TROUBLEMAKERS - Vild & Vacker 1999

We stayed in Sweden and meet the Troublemakers from Gothenburg again with their third record on Ägg Tapes & Records with fourteen decent rockin' goodies and if you enjoyed the singles then the album will appeal to you as well. We enjoy catchy 90's Punk as it was presented almost everywhere at the time and that certain amount of mid-tempo Rock'N'Roll inevitably mixes with top notch Punk sound and I'm too drunk to let out any more words, besides being disappointed by people who say it was nice and confirm exactly the opposite but that doesn't belong here, it's purely privateIt doesn't matter, people are and will always be shit and this post won't change anything about that. Enjoy the record and don't ask why, it's useless anyway.

SÖTLIMPA - A Non Fitting Generation 12'' 1984

It's a bit chilly this morning so it takes some heated music to warm you up and the following slab from Skvaller Records does that perfectly. Sötlimpa was a Swedish combo from Mölndal outside Gothenburg and consisted of Jesus (vocals), Martin (guitars), Raimo (bass), Hans (drums). The band was formed 1981 in the beginning of the second wave of Punk, influenced by bands like the Exploited and developed from Punk with Oi!-influences to a raw Hardcore quartet. In total they released a Single, a 12Inch and two cassettes and represented on numerous compilations. They disbanded in 1984, before re-emerging in 1992, 1996 and 2017. In their relative short time if existence the gang is claimed to have made around 100 gigs and earned a reputation as a great live band. A useful review: "Up-tempo Hardcore with catchy rhythms from Sweden’s Sötlimpa. Driving pace but it keeps the harmony and beat. Fun, danceable stuff. Too bad it’s a muddy mix; still, you’ll never know as you fly with the music." (Pushead, MRR #20 • Dec. 1984) - Brilliant Stuff!

SECTION 8 - Hollywood Halloween 7'' 1979

Section 8 was a combo from Ottawa and active from 1980-1989 and have reformed subsequently in 2000 and 2006. This is unfortunately their only record with two cool goodies on Zero/Zero Records. In the same year they made more recordings that were planned as the Unstable World album, but never released because the studio lost the master tapes, stupid thing that. Well, and so only these two crackers remain but they're an excellent start into the weekend. Enjoy!

NO PUB - Juste Un Peu De Bière EP 1997

No Pub was a French quartet from Blois and was active between 1981 and 1982 and consisted of Denis (vocals), Fonfon (guitars), Vava (bass), Eric (drums). This four track EP was released via Euthanasie Records in an edition of 1000 copies and the goodies are already appeared on the great Apocalypse Chaos compilation on Chaos Productions ('82) and as bonus, extra for this slab, is a live version of the title track included. Musically a solid Oi!/Punk cocktail as it is common in this league and thus gained attention/popularity. If I feel like and have time, I also look for the Sampler. And now a small cold beer 🍺

HUL - Den Danske Ungdom... 2001

Danish Dynamite from Copenhagen by HUL and the line-up consisted of Kasper (vocals), Morton (guitars), Mads (bass), Morten (drums) and their only album came out via 9 Lives Records in an edition of 500 copies. An apt review from the 2009 re-release: "Pre Amdi Petersens Armé, Young Wasteners, and No Hope For The Kids, etc… and this is the crème de la crème. Den Danske Ungdom is an impeccable record and it’s a desert island pick for sure. This record is a beast, from the first drop of the needle your hit with a wave of fervid urgency and power, that first guitar lick forever etched into one’s brain. The vocals are so pure and honest with such youthful vigor and abhorrence with every squeak and prepubescent crack being utter hardcore perfection. The songs so original/memorable you’ll want to flip this record over and over again until you’ve retained all its beauty; how often is the first record or output by a group of kids this accomplished? I’m writing all this now without having listened to it in over a week. It’s just one of those records that is an instant classic, a true rarity in today’s saturated heap of terrible to mediocre records. What I’m saying is this is a scorched earth policy. I’m putting it on now and am set to explode. Pick Your King of a new generation? You bet." (Hjernespind Records)

V/A - Bloodstains Across Norway 1997

Welcome to another nugget from my Bloodstains collection with twenty-four great rare blasts from Northern Europe: Norway. A fine country for a relaxing holiday with lots of hills forests and lakes and only very few people living in the countryside. I certainly don't have to tell you more about the bands, because those who know the series know what's inside: superb stuff whose originals are priceless and that's exactly why such slabs were born and the boom of those brilliant records has now died and even these releases are hard to come by nowadays. And with that I say goodbye to my well-deserved vacation. Stay decent and I hope you don't get any withdrawal symptoms. 😎

DIE PROFIS - Neue Sensationen + Alte Geheimnisse 2008

Interesting release on Teenage Rebel Records and on this anthology are the only and much sought-after album from 1982 plus demo songs, compilation contributions and live recordings, some tracks by the previous band Stairs. We're talking about Die Profis from Düsseldorf which formed 1979 as Stairs by Ralf (vocals/guitars), Hans (bass), Roland (drums) and this formation made their only 7inch, Hey You, in 1980 via Big Record Deal and on it are two delicious Modpunk goodies that created a sound throughout the German musical landscape in the early Eighties that made them very special, but the German mod scene, with a few exceptions, never caught the attention of the big bands from England. They changed their bandname into Die Profis, and Rainer replaced Hans on bass, and the now rare and only Longplayer Neue Sensationen was recorded and released on Schallmauer in 1982. The independent sound from Rock'N'Roll, Pop, Ska and Punk is wonderfully solid and is characterized by the very good lyrics and underlines the brilliant quality of this band. A reviewer writes: "The perfect soundtrack for growing up in a stuffy society that gets on your nerves with its norms and values, while you just party to good music and make out with girls." Absolutely right! They split in 1984, reformed in the late '80s with a new line-up, finally disbanded in the early Nineties.

DEMOCRASH - 909 DemocrashDrug 10'' 2018

To my surprise, I was asked to write a review of the following music, which is of course an honor, and I finally have time to comply with this request. The baby is called Democrash - a five-piece from Lisbon and consists of Octávio (vocals/guitar/electronics), Rui (guitars), Ricardo (bass), Vitor (saxophone/guitar/tambourine), Zé (drums). They move, according to their own statements, at on the interface of Punk, Rock, Funk, New Wave and Electro sounds. In 2015 they released their first musical work on Slightly Promiscuous Records with eight songs. At first I was a bit skeptical about the saxophone, but I have to say they stage it well and it stays in the background. The songs are varied, short numbers share the time with extremely long pieces which on the one hand underline their musical abilities and on the other hand are very pleasant to listen to. Driving and dynamic vibes mix with pleasant Punkrock and a pinch of electro beats which is very catchy and sounds anything but exhausting. Not bad for a debut. The second release came in form of a 10Inch on RagingPlanet and with this five track record they tie in seamlessly with the debut. An official review says: "the energy and determination they put into the music that comes out of their body and mind is enhanced by what they manage to convey to the listener and taster, who suddenly feels invaded by a whirlwind of sensations that make him shake."

I can only underline that, emotional explosions packed into the appropriate musical framework that make these five interesting. Democrash are worth listening to, not all the time, but they enrich the music world with their refreshing, unpolished, independent sound and I'm sure they will reach a large fan base not only in Portugal.
