, add a slice of rye bread and beer and it's done... but beware! breaks through well, so don't forget toilet paper.
