SPLIFF - The Spliff Radio Show 1980

OK, just a few words about yesterday's K.O. of the German team: First; they deserve it, they never showed their form and the will to get the cup again. All three games were agonizing, they played timid and inhibited and as defending champion unworthy. Of course the criticism is loud again but I would not speak of a new beginning, Löw made mistakes, He should have taken more young fresh hungry players and should not nominate the two players who made this stupid photo with this dictator. Anyway, Leber geht weiter! and the WM continues. Now to the post and a record a record which I haven't heard for ages. Spliff was a New German Wave rock band, active in the 1980s. The members were already playing together before they were 'adopted' by Nina Hagen when she came to West Germany in 1977. They recorded two albums with her as the Nina Hagen Band before continuing under the name Spliff when Hagen went solo. Their characteristic sound was a mix of electronic music, reggae and punk rock. They recorded "The Spliff Radio Show" in 1980, their only album in English. After parting ways with vocalist Alf Klimek, the remaining members carried on in German sharing vocals between all four of them. Their album 85555 however was released in a limited English edition too, which is extremely rare. They had major hits on the German singles chart with Carbonara and Das Blech. Despite their influential status, the band was short-lived. Many of the musicians subsequently formed a band called Froon. The Other Ones was another offshoot band, which included Alf Klimek, who appeares on this album as Alf Klimax and I must say, this is their best record, sixteen solid punk rock songs, top lyrics, a few funny jingles in between and the euphoric Rock Is A Drug as coronation at the end.

THE PACK - King Of Kings 7″ 1979

In early 1978, Londoner Kirk Brandon joined the Torbay Punk band The Cane as bassist, which had been founded in 1977 by guitarist and singer Chris Skornia & drummer Simon Wright. Johnny Suede joined the band as lead guitarist. They decided to move to London, recorded three songs as a demo tape for concert promoters in a small recording studio in Torquay and moved into a house near Heathrow. At this point, the band's name was changed to The Pack Of Lies and Simon Wright was replaced by Scottish drummer Rab Fae Beith. The band's original line-up played a single gig in Torbay, then Skornia and Suede left. Suede went to the USA for a while and became Culture Club's first guitarist in early 1981. Kirk and Rab brought the two Canadian brothers Jonathan and Simon into the band, and the band name was shortened to The Pack at Simon Werner's suggestion. Kirk took over the vocals. The new band went to London's Gooseberry Sound Studios on August 8, 1978, four songs were recorded as a demo, a second concert (the first with the new line-up) took place in the Camden Film Cooperative. The fourth concert in London's Nashville Rooms on October 7, 1978 was filmed on Super 8 from the audience. In April 1979, The Pack released their first single Heathen/Brave New Soldiers on the band's own label S.S. Records. Due to conflicts with Brandon, drummer Rab left the band. He worked briefly with Patrik Fitzgerald and then joined The Wall. The new drummer was Canadian Jim Walker, who had previously played in Johnny Rotten's band Public Image Ltd. His first concert with The Pack took place on August 18, 1979 at the Electric Ballroom in London, on September 9, 1979 The Pack played as the opening act for the Nina Hagen Band at the Lyceum in London. A final single, King Of Kings, followed in November 1979 on Rough Trade Records, and on November 7, 1979 they played their last concert in front of a sold-out crowd at the 101 Club in Clapham. V/A - Du Redest Zuviel... Und Zu Leise 2022

Lange hat's gedauert, doch jetzt isser fertig: Part X der kleinen WDM Records Reihe mit rarem deutschen Underground, bereits im Dezember 2021 fertig gestellt doch die Coverfrage hat einige Zeit in Anspruch genommen, denn es soll ja schick und ansprechend sein, und das ist mir sehr gut gelungen wie ihr sehen könnt (da sende ich doch gleich einen hirnlosen Gruß raus). Zuerst einmal meinen respektvollen Dank an Mr. Reinhard, meine Ösi-Connection die mich seit vielen vielen Jahren mit erstklassigen Stoff versorgt und nicht müde wird, dies auch weiterhin fort zu setzen. All diese Compilations wären ohne Ihn nicht möglich, danke hierfür mein Freund und irgendwann trinken wir mehrere Schoppen zusammen. Part X ist wieder voll mit raren Zeugs aus allen Genren deutscher Subkultur und besticht durch seine Vielfalt und Extravaganz von Bands die es hie & da zu einer 7Inch brachten, oder nur ein Demo oder Sampler Track veröffentlichten. Rock, Punk, New Wave, alles am Start und aus der Vielzahl der Stücke habe ich neunundzwanzig Nuggets zusammengestellt die essential, unentdeckt und gehört werden wollen. Ich bin sicher, Ihr werdet Gefallen an der Auswahl haben und das Warten auf Part XI  wird sich lohnen (vorherige Parts sollten online sein, müsst sie nur finden), dieser kommt dann im Herbst 2022. Wie immer ist ein Feedback von Euch gerne gesehen und ich hoffe, Ihr habt dementsprechend was auf der Pfanne, ansonsten genießt die folgenden 78 Minuten leckerer Delikatessen, die wie ein  Sommertag das Leben heller scheinen lassen. Und jetzt gehe ich ficken!

It took a long time, but now it's finished: Part X of the small WDM Records series with rare German underground, already finished in December 2021, but the artwork took some time, because it should be chic and appealing, and that's very well done in my opinion as you can see (I'll send out a brainless greeting right away). First of all, my respectful thanks to Mr. Reinhard, my Ösi-Connection, who has been providing me with first-class material for many, many years and never tires of continuing to do so. All these compilations would not be possible without him, thanks for that my friend and at some point we drink several pints together. Part X is again full of rare stuff from all genres of German subculture and impresses with its variety and extravagance of bands that made it to a 7Inch here and there, or just released only a demo or compilation track. Rock, Punk, New Wave, everything at the start and from the multitude of pieces I have put together twenty-nine nuggets that are essential, undiscovered and want to be heard. I'm sure you'll enjoy the selection and Part XI will be worth the wait (previous parts should be online, you have just to find them), and this one will come in autumn 2022. As always, feedback from you is welcome and I hope you have something in your pan, otherwise enjoy the following 78 minutes of spicy delicacies that make life shine brighter like a summer day.
