NEW ORDER - @ Recreation Centre/Tolworth 12.05.1983

This band is with me for a long fucking time: New Order from Manchester, who were 'involuntarily' formed in 1980 after the tragic end of the unique Joy Division. They retained their dark sound on their debut album, but with their second LP, they reinvented themselves and created their own style. And when 'Blue Monday' was released, their popularity spread across the great ocean, making the four what they are today: one of the most successful pop bands on the planet. The concert @ the Recreation Centre on May 12, 1983, is one of their best, and as I've read, the recordings quickly circulated afterward. No wonder, because it's an awesome soundboard recording and the song selection is fantastic and offers a delightful mix of their early great tracks. There is more detailed information in the file from someone who attended this legendary concert, and apparently the rip is also from this human; I am grateful for this and may this musical outpouring satisfy you.

LOVE A - Irgendwie 2013

Dear friends and followers of this little theater, a new year is here and I hope you have welcomed it in a decent way and I start fucking 2026 with a band I like a lot and this is their second album on Rookie Records and it's a nugget made for every emotional mood. I'm talkin' about Love A, a four piece founded in Trier 2010, known for their distinctive German lyrics and charismatic melodic songs. I first encountered the band in 2013 at a legendary concert in the old Batschkapp in Frankfurt, and this album was the first one I ever bought immediately. That almost never happens, but the four of them impressed me so much that I couldn't resist. It was love at first tone, like when you recognize yourself in another person, discovering facets you like because you like them in yourself. It's almost as if your own self is standing before you, and you know and feel that this is the right person you want to wake up with every morning, and that's exactly the feeling I had when I first saw Love A in this hot and small area. I wanna quick slip in suitable review"Irgendwie" (Somehow) positions thirteen highly danceable gems rather uncomfortably between stools, with clear lyrics, lyrical sophistication, and copious amounts of cynicism. Love A delivers without resorting to an overly obvious fuck-you attitude. And yet, the extended middle finger lurks everywhere – somewhat hidden behind great guitar melodies, post-punk bass lines, and singer Jörkk's undeniable entertainment skills. "Everything's Already Been Said/Just Not Everywhere." True to this motto, Love A depict the state of a society in which one increasingly doesn't know where to go, but somehow also quite clearly where not to go. (Eric Meyer) That's life, and anyone who knows it knows what I'm talking about. But I don't want to dwell on life's little shitties any longer; Love A does this brilliantly, and I highly recommend that if you don't speak German, you use a translator so you can understand what it's about. It's definitely worth it and helps you recharge and get rid of useless baggage, just like me when I do listening, looking ahead and seeing all the crap in a different light. A worthy successor to the debut and a short video from the concert back then is also included. Now I'm going fishing. Enjoy the record + screw dumb simple minded people!

POT VALIANT - Never Return 2023

I want to end this rather unpleasant year with the exact opposite, and I've loved this band ever since I first heard them on the Life Is Change #2 sampler from BeriBeri Records. Both songs captivate me with their personal lyrics and melancholic mood, yet they still sound very harsh and offensive. This sound and atmosphere resonate perfectly with me, as I too very sensitive and emotional, and it's precisely these two qualities that sometimes get me down because I encounter people who couldn't care less about feelings and only care about their own interests. It's like an addiction; everything else is blocked out, and only the self matters. Well, that's awful, and I don't want to dwell on it. I don't like people who get close to you and then it turns out to be nothing but lame air, and you count no longer. Pathetic. Poor in spirit, poor in heart, or just incredibly stupid. I was very surprised when I saw this release and didn't hesitate to buy it. I want to give you some info about the band; it's not from me, but it fits 100%: "Pot Valiant was a four piece from El Cerrito/California and consisted of Brian (vocals), Nick (guitars), Craig [bass), Dave (drums) and were active from the mid 80s to the mid 90s. The band began as Vagrants; under this name they released three demo tapes and a 7Inch on Lookout Records. Later on they changed their name to Pot Valiant and released two more 7"s and one full-lenght. They also appeared on a compilation and reissued a previously unreleased track this year. Their material released under Vagrants is very DIY and a little more punk sounding than their later material under Pot Valiant which became more of a mix of Punk/Emo/Indierock. Musically their sound could be compared to Squirrel Bait or even The Hated, subtly mixing the emo undertones with straightforward, enjoyable Punk characteristics. It's always impressive to me to hear bands going for this kind of sound pre 1990s when it became increasingly popular and really evolved into its own genre. Back in the 1980s there weren't many bands straying from the norm in terms of Punkrock which makes me really respect the band." Suitable for all moments in life and a constant favorite in my ears, there's nothing to complain about here, and a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to this album, I'm thrilled! Compiled on this two record set are the band’s Lookout & Sunny Sindicut 7Inches, Transaudio LP, comp tracks, and three previously unissued songs, comes in a fold-out case and includes a twenty-page booklet (not included) full of notes, flyers and photos of this classic from the outsider emo scene.

