YOUNG IDENTITIES - EP 1979

Great stuff from Brisbane's Young Identities which were formed 1978 by Clay (vocals), David (guitars), Gavin (bass), Paul (drums) and they made only two EP's but both are standouts among the Savage/Shake releases (the label released seven vinyl singles and two cassette compilations, of which they probably sold as many copies each and nowadays high sought by collectors). The band's line-up was mixed in with other band Brisbane bands who were, in turn, part of other groups. In other words, a history of the Young Identities is necessarily a history of a few other bands. I can certainly be counted among the "overseas overseers" who became interested in the early Brisbane punk scene several years ago. Without further ado, another history from the younger, snottier contingent of the no-scene Brisbane scene... (Ryan Richardson) - The band present "a lot of youthful energy, a martial spirit and all-important Punk attitude, or in short: primitive, snotty-nosed Punkrock". In the early 1980s, the band changed their name to Kicks, joining the emerging new wave sound and made one 7Inch and a couple of split cassette EPs before they too imploded in mid 1982. Both EP's were repressed in 2010/11 via 540 Records. Compilations featuring the band on At The Fuhrers Request and more essential well-known Nuggets from the Nineties. You can't pass!

V/A - Break The Rules #7 1996

So that are no gaps here, now the missing piece of the puzzle of the essential compilation series from Incognito/Insekten Records headquarters: Back To Front; Means many rare unsung heroes who created fantastic music & colorful subcultures in the early wild years 1977-1982 worldwide and vehement flouted the dusty degenerate biblehousesocietynorms. Twenty-three brilliant examples prove once again that the music is different and the spirit is more alive than today. Mostly good stuff on this Volume and 1000 copies exist.

V/A - Shakedown! Original Brisbane Punk 1978-83

Pooh, a sleepless night behind me and a long nine hours day ahead. I'm a little exhausted, yesterday was a pleasant and sunny day with lots of alcohol and surprises that makes me partly speechless. Well, we'd better come to the next post and this was requested by some of you. Dropkick Records released this cool compilation in 2003 with five bands from Brisbane. All their rare 7inches are thereon which they put out on the Brisbane labels Savage Music and Shake Music. Consistently great stuff except the Just Urbain songs are not mine but the order is chosen carefully so they slip the way through. I would rather stay in bed and cuddle a little.

KICKS - The Secret 7'' 1981

I was asked for a compilation which I unfortunately do not own. So I wrote an email to my friends and got it finally. However, it still lasts a little up to the Shakedown! post but I will give you a small tidbit by this awesome Brisbane punkers. This 7inch was published original by Shake Records and re-released 2012 by 540 Records. So I wanna use an excellent review from GraveMistakeRecords which descripes the band/record perfect:

"Official reissue on 540 Records of this Australian "post punk" classic from 1981 that sounds so much like Bauhaus it's crazy! This is the 6th in the series of Shake/Savage records reissues of some of the best punk ever to come from Australia. After nearly three years (and nearly as many chords) The Young Identities decided to try something different if not entirely distant. They still get a buzz from fast and sinister music so they change their name to Kicks and release a very limited edition cassette singe titled 'Leather/Godzilla'. Sounding fresh, brash and furious but with more depth than previously heard, the boys continued to expand on the new noise with the 1981 vinyl double A side follow up 'Return of the Action Man/The Secret'. The single sold well locally and was an acknowledged influence on new and upcoming bands like Mystery of Sixes and Public Execution. Officially though, it was to be Kicks last recorded release, until now... where thanks to the good folk of 540 records it raises it ugly hydra-head again!"

I believe therefore everything is said and I can be even grateful to that people who dig out such brilliant classics. Two excellent songs from a very good band.

V/A - Springtime In Belsen 1998

Today is compilation day and the next record is a Bootleg in the vein of KBD. Eighteen early worldwide punkrock goodies here and I must say most of the songs can be find on the legendary Killed By Death records so therefore, in my opinion, this plate is not really essential. I mean, if you should you see this for a decent price then take it, no question about it but not for horror totals as it circulates currently. Ach scheiß was drauf, I have an extreme hangover from yesterday's gig and realize again that I'm not getting younger, haha.. Your old sacks of you know what I mean. Well, the sound here is cool, the song selection is okay and a small step into the weekend. I guess, I hang around for awhile at home today and relax with my technique shit. Good Night!

V/A - At The Fuhrers Request 1985

Originally released in 1985 on Rubber Records comes this great Aussie punk/post-punk compilation. The title of this was changed to "At The Solicitor's Request" due to legal advice and stickers were pasted over the word 'Fuhrers' saying 'Solicitor's'. It's amazing what power can have one word and stupid it is that some people become annoyed. In fact disturbing. Anyway, the LP offers an interesting band/song choices and has for everyone a present in their luggage. Nowadays a rarity and the prices obtained by collectors to € 100, - or more.

V/A - Bloodstains Across Australia 1998

Today I  kick off with rare punk stuff from down under and the Bloodstains comps have become a monster of their own and I think all releases are somewhere in the network available. The reason for this post is again the excellent rip and the complete artwork and finally, of course, the gifted music on it. Everyone's heard the classics by Razar, Victims, Rocks, Leftovers, News and Fun Things....all great bands, but they're on dozens of other compilations so it makes no sense including them here. Instead you'll get a taste of some killer Australian punk (previously uncompiled tracks) you might have missed.

1.Mystery - BODYSNATCHERS
2.Dance With The Führer - SKUNKS
3.Threats - YOUNG IDENTITIES
4.Police - PROLES
5.SS Brigade - PUBLIC EXECUTION
6.Alcoholic - THE PRESS
7.Fun - THOUGHT CRIMINALS
8.Run Amok - WRONG KIND OF STONE AGE
9.MultiNationals - VACANT LOT
10.Second Glance - SPUTNIKS
11.Guns & Guitars - JUST URBAIN
12.Standing By The Window - TACTICS
13.Pyramid Party - QUICK & THE DEAD
14.Is There Someone Out There? - Z-CARS
15.When I Watch TV - SECTION URBANE
16.Who Wants To March? - REJEX
17.Do The Manic - CHOSEN FEW
