O21 - The Pop Song 7'' 1982

Start December door #4 with a short-lived five piece called O21 from Birmingham and they released their only 7Inch on U:K Pop Records. Three years earlier the legendary Mell Square Musick compilation was released on No Rip Off where they excelled with one song. Their single became a crowd favourite and the small press run was to sell out instantly, the band were now regularly gigging in London with memorable performance at La Beat Route Club and The Cavern in Liverpool. Unfortunately they did not make it to an album and in 1982 the band broke up. In 2001 the title track was used for the unofficial Powerpoppers slab and in 2015 the sub-label Paisley Archive brought a CD (All Was Nothing!) with all the recordings of the band out.

SEX PISTOLS - Rock'N'Roll Swindle 7'' 1979

Everbody knows the Sex Pistols and this is the 7'' which came out 1979 and Side A is the title track of the film, Side B comes with "Rock Around The Clock" which is sung by TenPole Tudor and the complete soundtrack was then released as a double album and is the last 'official' brilliant output by the Pistols. A few words from wikipedia about the film: The Great Rock'N'Roll Swindle (1980) is a mockumentary film directed by Julien Temple and produced by Don Boyd and Jeremy Thomas about the British punk rock band Sex Pistols. Guitarist Steve Jones plays a detective who - through a series of set piece acts - uncovers the truth about the band. Drummer Paul Cook & bass guitarist Sid Vicious play smaller roles, and the band's manager, Malcolm McLaren, is featured as "The Embezzler", the man who manipulates the Sex Pistols. Fugitive train robber Ronnie Biggs, performer Edward Tudor-Pole and actress Irene Handl also make appearances. The movie tells a stylised fictional account of the formation, rise and subsequent breakup of the band, from the point of view of their then-manager Malcolm McLaren. In the film, McLaren claims to create the Sex Pistols and manipulate them to the top of the music business, using them as puppets to both further his own agenda (in his own words - "chaos"), and to claim the financial rewards from the various record labels the band were signed to during their brief history - EMI, A&M, Virgin, and Warner Bros. Records. The footage was filmed in early - mid 1978, between singer John Lydon's departure from the band and their subsequent split. The movie was finally released nearly two years later. Lydon (who was listed in the credits as "The Collaborator") and early bass guitarist Glen Matlock only appear in archive footage - Lydon having refused to have anything to do with the production." The Pistols are great and their songs are still one of the best punk tunes ever, Black Leather, one more 7'' I posted a few months ago for example, I love them!! - If you have not already seen the film so go ahead and buy a copy.

TMA - Beach Party 2000 1987

Final post for today and it's a band that was completely unknown to me until now and I have to say the record is a hammer. Powerful two-minute smasher in just thirty-three total and this is already their second plate on Jimboco Records, excites me completelyWell, a few words from discogs: TMA started out as a three piece in New Brunswick, NJ (Rutgers) in 1981 with Tom (Emanuele), Mike (Demko) and Al (Rosenblum). Lead vocalist Dave Oldfield joined shortly thereafter. The band's moniker either stood for the original band members names or Too Many Assholes, depending on the day of the week and who in the band you asked. Influenced by the Angry Samoans, Black Flag, Circle Jerks and a variety of 70′s punk bands, TMA went on to record What's for Dinner? two years later. During that time, the band played a lot of local gigs at such infamous venues as the Dirt Club, where they built a loyal following and eventually wound up on a live compilation the club released called Hardcore Takes Over (Live @ the Dirt Club). New Jersey had a good hardcore/punk scene in the early 80s with a lot of bands and places to play, besides the Dirt Club, there was the Court Tavern, Roxy, Patrick's and the Melody. TMA were often paired with bands like Detention and Send Help, and played some of their best gigs with the Circle Jerks, Anti-Nowhere League, Government Issue and the Joneses. They also did a few hardcore Sundays at CBGB’s, including a show with the Freeze. Tim Yohannon (R.I.P.) and the staff of Maximum Rock'N'Roll were fans of the band. What's for Dinner? was played a lot in the office and received exposure on Tim's radio show as well. Jello Biafra was also a fan. Nun, I think there is something for everyone with all three posts today and I have promoted you accordingly into the weekend, see ya!

HASS - ... Allein Genügt Nicht Mehr 1981

So that no one falls asleep, I pack out a classic. We look back in 1978, the year which Hass was founded by Steffi (vocals), Jan (bass), Hektor (guitars) and B.A.P. (drums) in Marl and they were known for their direct lyrics against everything that annoys us. First noises were banned on the grandiose Soundtracks Zum Untergang compilation and in 1981 they released their first EP, better known as Rocker (listen here), as self production and a few weeks later this brilliant debut album via H'art Musik with fourteen smasher follows on. A milestone of German subculture in my eyes: rough, brutal, honest & dirty, their best record. All in all they released nine albums and five EP's and on many compilations represent. Hass disbanded in 2001 but in November 2013 they announced their reunification and the last call was 2014 with the 'Kacktus' album on Aggressive Punk Produktionen and a tour through Germany rounded off the life of Hass intoxicating. I saw them live in 1990 or 1991 I think, in Frankfurt/Nibelungenschule with Molotow Soda and another local band and I remember this evening very well, it was cold like now and it was a highlight because cool gigs were rare in the 90s. Hass was and is still part of my grubby punk life, Thx!

