The word for Monday comes today from Distortion Records with this superb compilation by E.A.T.E.R. (Ernst And The Edsholm Rebels). Originally formed 1982 in Grums, they released four EPs and the legendary split tape together with Incharge. Eighteen decent hardcore smasher from the Eighties (including the EP, the split tape & the Really Fast compi goodies). In the mid 80's Ernst & the Rebels dissolved after tremendous turbulence but reunited 1985 with new members, Snake (bass) and Jerker (drums). Some gigs were made with this setting. In 1986, the band was reunited once again with Pelle back on the drums, when they, among other things, did a European Tour and in 1989 they split up finally. - They reunited in spring 2010 again with new members and played at Punk Illegal, their first gig in twenty-four years. During the summer more gigs followed and in September they recorded their second EP If Nothing's Right...Go Left! with five newly written songs, released in 500 copies with a deluxe folding cover and splatter-colored vinyl. In October came this little fucker on vinyl in a limited edition of 300 copies in transparent vinyl, 700 in black. More touring through the States (2011) & Japan (2013). A fourth 7Inch Projectiles For The People came in 2015 with five more songs on Ernst Records. In January 2017 EATER decides to close down all operations after two years of inactivity. And now.... enjoy loud, shrill, upbeat melodies.

V/A - P.E.A.C.E. Compilation 2LP 1984
I don't think this excellent release in form of a double record set can be more topical, and as we all have to realize, mankind hasn't gotten any wiser even after almost forty years. There is always some aggressor somewhere who expresses its sick ideology with lies and blind helpers and it is appalling that no diplomacy, no system, and no sensible compromise can prevent a violent confrontation. Pathetic, disappointing & lifeless all the pursuit of power and heroism. About the record: "This massive international Hardcore/Punk compilation features fifty-five bands/songs and was organized and released by the infamous MDC on the band's own label R Radical Records. The worldwide hardcore scene was at its peak at this point, still underground enough to repel corrupting outside influences like major labels and heavy metal, but already hardened into a rigid aesthetic and political dogma that often encouraged groupthink and musical conformity. P.E.A.C.E. documents the state of "Reagan-era" Hardcore, just before the popularity of extreme music spread through decidedly non-radical camps and into the mainstream. Among the fifty-five bands on board are well-known plus the best tracks by courtesy of obscure groups of the local scenes from Argentina, South Africa to Japan. Most of the bands included retain, either through design or some bizarre quirk of ineptitude, a stamp of individuality on their sound that makes this an entertaining collection.
An extensive booklet insert is packed with political rants, cartoons, and suggestions for further reading, making explicit the double-LP's theme of activism and action against a corrupt authority. Plus, each band is provided with a full page to express their ideas (and plug their wares) with printed lyrics and crudely effective collage art. Reissued on CD in 1997 by New Red Archives with bonus cuts." (Fred Beldin) - A real highlight of an international gathering that shows how it can work.

DAGOWOPS - s/t LP + 7'' 2016
Today a fantastic release from Hörsturzproduktion, a small German independent Punkrock label that existed since around 2003, which specializes in rare, lost D-Punk by/with bands who only did demos during their lifetime and dig up these recordings, and which are now finally worth hearing. With a love of detail and mostly in a limited edition, sometimes on colorful vinyl and with a lot of heart & soul, each record is an original contribution to German subculture, a delicious example is this: Dagowops were a band from the Munich area and consisted of Monika (vocals), Helmut & Hans (guitars), Willi (bass), Ernst (drums) and were active from 1980 to 1983. Monika's vocals were particularly outstanding which is why Dagowops were soon compared to Siouxie & The Banshees. They have had prolific musical output in form of two self-released tapes of around twenty tracks each, as well as a contribution on the first Munich Punk Sampler (Gruft Records) and a self-distributed EP. In the second phase, Tommy played bass. Sometime in 1983 the band disbanded. "Dagowops were never Punks. We had nothing to do with politics or other groups. We made Punkrock because we liked the genre and it was the only thing we could play. The most important thing was to have fun." (Hans) - This compilation features twenty rare numbers from their short life. 👍

RESTLESS VIRGINS - Television Child EP 1981
The Restless Virgins were an Ottawa based combo that existed between 1980 and 1984. Members were Nick (vocals), Steven (guitars), Mary (bass), Jeb (drums) and this is their first record on TCM Records with three cool numbers, of which the flip's a splendid almost seven minute one. "After many months of exhaustive gigging and frantic financing, the Four have finally committed their sound to vinyl, songs of youthful disaffection and tempered anger. Ottawa's Virgins maintain the punk ethos without preaching; it's all commenting and questioning vocals in a gimmick-free foundation of crisp drumming, steady bass and fluid/fuzzy guitar lines. An excellent debut, marred only slightly by the rather low level of the recording. Twelve minutes of finest music for your wounded ears." (Rob Stewart) - A record that deserves a reissue. In the same year they released their second & last EP on which three live songs are immortalized. That's it for today, off to the weekend with you!