Enjoy the music and the last hours of this year and I wish you all a happy new 2026 and we'll rock just this as fucking hell.

BUREAUCRATS - s/t LP 2000

Superb release, and I quote the liner notes from the insert: Formed in the summer of 1978 in Ottawa/Canada, the Bureaucrats featured Guz (vocals), Mitch (rhythm guitar), Joe (lead guitar), Grant (bass) and Wayne (drums). At the timeof the band's inception, very little was happening on the Canadian music scene. Bands that wrote and performed their own material could not get gigs in local clubs, as club owners systematically selected mainstream "cover" bands to fulfill their club's musical needs. Record companies also did not believe that original Canadian bands had anything to offer, and would rarely even venture outside of New York City to check out new talent. Eventually, Toronto was seen as a stepping stone to NYC but even that didn't occur until well into the 80's. But a band from Ottawa.. especially one that leaned heavily towards the "new wave".. wasn't then nor ever would be, a consideration in any self-respecting A&R man's eyes!

Burdened by these limitations, the Bureaucrats began their musical legacy by opening and closing the now infamous "Rotter's Club" and eventually did the same with it's successor, "The 80's Club". In the time between these two club's inceptions and eventual demise, the band changed the face of the 'live' music scene in Ottawa forever!

Starting from a point of having absolutely no musical venues to showcase their original and distinctive songwriting capabilities and performances (with the exception of Eugene Haslam's legendary "Gang Of Four" house parties), the growing appeal of the band ultimately led to the opening up of almost ALL clubs in the Ottawa area to the Bureaucrats, and eventually to the just then emerging "new music scene".

This about face the club owners could only be attributed to the popularity of the band, their intensly energetic yet melodic music, and their ever-growing fan base. Combine this with an almost iron-clad guarantee of a capacity crowd wherever and whenever they performed proved to be just too lucrative for most club owners to continue to ignore. And that, if anything, is the Bureaucrat's legacy to Ottawa: their ability to "open the doors" which enabled the 'live' new music scene to grow and prosper in Canada's capitol. Over the course of these early years, besides extensive touring, the Bureaucrats had been busy penning and recording original songs both at Double Helix Studios in Old Chelsea and at Passport Studios in Hull. In total they wrote about 20-30 songs but unfortunately only recorded aboult half that number.

This album combines the best of what could be found of both sessions, and as an added bonus, includes three 'live' versions of previously unrecorded Bureaucrats classics! Ironically, the three live songs were recorded at a concert in Ottawa in the final days of the original band's existence, while the final three songs on this album were recorded in late 1980 by the remaining Bureaucrats, following the band's break up. The "original" Bureaucrats went their separate ways in August 1980. However, the band continued on in various incarnations until late 1981 when eventually it disbanded for good. Great album from a great band!

RIISTETYT - Raiskattu Tulevaisuus 1984

It's frosty at my homebase, so I'm off to Finland, where I'm sure the locals would laugh at such temperatures. Riistetyt somehow sent their demo, Raiskattu Tulevaisuus/Raped Future, to the house painter H.E. from Cologne. He's already released two albums by the band, and apparently both sold really well, so he didn't hesitate to release another tape on his Rock-O-Rama label, naturally with a self-designed cover, etc... I don't want to write any more about the album; anyone who likes Finnish HardcorePunk will be very satisfied with this record; all others as well. This sound was and is irreplaceable. And the best: They are still active! So if you don't know what to do with a lousy, icy Monday, Riistetyt is the answer.

CÓMPLICES - De Espias, Policias Y Ladrones 1986

The Cómplices were a band in the purest Clash style, emerged 1985 in Valencia and consisted of José (vocals/guitar), Félix (bass) and Domingo (drums). They released their debut via Discos Medicinales in 1986, recorded at Sono-Estudi. The theme that opens the work was the result of the discontent generated by their participation in the festival organized by the Provincial Council at that time. The Cómplices has been one of the bands most unfairly valued, given the excellent repertoire that is extracted from their only album. They performed on several occasions in the different fashionable venues of Valencia in the Eighties, especially at the popular Gasolinera. Twelve songs often hailed as a raw, socially critical Punk/New Wave milestone of the Madrid scene, with sharp lyrics about espionage, police and theft that reflect the chaos and frustration of the late Franco era and transition, praised for its raw energy and direct style, although perhaps not as polished as later works. It captures the spirit of that time in Spain - a time of upheaval, social tensions and counterculture. Their words are intelligent, often cynical and politically charged lyrics and the decent production give us driving guitars, simple but effective rhythms and the distinctive voice of frontman Miguel, the raw and blunt approach is highly brilliant. Media says it is considered an important, if less well-known, album from the Spanish underground scene and of course, it is compared to the energy of bands like the Clash or early the Jam, but with a distinctly Spanish flavor. Currently the band is known as 3Cómplices and has since released three more albums, including their recent one in 2024.

