ACCÜSED - The Return Of Martha Splatterhead 1986

Holy shit, that was a long hard fuckin' day and I need the weekend more than ever and to switch off now a record that I heard in those days with my best friend up and down and unfortunately no longer in my collection: the first Accüsed album. A bit info from wiki: The Accüsed is a crossover thrash band from Seattle, Washington, founded in 1981. The band was a progenitor of the crossover style that bridged the gap between thrashcore and thrash metal, later influencing grindcore and some crust punk bands; as well as an influential band in the Seattle alternative scene. The band calls their music "Splattercore", and their zombie mascot, Martha Splatterhead, appears on most of their albums. Common themes involve social issues and the theme of Martha Splatterhead coming back from the dead to slaughter rapists and child molesters. The Accüsed took an 11-year hiatus in 1992, with members taking time to play in Seattle bands such as The Fartz and Gruntruck. The band re-formed in 2003, and after several line-up changes was put on "...indefinite hiatus..." in 2012 according to band founder and sole original member, guitarist Tommy Niemeyer. The Return of Martha Splatterhead was released on Subcore Records and later re-released on Earache Records (the first mosh album), in 1986. According to reviewer Jeb Branin, "I was writing for a zine in Canada called Northern Metal that reviewed the new LP The Return Of Martha Splatterhead giving it a 0.0 rating and absolutely crucifying it in the review. It is the only 0.0 review I remember ever seeing in Northern Metal. They hated it so much I knew I had to buy it. As I suspected, the album was a masterpiece of hardcore hysteria."

Well, I'm still excited about this aggressive sound that I've never heard again which continues seamlessly on the second longplayer 'More Fun Than An Open Casket Funeral'.

MÜLLSTATION & DOG FOOD FIVE - Split LP 1998

Schlemihl Records released this proper record in a limited of 1000 hand-numbered copies with eight rare songs from Müllstation and Dog Food Five. Müllstation is a punk band from Eisleben in Saxony-Anhalt and were founded in 1980 in the GDR and is now one of the longest active Punkbands in the East, members are Harty Sachse ("Steve Aktiv", vocals) and Frank Baur (bass), at first the band used pots as drums and a homemade guitar. In 1982 the band met in front of the Palace of the Republic in East Berlin with two presenters from the NDR (Tim Renner and Thomas Meins) and these two took Müllstation and the band Menschrock for recordings to Hamburg and these were played on 20 September 1982 in the broadcast "Club" on NDR 2. Over the years they often played in the Christusgemeinde in Halle along with bands such as Schleim-Keim, Wutanfall, Größenwahn and Betonromanze. Susanne "Susi" Horn on bass as well as Volker Eschke and Mike Beelitz on guitars joined the band later. Resolution 1989 and Reunion in 1990, Frank Baur took over the guitar parts and Ralf "Ralle" Brauer came as new drummer, but was soon by Roy Hoffmann and finally in 1995 by Jürgen "Grahli" Grahl (previously at Abraum and NFP) replaced. At the end of the 1990s Melanie Stütz joined the band as new bassist, since 2002 then Alex Zschaege (previously KVD, NFP). Frank Baur and Jürgen Grahl are also working with non-Müllstation member Toralf Schwarz still in a side project called The Morlox. The Morlox play surf with Slavic influences.

Dog Food Five was founded in the summer of 1991. At a time when punk was considered a deadly serious, ideological issue, there were five mid-twenties, old friends and then something of a veteran of the local band scene, in a rehearsal room in Kassel in Hessen together to make songs in the style of Sex Pistols, Adverts & Dead Boys. Their quasi-postmodern look at the role models was perhaps a bit more distant than was the case with other punk bands of the time. So they had no problems with it, Rockabilly elements, Sixties Garage, New Wave, Surf & Psychedelic Rock in their music. To make the whole thing clear, they decided to Suits and ties, which amazed an audience that was accustomed to bands in military trousers, T-shirts and Lumberjack shirts to see. In the end, Dog Food Five, with its wild, raw sound, was also the purist of the punk scene convince and also attract people to punk concerts, which actually did not have so much to do with such music. Dog Food Five soon had a record deal and four albums, a split LP and a hand appeared in the next nine years full of singles. Bands like Müllstation and the Shocks covered their songs. In addition, Dog Food Five played hundreds of concerts in half of Europe, the last Christmas 2000 in their hometown Kassel. At that time, playing with stereotypes had become a cliché. Punkattitude was meanwhile become mainstream. Every second band musically relied on the punk and garage canon and suits on stage Punk clubs were such a common sight that nobody could shock them anymore.