IRON MAIDEN - @ Sun Plaza/Tokyo 24.05.1981
Today to a band that has accompanied me since their third album and that I appreciate very much: Iron Maiden - Founded in Leyton/East London in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris and they're still traveling the world to date. The band's discography has grown to forty-one albums, including seventeen studio, thirteen live albums, four EPs, and seven compilations (who can keep up with that?). My last Maiden album which I bought was the sixth one, the first with guitar synthesizers and it was kind of strange to me at the time so I didn't feel much enthusiasm, furthermore Punkrock moved into my veins and brightened my spirit and changed my life. Nevertheless, I attended the Somewhere On Tour and it was more of a coincidence. I was sitting at home with buddies and we thought about what to do with the evening, Maiden played on November 20th, 1986 in Offenbach, in the small Stadthalle, together with W.A.S.P. from Los Angeles. Unfortunately, I don't have any more pictures in my head, but we went there spontaneously (at that time you could still get tickets at the box office) and enjoyed the evening.
Now after more than thirty-five years I bought the latest work by the British, Senjutsu, and I'm blown away; but not because of the mostly positive reviews, no no no... I rather have the feeling that they never left, they still sound powerful, solid joy of playing and you can tell that the gentlemen want to and still can do it, the new epic shoots me back into my youth like a time machine, and I'm feeling great. The only difference, the songs are a bit longer. I think the success is because it's their first album in almost six years.
Well, I want to bow & out of gratitude for all the fantastic emotions, now a little tribute post in form of a live recording from their Killer tour in 1981 (still with Paul Di'Anno on the mic who was allowed to leave the band in September '81). In their early days they sounded a bit harder and rougher, which reflects the special charm of the songs, and an experience for everyone who doesn't know Maiden at this time. Top sound quality and strong overall. Enjoy the show and the quality and quantity of this historic recording, especially in fuckin' times like these. Up the Irons!

SOCIAL UNREST - Before The Fall 1986
European pressing of the second album on Konkurrel by Social Unrest from Hayward, part of the lively northern California Punk scene of the Eighties, Social Unrest were a hardcore outfit whose abundant energy and defiant anti-authoritarian stance set a standard followed by many of their peers. Formed in 1980, with the initial line-up featuring Creetin (vocals), Doug & Danny (guitars), John (bass), Mark (drums). Before The Fall is still fast and aggressive. All instruments harmonize very sensitively and create a feeling of well-being, only Bad Religion can keep up with. Apparently that's why many fans/critics consider this as the bands masterpiece. Lend your ears to the debut SU-2000 and decide for yourself.

VICTIM - All Our Dreams Are Gone 2011
Eye-catching compilation by RaveUp Records and you know what to expect from them. This record is part of their glorious "EUROPEAN PUNK SERIES" and Volume 6 is the following highlight: Formed in Belfast in Mid 1977, Victim soon became familiar faces on the emerging Belfast scene. Following their appearance on the legendary UTV punk documentary 'It Makes You Want Top Spit' and a rapidly increasing live following, Terri Hooley signed the band to his Good Vibrations label in 1978 and released Strange Thing By Night / Mixed Up World 7". In early 1978, prompted by a lack of venues, Victim made a trip to a local city centre pub because they heard it had a stage! They secured a gig and the legendary Harp Bar was born as a punk venue. In July 1979 they were offered a modest record deal by TJM Records and decided to depart to England, settling in Manchester.
Early gigs saw them playing with The Fall and Revillos as well as playing the legendary Factory club to accompany the screening of Shellshock Rock, a film on Irish punk featuring among others Victim. A second release "Why Are Fire Engines Red/I Need You" on TJM secured good reviews and radio support from John Peel despite its horrendous cover. In November 1979 Victim supported the Damned on an extensive tour. Rat Scabies produced the band's third single The Teen Age EP released in 1980 on Illuminated Records.
The band continued for several years with line up changes including Mike Joyce (later of the Smiths) and Toni Isaac (the girl leaning against a lamppost on Jilted John's single of the same name!) before deciding to call it a day. This anthology contains a great selection of all their punk material. If you are a fan of Undertones and Stiff Little Fingers, don't miss it!!!!
