EASYBEAT - Don't You Know... EP 1981

A lot of rare Swedish stuff has been comin' in the past few days and I have to say: a few real nuggets are underneath. For example the debut EP by Easybeat on Hit-Records, a four piece from Landskrona and the band consisted of Anders (vocals/guitar), Dan (lead guitar), Jonas (bass), Benny (drums) and the songs shine with rich melodies, sweet harmonies and jangly guitars and I'm really excited by their music. The four made it to three singles before they probably disbanded in the mid-80s. So enjoy the four powerpop crusher and invite one of them on your next self-made compilation.

Not another Australian compilation (here the copy) because of the title, this is the original on Gustav Records and a few liner notes about this great record: "It Happened But Nobody Noticed is a compilation of recordings from 1978-82 of Southern Connecticut Bands. For many of these groups  this is their first appearance on vinyl, for many their last. These selections contained herein typify the diverse and abundant talent that exists in this area. Some of these artists have recordings available besides their contributions to this record and where possible we have noted them. So this is it, our contribution to indepentent American music history, chronicling a short span of time when 'new music' really was new and fans crammed the clubs as young men and woman played from their heart, almost always coming away with their pockets empty but their minds are souls sated. There were, and are, many more deserving groups not represented here, due more to financial reasons on our and their parts than ability or vision. Thank you for the existence of all this!" - Rare stuff I would say and exclusively in this theatre!

ARMATUR - Rock 'N' Roll 7'' 1980

Rare 7Inch by Armatur, a rock band from Kristinehamn and the band consisted of Johan (vocals), Peter & Magnus (guitars), Håkan (bass), Leif (drums) and their only record was released via Duvan in an edition of 500 copies. In my opinion, anyone who makes a slab with this title must keep what it promises, and the five will do it very well. The a-side is a fat stomper at a brilliant tempo which unfortunately doesn't hold the flip, but who cares... fat songs that blows your mind!

STARK RAVING MAD - Social Sickness 10'' 1989

One more 10Inch from Nuclear Blast Records, 2000 copies yellow vinyl, by Stark Raving Mad from Housten with fifteen short numbers, A-Side with studio recordings from 10/12/85 (but different from "Amerika" versions), B-Side live @ CBGB's 10/12/86. The band was formed 1982 as Pissed Youth! by Spunge Oid (vocals), Barry (guitar), Steve (bass), Jeff (drums). After a few gigs, older, more pissed off, and madder than ever, they reformed with Sam playing guitar and & Bob Byte on bass and renamed ourselves Stark Raving Mad in 1983 and released their first 12Inch via Slob Records. More gigs followed, the 'America' 12Inch in 1985 and sometime in the late 80s the band was history. In 1995, Stark Raving Mad reformed in New York as a threesome; this time with Sam on guitar and vocals, Steve on drums, and Colleen on bass. Our music had evolved, and we wrote some new songs; but before we could get them to vinyl or CD, we lost Steve to a heroin overdose. - Enjoy and remember!

I don't know about you, but the hysteria over the Corona Shit gets on my nerves. I think all the measures, curfew, protective mask, cancellations are exaggerated, who knows what the Chinese were doing? V/A - The Siren 1980

Puhhhh, Housework is strenuous and the same crap every spring. Let's put a little break in between. Every now and then I discover new music and sometimes with a little help from my friends. In this case, my best regards to Berlin to Uncle Nolti, head of New Rose PunkRockRadio... which is always funny, informative & creative and the unchallenged #1 in this country in terms of punkrock. A good eight weeks ago there was history class in his program and what treasures he grabbed out is damn rare first-class stuff. You doubt? Move over to 27.01.2020 and convince yourself. Part of the musical outpourings were songs from this largely unknown compilation by Posh Boy Records with three combos which also received little attention. Every band do their thing properly and I don't know which one to pick out, and I sum up: one of those slabs that wants to be heard often. THE CONTINENTALS - Fizz! Pop! (Modern Rock) 10'' 1980

