BEYOND POSSESSION - Is Beyond Possession 1986

Calgary's Beyond Possession with their debut album on Death Records/Metal Blade Records which is a bit louder and heavier than their Tell Tale Heart EP in my opinion and I regret having sold this slab many years ago. Fifteen amazing Thrash/HardcorePunk goodies have come together here with a slightly metallic touch like I liked to hear back then and rediscover today. Unfortunately they stuck to only one album, because after various line-up changes (particularly on guitar) they recorded demos for a second album in 1989 which indicated a more whimsical metal direction, but broke up without completing it. But 1996 a CD with all their recordings (Repossessed 1985-1989) were released on Melodiya Records. Solid stuff for breakfast I think, and maybe a little lunch later... Bon Appétit!

V/A - Halt! 2023

All right! Now, after a long time, one more selfmade Compilation is coming and there are songs on a certain topic that I don't usually do, but this time it was a need for me and it's quite possible that a second one will follow. It's about society & people, and I took thirty-seven killers which I like and think, they're fit. This manipulated society that is trapped in those systems and marches along tightly without following their own emotions and demands, that others hate because of a pimple on their forehead and let themselves be fooled every day and are numbed by the guidelines that are presented to them. Frightening & Incomprehensible this mass social control... I'm so sick of them! Certainly not just here but everywhere and I guess you know what I'm talking about, you see it every day. Anyway, this is my small contribution from the WDM Records headquarters with a lot of help by friends. Enjoy!

UHF - Persona Non Grata 1982

And one more record from my favorite band from Portugal UHF, and I think this is their third album on Rádio Triunfo records. Info: From this album came the singles "Um Mau Rapaz" (1982), with the unpublished theme on the B-side "Amigos Até Logo", and "Voo Para A Venezuela" (1983) with "Dança De Canibais" on the flip-side.

At the end of the second year, UHF broke the five-year contract with EMI and continued recording with at Rádio Triunfo, a change that covered the headlines of the newspapers at the time, which they would come to regret later. The song "Um Mau Rapaz" reflects, from the title, the psychological climate that surrounded the band, the sincerity translated into rhyme, a consequence of the little attention that EMI gave to the protagonism conquered by UHF. It is the band's most ferociously Rock album, for obvious reasons. Editing the cover of the album provoked a marked instability within the band. In the photograph, António appears isolated on the cover and the other elements on the back cover, fueling speculation of a promotional photo for a future solo career by the singer. They went on tour through France and Germany, in the year in which they totaled eighty-six concerts.

But luckily that didn't happen and despite the clear musical & social difficulties of the time, António, composer and mentor of the band, managed to continue the solid project UHF and in spring 1983, the fourth record Ares E Bares De Fronteira was published and the first edition was sold out quickly. Musically, there are solid Rock tunes that flashes a bit snotty the Punk roots in some songs and is in any case implemented perfect and audible everytime.

OBNOXIOUS! - Sickness EP 1993

Obnoxious! from Strasbourg were a two piece project, Wattie (vocals/guitars) and Ricky (bass/drums) and active from 1991 to 1995. The first issue of their debut 7Inch (Fight 45 Records) was a hand numbered limited edition of 500 copies in blue wax and features ten angry and brutal Hardcore attacks in thirteen minutes, and since they sing in English, their superb lyrics send a clear message. An album (Puke Till Death) followed in 1994 but unfortunately tensions arose between the two and in 1995 the band broke up. Heading into the weekend with this blast and now I leave the stage for today.

ROTAZION - s/t EP 1981

One of those many bands that hardly anyone knows these days are the next four piece called Rotazion, the bnad consisted of Jonus (vocals/guitar), Jerry (bass), Tom (drums), Joey (electric violin) and who plays the saxophone is not known. Fact is, this is their only record on Ausguss-Production with three alternatives, two three minute swingin and a short ditty. Not really Punkrock but with good lyrics.

V/A - Compulsive Agitation EP 2023

The tenth and latest release from dutch D.I.Y. Subunderground Compulsive Agitation’s, Compulsive Agitation, is an excellent EP Compilation featuring six songs from five bands, hailing from the Netherlands as well as the UK. Edition of 400 copies on black vinyl. Well, the label should be familiar to you as it is the home base of the talented school of fuzzpunk, or in short: Ford's Fuzz Inferno whose contribution has not yet been published. This also applies to the other songs (except for Waste). Nun, this little 7Inch is a real grenade with short loud impacts that absolutely smash me into the past when Hardcore became my driving force and I was flashed by the aggressive fast sound. And once infected, it stays in your heart and you know what's good for you. With Hans & Co. you know what you're getting and all ten records aren't late bloomers or lame copies of old heroes, NO! Honest straight pissed off Hardcore with appealing words rolling over you and rousing every lame ass to participate, and to that always an informative artwork. This litle goodies comes with an insert featuring alternative front cover designs and infos about the bands.

