V/A - 病原体 Virus Compilation 1988

To coffee now a decent portion of hardcore and a trip to Japan is not the worst place and the punkers there celebrate it in their very own way I think: extreme energetic, partly chaotic, unrestrained and simply authentic, and exactly that stimulates me a lot and often I don' understand a word because the singing is mostly screamin' out (I mean, the Italians, Spaniards or Brazilians, to name a few, can do that too but the Japanese I find specially and unique) and that makes the music so simpatico. This record, released via the French label Jungle Hop International, proves it with sixteen fantastic delicious cocktails.

1.Ugly Today - SIC
2.I Don't Wanna - SIC
3.Right Stuff - LIP CREAM
4.Yellow Beauty - LIP CREAM
5.Open Your Eyes - FUCK GEEZ
6.No Fun - FUCK GEEZ
7.Buffalo Slam - FVK
8.A Summer Vacation - FVK
9.Jap Gate - SYSTEMATIC DEATH
10.Jock - SYSTEMATIC DEATH
11.Hi - SYSTEMATIC DEATH
12.Bloody Character - MAD CONFLUX
13.Go Out - MAD CONFLUX
14.Pink Panther - MAD CONFLUX
15.Always Hate - DON DON
16.We Don't Want Fuckin' Laws - DON DON

PLASTIK - So Schön Mit Dir EP 1982

Now to a band which is completely unknown to me, named Plastik, and this is their only record, self-released, with three new wave songs. A five piece with female voice and they from a small town that nobody knows. Musically they generate solid mid-tempo rhythms with beautiful keyboard and not silly lyrics, two in German one in English. The cover is very cool and I immediately think of hot women, lol. Well, not the big throw but overall individual and a little contribution of rare Austrian subculture. Achja, they are on the rare TraunStadtKinder compilation if someone interested.

THE ENEMY - 50.000 Dead EP 1981

From Derby, England are the Enemy and they formed early 1980 in their local youth club, with several changes of personnel before they stabilized the following year as Mark Woodhouse (vocals), Steve "Mez" Mellors (guitar), Steve O'Donnell (bass), and Mark Herrington (drums) and this is their first single, released on their own Tin Tin label with three nice punkies with a touch of Oi! sound. They signed to Fall Out Records and the 'Fallen Hero' is surely their most famous piece which reached #44 in the UK Indie Charts in 1982. One year later the debut album 'Gateway To Hell' followed, some line-up changes and after their second slab in 1984, The Enemy was history. Eighteen years passed, the band came together for some gigs and a new album was supposed to follow but is not yet to date. They are featured on many compilations, some of them in the blog. Cool stuff!

ICI PARIS - Allo Le Monde... 2001

Led by singer Marie Al Kha Raz (Betty Boo style), this group performed a second class and cheerful rock'n'roll which Gaumont enjoyed. Inspired by New York Dolls (for the look) and Cramps (for the spirit), the band Ici Paris recorded in the early 80s one of the most beautiful testimonies of French rock, full of adventures that carefully avoids the cliché of easy girls and dark suburbs. Ici Paris dream of ghost train, intergalactic explorations, romantic monsters and infernal cadillac. Univers kitsch of eternal teenager combined with the few basic chords of Rock'N'Roll, the slap is great for who has the curiosity to listen to their songs. Taken by a pretty brunette with a piercing voice and a guitarist with an incredible mop, the training arouses curiosity. The connoisseurs even think they have finally discovered the rare pearl that was lacking in the musical landscape. Alas, the concerts are rare and especially the traditional media are a little too disconcerted by this universe where Baghdad and the fair of the throne have become two unavoidable poles of attraction. The time is rather for France Gall and his pianist who plays in a vertical position, so there is no place for fantasy and the second degree. Pity. The group faints in nature, while his ghost regularly returns to visit our turntables.

The history of this combo begins in 1977 with the curlies in which Hervé Crost Flament aka Shere Kahn, "Sy" Philippe Becquelin on guitars and Jean-François "Jeff" Janin on vocals (future Escalators and Fanatics) . The time is punk-rock and they renamed Gare du Stade (name of the station of Colombes) to stick to their idols: Asphalt Jungle, Metal Urbain and Guilty Razors.

The group is composed of Shere Kahn, "Sy" Philippe and Jeff complete with Jean-Claude "Dino Lamour" Courtinel (bass, ex-Incitement A La Débauche) and Pascal (drums). One of their rare weapon is to perform at La Boule Noire in December 1978 in the first part of Gazoline. In the first row, a spectator, Marie-Christine Alcaraz, knows all the texts by heart. Could she be a singer?

