V/A - We Don't Need Nuclear Force 1985

Another important but small German punk label was Mülleimer Records from Stuttgart which put out some very good records from 1981-1986. Bands like Chaos-Z, Boskops, Normahl, Herbärds, Inferno and Maniacs, etc.. were thus known and this piece I think is the only international compilation on MR. The first pressing contained a strictly limited bonus EP and is much sought nowadays. A little review brings the sound to the point: "A pretty good world sampler featuring mostly previously released material that falls under the ranks of punk, hardcore, and post-punk. Some of the talents in the limelight are BOSKOPS, VARUKERS, TOXIC REASONS, RATTUS, WHITE FLAG, BRISTLES, and many others." - Martin Sprouse (from Maximum Rocknroll #36, May 1986)
A good start for Sunday hopefully tonight ends with 3 points.

CRISE TOTAL - E A Crise Continua 1996

Another example here, this band needs more than ten years to put out a record and the reason why I honestly can't understand because this music kicks every stupid asshole and if I had a label these times I would take it immediately. Crise Total (Total Crisis) were formed in 1983 in two Lisbon suburbs (Algueirao & Portela), they were pioneers of the Hardcore/Punk movement in Portugal along with bands like Mata-Ratos/Ku de Judas/Cagalhoes/etc. they just had 25thaniversary & still going strong! The first line-up included Manolo (voice), John Philip (drums), Rui Ramos (guitar) and Paul Vial (bass). From the start they're at home in the early british and american 80's Hardcore sound, rough, fast and angry, although after six years it turned into a bit more post-punkish thing which saw the band changing their name. Their first song onto vinyl was on the great Ao Vivo No Rock Rendez Vous Em compilation from 1984. They were also present on a few tape comps and on the 1989 Tour De Farce #3 record. They had several line-ups but most of the time and recently the dynamic duo Manolo and Rui."They celebrated 25 years of Crise Total and since then the band has continued to gig every time its possible since Manolo lives in the U.K. these days, the begining of next year they are getting together to record a new album or maybe a split...ahhh, also when they had they're 25th aniversary a live cd was put out in form of celebration with some of the old recordings from the '80's...this is the short version bio and for now we know that that the crisis does continue, for how long we don't know but thats the way things are." (Manolo '09). E A Crise Continua is the debut record, released on Fast'n'Loud Records and full with sixteen crisis-proof songs. Hossa!!!

V/A - Six Of The Best 1979

Looking to South Africa and meet this compilation which was posted three years ago by Girls From Tahiti blog and I must confess that album passed me by, why? no idea. So I'm glad here's it again. So this record isn't a real punk album, goes more in the alternative direction but notable mostly for the two Wild Youth cuts which are only on this comp. In just over 25 minutes, the music rushes through and I find pleasure in it. In addition to Wild Youth come the Leopard tracks very cool. Certainly not a piece of vinyl for I would spend € 50,- or more but overall interesting stuff, incidentally cool cover. Released on WEA records.

1.Record Companies - WILD YOUTH
2.Underestimator - LEOPARD
3.I Know What I Like - SAFARI SUITS
4.Inside I'm Cryin' - BILL FLYNN
5.Victim's Victim - CORPORAL PUNISHMENT
6.Boys And Bitches - LEOPARD
7.I Don't Want Your Guillotine - ROGER LUCEY
8.A South African In Paris - SAFARI SUITS
9.Goddess Of Depression - CORPORAL PUNISHMENT
10.All Messed Up - WILD YOUTH

- Many Thx to Fredrik -

UHF - Rua Do Carmo 7'' 1981

Here's a special single of my Portuguese favourite band UHF. "Rua Do Carmo," offers two classics, the A-side is from the album "À Flor Da Pele" and the B-side "(Vivo) Na Fronteira" is an exclusive track. Both songs brings again brilliant pop/punk/rock at its best. I love these guys. If you have the chance to see them live then go out. Damn good record and always in our record player on vacation.