The Continentals released three 7Inches and the first was Fizz Pop in 1979. This is a 10Inch with four songs and since I am still busy with housework some info from the net: One of the few entries in the short-lived CBS NuDisk experiment of four- to five-song 10" EPs, Fizz Pop (Modern Rock) is the Continentals' one and only major label release. Their brand of gutsy power pop is on the Plimsouls/Last side of the equation, with noisier guitars and rougher vocals than you'd find on a Rubinoos or Raspberries album, but while ex-Ramone Tommy Erdelyi's production sounds great, Thomas Doherty and William John Holliday's songwriting is frustratingly inconsistent. The two songs on side one, the anthemic title track and the similarly passionate "Walking Tall," are terrific. On the flip, the anti-radio rant "Housewives' Delight" and the puerile "Two Lips From Amsterdam" (note the seventh-grade-level pun) sound like second-rate Knack rejects, complete with obnoxious Doug Fieger-style smug vocals.(Stewart Mason) - Today comes more ..... promised!

THE RERUNS - Since You Gotta Cheat 7'' 1979

Great stuff from Detroit with the Reruns Dave (vocals/lead guitar), Kenny (guitar), Al (bass), George (drums) and this is their debut Single on Spider Records with two kisses. A second came out 1979 on FTM Records. The b-side is certainly known to many of you because it is guest on numerous compilations. A bit info: "Taking their cue from television, and borrowing the last names of notable characters from 1950s/1960s shows, The Reruns were part of the Hamtramck scene, moving in the orbits of the Romantics and the Mutants with a power pop sensibility." Now I'm going to do a little housework, rip an essential record and then come back with another one..... let's see.

PINK CHAMPAGNE - Vackra Pojke! 1982

There has probably not been a single article about Pink Champagne where the word "girl group" has not been mentioned. This is no exception. After all, there are not so many seriously ambitious girl bands. And Pink Champagne both looks and sounds like girls. In addition, they have interesting thoughts on the subject. The bands first album received good reviews, they're a very verbal group that knows what it wants and eagerly discusses how. There are high demands and plenty of self-criticism. It is important to say something, be entertaining and be believed. A bit useless basic info: Pink Champagne (first named Kasern 9) was a Swedish all girl combo in the 80s and consisted of Ann (vocals), Gunilla (bass), Karin (guitar) & Stina (drums). They released four 7Inches and two albums (via the MNW label) before breaking up in 1984. After that Karin and Ann went to Australia in 1987, Karin dated and became the domestic partner of Steve Kilbey of The Church and co-wrote their hit song ‘Under The Milkey Way’. Jansson and Kilbey also formed the band Curious (Yellow). Today she runs a yoga studio in Stockholm, writes poetry and music. Ann is married and has a son and a daughter. She is the manager of the Science Fiction Bookstore in Gamla Stan (old town of Stockholm). Stina started writing children's books and released a solo album in 2008. Vackra Pojke shines with eleven nuggets somewhere between PowerPop, New Wave and Punk... cool record!

THE SLEEPERS - Angel In A Raincoat EP 1980

Nice Powerpop EP by the Sleepers from Nottingham and the band consisted of Barry (vocals), Carl (guitars), John (bass), Graham (drums) and they released this superb record on BAT Records and the title track is their hymne for which they are known. 500 copies were pressed without sleeve and Queen Mum Records re-released this little nugget 2018 in different colors, each limited & already out of print. They recorded a demo in 1981 and sent it to labels, but they paid little attention to it and ignored it (as with so many bands, some of which are very sought-after classics today), money-hungry morons! Another better demo was recorded but this was not sent to anybody (later released as 7Inch). After many months of travelling, many poorly paid gigs around the country, the Sleepers continued in various forms for a couple of years but didn't really achieve the heights of the early days and by 1984 the band had split. That is their inheritance: four brilliant goodies that the world needs.
