V/A - Ungdomshuset (Live) 2005

Ungdomshuset (literally "the Youth House") was the popular name of the building formally named Folkets Hus ("House of the People") located on Jagtvej 69 in Nørrebro/Copenhagen, which functioned as an underground scene venue for music and rendezvous point for varying autonomen and leftist groups from 1982 until 2007 when - after prolonged conflict - it was torn down, and later also for its successor, located on Dortheavej 61 in the adjacent Bispebjerg neighbourhood. Due to the ongoing conflict between the municipal government of Copenhagen and the activists occupying the premises, the building on Jagtvej was the subject of intense media attention and public debate from the mid 1990's till 2008. This awesome compilation is originally released as a two record set on their own label and all tracks were recorded live @ Ungdomshuset between 1984 and 2003. The song selection is quite delicious: punk, hardcore, ska, electronic, obscure, acoustic - a rich variety of all styles are here to hear. Damn cool.

SLAM - End Of Laughter 1987

Third and final album by Slam from Gävle and line-up on these fifteen songs were Zone (vocals), Thomas & Uffe (guitars), Pär (bass), Tony (drums) and the year after they got the chance after releasing this album (in the US by Subcore Records) and embarked on a two month U.S. tour that resulted in twenty-seven shows at various venues which made them playing together with such acts as Circle Jerks, Gang Green, SNFU and many more. Slam's last show was in 1987 at the now defunct Ungdomshuset in Copenhagen, and Fagersta Fokets Hus. No further material have been released until 2008 when they appear on 'Svenska Punk Klassiker Vol.2'. Here's a review which I feel the same way: "Out of the fifteen mid-tempo Punk songs here, most are made up of delicate guitar leads, simple drum beats, and droning vocals that lean toward the dark side. Maybe the songs are too long, maybe the band doesn’t live up to their name, but this slab just doesn’t stand out. (Martin Sprouse, MRR #42 • November 1986)Well, unfortunately they didn't make a big bang with this record but I recommend checking their debut album which is a complete different caliber.

- Great Thx to Fredrik -

NO HOPE FOR THE KIDS - Das Reich 7'' 2003

One of my favourite bands here and I recommend you to buy their stuff wherever you see a record. Some info from wikipedia: No Hope for the Kids is a Danish punk band that originated from the punkculture evolving around the Ungdomshuset in Copenhagen and they were active from 2003-2007. Kasper Maarbjerg had earlier played in the punkbands Hul and Asbest, while the drummer Peter Bonneman is a former member of Amdi Petersens Armé. No Hope for the Kids plays a type of punk that is influenced by early English punk pre-hardcore, also incorporating heavy rock elements. The lyrics of the songs, sung in both English and Danish, evolves around war, death and depression. The group achieved some popularity in the hardcore punk scene, both in Denmark and abroad, mostly by word of mouth when it released its first single, especially in the United States. The band, in addition to other bands like Gorilla Angreb and Amdi Petersens Armé, was part of a wave of interest abroad for Danish punk. This led to tours both in Europe and the USA. Ronni Dybdahl and Kasper Maarbjerg also plays in the spoof band The Natzees. Their debut 7'' Das Reich from 2003, with a first pressing of 300, was quickly sold out and are now a collector's item sold for exorbitant prices at auction sites like eBay. But there is a 2nd pressing on white vinyl, too, but those are even rarer. The band's debut album was released on vinyl in 2003 by the now defunct Danish label Kick'n'Punch. Titled No Hope for the Kids, it is sometimes wrongly labelled as Storkøbenhavn because the bandmembers on the coverphoto is placed next to the citylimits sign with Storkøbenhavn written on it. The album was released on CD in 2004 by the American label Feral Ward. 2006 saw the release of the Angels Of Destruction 7'' on the label Backwards Masking. The song 'Angels Of Destruction' had previously been released in 2003 on the Danish compilation København I Ruiner on the Kick'n'Punch label. In 2006 the song Treblinka appeared on the punk-compilation Public Safety released by American punkrock magazine MaximumRocknRoll. The self-titled album has now been reissued a third time by Danish label Hjernespind (since the demise of Kick'n'Punch). In January 2008 Hjernespind released an EP which is a reissue of the songs from the bands two singles.

SLAM - Ingens Slav 1984

Slam was formed 1982 in Gävle/Sweden by five skaters who shared a common music interest, but with none or little band experience. They started as Destroy with their first gig at Paletten Sätra, after rehearsing only for some weeks. About a year later their first recordings released as a tape in January 1983. They were active playing most local and national gigs. Their records were on their own label and sold by independent distributors all over. Their first full length album came in 1984 called Ingens Slav. In 1985 they appeared with a track for the american skate magazine Thrashers skaterock vol.3 compilation "Wild Riders Of Boards". Same year they were also participating on the compilation of european punk bands called Chaos In Europe, on the French New Rose label. Slam split in 1987 and played their last show at the now defunct Ungdomshuset in Copenhagen. - Excellent Scandinavian Punkrock. -

NRG - Aber Mein Liebchen 12'' 1986

This rare record is really amazing and I like it a lot. Very hard to find because it was pressed in a small editon. Here we have five strong punk tunes mixed in a catchy wavie sound plus the wild voice. Two 4 minute tunes, three short stirring tracks. Excellent!! Here's some info from their MySpace site: "Danish punk band NRG was formed in 1981 in the Copenhagen suburb Albertslund and existed until 1989. Their music evolved along the way from '76 punk and hardcore over free form avantgarde to a sort of paisley underground garage rock. They released the single Kulturel Forvaltning in 1984 and the mini-album 'Aber Mein Liebchen' (Hub Records) in 1986. Through all the years the band consisted of Kim Ingemann (guitar & vocals) and Claus Lindhardt (drums). Their line up was concluded with, in 1981-83: Erik Vosbein (bass) and Uffe Ejlerskov (guitar). In 1983-84: Uffe Ejlerskov (bass). In 1984-85: Soren Poulsen (bass) and Henning Malm (trumpet and garbagecans). In 1985-86: Uffe Ejlerskov (bass). In 1986: Emma Engberg (bass) and Lars Bjerr (guitar). In 1987-88: Henrik Geertz (bass). In 1988-89: Emma Engberg (bass) and Henrik Geertz (guitar). NRG moved base to Copenhagen in 1984 and performed regularly in the squatters' house Ungdomshuset and in the main rock club at the time, Barbue. NRG toured the main cities of Denmark and in Sweden, Russia and Uzbekistan. During 1990-1994 Kim and Claus rehearsed new material but performed only twice under the new moniker Shoom. In 1996 they had evolved into the project Shoom Unit". NRG can be found on Killed By Death #22 (coming soon) compilation. Don't hesitate to get this cool plate.
