V/A - Smashed Again!!! [Special] 2013

It's time to post another selfmade compilation which I made for our vacations and it gets me very sad but I think you will like it. Here's the original description from my old Blog: I'm still amazed that Forward Into The Past is yet popular and is still online, shows that you have taste ;). I also think that comp. is well done and a worthy successor was a real challenge. But here it is: again full with rare music from the early punk days mixed with new stuff, punkrock from all over the world. Once again my deepest thanks to all my blogger friends, supporters and those who provide me with songs and information, and of course those who leave their comments. And here I would like to ask the following question for you and tell me your opinion: How do you like this comp, what song and why exactly this song? Don't spare criticism, numerous comments would be nice. I'm excited to see what comes of you. With this post ends the week with temporarily various stuff and I think it was not a bad choice. Enjoy this cracker and have a relaxed Saturday!

MFD - All Of This EP 1987

For those of you who don't know who M.F.D. is, they were a mid-tempo, melodic punk band from D.C. who were active in the mid-to-late-'80s, rubbing shoulders with the likes of greats such as Government Issue & Black Market Baby, really catchy tunes that had one foot in punk and one foot solidly in rock. This EP was their first release by DSI Records in 1987. Melodic and intelligent DC hardcore, but closer to the GI's sound than to the other Dischord bands; they're expanding and improving the sound of their first LP without experimenting too much. Tight, tuneful, and songs that will be remembered. Great stuff.

SERENE FALL - Rares & Demos 1994-2008

Since I find no sleep again so I gladden you now with a special cream pie for all my true followers (or not), dark punkrockers and all the other revelers in Europe. All the pieces here are 90% unpublished (in these versions) because there are rehearsal recordings, outtakes, demos or songs that can't be found on their website. Lovingly compiled by me and my special thanks go to Maul, singer (EA80 guitar) who sent me these rare cuts and make this compilation possible. After more than ten years ago their third CD is out and we can be grateful that Serene Fall go ahead because several reshuffles forced the band almost to the final resolution. But now they're back and the new album is quite brilliant and brings us with their melancholy mood through the winter and Maul's expressive voice gives every song a special touch, download is a must! And if you don't know the music here's my invitation.

ROSENGARTEN - Demo 1987

Here's a very fine tape which is very good and brings the gray season closer back again. Founded in Salzwedel, they exist from 1985 - 1990, Rosengarten was a band from the underground scene of the GDR. Nucleus was the timeless music & fun project Art Of Steel (with Carstensson and Hilke), by addition of Thönert, Füchsel and Fütterer they were complete and changed their band name in Rosengarten (borrowed by the Bauhaus song "Rosegarden Funeral Of Sores"). Differences in fall of 1986 led to the departure of Carstensson and Helge and Marion Semlow joined the band. Rosengarten record until 1989 three extremely complex and legendary "Tape Albums" and in the last year of their existence only drummer Thönert of the original line-up was in. At the turn of the time most of the members had been settled in Berlin and the band broke up, there was not a public resolution confirmed but then there was no more news about the band, silence remains. So musically the band's at home in a melancholic, darker sound with partially theatrical lyrics, here with some live recordings and the keyboards come cumbersome accompanying I think and the singer is nice desperate and angry. I must say their sound is really catchy and it's a pity that no label has invited the ladies and gentlemen to gave them a chance for an album, Assholes!! More Rosengarten on tapeattack. Well, if you love music from V.V.L., Wegschaun...Gold, EA80 or Ende November then try Rosengarten and listen carefully. It's worth!!!

WASTED YOUTH - Jealousy 7'' 1980

Damn good 7inch with two fine numbers, their 2nd one. Band info from wikipedia: "Wasted Youth were an East London post-punk band who became a small phenomenon across Europe playing their dark psychedelic bohemian rock. The band were active between 1979 and 1982, which blended early Goth and post-punk with dark acoustic strains of the sort associated with Nick Drake and Syd Barrett. The line-up of the band was Ken Scott (vox & guitar), Rocco Barker (guitar), Nick Nicole (synth), Darren Murphy (bass) and Andy Scott (drums). Their records were released through Bridgehouse Records, a label set up by the bass player's father in the pub he owned in Canning Town. Wasted Youth emerged from the remnants of mid 1970s heavy rock band "Warrior", fronted by Ken Scott. The band were largely influenced by Black Sabbath until the punk explosion at which point Scott split the group, due to its reluctance to embrace the new sound. There was brief collaboration with writer David W. Kirby (a.k.a. Dwk The Dogbreaths) who recited verse over the top of extended rhythm sections during live sets. Rocco Barker went on to form the band Flesh For Lulu and was in the Channel 4 show, A Place in Spain: Costa Chaos. Classic Rock (magazine) reported that the band's bassist, Darren Murphy, died of cancer on the 15th February 2012." - I added their first 7inch 'I'll Remember you' in this file, Get both!

