Brilliant melodic mid-tempo punk from this California band and not much info here except the title track is a damn good rocket and should be on every selfmade compilation. Released on Bemisbrain records and the EP kick off with a blast, guitars which hunt impulsive through, perfect the dirty sound, sophisticated lyrics. A real Killer!!!! Side b starts with a slower stomper and nice bass-tune, a little interlude I would say before with 'Food' another cracker the single makes perfect. Some members formed later The Bolsheviks in 1986. Godhead are present on Back To Front Vol.3 which welcomes you at this point. So this is a superb one, fuckin' rare and quality stuff for all CA Punk fans & Killed By Death collectors, a real gem and a fucking must listen in every way, you Bitches.
one of the best records i know, bought it back in the days in a small record shop in san fransisco and i don't know where it is.....thanx mate :))

Hey, just reading this almost 2 years after you've written it. My name is Paul and I was the lead singer/guitarist/songwriter of Godhead. "Food" was written and sung by our other guitarist Bill. Thanks for the kind words! The single was recorded in the fall of '81 in the studio where most of the Hell Comes to Your House compilation album was recorded and produced by Randy Burns. Yes, some of us went on to be in the Bolsheviks and released a couple of singles and recorded an unreleased album for Doctor Strange. I have been in an Irish folk-rock band the Privateers on-and-off for a number of years now. We put out a couple of self-released CDs. We're still out there in and around Long Beach area from time to time!
ReplyDeleteCheers Paul and thx for such detailed info. It's a bit sad that this 7Inch are the only record of Godhead. I love this litte sucker and when I listen first to it I repeat again and again etc... I think, I once heard a Bolsheviks record but I'm not sure, keep my eye on this... Well, maybe you come for a small tour via Germany and play this goodie live... all the Best, Michael
DeleteI think Godhead had a hilarious song called Too Much Chuck Berry.
ReplyDeleteHey Paul, are there any unreleased Godhead recordings?
ReplyDeleteHello, nightowl83. Sorry just seeing this over a year later. Looks like we may be re-releasing this for its 40th anniversary with a bonus song that was never released. That's all I can say right now. Keep your eyes peeled in 2021!