V/A - Underground PunkRock From The Vaults 2024

Today, one more fantastic Compilation, and I've already mentioned the Shout It Out Loud label, which could be considered as a second Redrum and perhaps it's headed in that direction, I hope so. At least it once again presents rare gems from obscure Punk stuff from the Western world. Bands that will likely be unknown to most collectors, but are ultimately well worth a listen, and the record itself is impressive. Fourteen bands with their rare and hard-to-find songs, originally released on 7Inches, covering the period from 1979 to 1983. All songs have been specially remastered for this vinyl reissue to bring back the original, uncompromising feeling. Liner notes and cover art are printed on the back of the record. Let's hope the guys don't get tired and continue to make such rare treasures accessible; I'm thrilled, you are, and so every Punk in every conceivable place in our beautiful world.

V/A - Paranoia In Der Straßenbahn 1990

An absolute highlight was brought by the Hamburg label Weird System and this significant Compilation is full with incredibly awesome bands/songs of the early wild Punk years in Hamburg from the era 1977-1983. From beginning to end, one nugget chases another. This city was known for its rough energy, D.I.Y. spirit, versatility, and rightly celebrated for its important combos, providing an important snapshot of the aggressive, politically charged Punk sound and convey the feelings of that time, socially critical & rebellious. I was always delighted when the label released a new album because the quality was/is consistently high, and they still bring me much joy. The CD version features four bonus cherries that I included and an enjoyable listening is guaranteed. Let's go Baby!

NEWTOWN NEUROTICS - The Punk Collection 2001

I remember it well when I bought this CD; it was summer 2012 in Berlin. I was visiting good friends with my then-girlfriend (R.I.P. my love) and we went to an EA80 concert at SO36 which was fantastic (some nice photos exist) ... ah yes... the past is sometimes beautiful... We arrived in the city timely and had plenty of it, so we looked for record stores and interesting places to chill out a bit. That time it was the European Football Championship, and we watched some matches in different bars. I can say, this was one of my best times of my life, and it's no secret, because a year ago today I had one just like this, at precisely this hour... but things changed unexpectedly... so how it goes. I know why, but not everything was wrong. - So you know from which great band I'm talking about.: Formed in 1979 the Newtown Neurotics are one of the most under rated but essential Punk combos. Hailing from Harlow in Essex, a postwar new town designed to alleviate London housing shortages (hence the band’s Name) the Newtown Neurotics apparently became a big deal in the town in Punk’s second wave, though in truth they never really broke through to national recognition, tending to play second or third on the bill to bigger names. No one at any point suggests it might be because lead singer and songwriter Steve Drewett sported very Roger Daltrey-ish big hair, at a time when such stylings were a Punk anathema, or that their band name was a tad ungainly compared to their peers; Drewett getting a No 1 crop and the band dropping the “Newtown” bit were good moves, though possibly a little too late to make a drastic difference. This twenty-three awesome track Fucker includes all of the debut LP by the Newtown Neurotics which hit No.6 in the Independent Chart when first issued in late 1983, also features the Hypocrite, When The Oil Runs Out, Kick Out The Tories, Licensing Hours, Blitzkrieg Bop and Suzi singles pretty much everything the band recorded before changing their name to the Neurotics. One of the most powerful political orientated Punkrock trios that ever graced the boards. I see myself in every song, as if I were a member and had written the songs myself, at least some of them, absolutely irreplaceable. And remember: "Do unto others as you would do unto yourself because what you du unto others will be done to you!"

Christmas Eve Meal.... I Need A Break!