V/A - There Is No Reason To Be Happy EP 1989

A pretty gem of sophisticated punkrock music from Europe is this little piece of plastic. I purchased this EP at a concert in Hamburg, a local club named 'Marquee' anno 1989 and I think I did it because of the cool cover, the bands at that time told me nothing. And sometimes that's not a bad reason. 4 bands/6 songs and all of them small works of art. Very impressive are the Yugoslavian parts, three short & aggressive firecrackers with a singer who has made the right decision for himself. This is a punkrock voice and I can not imagine him as a seller of shoes, hahaha...but also convince the other bands here with their songs. A small varied piece of 100% punkrock which hits the nail on the head, 500 copies on Artcore Records.

1.My Life - W.D.M.
2.Sto Stopnic - 3.KATEGORIJA
3.Brŝljan - 3.KATEGORIJA
4.Alkoholna - 3.KATEGORIJA
5.Differences - MARTIAL LAW
6.Fuggi Fuggi - I REFUSE IT

THE ROUSERS - A Treat Of New Beat 1980

A real masterpiece of PowerPop classic is the debut record by this combo. The Rousers from Broek op Langedijk (near under the smoke of Alkmaar) were one of the first Dutch New Wave bands. Inspired by the new momentum in the British pop music the band was founded on 19 September 1977 by the brothers Cock (vox + guitars) and Jan de Jong (drums), along with Rob Marienus (bass) and Theo van der Plas. In the beginning they play their own work and some covers. They played songs by The Beatles, The Damned, The Ramones and The Buzzcocks and this combination would determine the sound that the band develops and that they refer to themselves as New Beat. In January 1979 the Wieb (guitars) and Bonne Zigtema (vox) brothers join the band, Theo left. In the same year the first 7inch 'Magazine Girl' was released on Ariola/Torso and became a legend. Quickly they became celebrated, no wonder with their bright guitars, polyphonic harmonies and rhythmic clapping, the influence of the early beat music is clearly cognisable. Nevertheless, the band has a distinctly contemporary sound. After this record the band released all in all three singles and a second album called 'Touched'. 1981 the band broke up and split into The Thought and The Shavers. If you want more from the Rousers visit Frank's ShotgunSolution blog for the rest. By the way, the grandiose cover reminds me a little of Hergé. A Treat Of New Beat is truly one of the best albums I've heard this year.

NO MANS LAND - Anything At All 12'' 1988

No Mans Land were a Sydney band playing the traps from 1984 to 1988. They were fronted by the wild but gentle Dave Slade. Prior to No Mans Land, Dave was singing in The Mercy Killers (1984). They were in need of a new bass player and the obvious choice was Dave's friend Jim Leone. However, the band soon broke up and FRANKENSTINE was born with No Mans Land soon to follow. The early line up were Dave Slade (vox), Jim Leone (bass), Mark Welsh (drums), Peter Bennett (keys) and Mark Rostron (guit). When Peter left, Mick Duncan joined on guitar and keyboards, coming from the short lived Via Satellite where he was renowned for his frocks. Their first demo tape was released in 1985 and the first single plus a mini-album called "Savage Brides" followed a year later. Their last release is this 12'' here with two wavie gloomy numbers and I like the deep striking voice, beautiful melancholic and a damn good record. By the end of 1988 No Mans Land was no more and all band members are still active.

DUESENJAEGER - Las Palmas O.K. 2004

Well, hard days now and it's good to go out and join a concert. Yesterday and today are Turbostaat in town and last evening Duesenjaeger were opener and it is sometimes nice when I see a band which is great and I not hear them long ago. The band was founded 1999 and after two nice EP's their debut album saw the light of day in 2004 on GoKart Records. "E minor, melancholic, impulsive and angry. German punk, punk rock with German lyrics", so the band describes their sound in a few words, and that's enough. More albums followed until 2008, then Duesenjaeger was history.

End of 2010 they receive an invitation and play a concert. "It itched us again in the fingers". Quick their own label Grabeland Schallfolien was born and new songs were recorded, released and live presented (what they have clearly demonstrated yesterday)...and that's a good thing! Jungs, weiter so - Danke!
