MASSMEDIA - Das Jazz 7'' + EP-EP-EP 1979

YEAH!!it's done, the SGE is in the cup final in Berlin vs fucking FCB and that will be extremely difficult to win. Anyway, next post: Massmedia was a classic punk band from Sundsvall/Västernorrland who recorded their first EP during Christmas 1978 at Torkhold, a bomb shelter @ Västermalms gymnasium which was also used for punk gigs in Sundsvall. In February 1979 they released their first 7Inch on their own label Massproduktion in a print run of 492 numbered copies and is now regarded as a fuckin' collector's item, even before they recorded the first EP Das Jazz/Jag Vill Inget on a memorable night in the damp rehearsal room togehter with Jan Zachrisson from Diestinct and still one of the most untamed Swedish records. The EP-EP-EP 7Inch follows this year and in 1980 comes the compilation EP with Massmedia, Vacum and Förbjudna Ljud called Sundsvallspunk Vol.1 out. After the delays that hit Sundsvallspunk EP & the Vacum EP they discovered the advantages of pressing in Sweden and under a few months a lot of local punk band released their debut slabs on Massproduktion. The last EP Ingen Hets (listen!) and their only full length Sista Ackordet (ca. 800 copies) were also released in 1980. Musically wild, chaotic, rough & pure impact. Classic Stuff!!

V/A - Andra Bränder 1981

Once more rare Swedish Punk Compilation which I have no further info. This record was released by Massproduktion and I like here the mix between punk, wave and ska and who or what is Andra Bänder??? Anyway, every song is quite cool and I have nothin' bad to add. The bands are unknown to me and I think these recordings here are their only vinyl cuts. Except the Picnic Boys released a split EP with Huvudtvätt in 1981 which can be found here. And what should I say?? You're certainly curious about this LP and I recommend to get this quick. Swedish Punk = HELL YEAH!!!!

V/A - Killed By Death #69 1997

Hui, I'm in a small beer inebriation and my body screams for food. OK, here's musical food with another superb bootleg compilation from the Killed By Death series. "Hey you proud punkrock scum, what we offer you is international punkrock cause it's better.", so starts the liner notes on the back cover and Yeah, this writer's not wrong. This record contains both sides of rare original 7inches from the early wild days and kicks your fuckin' brain out, pressed in 500 copies. The makers have once again ensured that the KBD series are one of the best of all time, as well as a football World Cup. No failure, only hits, no complaints. This record is one of the rarest KBD albums and disappeared very quickly, good luck to find a copy.

MASSMEDIA - Sista Ackordet 1980

The first band from Sundsvall that recorded an EP. The members had been in England and bought themselves an eight channel mixer and used that to record their EP's. On the first recording the battery of the fuzzbox went empty and because no stores where open the guitar sounds a little non-distorted. They released their EP's on the Massproduktion label, a label they created themselves. Being the most ambitious local punk band at the time they developed fast and even before the release of the first EP they recorded the classical single Das Jazz/Jag Vill Inget, live in their rehearsalroom with Jan Zachrisson from Diestinct, who knew slightly more about recordings. It is still one of the most furious singles from that period with the VU-meters glued to the red area. In February 1979 they released their first album on their own label Massproduktion. It had a print run of 800 numbered copies and is now regarded as a collector's item. In 1980 the Nilsson brothers went to Linköping to study, and that was the end of the band. The Nilsson brothers later started Huvudtvätt. So this album is an awesome KBD smasher and one of the top releases of this genre.

"Ladies & Gentlemen, This Is PUNKROCK!!!!!" If an record so begins only cool shit can put on there. I open solemnly another round of the legendary compilation series and this is a pretty piece of vinyl which contains the first five Killed By 7inch EPs. Most of those were released only in editions of 300 copies and they quickly disappeared. If you missed out on those now you have here the chance. Rumours going around that a second LP is planned for Vol. 6-10 but I've never seen any. Fuck it! this is an average collection of tracks and I'm sure you pick it up. HUVUDTVÄTT & PICNIC BOYS - Split EP 1981

Huvudtvätt existed from 1981-1984 and were formed by brothers Mats and Torulf Nilsson. After the demise of Sundsvall's famous (and orthodox) punk band Massmedia in 1980, the two brothers moved to Linköping to study and they were eager to play again. It was originally planned as a solo project by Mats, but it resulted in Huvudtvätt (HT). With new influences from the US hardcore scene and England’s Discharge, they step towards in a wild/tougher style and they were noticed in the clubs. All the song titles have a cleaning theme and the ambiguous lyrics were humorous but serious at the same time. The band also appeared as Headcleaners, whose name came from a cleaning cassette and their music was as rough as HT, but the social critical English words were written primarily by Janne and they released one or two 7Inches via the Uppsala label Malign Massacre. On stage Huvudtvätt only performed once during their career. - From the Picnic Boys came the B-Side with two classic KBD tunes. They were a three piece combo (also Sundsvall) and that's all info I have for you. These both tracks are damn cool and I think this is all they pressed on vinyl. Unfortunately, I think a full length would become a killer LP.

BRÄNDA BARN - s/t EP 1980

Brända Barn (Burned Children) was a punk band from Sundsvall and singer Anders "Brodde" Brodin was previously active in Massmedia and released with them a couple of singles in 1979. Then he formed in summer of 1979 Brända Barn who loan their name from a novel by Stig Dagerman. The band started as a punk band but then evolved in another direction, clearly influenced by Joy Division and other post-punk bands. They played as support act for Sham 69 when the group appeared in Sundsvall, 30 January 1980. The band recorded a series of singles in the early eighties plus a few compilation track (Sveriges Största Singel) and their debut, Allt Står I Lågor (Everything Is In Flames) on Mistlur in 1983 and become a lot of attention, polarized criticism and listeners, but overall an extatic audience at their concerts during a tour in the winter 1983-84. In February 1984 the band split up, Brodin said he can’t coping with the intense pressure from the fans during & after the concerts. Teens in the audience had repeatedly stormed the stage to touch him. In late 1984 the band made a comeback under the name The Wild Bunch, which later was changed to The Bunch. After this, the band had a number of reunions: 1987, 1991 (two concerts), 1999 (two concerts) & 2003 (three concerts).
