Mrtvi Kanal was punk band from early 80's, from town of Rijeka, Croatia/former Yugoslavia. They never made it to the vinyl which unfortunately was a cause with many former Yugoslavian bands, but this awesome compilation of their early recordings is an absolute classic. They started as a classic punk band but soon they developed to a darker punk/new wave sound, and they had very powerful lyrics as well. They sing in Croatian about socially related stuff with razor sharp punk sarcasm that even had no mercy for punks as well, old punk from around here, a real identity and not just a life style fashion to fit in. Electric harmonica as a constant equal instrument in the band's sound collage in itself gives testimony to their proper tone. Past and future of the Compilation edition that the first seven songs combines footage emerged on the tape that was in 1983, therefore, at the very end of their career, shared with the group Cramp, while the remaining six shots from the very beginning of the bands career in 1979. The older material, unfortunately, is primarily characterized by poor sound quality, which is why some songs irritating to listen more carefully. Great pity, but I guess that's about it made the best deal possible. Feel it, of course, in music, but the most bother the ears of the vast differences in image quality. This release to me is all the more worthwhile & interesting, and definitely recommend to all lovers of punk and ''The Past & Future'' is another excellent album from the musically most significant period of Rijeka and forms a necessary part of the collection of new wave fans. In any case, praise edition.

TILT - Runął Już Ostatni Mur EP 1985
Tilt is a Polish wave/punk/rock band and regarded as one of the first punk bands in Poland. Founded in Warsaw in 1979 they've been existing with several breaks until now. This is their first release (Already Collapsed Last Wall) with 3 numbers. Special mention here that the saxophone is an integral part in all songs and it is my opinion here a good idea. I do not know a lot of punk bands that used at that time such a Instrument. All sung in Polish which give the songs a special charm. A very good first output and their best one. The following albums are too much poppy to me. Check it out.
PSYCHED UP JANIS - I Died In My Teens EP 1995
Psyched Up Janis was a Danish rock band started by Sune Rose Wagner, now a member of The Raveonettes, Martin Bjerregaard, and Jakob Jørgensen. They played their first concert in Sønderborg under the name of Western Front, in 1989. Psyched Up Janis recorded their first demo entitled I Never Change in 1992. That year, the band moved to Copenhagen and Martin Bjerregaard joined the band as drummer. The trio went to Sweden to record the first, self-financed, record, I Died In My Teens. The song by the same name made Single of the Week in Kerrang! This EP is very rare and is one of pure class which supplies you with solidlinks, steady bass riffs, obsurd lyrics and excellent music. A band that not many people have heard of. So get it right now.

ASB - Never 7'' 1983
From the French side in Switzerland came this short-lived band called ASB (Area Sole Band) and they were formed October 1980 by Jean-Jacques Olivary (guit), Blaise Schmidli aka Blaze (bass), Thierry Savary (vox & guit), and Yvan Mettraux (drums) in Yverdon, near Lausanne. They released in total three 45ers, all self-produced and today all rarities. I couldn't find more info about the band and even the swiss Bible of Punk only mention them!!! The A-side is a short mid-tempo number and the right track for another Killed By Death compilation while the flip is more reggae/mambo influenced. Nothin' wrong here, a fine record.
BLITZ - Heil Reagan 7'' 1981
It even sometimes funny, because I'm looking for this little pearl for years and now I got them sent twice. These are the beauty moments of a bloggers life, haha....here I found a little review which which I can only underline. "The first work of this Berlin quintet is truly brilliant. 'Heil Reagan' has powerful rhythm from bass and drums, plus a frenzied guitar and english vocals. Very interesting-sounding female voice. Real Underground. 'No Time' is a real melodic reggae-influenced song that suddenly goes off, the voice is insane. For me, one of the best singles of the year 1981." (Eugene Honold, Pretty Vacant No.8, 1981) - They later also appears on the awesome Soundtracks Zum Untergang (coming soon) compilation under a new name (and more wavish approach) M.D. BLITZ and then it became quiet around the band.
- Special Thx goes to Fredrik & KHS -
THE OUT - Who Is Innocent? 7'' 1979
So, X-Mas is over and forward into routine. YES!!, this is everytime a sunny moment & all the shit here's quickly present. UUAARRGGHHHHH!!!! "Leber Geht Weiter!!!" and here's a fine piece of vinyl which was released on Rabid Records and it's the first record by English combo The Out. Side A is a refreshing PowerPop song with a nice keyboard intro and then turned into a melodic shiny guitar sound, support with driving drums, a number one song I would say, the flip is also cool, more punk background here. So in the end, a fantastic record and if anyone has their second (Better The Devil 7'') for me this would be nice. Aloha and out!!

EA80 - Dezember EP 1989
Last post for today and its good those damn fuckin' days are gone. This is the very best punk Christmas record I know so far. Why? Well, EA80 is in fact the best german punk band in the world and all the four songs here are AWESOME!!! And they present these in english so that everyone hillbilly understands what the band thinks of fuckin' Christmas. This EP was only sold in the last three weeks before Christmas in three consecutive years (1989-1991). Today a coveted collector's item. I think, I bought my copy in the beginning of the 90s, but I'm not sure, anyway. There is not much to report because every release from EA80 is brilliant and for those who heard this band name for the first time: Caution! They Infectious!!! - And now, dear people I'm leaving you and wish you all a rest nice damn Christmas and come all across well.
V/A - Navidades Radioactivas 1983
This nice X-Mas compilation was released by the Spanish label DRO, mainly with releases of Spanish new wave groups, from pop to punk or industrial. (today, the DRO label is owned by Warner Music Spain, S.A.) The song selection on this LP goes exat in this direction. Each in its own way pretty charming and the versatility of this LP makes this interesting. I love this album and I'm sure you too. Highlights are Aviador Dro, TNT and Siniestro Total. DOG DETACHMENT - Machines 7'' 1982
A band which I never heard before is Dog Detachment and they were a new wave/punkrock band formed by the Armstrong brothers in Johannesburg in 1980, first playing under the name "Dog". They played a subversively independent, high pressure brand of rock that they themselves referred to as "Stormtrooper Pop". Their first album, "The Last Laugh" was completed in 1983 and it's a fuckin' blast. They unleashed the title track upon an unsuspecting media, and blew the public away. They released three albums and singles and this here is their 2nd release with two awesome tracks. In 2001 RetroFresh released a Compilation CD called 'Best Kept Secrets' an overview from their three albums with rare tracks added. The best of a band that did not believe in compromise. Very interesting band that you would like to hear more.

One more goes today and this record is I think the first post in Blogland. No Idea how many copies exist but I think not much. Anyway, this compilation is full with rare punk goodies and again via Redrum Records brought into the world, the bootleg label based on Venus.