"Overall, 'Compulsive Agitation' is a fantastic EP release that showcases the strength and diversity of the old school Do It Yourself Punk scene. Each band brings its unique sound and style, creating a compilation full of energy and attitude." (THOUGHTS WORDS ACTION - 8th June, 2023)

Since the edition is very limited, it will be difficult to get hold of a copy, I have one and if you find one, grab it! Pushes anytime, especially with back pain.
Five Killer Punk Bands! - Six Killer Punk Hits! Enjoy!

1.Protect & Serve - KRUST WORTHY
2.Everything Is Grey - WASTE
3.Reptile Brain - SCOUNDRELS
4.Sab The Hunters - KRUST WORTHY
5.A Messed Up Situation - FORD'S FUZZ INFERNO
6.Urban Disease - RHI & THE RELICS

NEWS - That Girl 7'' 1980

That Girl is the third and last 7Inch of the early stages by Melbourne based News and these two goodies were recorded by Adam (vocals), Russell (guitars), Kim (bass), Dorland (drums), Graham (keyboard) and released via Missing Link. This time not as rough and dirty as its two predecessors, but still excellent and a worthy finale. In 2018 another retro 7inch, Lemme Alone, was released on Buttercup Records in a limited edition (400 copies) in two different versions containing two demo songs from 1978. Also worth mentioning is a CD (probably a bootleg) release from 2009 called Punk Never Happened??? which includes all songs by Babeez and News. Heart-warming songs that are always good for me and always demand a short break from everyday routine work. Time for a cool beer, an Ibu and that's the end of today's Blog care. Cheers!

RUSSIAN ROULETTE - J'ai Tout Oublié 7'' 1984

A little darling from nearby France (Mulhouse) is the only 7Inch from Russian Roulette on Ere Force Records and until the band had found their formation, it takes some time. Finally consisted them on these recordings, I think, of Patrice (vocals), Jean-Yves & Christian (guitars), Patrick (bass) Didi (drums). Two brilliant catchy songs that I would definitely take as an option for a French Compilation, rocking and variable and since I like to work with reviews, a little one for you. "The A-side is a steady but slow rockin’ moody tune with full vocal choruses, echoey vocals, and powerful back-up. Definitely catchy and non-wimpy. The flip blasts out a sorta R’n’B-based rocker with cool hiccup-y vocals and singin’ guitar, much in the vein of the early Flamin Groovies." (Tim Yohannan, MRR #25 • May/June 1985) I can only underline and it's really a pity that not more was recorded, the potential is definitely there, as with many others. I guess, the band broke up shortly after that.

SILENT NOISE - I've Been Hurt 7'' 1979

Appropriate for my physical condition, the following is 7inch and comes from a four piece and was released on Easy Records in an edition of 1000 copies and features two excellent tracks, but in order: Norfolk-based combob which formed 1978 as "Broadside Outcasts" they performed at least one gig with an added saxophonist. The band's name was then changed to Silent Noise after one of Dave's songs and the band consisted of Neil (vocals), Steve (guitars), Dave (bass/vocals), Polo (drums). In 2002 the dutch label Low Down Kids Records released a fantastic compilation "Whatever Happened To Us" with twelve rare goodies and if someone has this, please drop me a mail. Present on a few Compilations, one of them Bloodstains Across The U.K #3, but the four certainly deserve more appearances with their excellent PowerPop stuff. On the road to recovery, I remain yours sincerely.

N.O.T.A. - s/t LP 1985

Hot Shit! You thought their past records were great, well here’s nineteen tracks that are rockin’, thrashin’, imaginative, and catchy. The slower songs have a catchy early ’77 Pop-Punk sound, and the thrash just rips. A good mix that shows that NOTA are expanding their boundaries and coming of age as a style to US Hardcore. (Ruth Schwartz, MRR #28 • September 1985) We're talking about N.O.T.A. (None Of The Above) from Tulsa/Oklahoma, a fantastic four piece that has changed its line-up over the years. On this brilliant slab the band consisted of Jeff (vocals/guitar), Russell (guitars), Bruce (bass), Bob (drums) and this is their first album on Rabid Cat Records with nineteen smasher, recorded 1979-1985, and all mercilessly fantastic. During their on-again-off-again existence they released three 7Inches and three full albums. They disbanded in 1987, but reformed in 1993 and finally broke up in 2000. Top record and I have to stop now because I must recovering from a crappy bike crash.