UNITED BALLS - Pogo In Togo 1980

The United Balls were founded in Munich 1980 by former musician Jörg Evers, who produced the song Pogo In Togo, a KILLER! track. It reached #1 in Australia and New Zealand and No. 14 in the charts. Later followed by minor hits in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The origins of the combo were in a school band at the Munich Gisela-Gymnasium mid-seventies. The naming was difficult, first "Teen Quo Vadis", then inspired by the current Bauwut "U-Bahnschacht". Soon, the abbreviation "UBS" was preferred, after which the desire for an English name was created, which should be derived from the abbreviation "UBS". The answer was "United Balls". After the first successful live performances in the legendary Schwabing Rigan Club, the band was signed by Jupiter Records where they released two albums. In 1993 singer and composer Harry Kulzer left the band; the remaining members tried in English-speaking guitar pop. In 2005, the band returned in original cast with a performance in Munich on the stage. On May 7, 2011, they presented after 29 years again a CD in original cast. Singer and guitarist Horst Lindhofer studied biology and founded after his doctorate the company Trion Pharma, which together with Fresenius Biotech as the first German biotech company brought a recombinant antibody for approval and marketability. In the 2007 movie Mia Sn Dageng, United Balls call themselves a punk band. Sportfreunde Stiller and several punk bands covered the hit song Pogo in Togo.

THE VICTIMS - All Loud On The Western Front 1989

Recorded @ Sweet Corn Studios, November '77 - March '78, The Victims were formed in Perth in mid-1977 with James Baker on drums (ex-Beheaded/The Geeks), Dave Flick on guitar + vocals (ex-Beagle Boys) and Rudolph V bass guitar. Earlier in that year Baker and Cardwell had founded another punk band, the Geeks, with Ross Buncle on guitar and a vocalist, Lloyd. That group folded in May and their original songs formed the core of the Victims' initial repertoire. The group's sound was based on United States punk pioneers, the Flamin' Groovies, the Heartbreakers, New York Dolls, and the Stooges. Australian musicologist, Ian McFarlane, felt that "with their frantic, explosive sound backed by a solid melodic bent, The Victims became the premier punk band on the Perth scene." Their debut single, "Television Addict", was issued in April 1978 and was followed by a five-track extended play, The Victims, in August of that year. The group disbanded early in the next year. In 1989 Timberyard Records released a compilation album, All Loud on the Western Front, of their material. In late 2014 and early 2015 Baker and Faulkner were joined by Ray Ahn (of Hard-Ons) as the Television Addicts to perform the Victims material. The 2014 and '15 shows were so well received that the trio rightly assumed the band name The Victims and played sold out shows at Rosemount Hotel and Mojo's Bar.

AXODRY - Surrender 12'' 1984

Yeah, victory in Hoffenheim and I'm in the mood to post something completely new and I must confess, I grew up with this band and I have only two records left. Let me give you a bit info: Axodry was the duo of Andreas “Talla 2XLC” Tomalla and Ralf “Ra/Hen” Henrich formed in Frankfurt/Main in 1982. The two met at City Music record store where Talla 2XLC worked and supplied the local DJ scene with dance 12”s. From 1984 to 1991 they released six 12” singles. Both members were leading figures in the European electronic scene during the 80’s and 90’s, forming bands like Bigod 20, Tribantura, Micro Chip League, Moskwa TV, Pluuto and Robotiko Rejekto. In 1988 they released the maxi 12” single “You” on ZYX Records/Combeat. Influenced by Depeche Mode, Gary Numan and John Foxx, the duo crafted their own brand of Industrial, Synth Pop and Electronic Body Music. Their basic set up for recording songs at RaHen’s home studio was a Moog Rouge, Roland SH-101, Teisco synthesizer, Linn Drum and Fricke sequencer. Ra/Hen tackles vocal duties and sings about longing for a lost love. Included on this reissue are the Beauty & The Beat Mix and Beasty Dub Mix from the 1988 single. On the flip is the slightly sped up Razormaid Remix, performed by Art Maharg and Joseph Watt, that originally appeared on the “Welcome To The Technodrome” compilation in 1989. Also included is “Mechanic”, originally released in 1991 as the B-side for their final single “Losing You”. OK folks, that was a lot for today and I guess there is something for everyone.