On June 23, 1980, their first public appearance, opener for Sham 69 at the Palace. The label Gaumont notices the band and sign them without hesitation. They recorded under the direction of producer Paul Scemama of Gialully "Center Of The World" + "Souris" which passes completely unnoticed in the eyes of the general public but which allows them to obtain the first part of the French tour of the Ramones.

A few weeks before the release of their album, January 1982, the TV show "Les Enfants Du Rock" broadcasts two songs from Ici Paris filmed @ Rose Bonbon: "Stupid Little Boy" and "La Fusée De Ton Retour". The album is in the boxes in July 1982. Mix of twist and rock glitter, "Allo Le Monde ... Ici Paris" manages to renew the genre by force of simplicity and candor. How indeed do not fall in love with the voice of little mouse of the singer? An album where cinema lovers recognize in intro the presentation of the film "Terror Extra Terrestre". Bijou's guitarist Vincent Palmer came to help Shere Khan, for Sy-Philippe seems to play only a figurative role. His name appears only in the thanks. Maxime Schmitt + Andy Scott, who later worked with Taxi Girl, took care of the sound production.

The album gets chronic dithyrambics and the first copies deposited in the bins disappear in no time. A little promotion and a hexagonal tour would undoubtedly involve a chain reaction. Unfortunately all this does not happen. Waiting patiently for a good fairy to look into their case, and to invite them to perform here and there, the spectators are impatient. Their scenic appearances are made even if sporadic as some begin to talk about a ghost group. The impression of a big mess becomes general, and little by little the complicities crumble. Here Paris does not survive this dead time. Marie is the first to leave. She is replaced by actress Anicée Alvinéa, a year almost to the day after the release of the album. The faithful of the first hour are disoriented, especially since a new recruit, Olivier "Le Baron", also took definitively the place of Sy-Philippe. (translated from rockmadeinfrance, mercí)

GLO - Ljusåret Kommer 1980

The Swedish Punk scene is simply fuckin' great and I'm glad to post another album that proves it colossally again because it has it all. Most of you might known them from their both 7inches 'Discojäckel' and 'Nerv' which later appeared on the Killed By Death #77 compilation. GLO (acronym Gothenburg Ligist Organization) were a Swedish punk band from Åsa, five miles south of Gothenburg and their were one of the first punk/kbd acts from Gothenburg together with Bruset and Göteborg Sound. Original members were Mikael (vox & drums), Patrik (guitars), Peter (bass), Gerry (drums) and Peter Davidsson (guitars & keyboards) and they were friends since kindergarten and the band start in 1978. After two EP's they released on Ljudspåret Records their only full length and the record is very diverse. Most '77 smashers but there is more, a few rock cuts and the absolut highlight is a cover version of The Who's 'My Generation', recorded in a special reggae mix, awesome!! A true gem from these youngsters.

PENETRATION - Life's A Gamble 7'' 1978

Named after a Stooges song Penetration were formed late '76 in Ferryhill County Durham by three friends Pauline Murray, Robert Blamire and Gary Smallman after seeing the Sex Pistols in Manchester. They played their first gig in October 76 @ the Middlesborough Rock Garden and played their first London gig at the famous Roxy Club in January 1977 supporting Gen X. This first gig in the bright lights of London was less than fondly recalled by Pauline "We spent a fortune getting down there. We thought it was great. Then when we got there it was such a dump. I don't know what we were expecting but it wasn't quite that." They re-formed in 2001 with several new members. Their excellent debut single, Don't Dictate, is now acknowledged as a classic punk record and their debut album, Moving Targets (1978), is still widely admired. Heavy touring in 1979 and another album 'Coming Up For Air', but no real commercial success found Penetration in internal disharmony. So here's their third single with two nice powerpop/punk songs and listen also to an awesome live goodie on the rare British Underground compilation.

THE REJECTS - Back To School EP 1980

Early Texas punk by The Rejects from San Antonio and their only record was the third release on Closet Records. Three excellent smashers, the flip is an instrumental with slight melancholic elements and a nice contrast to the A-side which own two shiny kbd nuggets. 100 copies exist and is just as rare as a sperm sample from the pope. "E.E.G." and "Barbed Wire Baby" also appear on Killed By Death #12, one of the many volumes in this infamous bootleg series chronicling worldwide punk rarities (with a little help by Ryan Richardson).

CHRON GEN - Outlaw EP 1982

Nothing new but a real classic and the fourth 7Inch by Chron Gen (Chronic Generation) has the best three songs they ever recorded on it. I came first in touch with the band via the essential Punk & Disorderly 3 compilation and it was a superb start to put them on my radar and it took not long I had the album, their only studio until 2016What more shall I say? Melodic UK punk of the finest with very versed lyrics, so if you like the Hertfordshire sound click over to FPFTP and enjoy the full boom.
