V/A - Killed By Death #2 1989

From my former Blog one more compilation of tracks from extremely rare punk records (1977-1982). First pressing was limited to 700 copies and pressed on black vinyl with yellow and black labels. Killed By Death, a series of bootleg compilations showcasing some of the rarest punk rock to date, keeps this tradition alive. KBD wasn't the only compilation series to take on limited-run and out of print punk, but it had the greatest impact, and continues to be produced today. There's a mostly secret and sordid history behind these compilations; many were produced illegally, and as such, lack contact information. With a very few clues, I set out to explore this bizarre world of "grey-market" punk rock releases. So here comes Volume 2 and a truly great record. One great song after another. If you had to get just one Killed By Death record, you can really take almost every record in my opinion. A classic in far too many ways to even take a stab at here. Still one of the best comps ever. Reissue on red vinyl, same tracks as the original. So KBD never grew out of being KBD, and I will never grow out of listening to it.

This unofficial release via 77 Records is another highlight of rare British punkrock jewels. Volume 1 is already excellent and this platte as well. The songs of these bands appeared in small editions and whose names are unknown to me, therefore peak when I discover such records. The layout is all right with info-sheet and on the back cover all small 7inch images. THE RAVEONETTES - Hollywood, 24.01.2009

Amazing live bootleg by this great combo in a brilliant quality. The Raveonettes are a Danish Rock 'N' Roll duo consisting of Sune Rose Wagner on guitar, instrumentation and vocals, former head of the grunge band Psyched Up Janis and Sharin Foo (on bass and vocals). Their music is characterized by close two-part vocal harmonies, coupled with hard-edged electric guitar overlaid with liberal doses of noise. Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of 50's and 60's rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats and often dark lyrical content. The duo met in Copenhagen and began recording "Whip It On", on which they handled all production chores by themselves. Adding guitarist Manoj Ramdas and jazz drummer Jakob Hoyer, the Raveonettes booked one of their first gigs at the SPOT festival in Århus, the second largest city in Denmark. "Whip It On" was elected "Best Rock Album of the Year" at the Danish Music Awards 2003, and The Raveonettes were picked as being among the harbingers of the "Next Wave" of contemporary music. The band is incidentally very big fans of Fender instruments. The song selection is an excellent cross-section of their albums which I can only highly recommend you to buy their stuff .So enjoy this rare piece of harmonic sound right now.

APA - Häftig Bil EP 1987

Another unknown band from Sweden and I'm always amazed how many bands were active at this time, good for us today! Apa (Apologistskolans Punk Angsambel) started in 1979 and founded at the Tessin School Gymnasium in Nyköping by Carl (vox), Peter (guitar), Fredrik (drums) and Stefan (bass). They were a pure cover band and exercised all the classics of the Sex Pistols and Iggy Pop and have them in their live repertoire. But soon began write own songs. The newly founded record label Studio Otukt became aware of Apa and they released two 7Inches. Häftig Bil is their first record with four goodies and I wish, I could understand what they singing. I guess the lyrics are very ironic, how else can I 'Dr Mengele' with Sieg Heil bawling indicate? Egal, overall impression is positive and I like polarizing stuff.

TOMMI STUMPFF - Zu Spät Ihr Scheißer 1982

In the beginning of the 80's, Tommi Stumpff was the singer of the Düsseldorf-based punk band der KFC, one of the most hated punkbands around. Born in Belgium, he got in contact with Belgian industrial and proto-EBM soon and started a solo-career in this field after Der KFC went defunct. From 1982 he went solo and released his debut album, "Zu Spät, Ihr Scheisser", which was pressed only in a quantity of 3.000 units, a result of the previous record company in bankruptcy barrier. In 1983 follows the single "Contergan Punk" on the specially founded label Giftplatten. The single was produced by Conny Plank and led the electro-punk sound of his debut consistently, but dropped out and had much harder because of their aggressiveness typical EBM structures. The hardness of "Contergan Punk" could, however, until the late 1980s once again be achieved. Above all, the 1989 released album "Ultra" is still regarded as an outstanding work. In 1993 he ended his musical career, he now works in the IT industry. Tommi Stumpff started 2007 to rehearse again. On 1st February 2008, in Düsseldorf a KFC-concert was held at a birthday party of Tommi Stumpff. He was ahead of his time with this sound and due to lacking success dropped being an active musician.

BLITZKRIEG - Animals In Lipstick EP 1983

Second record on Sexual Phonograph by Blitzkrieg, an English punk rock band, based in Southport and formed in 1979. They made a distinct contribution to the UK hardcore punk scene and have strong underground following. Despite the Nazi connotations of the name Blitzkrieg, German for "Lightning-War", they took a fiercely anti-Nazi stance. Their first song on vinyl was a contribution to the grandiose A Country Fit For Heroes compilation on No Future Records in 1982, one year later follows the first 7Inch 'Lest We Forget'. The Animals in Lipstick EP featured an aggressively anti-vivisection theme, and their most popular recorded song to date, "Conscience Prayer", an anti-society polemic, it reached No.30 in the Indie Chart in 1983. Soon after the release the band broke up, then appeared in the 90s for four years and since 2007 again present and in 2008 they released their last album 'Everything Is Lies' on Dumbdown Records. So let's get ready for good ole UK punk.

SØT HÆVN - Asfaltparasitta EP 1981

From the far north of Europe comes the next band, exactly from Tromsø/Norway. Per Eirik Johansen was in August lead singer of Søt Hævn, and war conditions during a few concerts gave the desire to create a band, the line-up was Per Eirik Johansen (vocals), Erik Smith-Meyer (guitars), Knut Nilsen (drums) & Alf Sigurd Krogseth (bass). In October, they went with Norgez Bank in the studio to create the first northern Norwegian punk single. The rivalry between these two bands had been going on for a while, and was reinforced through the punkfanziner that appeared around the turn of the year 80-81. Søt Hævn has however difficult to find a producer that would multiply their debut. The band had to wait until closer to February before they could distribute their kicks to the then Crown Princess Sonja, and took it as a compliment that the song was never broadcast on radio. Later in 1981 they established the Rock Club on the map of Norway, and organized concerts and they were most successful. In the end of 1981 their first and only classic four track EP 'Asfaltparasitta' was released on Søt Recordz and one song on the essential Anarki & Kaos compilation. Enough words again - care for this classic stuff!

V/A - Best Perfumes Of The Revolution 7'' 1982

So much new stuff and it's time to bring something from those among to light. I begin with this little split 7inch. Released via the French label Blitzkrieg Records and just found on the A-side a crazy Chinese band to which I can't say any words, except that they celebrate here the classic Anarchy in the UK (also on Bloodstains Across The World) herein a totally crazy version, is this still singing or what?? The mic-man is 100% wacky, how else goes it, damn cool! The flip is a teamwork of two Polish bands, Kryzys and Deadlock, and their 'I'm On The Top' is a nice 4:22 stomper. Which idea stands behind this small piece of plastic remains only to guess, sure is both goodies are absolutely first class and you can see them on any good compilation.

- Huge Thx to Fredrik -