THE NAILS - Dangerous Dreams 1986

Before I dedicate myself to football this record and I don't know how I got this? Anyway, fact is that also very good new wave music was created overseas, a bit different from the UK sound but The Nails prove with their second album that they had what it took, ten beautiful melodic songs crown Dangerous Dreams and I listen to it a second time in a row (especially the voice of Marc is fantastic). A bit info from wiki: the Nails were originally a five-piece new wave band that formed in Boulder/Colorado in 1976, originally named as the Ravers, and their roadie, Eric Boucher, later became known as Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys. The band members were Marc Campbell (lead vocals, guitar), Dave Kaufman (keyboards), Al Leis (drums), Artie Freeman (lead guitar), and Jon Cormany (bass).

In 1977, the Ravers recorded an EP in Boulder with Screwball Records. The Ravers moved to New York in June 1977 and played the showcase clubs CBGB and Max's Kansas City. Shortly after arriving in NY, The Ravers changed their name to The Nails (there was a local band named Raver). A '45 with the band's original lineup was recorded in New York City in 1978. By mid-1978, Leis (now deceased), Cormany, and Freeman (now a medical school professor) had left the band.

By the late 1970s, The Nails had established themselves on the club circuit and were now composed of vocalist Marc Campbell, bassist George Kaufman, saxophonist Douglas Guthrie, drummer Mike Ratti (Dennis McDermott on Mood Swing), keyboardist Dave Kaufman, and guitarist Steve O'Rourke. Hotel for Women, an EP recorded in 1981, contained an early version of "88 Lines About 44 Women", a song that caught the attention of RCA. The Nails were signed to RCA by Bruce Harris, also known for bringing The Clash to America. In 1984 "88 Lines About 44 Women" was re-recorded for RCA and included on The Nails' full-length debut LP, Mood Swing. The song received regular airplay despite a number of double entendres and lyrical references to masturbation and sadomasochism.

Two years later they released Dangerous Dreams, also on RCA. Both Mood Swing and Dangerous Dreams made the Billboard top 200 album chart and were critically acclaimed. But after the release of Dangerous Dreams The Nails left RCA. RCA did not release either LP on compact disc. "88 Lines About 44 Women" continued to appear on compilations 20 years after its release and was featured in a Mazda television commercial that aired in the late 1990s.

In 1988, the band reconvened (without Guthrie and Dave Kaufman) to record a third album, Corpus Christi, which was not released until 1993 and received little exposure. The Nails deny ever receiving any proceeds from this album, citing a rift with their former producer, claiming that he swindled them of their rights. They posted re-recordings of these songs on the late George Kaufman's site, along with the explanation of the dispute. They strongly discourage fans from purchasing the album, as they will never be compensated.

BIZEX-B - Vi Lever! 1982

Bizex-B is a punk band from Gävle that existed between 1980 and 83 and was recreated in 2005. Bizex-B's first gig was made togehter with PF Commando in March 1980 @ Folkets Hus, Gävle. The band was then composed by Zluggo Pop (Larz Gustafsson) on vocals, Mats "London" Colling (bass), Perra (guitar), Jacob "Kådis" Gordin (drums) and guest singer Pelle Olsson. By the end of 1981 the band entered the studio and recorded their first album "Vi Lever!", which was released early in 1982 in a small edition of 300 copies. One year later the second "En Våldtäkt I Vinyl" on Rebel Records and appeared postum after Bizex-B split in spring 1983. In 2005, the band comeback made two quarters of the original release. Zluggo Pop on mic and Perra (guitar). On drums Fritte Jonasson and bass Urrke T. In September 2006, this "new" Bizex-B recorded its third full-length album "Tillbaka Med En Smäll", released 2007. The first two albums were reissued also in 2007 on remastered CD versions by the Imperial Recordings YKFK label. Zluggo jumped off the band in early 2007 and was replaced by Deep Torkel, known from cult bands like Stoodes and Suzie Beats Them All. The band's last album "Halleluja Jesus Är Din Vän" has been recorded with Deep Torkel in 2009 and 2010 and came out 2012 in a small edition of 100 copies. Present on these compilations.

ALIEN SEX FIEND - Who's Been Sleeping In My Brain? 1983

We stay in the UK and visit Anagram Records and pick up the first Alien Sex Fiend album and they made music without a real bass guitar and they do it fuckin' cool. Yaxi (guitars), Mrs. Fiend (synths), Johnnie (drums) and Nik Fiend (vocals) fuck your brain with ten intoxicating songs and we can hear theit first recordings which are a bit rough and punky and far away from the other upcoming album. Ten goodies here with two single outputs and in this theatre are more to find in form of the I Walk The Line 12'' which was released in 1986. Saw them in the 90's in the legendary Batschkapp and these people are strange and impressively.
