PSYCHED UP JANIS - Beats Me 1997

Brrr, Rain outside and I'm not really in the mood to go out. I guess this becomes a train day....Fuck! - Well, first another pearl of music history. Certainly it's already known to everyone in blogland that I give preference to Scandinavian punk and find their sound more interesting than some UK/US band. About Psyched Up Janis I will not write much, you can read it for  yourself. They are very popular in Denmark, possibly in the UK (most of their albums were recorded there) but that was it. This band deserves, in my opinion, more attention. Even with this album (their second) prove Sune, Jacob and drummer Jesper they are gifted musicians and write melodic hard songs which piss forward. In between a few melancholy ballads and the sun shines again in Denmark. If someone didn't know a note by this fuckin' awesome band then quickly change that situation.

V/A - Paris Mix 1982

Another one from my old Blog and a highlight that I have not heard a long time but it was requested and it would be a shame if the songs here were only archived. Paris: Eiffel Tower, Sacre Coeur, Montmartre, the Louvre, Champs-Elysées...the city of love and pretty Punk stuff. On this compilation are relatively unknown bands present and the sound here's not the typical french punk style, they go more towards into wave with a dark touch (except Swingo Porkies & Prop' Sack, they brilliant '77 punk). Never boring and each track has it's own charm and the dash of melancholy just fits to the French language in my opinion. Released on Zeb Records and only 2000 copies of this record were pressed.

2.Rebellion - GUERNICA
3.Vie Parisienne - ZONA
4.Boule Quies - ZONA

V/A - Shakedown! Original Brisbane Punk 1978-83

Pooh, a sleepless night behind me and a long nine hours day ahead. I'm a little exhausted, yesterday was a pleasant and sunny day with lots of alcohol and surprises that makes me partly speechless. Well, we'd better come to the next post and this was requested by some of you. Dropkick Records released this cool compilation in 2003 with five bands from Brisbane. All their rare 7inches are thereon which they put out on the Brisbane labels Savage Music and Shake Music. Consistently great stuff except the Just Urbain songs are not mine but the order is chosen carefully so they slip the way through. I would rather stay in bed and cuddle a little.

1.Guns & Guitars - JUST URBAIN
2.Burning - JUST URBAIN
3.Burning Part 2 - JUST URBAIN
4.Positive Thinking - YOUNG IDENTITIES
5.Convultions - YOUNG IDENTITIES

THE CURE - @ Melkweg/Amsterdam 12.12.1979

"Take My Hand, You know I'll Be There, If You Can, I'll Cross The Sky For Your Love".... Sorry, I'm in the wrong song. Well I heard to a couple of songs which I have new and maybe I post a selfmade comp. sometime but I'm not sure if I want to make. I'm amazed that in the previous post about the behavior of people within a short time a number of comments up there, it seems a lot of you have also made "negative" experiences with people. I don't wanna discuss further and let this so. Now I listen to The Cure, the band I think with the most Bootlegs ever. I have a few and this is an awesome one from their first period, I mean after the first full great album, their sound has been extreme dark and was a huge break. Well, each of you know what to expect, the sound here is consistently brilliant, the song selection is okay, cover fits, and I don't know where I got this rip. Ist eh scheißegal, comes close to my mood today and I say "Cheers!, take me in your arms and don't fade away!"

Seventeen Seconds/Accuracy/M/10:15 Saturday Night/Play For Today/In Your House/Fire In Cairo/A Forest/Three Imaginary Boys/Jumping Someone Else's Train/Another Journey By Train/Killing An Arab/Subway Song/Grinding Halt/Boys Don't Cry/A Forest (At Night)

CRANES - Forever 1993

It's Sunday, a day I like, everything can happen. But I must tell you, I'm confused. I'm always confused because I can't understand people. I don't wanna tell you much about my experiences I've made but I don't understand them at all. Well, let's leave this behind and now I have to post this record.

If I speak about Cranes I will post their album which I first came in touch with this extraordinary band. I can still remember it very well. I was there with a new girl and we came very close and casually ran this record and as I was able to think clearly again, I asked her about it. That's it, long long time ago. Every relationship has its good. So at this moment I start to listen to Cranes and bought more stuff. Here's a small sample of info from their MySpace site: "Originally based on the south coast of England in Portsmouth, Cranes first album 'Self non Self' had a peculiar intensity which seemed all the more unusual at the time. John Peel picked up on the album right away, with the group recording a session for him in the album's first week of release. Some intense media interest followed and shortly afterwards the group signed to Dedicated-BMG (which also became home to Spiritualized and Beth Orton) and went on to record five albums. Cranes' is a blend of celestial atmospheric rock and metaphysical minimalist electronics, made instantly recognisable by Alison Shaw’s childlike vocals and Jim Shaw’s uniquely inventive compositions. Much has been made of Alison Shaw's vocals, with descriptions ranging from "the helium tones of a small child", "baby-doll-voiced", and "a mewling, childish wisp of a voice". One reviewer described the band: "Imagine a small child singing lullabies at the bottom of the well with a background of grinding guitars" After the release of Population 4 in 1997 the band fell silent for a period of approximately four years and in 2000, the Shaws formed a new line-up and began writing music again and they're still active." - Cranes are a notable band and transport joy/love/yearning in your heart.

V/A - Hart Aber Herzlich 1986

Another interesting compilation is this record which was released by Korrekt-Records. Divided into two different styles of music. The "hard" side is packed with aggressive represented German punk bands from the top league during the "hearty" side comes with four wave bands which doesn't tell me much and maybe they have probably released only one demo or so in their lifetime, but who cares. The idea of this record worked. Completely audible, surprisingly cool songs and a charming artwork makes this rare platter one of the better German underground sampler in the whole wide punk ocean.

1.Paranoia - TOBSUCHT
2.Too Ambitious - BOIKOTTZ
3.Frankreich - BOIKOTTZ
4.Schränker - SPRINGTOIFEL

7.Our Youth - MICHAEL KOMAH
8.Nothing's Real - BODY & THE BUILDINGS

V/A - Everything Is Shit: Punk In Brussels 1977-1979

OK, now we come to another highlight earlier punk history in Europe. We cross the border to the left and find our neighbors from Belgium. There was in the glory days of the end 70er hard going on and it's amazing how many bands there join the punk movement and spit out a few records. Well, the title of this compilation reflects the feelings at this time and today is certainly seen global perspective as aptly. In Brussels, it was a handful of venues, improvised concerts, a few dozens of people recognizing each other, and a festival that gathers everyone: the First Belgian Punk Contest, at the Vieux Saint-Job, on 18 March 1978. Since these bands had very short lifespans, there were a lot of interactions while other configurations gave birth to key bands of the next decade. The 7inches are now damned rare and very hard to find, this record is filled with stuff we all know and a few things that hardly anyone knows so far. If you like the Bloodstains Belgium section and the Bloody Belgium Bootleg then is this piece of cream perfect. Can't tell if this is a Bootleg record and sadly there are no info-sheets inside but all in all an awesome release and a must have!!!