CANAL TERROR - Zu Spät 1983

Next classic German Punk album is the debut record from Canal Terror and I don't know how many times I played this LP up and down: angry, aggressive, rebellious music which has nothin' lost of their rudeness. Founded 1980 in Bonn by Tommy, Volker and Dominik, 15 to 17 years old, in the following year 14-year-old drummer Rainer completed the band. 1981 published the first demo recordings and a Super-8 film on which they introduced for the first time their most popular song 'Staatsfeind'. In December, the band participated on the compilation Soundtracks Zum Untergang 2 (AGR). Canal Terror played this year their first concerts outside of Cologne and Bonn with Black Flag, Minutemen, Slime, OHL, etc... More demo tapes were released in the following two years. In December 1982 they recorded their debut LP, appeared due to differences with label boss Karl-Ulrich Walterbach, in the spring of 1983. Tommy left the band in 1983 after internal disputes and Rainer moved to the micro. Ex-Toxoplasma bassist Stefan came as a drummer. Frank Glienke ("KutA") was for a few concerts the second guitarist but left the band very soon. The group toured again with Razzia, Inferno, Neurotic Arseholes, Boskops, Die Ärzte, etc... and the recordings for the compilation Underground Hits 2 emerged. Again it come to quarrels and Dominik and then Volker left the band. The band continued until 1984 by Rainer and Stefan and with other members. On the Dutch sampler 'Babylon Bleibt Fahren' the song "Staatsfeind" was in a live version on it and shortly after this release the band split up for good. In December 1991 the band played in the original line-up a unique concert in the Biscuithalle/Bonn, together with Toxoplasma, Die Skeptiker and the British band Urge. In 1992 Red Rossetten Records released a CD with recordings of this gig under the title "Live In Bonn". AGR reissued without the permission of the band their first album in the 90's and so Canal Terror secured in a trial against AGR the rights to their songs. A Review: "Canal Terror produce diverse hardcore material on their debut album, including full-tilt thrash ("Multis," the title cut, etc.), Oi!-influenced stuff ("Bonn-Duell"), '77 punk with melodic guitars ("100 Mann"), reggae-punk mixtures ("Mallorca"), some cool Rock'N'Roll ("Hey"), and even a funnypunk version of "My Bonnie." The guitars should have been emphasized more in the mix, but this record is still entertaining as hell." - Jeff Bale (from MMR #8, September 1983) / That's the story so far, for me another major record which is second to none today.

SLUTS - Bäh!!! 1982

German Punk classic and one of my favorite: Braunschweig early 1980, three guys and one girl got together and decided from now on to make Krach! - the birth of Sluts: Schlampe on the mic, Pelle torments the guitar, Kat tugged on bass and Peter sat on the drums. The Berlin based label Aggressive Rockproduktionen (AGR) set with this release a high standard and "Bäh!!!" is a milestone of German Anarcho-Punkrock. This album is like a drug, don't get confused by all the wankers who criticize this album as a typical punk cliché. Short and concise songs with brilliant lyrics. Unfortunately, their only album with this line-up. When I rip the LP, I found this music lost none of its freshness, hardness and energy. And who listen to this record once stays forever punk & the feeling never goes out (I felt that with many records but this here is every time a blast!), and here I feel like going on the road and hit someone in the face, Streetfight...hell Yeah!!!! In the following two years, the band played several times in Braunschweig and environment, but the end was approaching rapidly and in 1982 Sluts disbanded. Schlampe and Peter joined in 1983 Aktive Notwehr, which were reactivated at this time. Pelle went to Heidelberg and founded 1986 Sluts new. To show that it's not the original band, the name has been attached with an N (new). Since then the band called SLUTS'N. Several years with several line-up changes followed, especially the singer changed frequently, only Pelle on guitar held by constant. Martin sit on the drums since 1988 and sits there even to this day. In this current triple-cast Sluts'N have played around 30 live gigs and released two 7inches and two albums. Overall, Bäh!!! is full of mid-to slow tempo numbers with good strong hooks. ESSENTIAL!!!!!!!!