Before I make my next post, here's a little glimpse of what I'm having for dinner today: curried turkey strips with spinach and feta cheese sauce, spicy and tangy. That's easily enough for two people, but that's not possible right now. So there'll be a little left over for tomorrow! That's okay! Let Me Out Of Here... 🎸

EA80 - Definitiv: Nein! 2011

Anyone who puts on an EA80 slab at 8:00 in the morning is either desperate, crazy, a passionate Punk, optimistic, or simply wants to listen to music that is far removed from the usual run-of-the-mill stuff. Well, now you can choose what applies to you and me. It's the eleventh album by the Gladbach gents and with nine songs its their 'shortest', but no less intense. First off, let's mention the elaborate Chromolux Magic Chrome cover and which Punk band goes to such lengths? That's D.I.Y., and the four are always coming up with new ideas for the artwork. I know they struggle with the design, but in the end you're always surprised with the final result, that's a perfect score. To the songs: "Definitely: No!" is a typical, self-contained work, remaining true to their roots but surprisingly more upbeat, biting, and direct than expected. It features a mix of slow, melancholic tracks and driving bangers, offering both self-referential nods and new facets like epic songs and critical lyrics, sounds more upbeat and aggressive than usual, and cementing their status as an uncompromising band that defies every drawer. Even after many years, the band shows no weakness, remaining a fascinating, enigmatic entity that you either love immediately or ignore. It's one more powerful record and I have to admit, it's kind of faded into the background since I prefer the earlier albums, but I have to say, I'm going to put it on my phone right away, and the opener "Fort Von Krank" is so brutally good, you can use it anytime, or as a kick in the ass when you stagnate. EA80 are irreplaceable, and even before the first chord sounds, they tune their guitars in unison to a minor key, count to four, and launch forward. Songs that offer enough space to reflect your visions, feelings and frustrations and others as well. Have emotional moments & pleasant memories with this wonderful record.

THE DOLE - New Wave Love 7'' 1978

Damn good two-song 7Inch that also belongs in this theater and I'm somehow in an upbeat mood, the prospect of having five days off boosts my vibes. Talkin' about the Dole, a five piece which formed in Peterborough anno 1977 and consisted of Ian (vocals), Simon (guitar), Matt (bass), Paul (drums), Peter (keyboards) and this is their only piece, released via the small independent The Ultimate Record Label. The A-side is a superb love song which I have rarely heard, an absolute must for all lovers and those who live in harmonious relationships. It has nothing to do with fucking Christmas that I chose this particular record; no, no, a beautiful song doesn't need any reasons, you have to do it, not just talk about it. The flip is no less awful; if I understand correctly, it's about a judge who is an asshole, a nasty human, a pisshead. The solid rhythms are supported by the squeaky keys, which are a perfect companion and squeak and fart and have their time in beautiful short solos; I love such a sound, and the snotty guitar gives me the rest. The slab won't cut off your ears, but it comes close. A few Compilation appearances are also available.

V/A - OX-Compilation #38 2000

Finally, another brilliant OX output, and I've realized I'm missing a few, hmmm... I really have no idea where they've all gone? Well, that's just how it is, and number 38 has the lovely addition Beautiful Music For Beautiful People and yes, that only refers to us. The OX-Fanzine was the best reading material for me back then: funny, informative, and never boring. And while I can't say I always eagerly awaited the next issue, I was always pleased to see a new magazine at my local Kiosk, a few stupid bastards were so brazen to steal the accompanying CD, but well, that's just how it is with those jerks. Precisely those who leave their shitty beer bottles or paper cups, cigarettes and vomit at our performance venues, there's a 'nice' song about that, I have no tolerance for those Pseudo-Punks and they should go where the sun never shines. But I'm getting sidetracked again; I just had an interesting encounter and I'm feeling rather happily motivated, hahahaha..... I guess, I'm a little sarcastic. Thirty-six bands/songs, international, twenty-five years young and I think, it has something for everyone. Meanwhile, I'll go and see where all the other CDs have been.

STATISTICS - Dumb 7'' 1979

Let's stay on the British Isles and turn to a band about which I can find zero information, I'm talkin' about the Statistics, presumably from London, and they released a single on Tyger Label Records with two, I would say PowerPop goodies, and then they disappeared without a trace. "Dumb" is always a great title, and it's particularly appealing to me right now because I know someone (or at least I thought I did) who's incredibly stupid and doesn't realize it. Musically, it's a rhythmic stomper with great lyrics; definitely worth for a new Compilation. With a sax which is really okay and you can even hear an organ, really a beautiful number. The flip is also impressive, it's a bit faster and is dominated by the organ, or at least it immediately captivates your ear, wonderfully quirky. Supposedly, a DIN A4-sized insert card with comic illustrations introducing the label "Tyger Label Records" and a sticker with a tiger's head were included, but unfortunately, it's missing. Anyway, the Statistics made a very good record and deserve attention and appreciation!

