PURRKUR PILLNIKK - Tilf EP 1981

One of the most famous bands from Reykjavík and gladly guests in my theater are Purrkur Pillnikk ("Sleepy Chess-Player"), and this four piece consisted of Einar (vocals), Friðrik (guitar), Bragi (bass), Ásgeir (drums) and were one of the most productive bands in Icelandic music history, and in their life-span (18 months) they released three albums. Founded 1981 and the musical skills of all members were scarce but that changed quickly. The arrangement of the instruments was decided on the spot and since Einar was not considered suitable for any instrument, he was made to sing, in fact it is hardly possible to speak of singing on his part, but his vocal use was considered very special and he spoke or shouted much more than singing. The band's music was hard to define, although there was no doubt that it was Punkrock, but as far as a more detailed definition was concerned, one of the pop writers spoke of "manic neo-punk with jazz and funk influences" - and that describes their music. You can hear it clearly on their debut EP Tilf which features ten short songs with aggressive lyrics which was released via their self-founded Gramm label. Sometime in 1982 Purrkur Pillnikk split and an interesting CD compilation Í Augum Úti came out in 2001 with all recordings (except the Ekki En album, for whatever reason). Enjoy!

V/A - Rokk Í Reykjavík 2LP 1982

Rokk í Reykjavík was the soundtrack to the Icelandic TV documentary directed by Friðrik Þór Friðriksson during 1981-82 winter and released in 1982. The soundtrack, which was released in April 1982 as a double LP released through Hugrenningur, features the performances of several Icelandic bands of the post punk/New Wave scene. Bands such as Þeyr, Tappi Tíkarrass (a band led by singer Björk), Egó, Purrkur Pillnikk (with Einar Örn Benediktsson as the front-man), among others, were considered some of the most important bands at the moment, exclusively live material. Truly a fantastic time document of the early Iceland punk scene.

PURRKUR PILLNIKK - No Time To Think EP 1982

Further with more viking stuff here. Yet, the last release by these awesome punks from Iceland with four extremly weird cool songs. Again released via Gramm Records in 1982 and here on it the hymn 'Surprise' which is a short snotty punk track as a punk song should be and 'For Viewing', a rhythmic thunderhall number. And when i listen to the singer, I always think of volcanic eruptions. He's absolut brilliant. The use of a saxophone is also a highlight here. This was posted on WDR on May 2011 an maybe other stuff of Purrkur Pillnikk follows soon. It's sunny weather outside so i leave you with this today.

PURRKUR PILLNIKK - EhgjI En: 1981

A leap in the far north and we meet Purrkur Pillnikk, an amazing band from late punk era from Iceland. The band existed for eighteen months (1981–1982) and were very active, they released at least two albums and one live record and two EP's. The distinguishable character of the band were Einar Örn's howling and off-key singing and his lyrics that most often described very day-to-day things but with a lot of interwoven angst. Members of the band later found themselves in KUKL and 1986 in the Sugarcubes. The band toured Britain in fall 1982. This is their debut album on Gramm records with seventeen short crackers with simple guitar riffs which is fuckin' PERFECT!! Search this blog for more. And now two new records arrived and they wanna be digitized immediately... I Love Saturdays! - See you in Walhalla.

V/A - Nobody's Perfect EP 1986

One more rare record from my Wanted-List now. The first issue was released as Lasta-EP II by ST-Records in 1984 with different artwork and this here two years later on Leukemia Records. Musically, we are in Europe (except Bill Of Rights) and approaching a slightly aggressive sound that we all know as punkrock. I think the band names speak for themselves and every song is a typical representative of this genre: loud + rough + snappy! Each band puke in their natural language which I always enjoy, even if I don't understand a word. Four mid-tempo goodies and three short rapid heart attacks, what you want more? Probably appeared in small editions and hard to find... pull now!

1.I Miei Occhi - STIGMATHE
2.The Frontline - ZERO POINT
3.Efialtis - ADIEXODO
4.Paranoja - OPDAKI CIVILIZACIJE
5.Ekki En - PURRKUR PILLNIKK
6.C-9 - THE BILL OF RIGHTS
7.War Is Here - W.D.M.

V/A - 14 Years Ago [Ex-WildDevilRules Compilation] 2010

This bloody Fucker, as the title suggests, is created when my old blog was still active and that time I posted it under a different name, now fourteen years later I've changed a few songs and think it's become a bit better (the back cover is still the old). There were too many D-bands on it Compilation what I had already forgotten is, there are a lot of cover versions of my favorite D-Punk band from Mönchengladbach on it. True followers of this Blog know which combo I'm talking about, but the name isn't mentioned. Those who guess it will get a washing machine for free, hehe..... Most of the songs were released in the Eighties and pressed on rare various Compis and 7Inches and all are fucking cool! It is a speciality of mine to immortalize the best of them on such useless crap that you then listen to in the car, train, plane or wherever to boost your self-confidence. Well, at least that's my reason for creating such musical delights, no profit, no self-indulgence, only for the passion of Punkrock, the attitude to life, and that's why I'm happy to share it with you. So dear ones, my plane leaves in four hours and I hope, I come back. Cheers!