V/A - Musikverket EP 1980

Stranded Rekords, sometimes just called Stranded, is a Swedish record label founded in 1979 by Klas Lunding. The label was as a continuation of the fanzine Stranded, started in 1978 in Stockholm, which published texts on the new music style, new wave and punk. Their first release is this EP called Musikverket, which came out 1980 and the songs were recorded live in Stockholm and all tunes are fuckin' amazing. Travolta Kids, Incest Brothers or Watabout here are the known bands and they released a few records too, the other bands are probably dayflys and only here on it. Aside from all they do their job excellent and the recording sound quality is worth hearing and after 13 minutes the spook's already over. Worse luck! Stranded's motto was "Style, Beauty & Elegance." That hits the nail on the point I would say. Polar Music bought into the company in 1982 to completely take over in 1984 and then close down the label in 1986. What remains is another KBD pearl which will no longer wait to be heard.

1.Hur Ska Det Gå - WATABOUT
2.Progressiv - STALIN BOYS
3.Ajo Ajo - INCEST BROTHERS
4.Falsk Matematik - TRAVOLTA KIDS
5.Glass - QUIZZ KIDS
6.Vi Tjejer E En Blaska - ANKSDANK
7.Jag E Allan - OINKS

V/A - Avon Calling 1979

A essential City compilation is this release. Avon Calling is an album of tracks featuring bands from Bristol/UK, on local record label Heartbeat Records and was originally released in 1979. Great shots of Punk and Wave tunes on it and I guarantee 100% listening pleasure, this is exactly the mix as I like them. At the time of the LP release Rick Joseph of the NME started his review of the album, “Avon Calling is the collective endeavour of 15 bands that live and languish around Britain’s Most Unsung Major Metropolis. So, leaving aside any thoughts of the value of compilation albums in general, and digressions on rock geography in particular, it only remains to be said that ‘Avon Calling’ is a veritable riot of stunning pop." In 2005 the album was re-released as a Double CD, that included bonus unreleased tracks and selections from each of the first 12 Heartbeat singles from 1978 to 1981. More info in the file. And now enjoy this wonderful music.

2.On The Continent – EUROPEABS
3.Green Is In The Red - PRIVATE DICKS
4.Too Much Commotion - MOSKOW

THE CLEAN - Getting Older EP 1982

The Clean were one of the most influential New Zealand bands of the post-punk era. The band formed in the town of Dunedin in 1978, when Hamish Kilgour (drums) and his brother David (guitar) recruited David's school friend, guitarist Peter Gutteridge. Soon afterward, they opened for New Zealand punk rockers Enemy. The Clean were one of the first bands in the country to play original material. They carved out a distinctive noisy but melodic sound, distinguished by David's screeching, distorted guitar. Their first single "Tally Ho!" reached number 19 on the charts. This EP is the groups loudest single and comes with three punk-injected soundin' cuts.

ENDE NOVEMBER - Discography 2006

The music of this band would certainly run past me, and I am grateful that this was prevented (Cheers, Contra!!). Ende November were Vlado Jelic (Vocals/Lyrics/Guitars), Jo Tiedau (Bass) and Stephan Krakau (Drums/Percussion) and come from Cologne. "Through our music, there are two things to know: We sing in German, we make music which is peculiar." Well, their music moves between fast and melodic passages, slightly tinged dark and a comparison with EA80 is quite not wrong. "Besides the music we care about the content: by Dylan we have copied us how summarizes internal processes into words. The same goes for Cohen and Nick Cave. On the other hand, that does not always have to be slow and deliberate. Role models are nice and very well, Ende November is neither a cover combo, even a static project. Ende November is a living process..." To date, unfortunately, is not a single vinyl release of the band appeared (except one song on the Kalte Sterne & Friss Deine Kultur compilations) and I find that quite strange because the band deserves more attention. Musically and lyrically they belong to the premier league and they kick the blues out of every couch potato. So this post here is a selfmade CD with almost all recordings. Meanwhile, the band exists no longer. What remains? Download!!!!

- Extra Special Thx to Contra -