U.K.SUBS - Predator 7'' 2017

When I can't think of anything else and need a kick in the pants, I usually choose one of my favorites, and the UK Subs have been among them for many, many years. Live, always a treat, and on canned just as good. Since I don't own everything and some new things have been sent to me, I'm presenting you their 7Inch from 2017 that features two absolute bangers. Comes in blue vinyl and some copies came with a free download and an exclusive badge and patch, the rest is self-explanatory! That's enough for today, I'm a bit drunk and tired... all this crap is exhausting... take care and stay perpendicular!

DEFNICS - 51% 7'' 1981

I'm starting the weekend with something that, to be honest, is nothing new, but is absolutely essential when you love a decent KBD sound. So you know who's blasting your ears, here's a short info from the label that re-released the record: "The Defnics, Robert (vocals/guitar), Sablack (lead guitar), Brandon (bass) & Johnny (drums), from Cleveland cut only one 7Inch on Terminal Records and a piece on the Cleveland Confidential Compilation. They played out as the Defnics for almost two years and broke up in the summer of 1982. Bill (a.k.a. Robert Conn) went on to join the second formation of the Pagans. Brandon joined Red October with Chris Andrews. Bob started the Plague with Duke Snyder and Johnny. Reformed in 2001 and published a 7" on Smog Veil Records with a new song written by Robert Conn along with a screaming live version of “51%”, recorded at the band’s reunion show." (source: BreakoutRecordsA brilliant record; used countless times on numerous cool compis. A true friend to enjoy your first breakfast beer!

SUBWAY SECT - Nobody's Scared 7'' 1978

Subway Sect were among the first British Punk bands. Although their commercial success was limited by the small amount of material they released, they are considered extremely influential. The line-up on this superb 7Inch consisted of Vic (vocals), Rob (guitars), Paul (bass), Bob (drums) and this formation recorded one more 7Inch plus the band's first John Peel session. Sadly this is all that remains from Subway Sect from their 1977-1978 period. Two nice tracks with fantastic lyrics, side A is clearly the winner for me. The flip is a four-minute thunderstorm that's motivating and, as far as I'm concerned, could go on forever... a harmonica is also on board. Great Stuff!

DIE BÖSE HAND - Strike Out 2004

I believe the following record was mentioned at some point by one of you, and this wish almost faded into oblivion, but my Punk gene rediscovered it, and here it is: The great Compilation by Die Böse Hand. All five Singles, plus two sampler pieces; in total twenty-two songs are on this nice Fucker, unfortunately there's no booklet, and released via Bad Moon/Musikzimmer. For the most part, only cover songs are performed here, but in a style that could almost only come from these three; anyone who knows the main bands of this collaboration knows exactly what I'm talking about. Of course I could have posted all the singles, but listening to all the songs in a row is an absolute joy and crash through the ceiling; the awesome production is a highlight as well. I tell you: You can't get past this stuff. Thx Junge, Co & Ulf

ZZZ HACKER - Kind, Sieh Da Nicht Hin! EP 1983

I remember when I first came across this record, my then best friend (R.I.P.) lent it to me so I could record it on tape, along with various other rarities, and he said: 'You have to listen to this, brilliantly amateurish and absolutely brilliant.' Well, my friends, I haven't had the tape for a long time, but I somehow got the mp3's. And here it is: ZZZ Hacker is a four piece combo from Bielefeld and were founded 1980 by brothers Kussi (guitar) and Django (bass). Later, Milos (vocals) & Cashba (drums) completed the line-up. After rehearsals, the band initially formed at the AJZ Bielefeld where many of their first gigs took place in the early Eighties. From 1984 onwards, the band played various concerts throughout Germany, including shows with bands like Die Toten Hosen and Peter & The Test Tube Babies, but no full tours. Members of the band also played in Mod revival bands such as Jetzt! and Lik Bit Express. The addition of Charles Hacker and T-Kiela in the early 1990s brought a breath of fresh air to the band. Numerous concerts followed until, after eighteen years, the band released their first album in 1998. In addition to the album Kein Bier Kein Ton… (No Beer, No Sound…), several split singles were released. Every five years, the band celebrates itself at Hackerfest, a two-day festival featuring twelve bands and the "Hacker Ballet," among other acts. In 2003, ZZZ Hacker recorded the title track for the film Operation Dance Sensation; Bela B. provided the vocals. In 2012, after many years, the band released a new album. The Arminia EP 3.0 was presented live on the pitch of the Bielefeld Alm stadium during an Arminia Bielefeld home game in March 2012. I think, they're still alive and this is the first 7Inch by ZZZ Hacker with eight funny pieces. Featured on numerous compis, none of which I know.