CRANES - Inescapable 12'' 1990

The first door in December I want to open with the excellent Cranes and depending on the season, we come to quieter sounds. All four tracks are non-album goodies and come out via Dedicated and I think you will dive into their beautiful dreamy sound like me.

D-DAY - Too Young To Date 7'' 1979

One more interesting record is the debut 7Inch by D-Day, a four piece from Austin/Texas, on Moment Productions and both songs go straight into my ears. The beautiful voice of De Lewellen, the harmonic interaction plus the excellent lyrics make the slab something special and underline once more that Austin was home of a vibrant and attractive scene. Unfortunately, I'm already physically weak and move back to bed, maybe later more.

ABUSE - All I Wanna Do EP 2016

This little piece of Kansas Punk came original out in 1981 on Fresh Sounds in form as flexi and thirty-five years later the Italian label RaveUp Records made a re-press but add an unreleased track. The first 200 copies in pink, the rest in fuckin' black. A few words: Punk rock didn’t come to Topeka, Kansas until 1979, but when it did it hit like an atom bomb. Abuse (1979-1982) took their cue from the Stooges and the New York Dolls and then blended that into a sound all their own. Clay Galbraith’s sneering vocals and slinky bass lines, Willie McNeil’s pile-driver drums, and Chris Garner’s chainsaw guitar created a perfect storm of American rock and roll. Three of these tracks were originally released on Flexi-disc in Bill Rich’s legendary fanzine 'Talk Talk' in 1981, and a fourth unreleased track, 'All I Wanna Do', is included here for the first time ever. This is raw primal rock, the way it was meant to be played!!! - Well, all four songs kick ass and meet my taste.

WARSAW PAKT - Safe & Warm 7'' 1977

Warsaw Pakt was a short-lived punk group which were active in the years of 1977-78, though some of its members had heritages linking them to the 1960s underground. This was apparent in their sound, which was a sophisticated punk thrash with plenty of energy but also more structure than some contemporaries. Drummer Lucas Fox had been in the first incarnation of Motörhead with Larry Wallis of the legendary Pink Fairies, while Colquhoun's other work includes spells in The Deviants and Pink Fairies reunions. Their claim to fame is to have recorded an awesome album Needle Time that was in the shops 24 hours after the first note was recorded (viz the session ended at 10 p.m. on Saturday 26 November 1977 and the album was ready to be sold by 7am on Sunday 27.November 1977). The band was trying to make a point about technology in doing this, and the album sleeve was a 12" square brown bag with stickers and rubber stamping to display the band name and album title. After Warsaw Pakt, guitarist Andy Colquhoun joined Brian James' Youth, subsequently moved on to the band The Pink Fairies, and then a band with ex-MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer. When Needle Time was deleted by Island Records within a week of release (after reputedly selling 5,000 copies), the band released a tape with few out-takes under the title See You In Court before evaporating. The seminal post-punk band Joy Division (at one time called Warsaw), changed its name to the former in late 1977 for fear of being confused with Warsaw Pakt. (source: wikipedia)

NOICE - Bedårande Barn Av Sin Tid 1980

By such many requests that blow my mailbox now for all you junkies the 2nd album by the swedish pop-punker Noice from Gustavsberg. At first compare this with their debut album from 1979 called Tonårsdrömmar then you notice their start & how different this is. A few words: In 1981, Noice went out on a sold out summer tour like a bunch of happy and excited children, when they came home they had lost all the properties and some of the members never recovered properly from the experience. The band became a product and the record company wanted to earn lots of money and strike while the iron was still hot. EMA Telstar promised to take care of the guys (some were not even of age) but it ended with the older rowers provided the boys with drugs and alcohol instead. The lyrics that the band wrote is a bit too pubertal when listening through their adult ears but that's probably what was meant well, they hardly wrote this songs for 30 Plussa! It sounds, however, still unbridled and raw their earliest works, and that's no doubt about who was the "dangerous" in comparison with Halmstads beads. Unfortunately, gave the course of life the inevitable result that it did. Noice broke up in 1982, but reunited for a short time in 1991 and performed a handful of concerts. Keyboardist Freddie Hansson died in late December 2001, some eight months later also died vocalist Hasse Carlsson. - So this album goes more into pop but has with the title track a brilliant KBD Punk Killer!! ready and this alone is worth the download.
